"I told Lukou the same things growing up. Emotion is bad here. Didn't stop her, so obviously it's not stopping you." He snorted and continued on his walk around the deep water, keeping an eye out for movement along the way.
"Sit on them, huh?" He laughed a bit at the thought of her sitting on anyone. Comparatively, she would probably have an easy time sitting on his sister with how lithe she was. Perhaps not a bad idea...might keep her under control a bit. "Might have to keep you as a sitting pet. Lukou could use the punishment in my opinion."
Amani stopped again after a short time and focused intently on a spot nearby in the water. It was just far enough out he wasn't going to risk jumping in. He could move through the shallow water and mud, but swimming was a foreign concept to him, despite the fact his own mother could swim. However, baiting the gator closer was another story altogether.
"C'mere." He called to Pip, giving her a look.

“Why is emotion bad?” She asked as she watched him carefully. “I don’t see why it would be, is it not nice to know someone cares about you?” She asked again canting her head to the side, as she really didn’t understand. She had always thought showing someone you cared was a good thing. To show emotion was to let others know you were sincere in what you were saying. She couldn’t imagine it being a bad thing.
“Yes sit on them…” She trailed off looking at him before snorting. “Keep me around as a sitting pet… really? My brother would be beside himself at the thought. I’m sure of it.” She stated in amusement before stepping forward. “You realize…” She let the thought trail off. “No. Never mind.” She really did wonder though, if he realized she was more likely to end up befriending and playing with his sister as opposed to just sitting on her.
“Hmm?” She asked prancing forward to stand beside him. “What?” She asked looking out over the water. “Do you see a gator?” There was a bit of excitement in her voice as she pranced back and forth from hoof to hoof.

"Emotion gets you into trouble, whether you think it does or not. All the time. Lukou is too gentle, too happy...too everything for her own good!" Another huff and flick of the tail in irritation. He hated the idea that his sister felt the need to be such a free spirit when there were terrible things they all knew about. Things that haunted and threatened constantly.
"Forget it. Forget I said anything...just...focus on the water." He mumbled, watching the spot and waiting for it to leap out. If anything, she was going to be good bait. If she got hurt, he'd begrudgingly at least lead her back to be helped and taken care of.
Amani's eyes narrowed as the water rippled again, this time in movement towards the bank where they were standing. Perfect, he did see one mucking about under the surface and it had to be hungry. Not a moment later did the water surface break and produce long, huge jaws of teeth to snap at Pip's dancing legs.

She listened in silence to what the other had to say, and once again she felt sad. That was just… so sad. How could he go around living like that? It was just… painful to her in a way that she couldn’t quite understand.
She snorted, she would make him see. She would show him that emotions weren’t bad, and though he couldn’t share them with everyone then he could at least share them with close friends or those he trusted. They weren’t bad and life was just better with them. He would see, she would make him see. Even if it killed her, which at this rate if very well might; she wouldn’t forget what he said. Oh no she had made up her mind and nothing was going to change it now!
“Amani...”
Whatever she had been about to say trailed off into a squeal as she reared back heavy hooves lashing in the air in front of her. It would be a shame for any that got close to those thrashing limbs now. She brought her front hooves down heavy, the sheer weight of her body crushing down on the gator.
She backed up then, before moving to hide behind Amani putting him between herself and the gator. There was blood on her hooves, though it was unclear as to if it was hers or the poor animal that had just had a draft horse dropped on it. In her fear she had lost all sense of personal boundaries and had actually pushed herself up against him her body quaking from the sudden adrenaline rush. She couldn’t even begin to think straight or make sense of what had just happened. It had all gone by so fast that she had honestly just reacted on instinct.

Amani had one front leg raised in preparation for the attack, ready to grab the smallest part of it's nose and jaws and hold them shut. Shock quickly over took him when the mare he still thought of as small brought all of her weight down on the head and jaws of the beast.
He fell silent for a long time, staring at the slowly reddening water and the body of the gator before them. Then he started laughing. Laughing like he had never before. "I didn't think you'd have that much power behind those hooves of yours." He smirked and laughed again, reaching down to tug the body out of the water and a good distance away so another wouldn't pop up and snag it back.
"Here I was expecting you to be bitten. Chomp chomp on those fat, little legs."

She quivered for a moment before she lifted her head to watch him laugh. It wasn’t something she had been expecting, considering the circumstances but it was at the very least nice to hear him actually laugh. “I really just acted on instinct.” She stated softly as she peaked at the gator. It was a strange scaly creature with funny legs.
It was then that something seemed to dawn on her and she looked at him with a huff. “You used me as bait!” She squeaked in a rather undignified manner. She couldn’t believe he would go and do that, use her as bait like that! “Why I… you… just… ugh.” She gave a huff lowering her head to butt it against him. Almost in a playful manner, it was clear though that it wasn’t threatening.
“You are lucky I don’t sit on you!” She stated and though the treat was hollow it would be a rather amusing sight to see. She stuck her tongue out at him before prancing around to sniff at the gator. She was so interested in it, curious as to how it lived in the water, how it moved so fast with such squat legs.

"You were easy bait to use." He stated, completely unmoved by her attempt at a headbutt. "Suppose you'll remember that and take it to heart then."
Amani continued to watch her with morbid curiosity. There was still plenty to be afraid of, plants and fungus that grew nearby were just small things that caused a lot of damage. He figured it wasn't worth the effort of lugging around the gator to teach her about the plants. Someday she would learn. He at least bet that much.
"Sit on me all you like." He snorted, watching her sniff at the gator. "There are hundreds of those living here in the swamp. For the most part they pose no major threat, unless you're an easy target like you were. We find them useful...skins and all, and this one is going back to momma."

She rolled her eyes at him. “You aren’t going to win that easily.” She stated in a huff. “I know you may not like ‘weakness’ as you see it but it isn’t all bad.” She gave a shake of her head. “You should really understand, it isn’t bad, emotion I mean. Even if you don’t show everyone, everything all the time, there should be at least one person who you show some emotion to. It isn’t bad, and it’s not like they would judge you or hate you if they loved you.” She stated with a nod of her head.
“I would but you would probably just toss me into the water.” She stated with a shrug. “I really mean it… talk to someone about your emotions.” She stated before looking back at the creature. “That’s… interesting. They are pretty neat, different, but neat. I suppose she will then use it for whatever it is you guys do here?” She asked before looking at him then the gator then back at him.
“I suppose I should leave then hmm? If you need to take this back to your mother, like a good boy.” She stated rather amused as she glanced about. Looking perhaps for an exit, perhaps not it was hard to tell with her.
“I am staying out in the plains, though I live all the way over in the woods. If you ever wanna come and talk or whatever, though I am sure you won’t. As it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out you aren’t very fond of me.” She stated with a roll of her shoulders. “Which is fine, to each their own I suppose. I will say thank you for teaching me what you did and I will remember to stay out of this part of the swamp next time so as not to tread across your family’s home.” She said with a smile tail twitching slightly as she looked around her once more, quite unsure as to which way to head next.

Amani sighed at her ideals of emotion, still inwardly declaring that it was bad and would lead to the deaths of anyone in his family. He kept his mouth shut this time, however, and quietly listened.
"We use everything in this swamp and everything outside of it that we can get as well..." He murmured, kneeling down and eventually completely laying in the mud to pull the gator over his back to carry home that way. At least it wasn't fully grown...they might have had more problems with it then.
"Go ahead. Leave then. Go do whatever it is you do." He said, nudging her forward and back through the trees. He followed for a while, keeping an eye open to make sure she was going to get along okay before turning to go back down his usual path and on home into the grove.
