Malodore chuckled, less a sound and more a vibration deep in its throat. "You are a wicked creature, mia cara..." It stilled as she checked her phone, nodding once she had mentioned Jericho's status. "That is good, at least. I would hate for any harm to come to him because of my actions."

It squeezed back, twining its fingers through hers. "Never," it said, promising again with that word. "What paths have you been considering?"

Riley merely nodded her head at its assessment - it was true. She was a wicked, wicked creature. And quite proud of it, in fact.

The question of where her paths were leading had a remarkably simple answer, for once. But she enjoyed making things more complicated. The path of destruction, actually. She murmured with an affectionate - almost loving tone. I don't know if it suits me, just yet. But I've walked the path of conquest for so long, and it has not led me where I expected it. So I'm going to try something new for a while.

She glanced up at her plague doctor, her eyes glimmering with intrigue. The Heir to War has approached me. She and I have made an agreement, of sorts. Her eyes crinkled with mirth. It's the first time since my death that I felt like I was headed somewhere tangible. I'm not sure how permanent it will be, but who knows? Maybe this was what I was meant to be.

She sat up, and peered down at the plague doctor from above. I've always craved power, but I wanted it the way my hive has taught me to want it. This is.. a different way.

"Destruction?" Malodore tilted its head to one side, just a tiny bit; any more, it feared, would make the ache come back. Somehow it had always mentally paired Riley with Invictus, but truth be told it was happy enough not to think of Conquest. Not when the memories of that Isle were so bound up with pain; not when for some months its thoughts of that Clan were like knives buried deep in its unbeating heart.

"Eris... I do not know her, not well. I have seen her, but only briefly. She wields fire," it added, with a twitch it could not suppress. "Still, if she is worthy of your time and energy, I could forgive her that." Its tone was teasing, yet bemused. "It is an interesting path, to be sure. Not one I was expecting, but I was also not expecting Red. Today seems determined to confound me... and, in truth, perhaps I needed confounding."

It looked up at her. Hmm. It rather liked looking up at her, strangely.

"Only... be careful, mia cara," it said, slowly. "When I was in the Isle of Famine, I saw what they did to humans - not Hunters, but just humans. When I saw that, I thought... I could see, then, almost, why the Hunters were driven to do what they have done." It sighed, obviously disquieted by the thought; uncertainty emanated from it along with the memory of twisted limbs and iron bars. "I would not see you drawn up into their endless strife any more than we have already been, if it is avoidable."

Riley held back the chuckle that tried to escape when Malodore twitched at the idea of fire. When not actually in danger of it, she found its (rightful) fear of fire so endearing. Perhaps it was because she did not share the feeling, and anything that she had to experience solely through Malodore's eyes felt special. Even fear. Or the confusion it felt at the day.

I will be careful. I promise. After all, it's only a game. I'm good at games. Her tentacle brushed along the edge of Malodore's neck affectionately. The hunters were formed because of the horsemen's rather unusual methods. That doesn't change the fact that they are our enemies - in fact, it makes them easier to understand. But you're right. She sighed, her thoughts muddled with fondness as she stared down at it. It would be best not to let myself get too caught up in their cause. It was their fault, to begin with. I'm merely trying the clan of War on. Her tentacle slid up, snatching the hat off of Malodore's head wickedly, and placed it on her own. Like a hat.

Her head tilted. How do I look?

Malodore opened its beak in a smile. "You know, you are the only being in all Halloween - or anywhere else - that can do that," it said, with an amused fondness. "You look quite dashing. Red is most becoming on you. It is, no doubt, why we are such a handsome pair. An excellent hypothesis."

It trusted her. Of course she would understand the vagaries of the situation - how could she not? The day Riley was blinded to all sides of an issue was the day... well. It was a day that would never happen, of that Malodore was quite sure. "What will you be doing with Eris, then? May I... perhaps meet her? I would like to. Of the Horsemen, I know only Invictus. And Fai, of Famine Clan."

Riley's eyes slitted and a low, contented rumble left her physical form. She liked hearing that. A lot. She wanted no one touching Malodore - or its hat - but her. She brought the hat back, settling it gently on Malodore's head once more, and then held the lip up so she could lean in without hitting against it. It was right, of course. She knew she was suited to the color red. But whenever she saw it, or wore it, all it ever did was remind her of her plague doctor. And that was why it was her favorite color, now.

Eris has not made it clear yet what her offer will entail, but my guess is that she wishes to reclaim a world for her people. If that is the case, then she likely wants me to fight with her to do so. And that is why the path leads me to destruction. Her claws shifted instinctively, tightening and then loosening their hold. If I fight for her, she will fight for me. And I suppose I will carve my name out in blood, for all to see. She sounded more than a little apathetic about the prospect. For as long as it interests me.

Riley blinked, and nodded. Of course you can meet her. She isn't hard to find. Shall I set something up?

"A world?" Malodore tilted towards her again, settling against her warmth. "How many are there, then? I thought the humans only had the one - unless she means to practice her domain on another target?" An interesting thought, though the memory of the twisted human forms in Isle of Famine still haunted it. They were gone, now, blasted to so much rubble and slag along with everything else in the Four Isles. A cold sort of 'rescue', that.

"I would like that," it added, to her offer. "I admit, I find it... somewhat difficult to be around Horsemen. Both for the mixed feelings that you know of, and because for a long time they were living reminders of pain for me." It tightened its grip on her hand, fiercely. "That last is no longer true, but... it is the same as with Red and the Insanity. Something in me still cringes away, afraid of being hurt."

The humans only have one, as far as I know as well. I suppose.. the horsemen might not be picky. Whatever world they take, they would probably mold into their image. She chuckled mirthlessly. For all we know, their actual target is this world. Perhaps they will be our true enemy, one day. And somehow, that did not deter her from working with Eris at all. Quite the opposite. You know what they say about keeping your enemies closer.. I've lived by that motto for my entire life. I still don't think it'll come to that, but if it does, I will certainly know more about the horseman than someone who wasn't hand in hand with one of their leaders.

A chilling admission, but she was clearly proud of it. She and Eris were the same animal, truly. She knew the horseman would use her, and Eris knew Riley would do the same, in a heartbeat. It was a tenuous connection, filled with danger. That was clearly why Riley liked it so much.

I will set something up immediately. I look forward to your thoughts, you always manage to have the insight that I lack.

"Hah! Mercenary to the last," Malodore said, a warm pleasure threading through its tone. It loved that about her, how observant she was, how calculating and clever. "I will look forward to your exploits. Only take care of yourself - I will accompany you whenever you wish, as support. You have only to ask," it promised.

Perhaps some excursions would do it some good.

The pleasure in its tone made her flush with pride. Then this is me asking. She murmured, bending down until her face touched the tip of its beak. Accompany me. Everywhere. This is my wish.

She sucked in a soft breath, and sat up straight, her eyes twinkling with sudden realization. Though I have a specific excursion for you to accompany me to, now that I think about it. I've been searching for something special to augment my powers, and give me an edge where I - until recently - so very much lacked. Would you like to see what I've found?

"Il vostro desiderio รจ il mio comando," it murmured, nuzzling at her gently before she pulled away.

And then an excitement lit her from within, like a spark, and it watched her for a moment with sheerest joy - her intelligence, her mind, was so incredible. So intoxicating. "I would."

She was going to get up to bring Malodore the book. She really was. But it so unfairly chose its words, seducing her back to it without even trying. She leaned down once more, her face not quite touching the tip of that beak this time, and her eyes glittered with far darker wishes than it had intended to spurn within her. It was at fault, really, and she would take no responsibility for how it could ignite flames within her. Just a simple few words. That was all it took.

Hmmm. The sound of her humming was intoxicating, as though a thick and heavy sheet of thought blanketed down with it. Her eyes searched, looking through those lenses for just a moment too long, with a silent, but dangerous hunger.

But eventually, she took in a long, calming sigh, and with some difficulty, managed to pull away. Standing made her dizzy, and she paused to catch her breath, placing one hand on the bed to steady herself. She really did feel intoxicated with its presence. It's.. it's here. In this book I found. She opened up the small drawer of the nightstand, and pulled out the thick, leatherbound volume. There are several stories of items such as this, but I want to take my chances finding this one. The book was marked, and she opened it to the page. The Signet of Avalon.

Malodore let out a vaguely dizzy sigh as she pulled away, but the solidity of the book snapped its focus back to the physical - for now, at least. "Avalon..." It was a strange word, felt odd in its beak. "What is Avalon? A place, a person? Does it say?" It leaned over to peer at the page.

Mm, it's a place. Riley flipped a few sheets back, to the start of the section, for Malodore to look through. A place of legend, so whether or not it's real is debatable. But the relics associated with it certainly are.

She pointed out a picture, of an island almost entirely surrounded by fog. Looks familiar though, doesn't it? She murmured with amusement. But whether or not it's real is irrelevent to me right now. Finding the signet does not require finding Avalon. I'll be collecting a few people from Fitness Club, because I suspect this journey will be physically enduring. And then, we'll go. So.. She tapped its beak with her finger. Will you join me?

Malodore chuckled. "Of course, mia cara - though, ah. Perhaps not... not this exact minute. Else I am more of a liability than a help, I fear... but Red said my FEAR should return to its natural levels within a few days."

It opened its beak playfully and nipped at the finger.
