Talakor turned to Ulir once Felix had gone to deliver the message. "We should get to the nearest seaside Hold. They'll be the worst hit when that makes landfall and they're going to need help." Otto seemed to agree if his headbobbing was any indication, and Tal ran a hand over the slick dome of the dolphin's head. He didn't know Ulir well, but the fact that the boy hadn't shirked his duty by trying to get the message on his own when he was struggling spoke well of him. He doubted that any of the dolphineers would run from trouble, so his suggestion, dangerous though being on the shore was, shouldn't be too daunting for him. The wild pod, which had been gradually moving off in play and agitation, finally stopped their antics and dove under the water almost as one. They could be seen leaping from the water as they moved away, aiming for the deeper ocean where things would be safer for them when the storm came. "I can always have Otto tell Nomah to meet us there. Between the three of us, we can make a difference there." He raised his eyebrows. "You in?"

Alright. They had gotten the message passed on, and presumably it had gotten where it had needed to be. Hopefully at least, but now there was work to do. And they'd start at the closest seaside hold. "Come on, Razz, there's work to be done."
To the seahold?
"That's right. They're going to need all the help they could get." He allowed the dolphin to pull him along, swimming along with him. The holds on the coast would be the most effected by the storm, being directly by the water, and he really wanted to make sure that they had gotten the message.
He'd hate to see their livelihoods ruined.
Boats first? The dolphin squealed.
"Yep. Just like we practiced." Ideally, they'd be joined by some of the other dolphineers, but, knowing how many places were going to need the help, he wasn't going to expect them. It wasn't like they would be doing the work alone, everyone in the holds would be busy helping out.
It was going to be a long day.

Ulir nodded. The Seaholds would be hardest hit. That he knew from personal experience. "Lets go. Quickly." he was in. There was no question to how 'in' he was. Vikkik thought that speed was a great idea. Speed meant he could show off his skills, and maybe make up for the embarassment of calling for help. Heeeey, maybe he could coast with two dolphineers! Oh yeah. He'd look REALLY strong then! "The most trouble 'll be with the boats that can't get in in time. We should keep an eye out for 'em" Ulir's heart was racing as he took Vikkik's flipper. They would go a lot faster together.

"Talk pass on," Ajax announced with a squeal when Xanha came running back down to the pier. The dolphin bobbed in nervous excitement as Xanha dropped down from the dock into the shallow water of the delta. It was warm, much warmer than the air, which was cooling rapidly as the air pressure dropped, but the dolphineer resisted the urge to dunk herself to warm up. She'd be in and out of the water too much to enjoy that warmth, so the longer she gave herself to be at least partially dry, the better.
Ajax came close, nudging the backs of her knees and nipping at her legs in excitement. He could feel the sudden strangeness of the weather, and it made him restless. Wild dolphins would be seeking deeper water, right then. But Xanha wasn't giving him the release.
"Where we go?" he asked, punctuating it with an emphatic snort of spray.
Xanha lifted a hand and pointed upriver. "The deepwater 'neers can handle the shoreline, we'd better get to the upriver jetties. And then you can actually help." She smiled fondly at Ajax, who rolled onto his side and presented his dorsal. This would buy them time, and she had no problem trusting the rest of the shoreline relay to batten down their own hatches. Taking hold of Ajax and sinking into the water, she let her dolphin do the hard work for the time-being and set off for the nearest upriver Hold at a breakneck pace.

"Otto, tell Nomah where to meet us." Otto turned his face toward the river.
He brought his head up again and blew a sharp blast from his blowhole. His attention then moved from his partner to the other dolphin in the area. Otto clicked in excitement and they were off. Tal barely had time to tighten his grip.
Otto thought a race a marvelous game, even if he wasn't the eventual winner. And sure, they were working, but dolphins rarely understood the need for seriousness except when there were injuries involved.
Tal took it for granted that Otto knew where to go and what to do without having to give him additional direction. Otto would get tired eventually with all of the running around, but Tal just had to hope that in the face of their first real test he would be able to hold out long enough to get them both to safety.
((@Dizzy-- I'll hold off until you can get a post in. ;3 @Tetra-- Kala will join you upriver as soon as I get home and I'm able to post!))

I have to make some apologies. I was not able to be on on the 15th, in spite of my best efforts. However, there seems to have been a distinct silence over the last few days, in spite of the high stakes in this event!
In light of this, characters have until Friday, April 19th to get in rolls and assist the Holders. If it looks as if no one is trying, the event will end, the Holds will have been warned but not sufficiently aided, and no prizes will be handed out.
Please remember, ladies and gentleman, that the prizes are meant to go to those who are active with their characters and flesh them out. If no one meets these criteria, the dolphins, sadly, will be withheld until a future date, and Trine and its Holds will suffer the consequences.
I will remind you again that you do not have to wait for me or anyone. You all have free reign in this section of the event to roleplay and roll dice. =) So lend the Holders a hand!

Kala and Matthew had been heading down the river when the call came through. They picked it up as it was being passed between stations, and the words when Matthew understood them startled him into chittering with alarm. "What is it?" Kala asked, frowning and gripping his dorsal fin. "What's wrong?" Matthew relayed. He turned his body to nose at the nearest part of her he could reach.
Kala's lips compressed as she surveyed the uncultured land around them. "There's a Hold near here. The Weyr will have able enough hands; we should help if we can. No storm can move quickly enough that we'll be in danger if we make for the nearest Hold." She pointed upriver, where they had been heading before. "Do you think you can make it to the next location?"
Matthew clicked an agreement and once he was sure Kala's grip was firm enough, he took off, powering through the current of the river in an attempt to get his partner to safety.
They nearly ran into another pair of dolphineers who seemed to have the same objective-- or a similar idea, anyway.
"Ho, dolphineer! Are you going to lend a hand to the river Holds?" Kala called to Xanha and gently squeezed Matthew's fin twice so he would slow down.

Nomah had turned them back towards the river opening after their message was delivered. It wasn't hard to adjust his course then when the directions from Otto came in. He gave Felix just a moment to prepare before he put on a burst of speed, dragging the young man through the ever choppier waters near the shore.
Nomah trilled as he broke the surface again. The excitement was catchy as Felix grinned wide, pulling himself up higher in the water to look for the other pairs. They'd already gone ahead but at Nomah's speed it wouldn't be long before they caught up.
Well, maybe a little longer. As they rounded a bend a small fishing craft came into view, it's occupants dragging on a heavy line deep in the water despite the signs nature was sending. Felix raised his hand in the water. "Ho! Big storm's on it's way! You'll want to get to shore!"
"Nah! We'll get there. Can't be nothing worse than this heat. These rockclaw pods need t'come in first!" To make his point, he hauled the wooden crate up onto the edge of his boat, claw legs sticking out at various angles as he opened the lid and dumped it's catch onto his deck.
Nomah pulled them up alongside the boat and rolled sideways to stare at the man, chattering his excitement as Felix spoke again. "You need to get to shore." He said a little firmer. "This isn't just a squall, word's already been sent to the Weyr and the Holds. The wild dolphins are throwing a fit. It's going to be big and bad and we're taking you into shore."
The men on deck narrowed their eyes at this young, strange looking man and his dolphin hanging on the edge of their lively hood. Felix met their stares. "You stay out here and you'll lose more than a couple rockclaws. Let us pull you in." A strong gust of wind caught the boats rigging and sent it rocking in the water. Felix and Nomah backed off quickly. "I've lived through this in Malvren! It won't be pretty."
The man spat. "And we've lived through it here in Trine! We don't need help from a fardling northern traitor. We're fine on our own." The man turned his back and began sorting through the catch. Felix was shocked by the hostility and turned to the other man on deck. "If I were a traitor I wouldn't be here trying to save your lives. Throw me a line and we'll tow you to shore."
To his relief a length of rope was thrown overboard towards them. Ignoring the sudden protests and squabbling on deck, Felix quickly tied it into a loop and threw it around Nomah's neck. Grabbing hold of it himself with one hand and Nomah's fin with the other to keep it from choking him he whistled and Nomah paddled firmly through the water, dragging the boat slowly behind him.
It was hard for one dolphin to do the task that normally might take two or three, but the young and untried pair were determined. Especially with the resistance given from the fishers on board. In time, they had the craft out of the worst of the choppy current and they were able to beach the craft themselves, tying it up to a nearby dock. No thanks were given from those on board and Felix just rolled his eyes. "Let Otto know we're on our way. Had a bit of a hang up."

Chrississ couldn't be more embarrassed. Her and her dolphin Dipper were by chance scouting some ox-bows and backwaters along the river when the message had come through. Dipper had gotten excited when he'd heard a message coming, though because of their location he couldn't understand it clearly. The dolphin had zipped through the water to find a spot where he could hear.
By the time she'd caught up with him, the only thing he'd found was a tangly mass of weeds. Chrississ had her hands full calming the dolphin and setting him free from the tough weeds. Once loose it was already too late and the message had been successfully passed on by another pair. Both dolphin and partner were chargrinned. This wasn't how it was suppose to be. Chrississ couldn't stand facing anyone at the weyr after that blunder.
"Lets go to that small hold where the child like to feed you fish. Maybe we can help there." She fixed the male with a stern eye. Eagerly the dolphin bobbed his head. The pair swam through the river toward the hold.
(Please quote me if you'd like to interact with Chrississ and Dipper.)

People were busy at the seahold, working to secure it for the storm, and Zenai swam up next to where a young teen was working on beaching one of the fishing boats. "Need a hand?"
"Please," the boy answered, relieved. "M'brother's supposed to come and help me but he isn't here yet."
"No problem, that's what Razz and I are here for." The dolphineer took his position, and then signed to his dolphin, receiving a nudge on his hand in response. He dug his feet into the sand, and with the help of his dolphin, began to push it ashore.
It was heavier than he had expected, but the boy's brother showed up shortly after they had started working, and with all four of them working together, managed to get it onto the sand.

((Rolling for a boat +2 for Vik)) Vikkik also took off like a bolt, Ulir more used to this. Speed was needed. They had to get to where they were going before the worst started. Long before. Ulir's heart was in his throat, and he wasn't enjoying the ride quite as much as he usually did. This was the first time dealing with something as big as this looked and... well. A mast in the water. "Boat. Vik, turn here.""But... race..." "Work now. Race to see who can get these people to safety the fastest?" Ulir said quickly, "You can show off...""OKAY!" squeaked Vikkik, making a hairpin turn just to show off with the spray. Ulir tolerated it. Barely. ~~~ They managed to get everybody informed and helped to drag them onto the shore. It was difficult, it took a lot of help, but things would be fine. Ulir was satisfied in this as he headed a supply line that carried the ships cargo to a safe place hand by hand. He had done his job pretty well. Vikkik was not so happy. "Go faster! he complained from the shallows, frustratedly splashing. He wanted to go back out there because he hadn't looked GOOD out there and he had to remedy that. And there was also the matter of the race... ((I think its the timing. It's the end of semester, and that's pretty chaotic))

To make things easier for everyone, we're going to place a goal on what must be done before the end of the event.
Dolphineers must aid THIRTY Holders in total in various tasks before Friday. This could be for any of the listed tasks or something of your own creation, but thirty Holders in general must be aided in order for the dolphineer's help to be a "success". I hope this will make things a bit more clear and more obtainable for you guys.
Good luck!

Tal noticed Ulir peel off, but when he saw the boat struggling into shore, he just urged Otto on. Ulir seemed to have the matter under control, and the sooner they reached the Hold, the sooner they would know how many other fishing boats were out on the sea. With any luck, all of those out were seasoned captains and would recognize and heed the warning signs of storming all around them.
Tal nodded as he clambered out of the water, shaking off loose droplets and pushing his hair out of his face. A man was striding toward him already, looking purposeful. Tal bowed, assuming that this man would either be the Lord Holder or someone else of rank. He held himself as one accustomed to leading.
"Talakor and Otto of the Trine Dolphin Hall."
"Horton, Master Fisherman. What's the news?"
"Bad storm coming in. The dolphins say it's likely a boat killer." The man cursed, but Talakor kept himself professional; he understood the response. "One boat has already been helped to shore. Do you have any more out on the water?"
"A few are out fishing, still. We're keeping an eye out for them."
"I'll go out and get them or send Dolphineer Felix, if he arrives soon enough. I have to warn the Lord Holder of the danger and advise him to start
"You leave that to me, Dolphineer." Horton gestured at the fishermen who were already helping each other pull the docked boats onto shore. "If you could lend a hand here, that would be best. I'll rejoin you as soon as I've advised the Lord Holder."
Tal nodded. They'd be more use this way; anyone could pass on a message. "We'd be happy to. Otto, boats!"
The dolphin clicked at him and vanished beneath the water to go aid the fishermen with getting the boats out of the water.
Tal nodded at the Master Fisherman again and jogged over to aid the . A chill breeze swept against his wet body and made him shiver.
"Dolphineer Talakor. Can I lend a hand?"
"We have enough on the boats for now," one man grunted. "Need to get the nets and gear indoors. That building there." He jerked his head at a long building with large, well-bolted doors even as he helped heave the boat another foot or so onto the sand. His work distracted him again, leaving Tal free to walk away without acknowledging it. He quickly moved over to a stack of boxes and hefted two.
They were much heavier than he had expected; he nearly dropped them. He quickly darted a glance at the fishermen, but they weren't paying him much attention, concerned with the boat as they were. He'd have to try that again, but with one box this time.
((@Draconic-- I didn't realize it was end of the semester. All of the universities I know of end in mid-May. That may certainly be part of it, then!))

Getting a better grip on the box full of what felt like metal tools, Tal gave lifting it a second try. That was better. It was still heavy, but he managed to lift it and started walking with care toward the large building. He'd have to watch himself if he continued helping them move boxes. The last thing he needed was to embarrass dolphineers everywhere by dropping one.
Tal stored it safely inside the building with other similar boxes. It didn't matter if it was the right stack; just getting it somewhere safe would be enough for now. The Holders could sort it all out later. They would be worse off if they were without their tools, after all.

((Look, sorry about my slow posting. For the past week I've been working twelve-hour days every day trying to get papers done in time for their due dates. It's grant season; this s**t ain't easy. XD))
Xanha lifted a hand in greeting at Kala's words, gesturing upriver before she actually spoke. "Figured the deepwater folks would have the seaside covered. I'm from the shoreline relay, but I know folks up here will need a hand, too." She quirked a slight smile, thin-lipped and tempered by the reality that the air pressure was continuing to drop and the sky was darkening. Under her, Ajax chattered and then dropped suddenly, Xanha's hand coming away from his dorsal as he bobbed up again about fifteen yards away.
"Boats!" he called, and Xanha turned her head back to the way they'd been moving, coming almost smack-dab into a pier. Whooping a nervous laugh, she headed for the nearest access ladder and pulled herself out, inclining her head to one of the Holders already fighting with a rope. He seemed to know what he was doing, so Xanha moved toward one of the other boats, a small craft that seemed forgotten in the weather. Taking hold of the tow rope, she hauled shorewards, feeling a bump resonating through the craft as Ajax pushed from the other side.
(1d20(18!)+2 = 20)
It beached easily, Xanha hauling the craft the rest of the way up the shoreline with a whoop as Ajax fetched an oar that had fallen out of it and shoved it halfway up the slope. She upended the craft over the oars, shoved down so the edges made an imprint in the sandy soil, and considered it rightly secured. And then she was back down the pier, heading for another craft.
