"Mmmm I'll tell you in the morning whether or not I'm in the mood for it," she concluded. Drinking in the morning didn't sound all that lovely- mostly because the drink had been ruined for her- but she could always try. "That feels nice," she murmured, leaning into his hand and sighing. Actually, it all felt nice. Lex's hand, Lex's eyes on her, the smile facing her and reflecting her own. Better than nice. Loved.
A look of concern crossed her face. "Hard? What was hard?" Mind the pun.

Lex shifted a bit, pulling the small woman a little closer and sighed a little. He knew he'd have to talk to her about this thing eventually. "Well...I guess you could say I was going through some withdrawals while at the beginning of our relationship." His hand stopped at her hip, and began tracing a little around the joint. "Sex withdrawals, to put it bluntly." He sighed, a little frown tugging at his lips. "I've never been the most...pure of people."

"That explains a lot actually." The reason he was so cautious about their relationship. The desire to be with other people. The skil-
She moved with him as he shifted, nuzzling his chest as he pulled her closer. If she was completely honest, she could see the reason for withdrawal. Having a healthy relationship and then nothing for two years actually kind of sucked. She just hadn't realized it was so detrimental because the idea of pursuing it never even crossed her mind.
The thought also occurred to her that Lex's feelings were true. To do something that painful ... it touched her. "My slate isn't so clean either," she admitted. "But ... Why wait for me then?" No, she didn't want to hear that answer. "No I suppose I should ask ... why so dirty before?" She covered her smile with her hand and apologized. "I'm sorry, that was bad wasn't it?" She sighed and put another kiss on him, this time his collarbone. "But I never really hear about your life before Deus. I'm beginning to think you really did kill a man."

Giving his petite girlfriend an exaggerated eyeroll at her awful pun (really Ami, all that reading and that was what you came up with?), he gave a ghost of a grin at her mention of killing a man. "You know what they say, dear. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."
Cue sunglasses.
He chuckled a little at his own joke, before he started running his fingers through her incredibly long hair. "Well... as I was told by a psychology major one day, I was seeking the love and attention from women that my mother never gave me." He snorted at that, shaking his head. "What I think is that she set an example for me that having sex was good, and should happen often. After she'd cheated on my dad, there was a new man in the house every week."
A deep sigh rumbled from his chest, his age catching up to his face for a moment. "It was...relatively easy to get what I wanted. Who I wanted, I should say. I played basketball in highschool, and I enjoyed swimming in the pool at my house. I've always been pretty fit, and my mother and dad aren't exactly ugly people - hell, my mother still looks thirty-five." And that was with only eyeshadow and blush. Lex stopped the combing and turned to face Ami face to face, pecking at her nose. "And when you're the manager of a club, you kind of have to be a charmer. You need to be able to talk quick and clean, and sometimes even deal with problems. You need confidence and, as the idiot kids put it now, 'swag.' Club girls fall for a guy like that - and getting them a few free drinks never hurts either."
He smiled, kissing he jawline. "Lucky for me, you're not so easily obtained."

Ami listened with the intentness of someone who spent hours reading and studying in the labs. She was still working on the emotional sympathy part for most people, but Lex immediately tugged on her heartstrings.
How he was able to talk about all this was a mystery to her. "Mmm you could still get anyone. The charm doesn't just come from your looks you know." Her nose scrunched up when the kiss was placed upon it, an oddly girlish giggle escaping her. "Though I suppose they help."
She sat on the information for a moment as Lex moved downwards, her hands cupping his head while her eyes close in bliss. When he'd finally settled on her chest, Ami took to stroking his hair lightly. "And dear old dad? What happened to him?"

Just as he had relaxed, Ami brought up the one thing that Lex never enjoyed talking about - the one person he didn't say anything about to anyone. His body tensed for a few moments, despite the hair stroking, as he thought through it all. This was Ami, the woman he found himself in love with. She deserved to know, right? She'd showed him her skeletons, right?
Grudgingly, he pulled out the oldest set of bones in that walk in fortress.
His muscles loosened as he traced his fingers along her rib cage, sighing heavily into her skin. "I-I have no clue." His voice was already hitching, becoming a little hoarse. Get a hold of yourself, he berated mentally. Don't cry. "He left the morning after he found my mom with one of her lovers. I wanted to go with him, but.." A small clearing of his throat, a huff of hot air from his nostrils. "He told me if I did, mother would sue for custody and win. He told me to stay. I got a few cards from him every now and again, birthdays and Christmas. When I got older the cards stopped, but there was always extra money in my bank account around Christmas. That stopped two years ago, though."
His brows furrowed as he began to drum his fingers against her ribs, deep frown pulling at his face. "I miss him, though. Every day I look in the mirror and slap a smile on my face, I hear him saying 'Jamils aren't scared, son. Jamils are brave and they face they day with a smile on their face, a spring in their step, and a pleasant word for every hearing ear.'" His voice dropped to more of a whisper as he went back to her level. "He told me that when I told him about the shadows. He said he saw them too, but ignored them. He said they were a necessity - for every good there had to be evil." A pondering look crossed his features, before replaced with a somber smile. "He was kind of corny like that, but he always had some wisdom to it."

She could feel what she'd done. Not metaphorically, she could physically feel Lex losing himself. She knew that feeling because it was ingrained in her very muscles. It wasn't just sympathy she felt for Lex, it was empathy. Real, raw emotion for the man she loved that lay on her chest, breathing words into the very skin that knew them.
"It does something to a person.," she said, lost in her own shadows. She felt the rhythmic beat of his fingertips resonate with her own heartbeat. A heavy sigh escaped into his hair as she tried to formulate the words for him.
"You don't have to be a Jamil," she finally decided on. "You can just be Lex. My dear Lex." Without meaning to, she squeezed a bit harder than she should have, in case he didn't already know she was his. "And you don't have to smile." Her nose pressed into his scalp as she kissed it softly, inhaling Lex's warm woody smell. "Though I like it when you do."

He smiled again, this time kissing her on the lips, before closing his eyes and wrapping her up in his big arms. "And you'll be my beloved Ami." He sqeezed back, extremely careful to not hurt her. She may have wielded an incredibly heavy spear, but she was still petite and easily harmed in his mind. "My Ami that needs to smile more - but just for me, okay?" he started fiddling with her hair again, looping it around one of his fingers. "I'm allowed to be a little selfish with you, right?"

Ami loved Lex. She decided with his kiss that she would love him. Not just for him, but for herself too. She would love herself, to love him. If that meant smiling more, she would smile. If that meant only for him, it was for his eye's only.
"Your Ami that needs to sleep," she confided. "I've been up since dawn, out since the evening and now-" She gave him a devilish grin, "I'm exhausted." She scooted down and buried herself in Lex's chest, for once feeling safe and prepared to sleep. It wasn't often that she didn't feel afraid of the dark or the pull of shadows on her neck.
With a slow lazy movement she turned over and pulled the covers up, effectively creating a cocoon of warmth for herself between the man and the blankets. Her fingers laced with his when his arm wrapped around her, and Ami gently kissed his knuckles. "Is that selfish of me?" she asked back with a yawn.

And in turn, Lex would love Ami for her sake and his. He would love her to keep himself sane, to give meaning to an act that would otherwise just be another cardiovascular exercise, and to give himself hope and happiness until death. He'd give her the hope and love, the joy and the intimacy, that she deserved, and he knew she'd give it back. He'd give her a reason to live, to stay out of the pods. Was that how love worked? He hoped so.
"Well, you did wake me at one in the morning." He teased with a yawn, shifting a bit to allow Ami to practically sink into him. "It's a perfectly selfish request."

"I never said I was charitable."
---
Unlike other women Lex might have slept with, Ami was up before him. She couldn't sleep anyways, not even with how "exhausted" she was. She'd always been a light sleeper, and Deus had only worsened her habits.
But it did mean she got to snuggle into her own lingerie and Lex's hoodie before he did. It also meant she had time to write a letter.
My Dearest Marcus ...
---
With good time, she returned back to Lex's arms before he could notice he had time to notice she'd left the bed. Small things had to be done. A letter hidden in a desk and a call to Stormy about their impromptu day off. Strict instructions about guarding the codex with her life, etc. etc.
To lex's misfortune, he would find that when he woke up he'd still be spooning Ami, but the girl herself had found a book to occupy herself with. The Importance of Being Earnest as it were. Wilde seemed entirely appropriate for the morning.

Waking up to someone in his arms again felt amazing. Waking up to Ami in his arms, even reading a book, felt incredible. A light yawn escaped his lips as he playfully squeezed her waist, chin coming to rest on on her shoulder. "Morning." He whispered, kissing her cheek before letting her go and getting out of bed.
The fact that she'd obviously been awake before him didn't do much - he sort of expected it. Her reading? Totally normal. Even that she was wearing his clothing wasn't surprising, but it all garnered a big grin from the man. He shimmied back into his jeans with a lazy movement, gave her another peck on the head, and headed for the kitchen. "I'm gonna preheat the oven - join me when you finish that chapter?"

Ami's hand met the side of his head, gently stroking as his lips touched her cheek. Her eyes never left the paper, but she responded with a squeeze to his arm. "Good morning."
The only time she looked up was when he emerged from their cocoon, a look of disappointment painting her face. She'd quite liked the warm rhythm of his heart against her skin, his honey breath beating on her shoulder. It was shortlived though, as he announced he was going to the kitchen in her stead.
Her eyes slid to the page number, then she promptly shut the book and joined him in the kitchen. If he paid attention, there was a slight swagger in her step. "Acts. Earnest is written in Acts, not chapters," she scolded, standing on her tiptoes to get an infuser down from the shelves. She grabbed a teapot from the counter and flicked the water on in the sink to fill it. "No breakfast first? I thought you liked pancakes," Ami chimed. Little things learned from Madeline. Forunately, Madeline hadn't mentioned what had come before the pancakes though.

Rolling his eyes a little, but smiling, Lex surrendered to her correction. "Acts, not chapters. Got it." He bent down to flick the oven on, before realizing the butter had been out all night. Whoops...
Oh well, new butter wouldn't take too long to get to room temperature. TO her question about pancakes, he let out an actual bark of laughter, shaking his head as he covered his mouth. "How did you find that one out? Asking around to...never mind." He stopped, avoiding the question. "Eva probably told you - I taught her to make them." He smiled at the thought of his little sister and his girlfriend discussing him, actually. "And I guess we should start with actual breakfast, shouldn't we? Though a pancake is just a cake made in a pan." He teased. If Ami wanted pancakes, though, she would get pancakes.

Seeing as the pot was filled, she maneuvered around Lex and turned the knob on the stove, setting the water to warm up for her tea.
"Pancakes sound good," she concurred, knocking his arm with the side of her head before kissing the same spot quickly. "Real cake can come after."
While the water was left to boil, Ami moved to the cupboards to get a bowl, leaving Lex to get the ingredients from the fridge.. "Too bad we can't add chocolate chips." She gave him a pointed stare like this is your fault, but it was dulled with a warm smile. Considering all the ingredients were in place, she began opening packages, handing them to Lex to put into the bowl. "We're probably going to go plain. I ..." She looked down bashfully. "With all the purchases for the house I didn't have a lot to spend excessively on food."
