He smiled but said nothing. He'd been very worried that Nivriti wouldn't like him actually. As much as Nalani had assured him she would, he couldn't cast off his old insecurities that fast. Everything had seemed to go well though, and if Nalani said that her mother had liked him then he would believe her.

"Sure," he said in reply to her suggestion, nodding for her to lead the way. His branch-like wings fluttered on his back as they walked along the lakeshore. He glanced over at her question and then quickly looked away, his expression a bit troubled. He was less guarded now that Nivriti had left.

Clearing his throat, he took a moment to answer. "Ah, well, my father is a very... reserved horse. He is an angeni, with no unusual traits. My mother is a flutter, and just as normal as my father. When we were born with our mutations, for lack of a better word, my father was very surprised. We should have been perfectly normal, just as they are." Izefiah paused and looked up at the sky for a moment.

"Father says there was a weird moon in the sky on the night that we were born. He blames it for what happened to us."

Nalani didn't really lead the way as they started walking again, just walked in step with Izefiah, wondering how they looked as a couple from the outside..or if someone would even mistake them as such. She smiled inwardly; she was sure they looked the very model of a charming couple, she only wished she could see outside herself to see how well they did look. But there, she was getting carried away with herself. And if she was silent too long..

'What's wrong though with being, or looking other than your parents?' she asked, all innocence. She was sure her parents wouldn't have thought her cursed if she had been born with anything that was unusual to the family line.

'I mean. I don't wish to speak ill of your Father, but I cannot think of any way that any future foals I may have could look that would lead me to think of ill-wishing.'

She looked at Izefiah as she spoke, her cheeks warm as she imagined everything falling neatly into place and being mother to his children. If any had his special wings, she would make sure they knew that they were loved no more or less than their siblings, and that looking like their father was a gift to be cherished.

Izefiah kicked a pebble as they walked. He really didn't want to have this conversation right now. Not ever really. The longer he could shield Nalani from his father and his twisted views the better. Still though, he couldn't lie to her. He didn't want to. He never wanted to. He would answer her as well as he could and still protect her from Auster.

"No, to most I guess it wouldn't be wrong," he said agreeing with her. If he had foals, he would like to think that he would love them no matter how they looked. He certainly wouldn't follow in his father's example in that manner. He would never make his children feel like they weren't wanted.

"Some are more better suited at parenthood than others, I suppose," he said, glancing over at Nalani and smiling. He thought she would make a wonderful mother in fact. She would be kind, loving, and fair. Any foals of hers would grow up to be the best kind of horses.

Nalani turned to look at Izefiah, coming to a halt under the spreading branches of the tree nearest the lake. Their path had veered slightly as they spoke, and they were at a slightly raised position so that they had a good view of anyone approaching. She realised she had done that sub-consciously; apparently something that Kodah had tried to teach her about environment awareness had sunk in.

She dismissed thoughts of her brother for now, and tilted her head to meet Izefiah's gaze, her expression warming as it did now everytime she looked at him.

'I'm sorry, I don't want to pry.' she said, deciding to be honest with him now she had come to her own conclusions. She felt that what her mother was sensing wasn't evasiveness because he had something to hide, more that it was a subject that caused him discomfort, pain even.

'My mother is protective, and wanted me to know everything of your particulars, family included before going any further.' she looked away for a moment, gathering herself before continuing, looking up at him once more.

'You are..the most amiable stallion I have had the pleasure to meet. And, I..' she paused, teetering on the edge, balanced between wanting to wait, her propriety in all things and fearing losing the precious thing she had found.

'You..you are in my heart Izefiah.'

Izefiah looked up at the leafy branches, reminded of his father. He wondered for a moment what Auster might do doing; was he missing his son? Did he regret what had happened between them? Izefiah's gaze went hard a moment. No. If Auster was regretting anything it was likely that Izefiah hadn't turned out the way he'd wanted. He might say he loved his son, his children, but Izefiah was certain that he would love them much more if they were normal.

Nalani was speaking to him again, so Izefiah put a smile on his face and turned to look at her. "You weren't prying," he assured her, his features going soft as he gazed at her. "I don't mind telling you." He didn't, not really. He would tell Nalani anything. He only kept this from her to protect her, and himself.

He watched curiously as she continued. Before going any further? What did that mean? Did Izefiah dare to hope...

You are in my heart, Izefiah. Those words made his heart soar, and he filled with warmth and elation. He'd thought that maybe, dared to hope really, that this is where they were heading. He hadn't thought it would happen so soon!

An impossibly large smile on his face, Izefiah took a step or two closer to Nalani. "You are in my heart as well," he said without hesitation, nodding his head as he spoke. "Oh, it feels so good to say it!" he laughed, delighted.

..What if he doesn't feel the same? If he doesn't feel the same than I shall be a spinster aunt and take care of my sister's children - that will please Kodah. The thoughts spun in her mind, like autumn leaves caught in a stiff wind. And as she thought them, an errant breeze caught a length of her hair, letting it fall in her face and she shook it away, her pale eyes fixed on Izefiah's face as the breeze blew away, shaking the leaves above.

Her breath caught in her throat as he stood closer, and she was choked with feeling as the smile spread across his dear face, and he spoke in assent. He felt the same way! It was with wonder that she examined her feelings, realising that by trying to hold them back and keep a measured pace, all she had succeeded in doing was make them bottle up and come to a head sooner than she had anticipated.

'It does? You've felt..I mean..' her words couldn't form properly, and she felt sure there was an entirely too wide and goofy looking smile spread across her face but she couldn't help herself.

'Your feelings, and worries..everything. I want to you to know you can tell me anything you wish.' Nalani said, softly, her head tilted towards his and she shuffled into his shadow, not quite sure she was meant to do this, but she wanted to seal the moment, and so she brushed her cheek against his, drawing back afterwards with a flushed face from her own daring.

Izefiah had thought that his chances at love had vanished with Neela. A fellow mutant, he had thought she would be the only mare capable of loving him and he had foolishly lost that love. He had never dreamed another mare would care for him so and his heartache would end so soon. Meeting Nalani had been beyond comprehension for him, but he was so grateful that he had.

He was taken completely by surprise when she stepped close and brushed her cheek against his. His skin felt hot where hers had touched it, and his smile became even brighter. "Nalani," he said, turning his head to return the affectionate gesture with one of his own, brushing his nose against her neck.

"Thank you," he said softly, referring to her assurance that he could tell her anything. "I will, in time. I left my father for a reason, but the wound is too sore to discuss right now. I hope that is okay?"

'Izefiah..' she said his name with affection, the word sounding as though she were cherishing every syllable, which she was.

'Whenever you are ready to speak of it, know that I will listen.' the touch of his nose on her neck had sent a tiny shiver down her body. It was pleasing, and scary all at once, like a headlong dash down a steep hill.

She smiled up at him again, unable to stop looking into his eyes, looking at his handsome face. She was content to stand there, just enjoying his company as the soft summer breeze drifted through the leaves above them.
