Camelot didn't blame him for not knowing what his power was. He barely used his own magic, though that was mostly because he hardly ever got a chance for it. But that was fine enough by him.
"I think it is possible, yes," he said, looking thoughtful and distant, looking up at the sky though it offered him no answers to his silent questions. He tilted his head, though he was paying attention to the conversation at hand.
"Unfortunately, it is a war, and there are those out there who don't value life as much as others, be it their own lives in battle, or those around them. Civilians, senshi, Negas... we'll all be caught in the crossfire if the war keeps going, but I don't think the people are our real enemies."
He took a breath.
"I think Chaos is the real target. If only we could find a to drive Chaos off, to purify those that have fallen to it, or at least open their eyes to its corrupting control... that's why I keep fighting, and why I have to accept the risks that come with it. I don't want to see more lives end, and I fight to avoid it, to make it to peace. It always feels like such a contradiction, but then, it's necessary. It can't just happen without us working out butts off for it."

“I’m not sure of my path anymore” Athene admitted quietly. “I’ve… I’ve never been one for grand goals like some of the others seem to be – I just wanted to do my best to keep people safe, but I’m not sure if my little is enough.” He hesitated before continuing “And I don’t think I could ever kill someone… Not even to end all this. Actually I’ve promised myself I won’t.” And the dark-haired senshi believed that promises were for keeping. There was a distant look of his own in eyes as he admitted quietly, a slight bitterness he couldn’t quite hide tingeing the words “Running isn’t an option either.” And he’d tried. “I know that this war won’t go away.” Had learnt that its tendrils would find a way to tangle him up whether he wanted it or not. “But I'm not sure if I can find my path again.” He sighed “And I hate the fact that sometimes it feels like all of us are just fighting someone else’s war.” Because at the end of the day wasn't this what this whole thing was?

"That is not a bad goal, Athene. Anything you contribute, any person you protect or effort you make to make peace is part of your path. You don't have to feel like you need something grand. You don't have to feel like you're not doing enough, you know?"
Camelot shook his head. He knew that resolve, the idea that killing was off the table, and he tried his best to live up to it. He had accidentally killed that Negaverse Captain but he was not going to let that trip him up, let that alter his mentality. He couldn't turn to killing.
He placed his hand on the younger senshi's shoulder.
"If you don't believe in the ideals of this war, then fight for peace. I don't believe this war has a purpose, and it will only ever result in misery and loss. I know there's a way to stop it, without all of that suffering, but we just have to find it. I have faith in you, and I know you'll find your path and a purpose you truly believe in. You have come a long way, and you've been given this rank of Eternal for a purpose, not by accident. You earned it, and your heart is in the right place. Don't beat yourself up so much."

Athene was silent for a few moments after Camelot finished speaking, but eventually he shook his head. “No I haven’t earned it” he said quietly. “Not yet.” He may have gained the butt wings of an eternal, but the dark-haired senshi didn’t really feel that he had the right to them – at least not just yet. “But I’ll… I’ll try to earn them.” He hesitated for a moment before continuing “And I want the fighting to stop too – you’re right about this war thing having no purpose – just lots of people getting hurt.” And the worst thing about the whole thing was that it wasn’t even their war – Athene certainly hadn’t been given a vote about whether he’d wanted to be dragged into the whole thing. He bit his lip before quietly admitting “Although I’m not sure how much help I’ll be” especially given as pathless as he felt right now “I’ll try to do my best though.” Strangely enough the dark-haired senshi felt a bit better for blurting things out as he had – just a teensy bit – but a bit better nonetheless “Thank you for listening Camelot.”

Camelot nodded his head. He knew it was difficult, and he understood how Athene was feeling. It was not the best situation to be in, a young senshi struggling to find meaning in a war that didn't seem to have any. All Camelot could do was offer what comfort and aid he could, while Athene found his own way.
The Knight of Earth just hoped he would be alright, and didn't get too caught up in the negativity of it all. It was all too easy to get bogged down by how impossible and difficult things seemed. Still, Camelot wasn't lying when he said he had faith in Athene.
The Senshi would be fine.
"No problem. It's one of the few things I can do reasonably well." He grinned playfully, though not too much so. Things were still serious, he just didn't want the younger man leaving feeling worse than when he arrived.

Athene managed a smile back, a small smile – but a smile nonetheless. He sighed, the sigh more of a wry sound in contrast to his heavier sighs earlier “I guess I’d best start heading back since it’s getting late” it seemed that they’d been there longer than he’d realised. “And I have to get back before my cousin gets home.” Saffy had no idea of his Athene-related alternative evening activities and the dark-haired senshi had no plans to enlighten her. “I guess I’ll see you around at some point though. Congrats again about becoming a father. I hope everything goes okay” he walked a few steps, then half turned voice quieter than normal as he added “And thanks again.” Then after a small wave he was gone.
