The bartender chuckled. "There's meat around as far as the eye can see - though it's not too visible and not necessarily fresh." With a grin he took two pieces of what seemed to be preserved steak and blew a bit of fire over them, then sliced them up and offered them to the elf.

She gave the meat a dirty look, and it seemed to freshen up. "Not much better, but it'll do. We're omnivores..." she murmured, taking them and eating slowly.

"Ah, you missed out on the special flavor doing that." He, meanwhile, was wolfing down bits of the same kind of steak, washing it down with bloodwine and sweetwater. "I've grown to like the taste and texture, but it's even better when you drink these right after."

Grew up that way, and old habits and traditions are hard to break." The elf said, shrugging, pushing the rest of the meat she had been offered away. "I don't care much for the taste, either."

"Ah, yes, I forgot you prefer other things. My apologies." The bartender smiled meekly and offered a peculiar silver-streaked black leaf, stuffed with a fluffy cheese and nightshade petals. He finished off the remaining meat and poured bloodwine into silver-edged glasses for the two of them.

The elf took the leaf and crammed it all into her mouth, nodding approval. Swallowing, she grinned. "I know too many that would die from the nightshade alone. I've been here too much for it to even try." She giggled then. "It just makes me drowsy after a bit." She ignored the glass for the moment, waiting for the peculiar meal to settle down, her eyes closing halfway.

She ignored the glass for the moment, waiting for the peculiar meal to settle down, her eyes closing halfway. The bartender stretched, showing off his extremely lean torso. It looked rather like a skeleton with leather stretched over it, and was not so appealing, being exceedingly thin...
"For stiff joints like mine, I usually make a paste of nightshade and dried oregano, mix with bloodwine, and apply to the area; it loosens them up quite well. Snake venom used to do that, but you become immune to it over time." As he talked, a series of crackling sounds rang out over the dead-fields. At a particularly loud pop the bartender cringed. "That wasn't supposed to go that way." He limped off to a nearby crypt and returned much better.

The bartender cast a minor muffling spell around the elf so that she could sleep without much interruption by background noise.

The bartender was pleased with the influx of company. "If you are able to consume mercury, I have a special brew for you; if not, I do have some pure alcohol if you'd like, infused with snake venom for your entertainment." He offered the two drinking horns to the new guest. The one on the left held the mercury; the one on the right held the venom.
"I also have firewater if you'd like to try it, but if you have any metal in your teeth it may be a bit painful." The bartender grinned and offered up a third container, a goblet from which the glow of crackling flames emanated. It didn't look very drinkable, but then, neither did the other two.

I take the snake venom and silently nod my thanks. I'm probably going to end up killing myself drinking this stuff, but oh well... why not have a bit of fun??
