The foreign senshi had to take a knee briefly, and within that moment, a barrage of questions had been thrown at her.

"...I'm not sure if I'm able to walk... but... nothing got me... I think I misstepped in all honesty. Feels like I twisted my ankle, Remarque..."

The blonde attempted to force herself onto both feet, eventually putting some weight upon the potentially injured leg. Rather quickly she found herself crumbling forward into the world's senshi.

"...worst place for this to happen... huh?" she said weakly as she attempted to stand herself back up again.

"Not quite," Remarque insisted. "You could have hurt yourself after falling, and then not been able to climb up. Thankfully here, it's still mostly just a straight walk back. Why do you keep stepping on it if you hurt? Let me help." He approached and extended a hand without hesitation. A part of him was excited to have an excuse to leave, but another part of him was already mourning the fact that they weren't going to go just that little bit further.

"I can give you a piggy-back ride, if you like. If you want, I can take you just a little further, we can go to the edge and drop some rocks down, you can listen to them clatter all the way down? Or we can head back and see if you need a doctor. I can do either," he said, chipper enough. He was worried about her, sure, but at least she wasn't in the process of being eaten alive. This was something he could deal with, no problem. This wasn't something that was going to kill her. Probably.

Iris made quite the face at the mention of him giving her a ride upon his back. "I keep stepping on it because I plan to walk back on it and need to see if there is a way to make it a little less strained." She wasn't about to go crawling onto his back, but this time as she stood herself upright, she made sure to hold onto his arm as she once more attempted weight on the foot.

Once more, she buckled, but she didn't allow herself to go completely down.

"...it's going to take us a while I imagine... so probably start heading back now... I'll just imagine falling down the edge to be one... wonderful ride."

She was about to put weight on her injured foot yet again when she paused and turned to look towards one of the vague shadows being formed thanks to her gentle light.

"...I think I just saw something move..." she warned in a tense, yet lowered tone.

Remarque didn't even make an attempt to skim the area and see if he could see anything moving—nor did he ask politely before he scooped his arms under Iris and heaved her up. He was gentle with her—at least so much as he could have been without giving her any warning. "Uh, no you didn't," he insisted; he had no intention of waiting to find out if she had.

Remarque, of all people, understood the importance of watching your step while out here, in the darkness. He just couldn't seem to care about it right now. Immediately he spun and started trotting, fairly light on his feet, back in the direction they had come. Considering the (highly likely) possibility they had agitated some creature, Remarque didn't want to be a sitting duck—and if Iris' ankle was hurting, how far could she get before they mauled her?

They hadn't been in the darkness for too long, so Remarque couldn’t imagine it would take a phenomenally long time to get back to the Outskirts, though he was paranoid that there was a swarm of beasts tracking them. He wasn't very good at keeping his mouth closed, especially when he was afraid. "—Why, do you see anything now?" he asked, narrowly avoiding tripping when some slate slid from under his feet. It wasn't enough to stop him—or even slow him down; he just kept charging onward.

When she said no to riding on his back, this was not what she had in mind. Of course, by the time she would have attempted to struggle or mention how she was not okay with this, Remarque was already fleeing the area.

This combined with the fact she had indeed see something move caused her to remain quiet.

Remarque had to pay attention on what was ahead of them, which left Iris with the duty of paying attention to what was behind them. She moved her fist that was all balled up with colored light to the side of her face so she could look over what was behind them.

For a moment, he jostled her at his uncertain step, but he quickly recovered. She, as a result, had somewhat fallen face-first into his chest, which she quickly rectified by pushing herself back up and away with her free hand. Once she was back in peering-position, she watched carefully.

Her eyes weren't completely adjusted to the light, but every so often she was pretty sure she saw something come into view and quickly move back.

"...not completely sure... but... I think we might have something following us...""

Remarque had been straining to hear her over the blood rushing through his ears, but the moment her heard her voice, he was quick to insist, "Oh—no, I'm quite sure you didn't see anything. Quite sure." He laughed, a forced, humorless laugh. "All these fumes, you know. Probably just messing with your head."

There was a faint, sulfuric aroma; they were getting nearer to the Outskirts. Though he was quite vocal in insisting there was nothing behind him, he wasn't good at keeping up the ruse. "…But, uhm. I mean, on the off chance that you did think you saw something. It, ah, it didn't happen to look like a big cat with nasty, wirey, tentacley appendages popping out of it's back, uhm. Did it?"

He wasn't sure if the growling he heard was just in his mind or if it was the pockets of underground gas hissing beneath the surface. He hadn't slowed and didn't give any indication that he had intention to; if there was something chasing them then he didn't imagine they could outrun it. He might have been decent at sprinting, but at long distances? Remarque wasn't an athlete by any means.

Best case scenario, they'd just gotten too close to its den and it was chasing them out.

Worst case scenario, it was hungry.

The description he gave was quite specific. Far for specific than anything she had been able to make out in this darkness.

"...I can't tell... it's too dark to make out too much..."

However, despite her injury, the foreign senshi still seemed to have a trick or two up her figurative sleeves. Draping one arm out behind her current transportation, she leaned up close to his ear and whispered out "...I'll tell you soon though..."

With that, her Rainbow Ribbon seemed to lash out behind him as a loose ribbon of light again, lighting up the area behind them better than it had been when she kept it balled up at her hand.

Keeping her gaze upon the ground behind them, she watched while keeping close to Remarque's ear.

Unfortunately the first thing to escape her lips was a vague "...oh no..."

She had managed to see the claws of a foreleg of the sort of creature her companion had described. It sunk in deeply to the ground as it seemed to tear its way up closer to the pair of senshi.

"It's totally fine!" Remarque shouted, though he was well beyond skeptical. At this point, he'd have to have been delusional to really believe such.

For a long few seconds and a few good sprints, he was silent. Solemnly, he was trying to formulate a plan. There were options, of course, but there were risks to any choice he made. And it wasn't just his life on the line—there was a guest. And even if she was totally capable of taking care of herself, he was still going to hold himself accountable should anything happen to her. Except her ankle, that was all on her.

"You're just…going to have to trust me, though," he finally said.

Even if the choice didn't sound good to him, he'd made up his mind. It was better than falling and not ever standing a chance.

"Just hold that fancy light of yours up, I just need to be able to see. Kay?"

Remarque didn't know if it was in his head or if he could hear it, but he could have sworn he heard the rocks crumbling under the claws of some beast behind them. Some creature desperate to close the distance between them.

(Sorry for the delay, didn't realize I accidentally skipped this last time gonk )

Iris wasn't usually the sort to get worked up in this manner. However, she didn't usually have to deal with these sorts of dangers on her own world. There were similar dangers on other allied worlds, but she usually did not have to face them so head-on.

Her heart pounded against her ribcage as she attempted to piece together what she had just been told.

Trust Remarque. It was sound advice since he was at least familiar with the odd predatorial fauna.

Hold the light up so he can see. Rather than move her whole arm in a manner to get the ribbon to whip back so she could catch the light-energy in her balled up fist, the blonde narrowed her gold eyes and concentrated.

It took more work and concentration, but the rainbow soon enough seemed to instinctively move back towards Iris. Once the energy seemed to be balled back between her clenched fingers, she moved it to under the other senshi's chin. It would hopefully not blind him, but still be able to aid him.

It was certainly enough for Remarque; the light might have blinded him had he been able to really see in the first place. But he hadn't intended to look behind him. He planted his feet into the ground and skidded to a stop, turning to face behind them in a single motion.

He had less than a second to get his bearings before the creature came into view, jaws snapping and spiny appendages trailing behind it. It seemed surprised at the light and hissed. Remarque blurted, "Captive Audience—and too concerned that his attack wouldn't work he couldn't even turn around until he was certain it was effective.

The result was a few hasty, awkward steps backwards; the beast had the advantage of still facing forward, though strings descended upon it, gripping every joint and impairing its movement. It lurched forward, baring it's teeth, only for the strings to violently pull it backwards.

Remarque breathed a sigh of relief, but he was well aware that he couldn’t relax until they were out of there. The attack would buy them only a brief lead, but he was confident enough to think that they at least stood a chance, now. Once more he turned and took off running. "—Okay, so that went well, I think," he said, laughing awkwardly. He did not want this to affect her view of the asteroid, though he wasn't sure if this trip could get any worse.

Unless they got to the Outskirts just in time for a rock slide or something, that might just be the perfect finishing touch.

With all the running that Remarque had been doing, the sudden stop and turn had jostled his light source a bit. However, she managed to hold her arm up firmly even if the rest of her felt a bit out of sorts. Being a fellow senshi, she knew when he called out the random phrase that it must have been him casting his magic.

However, it was hard for her to tell what it had actually done. She wasn't about to question it though, since they were obviously not getting mauled by the so-called "monsters."

As quickly as they had stopped, soon enough Remarque was on the move again, and the blonde in his arms had to adjust to the movement again.

"...well... if anything, it is exciting to say the least." He might not have been able to see it, but she was smirking as she said such. They might have still been in danger, but it didn't seem like she was all that afraid still.

"Oh, yes," Remarque agreed, "There's never a dull moment around here. Of course, most people think the festivals are entertainment enough, so maybe there's a lessen to be learned from this."

Not that he was going to take anything from this. He was probably going to be back here next week, doing the same thing he always did. Festivals were great fun, and he could enjoy them as much as any other Remarquian.

Except he'd seen the dark side of things, and he couldn't just ignore them.

Maybe the lesson to be learned was don't take guests with you when you're doing things you probably shouldn't be doing.

He was lucky he was used to running so much or he might have been out of breath a long time ago; things were lighter now and a wave of relief washed through him. A good few seconds had passed and there wasn't the sound of claws scraping on loose ground or the sensation of something breathing down his neck, but he didn't slow down. And he wouldn't until they were well out of the Outskirts.

"Perhaps my idea of exciting is skewed because I live as a performer..." Iris laughed quietly as things seemed to settle down. Of course, now she wasn't exactly going to be able to perform for a bit, since that would require not having an injured ankle.

She attempted to roll the guilty ankle, as if to check the condition it was in after all the running (on Remarque's part). She winced as a rather sharp pain ran through her leg, hissing out against her riding companion's chest.

"...so... Remarque... do you have some sort of place where I can get my ankle looked at? Or am I just going to have to figure out how to take care of it myself?"
PostPosted: Fri Oct 04, 2013 11:32 pm

Remarque continued trotting and blinked, seeming perplexed. "Well, of course. We have doctors around here, we're not heathens. I mean, if you think you can do a better job I won't hold you back, but I promise we have professionals. But I mean, I'm going to be honest, it doesn't seem very professional to poke at it if you think it's going to hurt, so you probably shouldn't be touching it right now."

His voice wasn't condescending, but as someone who extremely disliked pain, he couldn't imagine why she would be interested in agitating it. "We can even get some ice for it, get someone to wrap it up. Hopefully you didn't hurt it more than just a little twist or something."

With better lighting, he allowed himself to look at her foot, though he himself was far from a doctor and it looked like an ordinary ankle to him. "…But I mean, if you need surgery or something, it'd probably be fine to get it done here."

Probably.
