User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Im a goddess." Caelia kindly pointed out for her companion. "The mortals like to give me stuff." And unlike some of her more grown-up peers, Augury lacked the sense that is probably bad for them.

Free stuff was free stuff. But before she could elaborate further, Sap said something so strange, so inconceivable, that it caused something that had not yet happened in Caelia's short lifetime.

Augury was shocked into silence for a few seconds. Little eyes went wide. "...You don't know what cookies are ?"

How could something so wrong be allowed to happen ?! Poor, poor Sap ! But that was okay. Now that Caelia knew the problem, she could fix it.

"It's okay. I'll show you." And so Sap was promptly tugged along toward the market. There had to be cookies somewhere in there !
PostPosted: Fri May 03, 2013 10:15 pm

"No...?" Was she supposed to know what cookies were? She didn't... "I'm sorry" she said, thoroughly confused. Was it bad? Had she done something terribly wrong? She was sorry... she didn't know?

Goddess? Mortals? Well that was confusing too! Sap didn't know what those were either. This was a lot to take in, So much information. Sap almost felt overwhelmed. But she knew she would recover. It was a lot of information, but she would take it in, she would learn.

That still left the confusion about markets and free stuff. She had to add that to her list of things that confused her.
Markets were for trading. Why would people give things away for free? That was silly! The whole point of a market was that you brought your wares and then traded them for other wares and then you had fun bartering!

What was a mortal? What was a god? What were cookies? The girl pulled Sap along, and Sap, thoroughly confused, did not resist.

"Oh... Okay!"
Even if the market wasn't a Market, it could still be fun. And she would know what cookies were, and probably lots of other things.

Caelia was on the case, and everything would be alright. That was what daddy said. Isolate the problem, find a solution, then fix it.

Daddy could be smart. Every now and then.

The market was not too far away from the garden - a few minutes of walking got them there, and then Augury would pause, looking back and forth. There was a bakery right... THERE !

"Right there, Sap." More insistent hand-tugging, and they would be there. And it was time for Caelia to use what she knew what was her most lethal weapon. She finally released her friend's hand to instead grap the top of the counter and lift herself. "Hiii~"

The woman working the stand would pause, looking at the little grinning face that peeked from her counter. Ah, yes. "Hello there, young lady. Evaded your servants ?"

"Nah. They know im here." Ha, as if. But that was not what Caelia wanted. "Im hungry ! Can I have a cookie, please ?" Little eyelashes started batting.

"Ah, certainly." One large chocolate chip cookie would be taken and given to Caelia now that she released her hold. "Have a lovely day, and tell your mother hi for me ?"

"I will !" If she remembered. Now, though, she would pull Sap away, all giggles. "See ? It's easy. They give me all sort of stuff because in a goddess." And pleasing her meant a shot at pleasing her parents, though she did not quite understand that. "But this is a cookie. Cookies are the best thing in the world." The cookie was handed over once they were out of sight. "Eat it, it's yummy !"

Sap just let Caelia drag her because what else was she going to do? Not be curious? Ha!
It seemed that the goddess was dragging her towards a... place that sold bread! Sap loved bread with... with... Cheese! Yes cheese!
So this was a place that made bread! She understood. Sort of.

It did seem that people gave the girl free things, as the woman handed a round thing over. Nothing in trade. Sap was perplexed. How did they stay in business?
But a lot of things perplexed her, so she just shrugged it off. She'd have to ask about the goddess thing later, though! That seemed like something interesting! Haha!

Sap inspected the circular thing. It was warm and it felt hard, but there was a definite delicate give to it. She sniffed at it, and her mouth started to water. Sugar! Butter! Chocolate! Not all of them had names, but Sap at least knew they were GOOD things. She couldn't remember their tastes or anything of the sort, but just that they were good.

It was a bit big to stuff into her mouth, so she broke off a chunk and carefully bit it. And chewed. The look on her face could only be one of delight, shock, and wonder. Miracles and gods? Meh. Everything was miraculous to the naive fragment.
But COOKIES.
COOKIES.
Sap made quick work of the rest of the cookie. Oh it tasted so good. Warm. Buttery. Sweet. A taste that she couldn't describe as anything other than happy and brown from the chocolate. She couldn't stop eating it. Until it was gone. She looked at her chocolatey hands in dissappointment that there somehow wasn't more cookie there.

She turned to Caelia, stunned.
"I think I like cookies."

"See." Caelia grinned, full of pride. "I told you. Cookies are amazing."

At least, the great wrong had been undone, and all was good in the world.

But one cookie wasn't going to make Sap's tummy happy, probably. And she couldn't eat all cookies. Augury turned pensive. "Hmm." She probably couldn't get a whole meal that way. Well, she probably could - but if her parents heard of it, well, they might be pretty upset.

"We can get you something else to eat over there ?" Augury was rummaging her pockets for whatever shiny might work for this purpose.

Zero Dream

Sap licked molten chocolate and butter from her fingers.
"They are!" Cookies warranted more exploration. And enjoyment.
In sum, Sap wanted more cookies. She wanted to eat lots more cookies.
Other things, though? Her stomach gurgled.
She supposed she could eat other things too...
"Okay..." Wait, what was Caelia doing? Weren't they going to go up and get things for free, which was what happened in this strange market?
No... Sap realized. Caelia was looking for something to trade!
Sap knew how to trade!
But... she had nothing to trade... Yet. If she scrounged about, she was sure she could find something, but wait... what were they trading for?
Food, right?
Well it was always easier to trade like for like... But, she knew from some fragment of definiteness and memory, wine was good to trade. Didnt matter if it was true or not, it was certainty to her, and certainty was what the fragment clung to.
"If we got good wine, we could trade it for everything" she had no idea what 'everything' meant, but Caelia did! And Sap trusted Caelia.

She looked about for a wine stall. Maybe Caelia could get them a bottle? Or maybe...
Actually, she had no idea what to do if they had nothing, or if the wine didn't work. The certainty ended there, in a spot of mind conspicuous in its emptiness.
"... or anything else. I think..." she didn't mind the emptiness- it had to be filled, of course, but it was there to be filled. She didn't think she had lost anything, until the certainties, the things she just knew, ended abruptly in nothingness. Then, she wondered.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Caelia continued to rummage though her pockets. Marbles, rocks, feathers...

But then Sap seemed to have a plan, and the young goddess looked up, blinking. "What's wine ?"

Maybe that meant they were even for the cookie incident ?

"Mommy and daddy will get mad at me if I let them give me too many things." Augury explained. "'cause it's bad for them. One or two small things are okay, but..."
PostPosted: Sun May 12, 2013 9:04 am

"Wine is..." What was wine, exactly? Oh right!
"Wine is grapes that have been sitting around until they taste different." Oh, wait, wine was an adult drink. Right? Oh well! She remembered trading wine for things, and people liked wine. She couldn't remember what she had traded for, or if the wine was hers, or... anything else really. She didn't even know what it tasted like. Just that wine was good and made from fermented grapes.
"People like it." She frowned. It was bad to take too many free things because then nobody made a profit, but sometimes a few free things were good for business and she had no idea how she knew any of this.
"I want to meet your Mommy and Daddy someday. Maybe they like wine too!" Her stomach, briefly pacified with the cookie, made this temporariness known. Yes. The matter at hand... food.
"So we get a bottle of wine, we trade it for food things, and we make lots of friends!" the lots of friends part was only half optional. Friends were good!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Oh ?" Uh. That sounded a little strange, but...

"I like grapes ! We should find some then." One bottle wouldn't be too bad, right ? And that bottle would get Sap something to eat, and everything would be fine.

"Where would one find wine ?"

Zero Dream

"Over there, I think" Sap pointed to a stall, then frowned.
"Or over there?"
It looked like there were a few stalls with fermentedy stuff!

"I like grapes too!" Sap giggled. They had so much in common!

"Maybe in both places!" she said, taking Caelia's hand and doing a little twirl before going to one of the stalls, "Lets take a look!"
Well, she was having fun.

She remembered enough to look at the stock first.
Well, this stall had Mead. What was mead again? She had only the vaguest idea, but it wasn't wine, and she was looking for wine. Not beer or whatever the heavy golden liquid in the squat bottle was.
She frowned, briefly and thoughtfully.
"Well it's pretty, but it isn't wine..." Maybe later, when she had something to trade with, she would investigate the strange pretty liquids a bit more.
She pranced or danced- it was hard to tell- to the next stall.
Yep! Wine here! Some of them had fancy labels!
"Ooo! Here, Here!" she said, happy to have found something she knew.

"I like grapes too ! Grapes were yummy.

Caelia would follow Sap along - she was the expert on wine, after all ! And she peered up at the first stand, or more accurately at the same bottle full of golden-colored liquid that sat on top of said stand. "Is that wine, Sap ?" Apparently not, from the answer that soon followed. "Um. What is that then ?"

Apparently this would be discovered later, because her friend was already wandering off. And this was wine, apparently !

So it was time to get into action. "Hiiiii !" She chirped. "Can I get a bottle of wine ?"

The stand owner did look at her somewhat dubiously. "Aren't you a little young for that, little lady ?"

"Uh, no !" Obviously not. "Beside, mama sent me to get some. For her temple." Perfect alibi, right ?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 10:24 pm

"...yep! For the temple!" whatever that was! Didn't matter what it was, Sap was going to collaborate her story and it would work.
"Her mother wanted us to pick up something new, and I saw your wares, and I would like to bring this one back. To sample." She masked the lie with a smile, and picked out a bottle with a good color to it and a fancy label. Her trader instincts told her that this would work. It should work. It had a nice label and a nice bottle and while you don't judge books by their covers, good wine would have nice trappings because they could afford to give it to them, and cheap wine would be in a crappy bottle that looked like all the others. Cheap wine sucked and really good wine- well, they wouldn't give a sample.
But this? This was decent wine- not half bad, but not so good that they would think twice about giving it away for free. Plus, she could trade it off. Or drink it. Her choice.

Wait. Wait wait... She was actually good at this. That was soooo cool!
Wait, could she push her luck?
"... And one of these, to save us the trip." she said, picking up another slightly different bottle.
Yes, she knew she was supposed to only take one, but she had a good feeling. She gave Caelia a wink. She was having fun...

Wait...
Wasn't she...
She frowned at the second one. She was cheating an honest merchant. whatever was left of her identity as a trader was scolding her.
She put it back.
"... though on second thought, perhaps just one. For transport purposes." the lie came easily, and now she saw it as a lie. And was just confused.
But she had to keep going, her stomach had a goal.

Caelia would simply focus on being as cute and adorable as possible when Sap continued, though she would earn herself a bit of a look from the little goddess when she asked for that second bottle. Should they really be pushing their luck so much ?

Oh well. Make up for it with adorableness. "Pleaaaaaase ?"

The merchant had been ready to refuse Sap when she went for another bottle - what did this woman think she was, a charity ? - but Caelia's charm was hard to resist. "Well... Alright then. You can have that one." Beside, having her wine in a goddess' temple would hopefully be good for business.

"Yay ! Thank you !" Caelia grinned.

They are going to get in huge trouble aren't they

Caelia's charm was infectious. Sap managed to keep up her arrogant air, even giving the merchant a bow as they left with the wine.
It was a good thing the little goddess was there, because Sap was starting to be confused about the whole wine-for-food thing.
"What was I doing with this again?" she asked Caelia when they were out of earshot.
Her stomach growled again (with very good timing on its part) and she smiled sheepishly.
"Oh yeah. That. Uhhh..." She looked around, overwhelmed by the choices, "Okay, what should be get with it?" She had no idea what other things were to eat, besides raw plants, though if they were as good as cookies...

At least, as far as things to eat went, they had a wide array of choices. "What do you like to eat, Sap ?"
