"Amen to that. I wish more of the departments didn't feel the need to divide themselves as this or that and just realize that we're all supporting each other." He really wished the Death division didn't steal their stuff either, but his interactions with him were very few and far between. "I'm trying to work and give more support to the Moons, but even then working on trying to get more Suns into the labs to do some various testing. Hard thing is that the other Lifers sort of screwed over actual progress with their bizarre and hazardous projects." Bizarre only in a loose sense as everything Life tested was strange in one way or another. "If we're not bribing, we don't get anyone from other departments in the labs. Unless they are in the Infirmary, which I would love to see a lot less of. I'm not one for group bonding projects, but just meshing the departments better would be nice. I don't know a lot of people from the other departments aside from a few spars." And Melvin loved to know people.
"The only way I know to get any groups together is with booze and holidays, and I'd like to have a sober event not on a holiday. Just don't know how to even start doing that, not that we've had much time to do just that." He mused openly.

"I'm a mist, it's my job to interact with other divisions and this project, Jordan, sound's like the perfect thing for a mist to be involved in." He looked at Melvin lamenting the testing issues and shrugged. "Let's face it, the Life labs did a lot more harm then good when it came to some of their testing. Most people don't like working with the Life division because you never know what they're actually up too."
The talk of Killzone though made him grow quiet, he had been there, seen the man die. All while trying to patch Rep up almost hopelessly among all the chaos. It wasn't the most pleasant of memories.
"Well, this is a group right? Three friends, pot of coffee, spontaneous and relaxed. Has to count for something right?"

"Penguin bandages," Jordan grumbled. Then, more seriously, he said, "The labs are responsible for the tech that makes our lives easier, and we'd be hurting a lot more without runic bandages." He smirked a little. "It would be easier to get people in to test things without the weird pranks, though."
He sat back thoughtfully. "Coffee is a good start," he agreed. "I'd be willing to donate towards the cause. I'd also suggest keeping groups small, at least to begin with. Social dynamics will be easier to work out if you have people starting to make connections already." He shrugged. "Hunters are a little bit crazy. It's part of the job qualifications. The trouble is getting the kinds of crazy that work well together into the same room."

Melvin rose up to refill his cup. "Ro, you can have another cup." As he moved to the coffee pot to fill his own mug, he glanced at Jordan. "I think I must have missed that on my resume. We all seem pretty sane here, unless you have something to tell us, Jordan." Melvin wasn't going to be grouped with the crazy on this island. He was one of the few sane people here.
He moved back to the table to settle down. "A mist, a sun, and a lifer. We could work to pull strings in each of our departments if we work together at it. It could be essential to make ties between small groups to help each other out." It was a nice idea.
Stretching, Melvin picked up his tablet and started to poke at it. "And what are you all interested in, aside from bringing groups together and being a shoulder to cry on?" He glanced over the frames of his goggles.

"Easier yes, but that doesn't justify the other things I've seen and heard them do. I mean hell, the Life labs training course is proof enough that those Lab folks are nuts." He looked at Melvin as he said this smiling sheepishly as his mug was refilled, "No offense or anything, you aren't like that. But the senior ones are for sure."
"And the crazy is more so... not like deranged crazy? But we've all experienced things in our lives that most people don't. It leaves a few kinks in the system. Things we don't really talk about." He leaned back in his chair getting comfortable as he took a long sip from the coffee.
"I'm willing to help in both projects, counseling and tactics. As for chipping away at the division to get funds for this I think I'd go through Candace and see about having her join us. I'm still a trainee so having a Mist Hunter weigh in and help out could probably loosen things up to get supplies and aid for the projects."
Looking past his mug at Melvin Ro raised an eyebrow wondering what that question really meant, there was something about the way Melvin was looking at the other two hunters that made Roland feel like he was in a test of some sort.
"Protecting people honestly. If I wasn't a Mist I'd be a Moon most likely, the difference is I think helping and protecting extends beyond just being a physical barrier between someone and danger."

"There's a certain degree of crazy involved in accepting the offer in the first place, I'd contend," Jordan said, grinning. "And in being able to handle some of the things that qualify as normal in a Hunter's life." "I'd really appreciate the help," he said to both of them, nodding. Having friends in other divisions, people willing to give him a hand when necessary, was invaluable. He gave Melvin a thoughtful look at the wording of his question, but didn't correct him. "I'm always interested in how people work," he said. "Together and individually."

Melvin added some cream and sugar to his coffee and drank as he listened. "Well I guess we're all on the same page. Nice to hear there aren't people eager to cut the first throat of a hunter because their little feelings got hurt. Call me ignorant and new, but I haven't exactly noticed any sort of team in much of anywhere here aside from when a command is barked." And even then, everyone seemed to either protect their friends or themselves.

Roland drank from his mug shrugging, "I've helped whoever I can. Doesn't really matter division since well, we're kind of in a life or death thing. I spent most of the Islands big invasion trying to keep Rep taped together actually. Then again he was one of...." He counted on his fingers, "Three people I really knew at the time?"
Slouching down in his chair he got more comfortable. "So besides all the meetings and planning things, what have you both been up too? Personally, just to pass the time." He nodded at Jordan, "If I recall don't you have a ring on your finger now?"

"I think," Jordan said meditatively, "that the previous apocalypse might've disrupted the way things are supposed to work. The death toll then was pretty significant, and if I have my information right, it included all the division leads at the time. If that's so, there might've been missteps leading to the disorganization and separation that exists now. Hard to say. But worth a thought, anyway." He studied Melvin. "There's some personal alliances, people with favorites, but that doesn't really count for what you're talking about. But with the Council gone, we might get some actual change in the way things work. Hopefully for the better." "Research," he said to Ro, with a slightly rueful smile that warmed a bit when Ro mentioned the ring. "We haven't had much time to plan anything. I don't want to make a huge deal out of it, personally, but that'll be up for discussion."

Melvin turned to Jordan now that the ring was brought up. Right? The weird little triangle that was Jordan's relationship and their unorthodox idea of getting a threesome marriage. Now that was a conversation.
"Talking? I thought that with having rings, the matter would have been discussed to in some degree. Not any vague plans?" He asked, not addressing Ro's question and instead focusing on Jordan. "Actually...."
Melvin leaned in his chair as he held his mug, taking another sip as something dawned on him. "How did you three even start dating?" He hadn't been around for whatever dynamics that would result in 3 men dating.

"Well, we're in agreement on the general idea," Jordan said dryly, "but the details are still under negotiation." That was overstating it, sort of, but hell, they'd been busy.
He hesitated at the last question, and hedged, "It's complicated."

Ro's face couldn't grin anymore at Jordan's smile, he knew the guy well enough to know that this relationship was the corner stone of his whole life and seeing him that happy was generally rewarding considering all the crap they went through. "Awh c'mon you have to let me treat you guys out to something, or gifts at least. Especially you and Rep, you two where the first people I met in this mad house. And whatever you do end up doing you bet I'm going if there's any kind of ceremony."
What came next though made Ro's eye's widen, "Melvin, not cool."

Melvin just looked over at Ro. "Not cool? How so? I'm asking, Ro. I'm not asking who bites the pillow here. Please." He waved off any shock that Ro might have at what Melvin considered a harmless question about people he knew and often talked to on a daily basis. Rep at the very least, but Rep was rather protective of even saying a single thing about Jordan or Harrison other than they were his and he'd kill someone if they so much as seemed interested in either of them. Ro was a perfect example of that.
"Complicated? How so?" He continued to watch Jordan. "We're all friends here after all, and I'm not going to the labs anytime soon. I talk to Rep often enough to know you and Harrison are worth killing over." Nope, Jordan. Melvin was not easily brushed aside when it came to asking about things.

"Yeah, it's not like there's any legalities we have to worry about, but some kind of ceremony, anyway," Jordan said, sounding pleased.
He snorted at Ro's apparent shock, though. "I don't mind. It's just that seriously, it's complicated. Uh, hm. Just a sec." He got up and went to pour himself another cup of coffee while he sorted things out in his head. Once he'd sat back down, he took a sip of coffee and started, "Harrison and I met first, before Rep was out of the pod or anything. You guys know how frequently weird s**t happens around here - well, the Christmas before last, s**t got pretty weird for most of the month of December, and, well, one of those episodes of weird involved mistletoe." He grinned sheepishly and shrugged one shoulder. "So for the next few months, the two of us kind of cautiously danced around trying to figure out if there was any actual interest involved there or if it had just been loaded mistletoe, because seriously - you can't always tell when Life division is involved - uh - sorry, Melvin, but it's true."
"Rep got decanted February-ish, and he was being a huge a*****e to everyone at that point, behavior about three times worse than it is now. Yes, really," he added. "I honestly kind of hated him at first, but after having met him and sparred with him - " he shrugged. "I dunno what it was, but I had this sense that there was more to him than what he was letting show. So we wound up talking now and then, kind of getting to know each other, becoming friends, which everyone including us thought was pretty weird, especially considering that he was far enough into the closet to see Narnia and merrily rowing down a river in Egypt, and had some pretty hilarious ideas about what gay people were like. But we were getting to be friends, and he and Harrison were getting along, starting to work together some, which I didn't know much about at the time - it wasn't us three then, it was him and Harrison, me and him, me and Harrison, all separately."
He sipped meditatively at the coffee. "Things probably would've gone on like that longer, but then there was the Apocalypse. Harrison and I dug up some information on the Apocalypse mission about two weeks before it was going to happen, and that kind of - uh - sped things up? I got up the balls to say something, so did he, but we hadn't really talked about it, we weren't dating or anything. More like figuring that there was mutual interest and we could figure out the rest if we got home alive." He paused, eyed his audience. "This is the lite version," he said wryly. "Seriously."
Then he continued, "Anyway, before the mission briefing, when everyone was saying good luck and goodbye on the field, because hell, nobody knew if we were coming back, I figured the hell with it, I didn't care who saw, and I kissed Harrison. Except that Rep saw that, and he got jealous, enough that even he couldn't deny that that was what was going on. So the next time I got a chance to talk to him, he was upset and didn't want anything to do with me, and when I finally got it out of him and then he stalked off, I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, and that was when I knew I was in some pretty deep s**t. Like I'd just gotten broken up with without having even known we were dating, because we weren't, except, well." He shrugged.
"In between the actual life-threatening and traumatizing parts of the mission, we managed to have a couple of awkward conversations and fights, and somewhere in there it came out that it wasn't one-sided on any side, and Ferros asked what the problem was in that case, didn't we know how to share? And after I got over being shocked about that idea, I thought that maybe it wasn't such a bad idea, because otherwise someone was going to have to make a choice, and none of us was going to be happy about it." The corner of his mouth tipped up in an small smile. "Of course, then we had to deal with two months spent in the underground barracks with just about zero privacy while the fog monsters were dealt with, and Rep's issues about dating guys, and figuring out how we worked." He took another mouthful of coffee. "But for all that it was complicated and it's weird, it works, and we're happy, and I wanted them and everyone else to know that I'm planning on it being permanent."
He raised an eyebrow at Melvin. "Sorry you asked?"

The only noise he made was a long sip of coffee at the end.
