Signs of the quake, though not as significant here, still existed. Countless things were scattered across the floor in places where they shouldn't have been, or at least where they usually weren't, but that was somewhat difficult to tell when nothing really had a home to begin with. Aprife's hive looked only slightly messier than it normally did and despite the tremors that shook the building, there were only a few casualties among their possessions. One of Bumblesuckle's pots had tipped over and shattered, and dirt mixed with tiny lusus tears when the bee was finally brave enough to come out from his hiding spot under the desk to inspect the damage. His yellowblooded charge had promised to buy a replacement ASAP, just as soon as he'd had an opportunity to survey the damage across the far side of the city.

Survey the mass of displaced trolls, more like it. It was rather unfortunate, but that plan never quite came to fruition.

When a sharp knock sounded against the front door some time later, Aprife's head shot up, and his body did too, even before he realized the voice he heard in unison belonged to someone he knew. Bumbs had done quite well in keeping his snoopy little troll from wandering out and getting into trouble so far by blocking the door and looking threatening (more like in need of comfort). Zeffer would find, when he tried to get in on his own, that it had been unlocked since earlier when Aprife meant to leave the first time. Since then troll and bee had been sitting on the couch together, which was honestly pretty boring after a while, so it was no surprise that the yellowblood's think pan was already teeming with ways he could use his friend's unexpected appearance to get him out of the hivestem and away from his wibbling lusus.

"Course I'm alive!" he shouted, a grin in his voice. Bumbs was hanging loosely from his arms, buzzing in discontent, as he made his way quickly over to the door.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 01, 2013 4:17 pm

Zeffer nearly stumbled in as the door swung open, vaguely surprised to find it unlocked, completely disregarding the danger presented by a possibly upset and territorial lusus. A big smirk cracked across Zeffer's face as he was immediately met by the sight of his friend and the forlorn looking bee, only giving a quick cursory glance around Aprife's hive. It looked pretty normal, as Zeffer remembered it. He reached out to take Aprife's hand and bumped his shoulder against the yellowblood's, careful to avoid disturbing Bumbs too badly. Bro grabs.

"I was hoping it would take more than that to finish you off. You're alright, yeah? No injuries?" He asked, his eyes sweeping over his companion quickly. He didn't see any blood, no indication that that was the case. "Because if not...we should get out there. This sorta s**t doesn't happen all the time, y'know?" He looked up at his friend's face, his eyes shining with wicked mischief. The city was on its back now, nearly helpless to protect itself from the looters that were descending like carrionbeasts on a fresh carcass.

"I mean, I understand if you have to stay here and take care of your lusus..." he taunted playfully, eyes darting down to Bumbs for a moment before glancing over at the window, eyeing the plumes of smoke that could be seen seeping up from the skyline of the city. "But this is a once in a lifetime thing. It won't last for long. How have you been enjoying that video surveillance, anyway?" Zeffer smirked. He'd been avoiding the city for the past couple of weeks for that exact reason, keeping his trouble making centered on the Fronds. Now that the cameras were down, it was their time to strike. Zeffer took a step back as he glanced over toward the doorway. Even if Aprife declined, he wasn't about to let it stop him. He'd probably bring some of it back to Aprife's hive in the end anyway, if it came down to that.

In the suburbs the earthquake made its presence known. Deep, angry rumbles shook the walls, the foundations of hives groaning under strain. Mili stumbled on the bottom floor, clinging to the wall. From above came the sharp shriek of metal giving way. Without having to wonder, the troll girl knew: Owl Mom’s perch had come undone. Flinging herself from the hive (Owl-mom had hoot fluffed away in the chaos), Mili narrowly escaped the beam as it crashed through the ceiling.

A cacophony of sound reverberated through the streets. Collapsing buildings, shrieking wails of trapped trolls, and the angry alternian ground shaking joined in the uproar. Mili became immensely thankful for living in the suburbs as compared to the epicenter, where the tall hives collapsed upon themselves with clouds of soot filled dust.

When the shakes finally ended, Mili stood and brushed herself off. All around the groans of the broken city were plainly audible. Before she could make a decision on what to do next, Owl-mom fluttered down and dropped a flier in her hands. ‘Support the P.P.S.’? She thought skeptically. With a hoot, her lusus returned to the house, intent on inspecting the damage.

So, it was Owl-mom’s opinion that she ought to help out the P.P.S and deliver any beetles and help to them? B.I.G.S.I.S had given Mili a bad taste in her mouth, and the PPS was no better. Anyone with half a functioning think pan would know that those resources would be dished out to the highest bloods and trickle down slowly to the bottom, if they reached there at all.

Right about then, carried on the bitter wind, a crumpled flier bumped into Mili’s foot. Curiously, she picked it up, flattening the wrinkles until it was legible, and read quickly. A resistance movement, was it? Now that was much more desirable. It wasn’t the best, but better than giving everything to those who would misuse it! Chucking the paper into the wind, Mili returned to the hive and rummaged around, finding a backpack, two blank books, a writing stick, and a couple other goodies: water, beetles, some fletched arrows, and an extra writing stick.

With everything gathered she trekked into the more damaged parts of the city, leaving the suburb behind her. Closer and closer to the center of NHC the destruction worsened. A few roads were completely blocked and noxious fumes caused the mute girl to cough and stumble away more than once. Any cries of help from far away were drowned by the roar of fires and sound of wreckage being moved. Not that Milieu would ever wish to see them, but where were the imperial drones? Their strength could really be useful.

Eventually she settled near an intact hive stem and rested her weary feet. Normally shinning brightly, the city was dulled and dim. Any light was thrown by the fires and stars and dual moon over head.

Maybe going out on a limb like this was not the smartest idea. Staying at home was worse, though. Surely there was someone she could help here.

The grin he wore only got larger when he found himself being drawn into some awesome bro grabs. Since he couldn't really use either hand now, he bumped back a little harder, letting out a laugh that sounded quite entertained already. "Nope, no injuries. The greatest casualty so far has been one of Bumbs's flowers. I mean, the flower's okay, but the pot took a little tumble." As if offended, or perhaps distressed, Bumbs wriggled. Aprife, however, continued to look pleased. In fact, he looked even more pleased that his friend wanted to get the heck out of here. "Yes. Yes, we've definitely gotta get out there."

The impishness in the blueblood's eyes told him this was their once in a lifetime chance to get out there and take advantage of the chaos, certainly not something more societally constructive than that. There was no way Bumbs would be okay with him leaving if it came to light that bothering and looting was his goal. When it came right down to it though, his lusus was tiny and rather weak, and if he wanted to up and leave against the bee's will, he could. But he did care about his lusus, in his own way, and instead of traumatizing him or making him angry, Aprife suddenly got the idea to try something a little different.

"Bumbs... I really gotta go, Zeffer needs my help." If there was something Bumbs was always trying to get him to do, it was 'socialize the right way,' whatever that was supposed to mean. Zeffer was definitely his first real friend, and the bee did seem to recognize that; he calmed down a little as Aprife set him on the floor. "It's okay, right?" There was a long pause, but after some time he buzzed his consent. There was no hesitation on the yellowblood's part after that.

"Alright! C'mon, let's go." Bumbs was fluttering back to curl up on the sofa as Aprife grabbed Zeffer's hand and tugged him straight out the door. They were nearly outside when he finally glanced back and grinned again. It was surprisingly menacing. Anyone who knew Aprife knew he would be hard-pressed to say no to glances into the secret lives of his fellow trolls. "And to answer your question, the surveillance was... interesting." He laughed as he pushed the lobby door open a bit too hard and stomped out into the streets.

"Well, good. At least the entire building didn't fall." Zeffer snorted, taking one more glance around. It was amazing, the way it seemed as if the yellowblood's hive had hardly been fazed. If his own hive had been in the city, it probably would have been pretty similar, and their similar, messy habits made Zeffer grin. "Yeah. I need help down there. It'll be better this way, we can watch each other's backs." He added in trying to reassure the little bee. Poor thing looked pretty pathetic, but it would get over its wrecked flowers sooner or later, right?

"I'm comin'!!" Zeffer laughed as he found himself being tugged along, hurrying to keep up with his friend. The look Aprife shot made his heart quicken with wild-spirited excitement, the prospect of destruction, treasure, and adventure all too alluring. But as they burst out of the front doors he paused, remembering his second target, his other companion.

"It's why I've been staying away for a while...no idea why they haven't put them in the Fronds yet. Hey Aprife, would you mind making a little detour? I have another buddy livin' in the city and I wanna make sure she's okay, too." He confessed, looking a little stone-faced for a moment as he hoped Aprife would be accepting of the request. The yellowblood had come out of the incident fairly well, but he didn't know about Sarcel. If she wasn't dead, she probably wasn't going to be too happy.

"Her hive's off this way. It won't take long, I promise." He insisted, hopping over a patch of messed up street and gesturing for Aprife to follow.

A different landdweller responded before the first one, to Dictys' surprise (although in the background, ey noticed with satisfaction the crash of the shovel falling to the ground - excellent, ey'd gotten their attention, at least!) - one with a strange teal blob on their chest, an atrocious scarf on their head, and uncomfortably familiar horns. Dictys could swear ey'd seen them before. They didn't have much in the way of input, though, or at least - strangely unobservant input. Ey was sitting back (or at least leaning comfortably against eir booth's table - ey wasn't actually tall enough to sit down and still see over its edge), and ey certainly wasn't treading around!

Despite that, it was early in the morning and ey found it within emself to be, well, patient. For this little while, anyway. A captain had to be - landdwellers were so inefficient. Ey turned eir sharp teeth on the landdweller in question. "In that case, I'd say you owe your own share to the cause. As an upstanding citizen of Alternia, I'm sure you have plenty of beetles to spare for the good of trollkind! And then you can direct yourself over there and get yourself a shift on supply delivery!" Ey set eir collection box down and placed a tiny grub-sized palm out in front of emself, pleased. "Nice rack, by the way," ey added, seemingly unaware of the other implications of this latest comment.

And then, at last, the orangeblood saw fit to address em. A little slow on the uptake, were they? Ey narrowed eir eyes at the orangeblood as ey spoke. Not volunteering to help or donate? Practically treasonous! "Oh, I'm sure everyone has change jangling around somewhere," ey grinned, flipping eir free hand elegantly at the other troll. "And I'm sure you've got enough juice in you to do something! We have analysis teams running about the city that don't require much beyond the ability to hold a clipboard and fill out forms!" And run around a lot, but ey wasn't about to mention that. Ey brushed eir bangs out of eir face in a manner ey thought most cool and placed that free hand on eir hip (and, unfortunately for em, out of Abrila's sight).

"Say, what did you say your names were?"

Mommydaddy did a flip in their tank (which had been placed conveniently below the booth - they didn't really like moonlight!), and then settled in the coral planted there. Dictys winked conspiratorially over at them and turned eir attention back to the teenagers ey was dealing with. Lowbloods - they'd find their place soon enough.

Alifax glanced back at the worker, raised his eyebrows, and turned back to the tealblood, glancing briefly back down at his (bare but for bandages, whoops - he'd forgotten that the debris would dig into his soles and hadn't thought to dig up his very hole-y pair of trainers, or at least some socks) feet and then back at the kid. "Um, that's doable! I'm not, ah, actually gonna be at a station, though," he explained as he turned away. "And, ah, I'm not sure the relief workers want, um, younger, um, trolls out doing, er, damage assessment with us - but maybe you could try, um, to gather supplies as I, ah, work?"

He glanced down at his arm and realized he could be allocating resources much better by taking the subversive flyers out from under his arm and pressing them between a few pages of the cheap notepad he'd been assigned - he did so, but definitely not in a way that would have allowed Aandes to see them this time, considering he didn't unfold them. What were the areas they had to look over? He glanced over the example on the front page as he walked, and then he remembered the kid. "Will that be all right, um, highbl - um, what's your name?" He'd caught himself!

To be honest, he wasn't sure that he'd have done that even a few perigees ago. But it was getting more and more ridiculous to call kids who were practically wrigglers by an honorific, and as far as he'd seen they tended to be far less strict about the hemospectrum when they were young. He hoped this one was the same way.

"Yes, and some are even less fortunate than you," Miache said in a stiff tone. He pressed by Abrila (Careful not to touch her since......was that dirt? ECH!!) and dropped a few beetles in the box. His eyes wandered the sea blood in appreciation, excellent fashion, and the gold looked well polished. There was something to be said about sea dwellers that took good care of their appearance, although....he could appreciate anyone that took proper care of their hygiene. On the other hand....that orangeblood.....her clothing looked torn and her hair looked like it hadn't been combed in months. He edged away unconsciously.

Miache stared into the box, somewhat annoyed, it seemed like some were rather stingy with their donations....hmph! What a pathetic pittance, rebuilding the city and helping fellow trolls SHOULD be a concern to everyone! Well, Miache had assumed that would be the case anyway, he'd already planned to help set up supply packages, there would be many hands needed there to pack up building materials and the like....but his help appeared to be needed at the moment. "Are you SURE you can't be bothered to help troubled trolls? A little help can go a long way," he said to the orangeblood. Truth be told, Miache was less than intimidating at only a fraction of Abrila's height, but that certainly didn't seem to stop him sassing his elders. His eyes wandered to the tealblood after a moment. He knew his next target to pester.

[hi chaos i'm not quoting you because you probably just got 2 notifs haha - but this tag is for you too i guess OUO]

Another donor! Dictys grinned at them - oh, this one was stylish, too. It was so rare to see landdwellers with good taste (or the ability to afford clothing that fit Dictys' tastes, but Dictys seemed blissfully unaware of the misfortunes attached to poverty). "Lowblood, it's excellent to see that you, at least, care about New Hemisect City, and the very hub of Alternian civilization! If you'll pen your name in here I can ensure that you can get an exemption for the beetles you just donated - and of course you can feel free to find something to do."

Dictys would admit that ey was quite interested in the blueblood's name for eir own sake, too; good second-in-commands were in short supply! "I'm Dictys Glauci," ey added. "I'd shake fins but, well..." Ey shook eir hand, quite impatiently, at the tealblood (who ey really hadn't given a chance to respond yet, but trolls should be running over themselves to donate to the P.P.S.' cause!).

It felt great to be outside, and there was a tingling in his fingertips as he gripped the strap of the bag that had never left his shoulder since trying to get out here earlier. Aprife wasn't exactly sure if his friend had anything specific in mind for taking advantage of this situation, but if he did, it was bound to be good. Besides, once they got deeper into the downed part of the city, he was sure many opportunities would present themselves. It was rather obvious just from the excitement he put off that he was also looking forward to it. What real luck it had been, his bro deciding to check up on him like this.

The yellowblood looked at Zeffer again, his expression flopping from dark amusement to questioning before quickly flipping to assurance at the unusual look the other wore. Yeah, the blueblood's sudden visit had gotten him out of the hive and that was certainly great, but he had to admit it was strangely stirring to know he worried enough to come at all. Aprife wasn't very good at making friends. His own fault, really. So it was different, but pretty nice, to have someone who cared.

"Of course, man. Lead the way." He took off after as soon as Zeffer started him in the right direction.

Unable to stop herself for a million beetles, Regina's eyes swung down to her rather flat chest as the rack remark floated up from the mouth of the younger troll. Pulling them back up and forcing herself to dismiss that comment without further interrogation, the queen breezily waved aside the not-so-subtle attempts at recruiting made by Dictys.

"Already done my duity to the crown mate, got my receipt for money and services donated to the cause right here."

The paper had been nabbed from the freshly printed stacks as she had fled the palace in preparation for this such event, and was waved vaguely in front of the other seadwellers face for a moment before shoved back into the folds of her clothes. Turning as the other trolls began to gather at the booth, she let the question of her name slide by into the chatter of the others.

Immediately, she recognized the orangeblood. The girl had entered into the impromptu fighting tournament, hadn't she? And a little blueblood. Idly flicking through her mental index of faces and drawing a blank, she only surfaced back in the conversation as the small seadweller gave her a pointed look. Grinning disarmingly back, she fluttered her eyelashes in an almost imbecilic expression of good-natured friendlyness.

"Oh! Sorry, are we doing names? I'm Reiagn, Reiagn uh - Miarna. Charrrrmed to meetcha."

Not too happy, indeed.

Then again, Sarcel scarcely seemed happy these days. If she avoided going outside already, the whole introduction of the surveillance system only amplified it; she stayed inside more than ever, not that her lusus really cared so much. If anything, it was better her charge stay in where it was clean rather than trample around in the city filth. However, it became problematic when Sarcel even refused to leave for necessities; what a pathetic girl!

Her saving grace was her invisibility. Even with the surveillance looming at every corner, the blueblood could go unseen and unknown. It was sort of ironic how she hated the power at first, since she'd come to rely on it so much lately; useful, it was useful. She had to give the mutation some credit there.

As such she didn't know whether to count the earthquake as a blessing or a curse. The cameras were down, but chaos ran rampant. The initial quake left her hivestem intact, but her actual hive neared the top of the complex. Of course, she didn't trust herself to live so high up with the threat of aftershocks and quickly fled, much to her lusus' dismay, where ever chinchillamom was now. It didn't matter, all that mattered was she was out on the city, spying the plumes of smoke and general scuffle of trolls and ruined buildings alike.

At least she was out of her hive. It would be a lie to say she wasn't shaken up by the event; who wouldn't of been? Some trolls seemed to be doing something proactive, but her first thought was to run and collect herself before she tried to help anyone else. She felt a thought in the back of her mind insisting that she cave into her invisibility and flee, but part of her felt that would be cowardly and she was not wanting to be labeled a coward. She got that enough; her feet quickly wandered the shadows without her approval.

Apparently there was a god; while she had no prayers, she eventually spied a familiar pair of horns amiss the wreckage; although she wondered why someone like him would be be in a place like this, especially now of all times.

Still, in her state, it's enough to send her doing the one thing she's blessedly good at: running. She started towards who she hoped to be her familiar friend, ultimately feeling a wash of relief when it proves to be true. She wasn't entirely sure who the other troll was (to which she felt a p***k of anxiety), but forced herself to approach anyways. Really the last thing she wanted is to be alone in her panicked state, and any friend of Zeffer's was bound to be someone she could trust, right?

"Z-Zeffer?" she called out in a half-yell half-'please notice me I'm right here' to the blueblood as she hurried towards him and his companion, hoping she didn't look as awful and nervous as she felt, "I-I uh, I mean," she pauses, suddenly unsure of herself as she stops her quick run halfway, almost taking a step back even as she finally nears the two, eyes on Aprife, wide and apprehensive, "I-I mean..."

She didn't really finish, too fidgety and anxious and full of nervous energy from the night to properly introduce herself to the other troll. What did introductions matter at a time like this, anyway? It didn't help that she wasn't really thinking straight. All the blueblood wondered was what were they doing here; At the very least, she was here with at least one troll she could definitely trust, and that was good enough for her.

Nervit nodded, acknowledging the subtle threat, then approached the lusus, careful not to keep eye contact for too long as that could provoke aggression to territorial lusii. As she approached she looked at the delicate membrane of the wing. The tear wasn't large but it was right at the flap - in this case she thought stitches would work better than glue as the constant flexing meant it would be more likely to flake off. But the issue was the thickness of a membrane - even scaled up with the lusus's size, it was still an insect wing and therefore thin and delicate. Like gauze. So if she reinforced the stitching sites with flexible glue...yes, that might work! It was kind of weird how much sewing clothes also applied to sewing up people. Except that you had to sterilise stuff first with people.

She opened up her bag, bringing out a thin needle, a pot of sopor, a bottle of ethanol that she'd previously used to get stains from fabric, a lighter, some nylon thread and a bottle of skin glue she'd taken from the troll she'd helped stitch up - a gift and payment all in one. She ran the needle through the flame until it was white hot, then dipped it in the ethanol - where she also dipped her fingertips with a slight wince as it got into a cut on the top. Very gently she took the lusus's wing and spread the sopor on it.

"Tell me when you can't feel this, okay."

She pressed gently, and then with increasing pressure until the all-clear was given. Then she would wipe off the residual sopor and dab the glue onto either side of the tear.

"Please don't move momentarily, ma'amsirother."

She wasn't sure whether the lusus was male or female. I mean generally the gender of a lusus tended to match up with their troll - but it was never an exact thing, and there were always exceptions to the rule, or defiers of the binary entirely and well - especially with such a high highblood (he was straddling the purple-blue divide and she hadn't had enough time to examine the shade of his symbol to be certain - but either way he topped the landdwelling charts) - it was safer to be safe than sorry. Especially if the sorry meant you ended up injured or worse. (There was always worse. Not that she was actually sure what worse ~was~ but Pyredad often referred to it ominously, so it obviously existed. )

Just before the glue set, she pulled the needle through, stitching the wound tightly and neatly. She'd threaded the needle whilst waiting for it to become semi-hardened. Then pyredad scuttled to the end of her arm and bit the thread off, leaving a small, neatly-repaired wing for the larger lusus.

"You should remove the stitches when the wound seems healed, don't leave them in longer than a perigree, though. I could give you this pot of sopor as pain relief but you have resources and access to medicine of a better quality than I can provide, so you may be better off using those."

She blinked once, packing her things back in her bag.

"Anything else?"

"Thanks. It's not too far, I don't think." Zeffer reassured as he weaved around several chunks of broken sidewalk and easily leapt over cracks in the pavement. He couldn't tell from where they were if Sarcel's building had fallen, but he was almost certain that her hivestem, like Aprifes, had been far enough away from where the most serious damage had happened. As before, his expression remained serious and determined, though his eyes darted about their surroundings. They certainly weren't alone; several times they would find themselves shoving through small crowds, or wandering past lost-looking souls who had been rendered homeless or displaced by the chaos. No one really tried to stop them, and Zeffer all but ignored the trolls who were putting an effort in to gather supplies.

They were only about a block away when he heard the familiar voice ring out through th air. He perked up, and only took a moment to look around before his eyes found her, a grin coming to his face once more, and relief flooding his mind. "Sarcel! Over here!" He called back, and hurried towards her in turn, boots thudding against the cracked sidewalk. Without thinking, he reached out to touch her shoulder, perhaps in some sort of strange attempt to reassure the both of them that she was indeed there, in one piece, alive. His excitement was returning in full force, and he bounced back to reach towards Aprife. "Are you alright? We were just on our way to see you. This is Aprife...he's a good friend of mine." He was quick to start the introductions, instantly able to see how nervous she looked as she stepped back. He hadn't really thought ahead this far. They would get along, right? He hoped they would. For this night, at the very least.

"Aprife, this is Sarcel. She's awesome...probably the fastest runner I know. And you're both alive! ******** yes!" He bantered excitedly, looking between his two companions and feeling genuinely happy that they were both alright, more or less. He glanced back to behold the city, his mind returning to all the opportunities at hand, before looking back between his friends, wondering if the little blueblood would be up for such shenanigans...

(ogawd......I'm getting the mental image of Miache on a pirate ship demanding everyone to constantly clean......worst first mate ever....)

"Of course,"
Miache agreed, either ignoring or not caring about being deemed a lowblood, "the fiscal concerns, alone, that would come from having such a major city completely lost would be a drain on other cities." He stepped over to the paper to scrawl out his own name, Miache Gahiji, in an attractive cursive. He did thank his lucky stars the highblood wasn't for shaking. Hands could be incredibly filthy....though....Dictys DID look adequately clean, plus Miache did have his hand sanitizer.....he supposed shaking the highblood's hand wouldn't be the worst fate.

As he glanced at trolls passing the table he frowned. "Hm....perhaps I could find something here to help with..." he said, none too pleased to see so many unwilling to help save the city. Perhaps he could also find himself another box so trolls could donate whatever they could spare to trolls that needed a little help. If he left it on the table next to the seadweller, Miache could shake down anyone that passed by...and would others really be able to say they could donate neither money nor supplies to those hurt by the disaster?

He nodded at the tealblood. That was acceptable. Reiagn had done her part to help out, though....more probably couldn't hurt. He could appreciate that she had done her part to help without too much harassing needed. "I'm Miache Gahiji. A pleasure I'm sure," he said, maintaining a certain level of manners he wouldn't bother to offer a rustblood. Although....the tealblood wasn't dressed nearly as fetchingly as the seadweller, as thus Dictys commanded his attention far more than the other. Plus.....Dictys just looked so prim and proper, Miache would even venture to guess that ey was clean enough to match his high standards.
