"Hm," Avery mused back, hazel eyes lingering on green. "Have I been sufficiently checked, then?" She took another slow drink from the glass, rolling it around in her mouth before swallowing.
"It's much better than I thought it would be," Avery's answer was an honest one. You couldn't expect much from your average college dorm whiskey, but Liberty had turned out to be far different from the average college dorm gal.
As the redhead made a decision, the brunette tilted her head back and finished her drink, neatly setting it down on its coaster before glancing back over to Liberty.
"Can you drive stick?"

"For now." Liberty shrugged her right shoulder.
The whiskey glass was surveyed as it passed from table, to Avery, and back. An honest answer was a good enough answer for Liberty, and she busied herself with the last shoe.
The question caught her off guard, and make her catch a laugh from the back of her throat. The look that she sent Avery was borderline smug. "Yes." Her pant leg was rolled down over the top of her boot. Snatching the two, unused beers from the table, she added, "I first learned to drive with a stick." The fridge regained its two beers. "On an old dirt road in the country."
"Five minutes?" After all, she had to dry her hair, and get her things together. There was this nagging feeling she'd be spending the night at Avery's, and Liberty tried not to get too excited over the prospect.
Eight minutes later, Liberty was sliding into the driver's seat of a Golf that smelled of fresh leather and ever-so-slightly of good perfume. "Does she. . . he? drive easy or stubborn?" Though, by the look of the car, Liberty was guessing smooth as glass.

"Well, look at you." Avery's teasing tone was borderline flirtatious, brows raised as the undeniably country girl. "Shame on me for asking, hm?" Of course Liberty drove manual, but Avery was used to living in the city, where the question had girls [and boys] looking at her like she was speaking a foreign language.
Avery liked control and power far too much to drive an automatic.
"I learned on the autobahn." Which lacked an actual speed limit and carried an advisory of about 80mph. While Liberty collected her things, Avery rinsed out her whiskey glass and picked up her purse.
"She's easy," Avery did an admirable job of not smirking from the passenger seat, "and fast." Hazel eyes flicked over Liberty as the redhead became accustomed to the controls in the vehicle and Avery hit a button to turn on the sound system. Immediately turning down the foreign dance track that came out of the speakers, she spoke again. "If you liked that style of whiskey, I have something at my place you might enjoy."

Of course she was. Fast, that was. Liberty was gentle as she turned on the car, touching it with little more force than she had the belt buckle fastened around her waist. The car responded with an eagerness you just didn't get out of an old, grumpy diesel.
It revved as she backed out, until Liberty found that sweet spot on the clutch. After a few minutes, Liberty was more worried about the other vehicles than what her feet were doing. In the few gradual turns they took, Liberty could feel the raw power in the engine, and knew she had hardly scraped the surface of what it could do.
"Why not?" Liberty answered. "We'll be staying in, and it is my birthday."
