Ruelash nodded.
"Yeah, ya don't need too many tools but yer hands and feet t' climb up a tree..."
Wait. She'd said huge.
"Huge? Trees?" They didn't exactly grow small in Zena, though the cold kept them down, and Sauti had scraggly tough little trees barely able to entertain even the thought of climbing. "How huge we talkin? Like... The size o' this hut? hill-sized? Mammu sized? What?"

If there was one thing, one talent that Ruelash had that didn't involve violence, it was survival. He would never be the idiot that didn't pay attention- it was the only thing, besides violence, that interested him.
"Survivin' the heat, huh. Conservin' water... Hey... sounds an awful lot like th' tundra." it was ******** eerie how like it sounded, "'cept Zena is cold and there's water everywhere. It's heat you want, and food, and a warm place t' sleep."
Wait. If it was, like, Zenas parallel. "Ya get Avalanches?" he asked abruptly.
He was a bit floored by the fact that he was actually caring. CARING.
CARING.
And interested in ANOTHER PERSON.
So floored he wasn't even noticing it.

"What...?" She should be ******** proud that her girl was making weapons n' s**t. Someone had to, and ya needed weapons. "So, ya take a knife an' you cut through the knot and... I dunno." Stab her? he leaned back on his heels against the wall of the hut. Nah, you don't stab your gran. Even he knew that. If he had a gran, anyway. Grampa, maybe. But Grandmothers were family, old, and female. A trifecta of the reasons why Ruelash didn't stab something.

Why was he waiting here again? Because of his dinky dagger. Did he even care about the stupid artisan? Did he really need to be here? Or want to?
Well he wanted to keep talking to this one. For a change.
"She sounds like one o' the whiners to me. Whinin about life like they don't live all cushy like." he spat into the snow, "Bitchin' and moaning about their stupid little problems like they're the most important things in the ********' world. Stick em' out in the tundra, I say, with nothin' but a coat and a piece o' flint. See if they complain then about their petty little raptrixshit..."

When Ruelash began his response to her she couldn't help but let a smile slip out. "Well, they're bigger than Mammu." She replied, trying to mentally compare each of the things he mentioned. She'd never seen a Mammu near one of their tree's before so it was a little hard to compare. Winta wasn't exactly the tallest person ever. His next question got a little bit of a laugh to come out of her. Avalanches in the desert? The idea of it was so baffling she almost wished it was possible. "We don't get Avalanches. The dry season is hell though." Her words seemed to mimic her inner turmoil at what it was like during that time. Winta hadn't heard of too many people within her little tribe ever dying from dehydration but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. "I'm not sure I'd trade all my bad for all your bad, but having an endless supply of water isn't a bad thing either."

"That's easier said then done. Like I said, she ties really, really good knots. I remember one time I thought I was going to lose my hands from lack of blood circulation." Winta shivered a little at remembering that incident. It might have also been from the cold that she wasn't accustomed to. Winta was so shocked at what Ruelash said that it was hard for her not to just jump up and hug him. There were a couple things preventing her from doing so, the biggest reason was her foot. "I like you!" She said with a huge grin. "I think it would be hilarious to see how she fared in the tundra. I bet she'd wish she had a spear or something then." Winta seemed to contemplate the idea way more than she should have. Not that she could ever get her grandma within a two mile radius of the Tale border, let alone in the Tundra. "Oh well. I'll probably never marry anyone just to spite her." She said with a shrug. It wasn't out of the realm of possibility regardless if it was out of spite for her grandmother or not. Winta was as interested in the opposite sex or same sex as a newborn was.

"You'll have to visit me in Tale. I'll make you an awesome weapon then." Winta told him confidently.

"Problem is, Water don't do much when what ya want is food..." he said thoughtfully. "... Knots are good fer snares, but why the hell would she do that?" he kind of wanted to stab her grandma now. She sounded annoying. Why would she do that? Hands were important, damn it. What, did she want her granddaughter to die? That was just shitty. Yeah. He didn't even know the broad but he wanted to stab her a few times. Tying someone up was one thing, and so was making snares, and sure sometimes maybe you gotta tie up your own kin? He guessed? But it just made no sense, like these cloistered-a** idiots that lived in cities. CITIES. Big hunks of wall separating them from the real life around them.
Yeah. Clearly they had 'em in Tale too, and Winta had to live with one.

Like you too not that he'd say it out loud, but yeah. She may live with one, but she wasn't the same sort of shitstain as these other useless morons.
"Heh. I've wished I'd had a spear. Would she even know what end was which? There's some in the city that I bet don't. ********' pol-i-tishans." Well s**t. He was actually paying Attention. Seems she liked the idea of booting her gram into the frigid wastelands.
"Marryin?" Wait, what? "Wait, she tryin' to marry you off? What a ********' waste of time. Marriage rituals are big and wasteful and stupid." And stupid singing people "I hate 'em." And he did. A lot. Except for Veshki's, but that was because it was Veshki. Veshki hadn't forced him to stay there, and had even let him leave early. That was okay. Veshki was okay.

Awesome weapon? That sounded neat.
"Yeah." he grunted. The Tale sounded like a neat place to go to. Big, open, deadly... exactly what he was looking for.
Hmmm.
"What sorta weapon?"

Winta's head nodded as Ruelash pointed out that water didn't do much. "You can survive longer on just water than food though." She added, showing that both sides of the spectrum were valid. Winta hadn't really known what it was like to go days without food, but she knew what it was like without water. That was not a pretty sight anyone should have to see, ever. "To keep me there." Her response was immediate and seemed to be almost a 'what else could it be for' reply. Winta briefly contemplated the idea of Rue meeting her grandmother and then quickly pushed it out of her head. That could go one of two ways. Either bad or really bad. The old woman did not do well with outsiders, or so she had termed other earthlings from the various other regions. Heck, sometimes she had her own problems with people not from their own settlement.

"I don't think I ever want to find out." At this she once more was grinning but her eyes seemed to convey the seriousness of what she just said. If her grandmother knew about them then it was possible to infer she knew how to use one. If she knew that. . . Well, let's just say the odds were not going to be in Winta's favor, nor anyone else's. Once more her reply was the same as his earlier question. "To keep me close by her, safe and out of trouble." At times Winta understood her grandmothers reasoning of why she did what she did, however, there were also many more times where the things she did were just plain crazy. Winta wasn't directly involved with fighting and the most danger she had doing her particular career was nowhere near what her future clients would be facing. It was probably because her grandmother worried that if she started making weapons she'd want to use them and then it would only progress from there. Winta wanted no part of that though. "I like weddings, I just don't know yet if all that stuff is for me." It was an honest answer. Her mind was nowhere near the place for settling down or starting a family. Any variation in between was also out.

Her eyes lit up at Rue's question. "What sort of weapon do you want?"

he thought about that for a moment.
"That's true." he said. You could live on water for a good while. 'Til you fainted because you had nothing to keep ya going. Was why he had dried berries and meat, just in case. If you fainted out here, was all over.
He had nothing to say about her grandmother. He was honestly baffled. He even blinked a few times, trying to wrap his mind around the complicated issue. His ma had taken him on trips. Veshki had gone on the hunting trips too before he was old enough to go alone. Jawaad got to go, too, and she was a girl! Thats how they learned to live.

Well, okay, now that Ma was gone he would have kept her close, but tying her up? Ma would have been pissed. He thought so anyway. It had been a long time ago.

He scratched his head. He didn't get it. He didn't get people. Her answers were there, they made some sense, but not really. Then again, he didn't know the broad. Either of them, he reminded himself. He had just met Winta a bit- what, an hour or two?- ago. And he'd never met her gram.

Funny, though. It felt like he'd known her forever.

"What do you like 'bout weddings?" he said, breaking the silence that he thought had drawn on too long. For him. Very unusual, actually, he was usually the master of hostile silence. But now he was, grudgingly, curious.

But then she mentioned weapons and things made proper sense again. "Something sharp and slash...y. Somethin' where ya kin feel the flesh catch on it and can get all up close an' personal-like." he said, grinning animatedly. Other than knives and maybe a sword, he couldn't think of something similar to his fantasy. Hammers had the feel, but they didn't go into flesh at all. they just smashed and that was great, but he wanted something that cut and stabbed and got him right into the zone of danger.

Winta was really enjoying her chat with Ruelash. He seemed to understand her thought process and seemed to hold the same fascination with weapons as she did. Thus far, no one had done either. So he was very quickly becoming probably her best friend in the entire world, whether he wanted to be or not. At his admittance of her logic about surviving on water long than food she just nodded. They seemed to share the ability to know how to keep themselves alive in dire situations too. He was of course quite a bit more knowledgeable than her, especially when it came to Zena, but not so much so that they couldn't find some common ground. It was nice to find someone who genuinely understood her for a change.

When Ruelash asked her what she liked about weddings she smiled. "Taking a moment to be a total girl." She paused and laughed a little. "I think the whole notion of finding someone you genuinely want to spend the rest of your life with despite all the good and bad things they do is just, amazing." Winta replied. Winta herself believed in the whole soul mate thing but when she tried to imagine herself in that position it just didn't seem like it was possible. Not to mention her mind was just too focused on weapons to give a damn about a relationship like that.

As the topic changed once more to weapons her interest was spiked again. There was a possibility to make a new weapon, one that hadn't been made before that just blew her mind. Her mind reeled with ideas. "My first thought is a knife. I wonder if there's a new type of weapon that could be used." Her mind seemed to go off on it's own with the ideas of designing something like what he described. Her foot throbbing a little brought her back to the present though. "What's you're favorite weapon?"

He wasn't having trouble listening for once, and he had never really thought of weddings in that way. Or of that concept, for that matter. He had never thought about finding anybody for him- why should he? He had the tundra and Bergchi. He just didn't feel that way. Soul mate? the concept had never crossed his mind, not even in a strange proto-form. But he was feeling something odd right now, something unusual that could be comparable. Of course, he had no idea what it was. Only that Winta was relatable.
He may know very little about emotions and nothing about love and romance and all those sorts of things, but he did know about weapons and violence. That subject, at least, he could talk about.

"Knives are good" he said, smirking, "This piece of s**t here..." he waved his handmade glass knife, "Its fun. even if it is dull and crap."
New type of... weapon...? Before he could ask, she had asked him a tough question.
"I like sharp things." or maybe not so tough. He hadn't really admitted that, he hadn't had to. "but ya know what my favorite weapons have got t' be? Claws n' fangs. Raptrix an' sailscales are born with 'em and they're real deadly. Ya ever see a raptrix tear into a carcass?"
Oh wait. they didn't have raptrixes where she was from. And she hadn't seen one.
"or one of them..." what was it that that hammer lady had said they were called, "Reedeki?" yeah that was totally it.
"Yeah." He didn't have much in the way of words for that sight. Except good. And he wanted that power.

The girl quickly moved on from their previous subject, her mind completely engrossed in weapons once again. Her eyes followed the knife as it was waved around in the boys hand. It didn't seem all that awful in comparison to her spear. In that way she felt admiration towards Ruelash. He had made something at the very least usable. Winta would make something even better when she got back home. She had to. "I haven't, but I've seen a Raptrix and I believe you." She added quickly. Seems like she had something to study on her way home. That wasn't going to be too hard to do either. Winta made sure to make a mental note of what type of weapon he liked so that she could make sure he would be happy with the one's she was going to make for him to test out. Which shouldn't be to hard to accomplish considering had specified pretty much every weapon ever made. Almost every weapon. There were some variations in between.

"I'll make sure to make it extra sharp and pointy then." She said, referencing her earlier comment about making him a weapon. It would be much better than her spear, that was for sure. "Any other requests for me?" Winta asked with a smile before putting her boot back on and trying to rise up onto her feet. Her foot really hurt but she could probably manage her way back home. There would be a lot more rests in between though. That wasn't something she was looking forward to.

Yeah

"Sounds good" He watched her try to get up and stood up with her.
He kicked the hut again. "Not stayin' around to wait for this shitbag?" he said, grimacing at the hut, before turning away from it, "Me neither." he looked back at Winta, appraising, "Ya gonna be okay? Walkin? On that foot?" he asked, legitmately concerned for once.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 24, 2013 3:11 pm

She nodded in agreement. There was no point in waiting for the weaponsmaker to show up. Winta was going to make some weapons for Ruelash and she'd visit again to see how he had fared with them. If the woman was there then, she would see her, if not then too bad. Although it would be a lie if she didn't admit she was disappointed to leave without having seen her. "I'll just see her next time I come visit." She beamed a smile.

That was a good question. Could she walk on her foot? All that way? Her confidence in herself dwindled a bit. Maybe her previous notion of stopping a lot along the way wasn't going to work. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Worse comes to worse I'll hitch a ride on a Mammu or make a sled or something." In reality she had no idea what she'd do. Somehow she'd figure it out. "I guess it's time to head back home." Winta extended her hand out for Ruelash. A handshake on their agreement. "I'll see you soon, then."

"... If thats yer plan" he grumbled, hesitating before shaking her hand (he'd never done that before) "We mightn't meet again." He took up a position to support her so that her full weight wouldn't end up on her hurt foot.
"... I'll get you at least to Liem. Then Ya'd probably be able to manage it from there." he said, feeling confused and grumpy. Well s**t. Here he was being helpful. Again.
Would she whine and complain like the others he had been so generous to? He ******** hoped not, because things were going so well and he actually liked this one.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 28, 2013 3:04 pm

Winta was a bit surprised by Ruelash supporting her but she welcomed it none the less. It certainly felt much better to not have her full weight on it. Yeah, he was definitely getting something extra special done to whatever weapon she made him. Or a lot of them. Possibly both. "We will." She said a little firmly. Winta was like a spider, once she got a hold of something she enjoyed she wasn't about to let it go. When Ruelash offered to take her to Liem she nodded. That sounded like a way better idea than she had come up with before. "I don't mind. Thank you. Are you sure you want to go all the way there though?" She asked, making sure he didn't feel like he had to help her. Winta was tough in most things and she'd manage on her own. Not that she would turn down his help though, especially when she really needed it.

Oh hey. Someone who wasn't an ungrateful b***h about him helping!
"No problem." I'd rather see ya again, too. An' not as a corpse the thought was strange and it surprised him, "Well, lets get goin, then."

"Okay, let's go!" Winta grinned happily. Maybe the return home would be quite a bit more fun then she had expected and a lot less painful.
