Strength. The only magic that I liked to use was summoning, or healing/reviving. Elemental stuff kinda pissed me off, cause it's different in EVERY Final Fantasy game. I'd end up healing an enemy, sometimes.
-plus, I really dislike Aeris-

I always tend to have a balance between power/magic, since there always are and will be monsters with either REALLY high def or res ratings, so a full fighter/monk/thief OR full wizzard/priest/summoner would get severly crushed. I mostly tend to have one "Dark Knight" style character who's ALL on phisical attack, even if it costs him his HP or DEF ratings, the second character's the support mage who deals statuses and most of the time is able to deal outstanding magical damage on the enemy with the use of it's elemental weaknesses, the third character is always the support/healer, but also not that bad at phisical attack... kinda like a Red Mage of the earlier FF games (GOD I LOVED that class ^_^)

Although it's kind of hard to get true strength in FFVIII unless you have magic sweatdrop

Myself, i'm a mix. usually i have one black mage, one white and then two powerful fighters. I use, on bosses, only strong magic attacks, as well as spells.

In my FF parties, I always have one fighter, magic person and one person that would alternate...

Id have to say theyre equal. Physical attacks are great but when you can have physical power and magic power as well, its great. Also, you can debilitate enemies with magic and improve yourself as well.

I'd have to say i use both. Brute strength in most instances, but in cases where i know the enemie's weakness, (ie machines are weak to lightning) i use magic just to end it faster. I also use both in boss battles. I usually have one fighter, one mage, and one support who can fight and heal, whatever's needed.

I'd have to say both, too. It's a tough choice, though.
