"I will make sure to make it one of my best works." He resolved, a glint of inspiration in his eyes. "I can promise you he won't be disappointed. And neither will you." Riven stuck close to him, though began to hang back a little as she realized he was drawing her out more. After a few more stamps, she finally raced over to his side, peeking around the two men shyly, sticking to the older buck's shadow. Her ears were folded back slightly, eyes darting more in curiosity than fear.

Gabriel smirked slightly. What a terrifying little beast in the dark...
"Hello, little one." He watched then as Morai turned, craning his neck over the doe and giving her a little hug. "Morai, nous partons."
Morai showed his teeth and flapped his lips. He didn't want to go! Look, he'd made a friend! He defiantly bent lower, which only made his Chosen arch a brow.
"It seems as if my Guardian is somewhat attached..." he offered, and then addressed Morai again, "You can't stay. I need some way to get back."
The Guardian flapped his lips again.

Riven sticks close to Morai, and finds the hug comforting, nuzzling up against her new friend. She's still slightly wary of Gabriel, but knowing now that he's Morai's chosen, she's not nearly as standoffish as earlier. She bows her head a little to the man in response, a simple hello, and looks to her own chosen curiously. "It's interesting to see her actually out for once...And making a friend at that." He commented, smiling softly, his features calming. "And I don't think she would mind if he stayed, but he should probably go with you. She'll be waiting here for you though, don't worry." He spoke softly to Morai, trying to comfort him.

"Unfortunately, that hulking beast is my steed back to Palisade," Gabriel said, nodding to his insolent Guardian who had nothing but a contemptuous expression in response. The man huffed and gave it right back.
"Morai, we will be returning in less than a week's time. We must leave this man to his work, and you will see your friend again shortly. Come."
Finally, Morai gave the little doe a sad look and a snort of apology before clopping his way over to Gabriel as a loyal steed must. His Chosen nodded and scratched him between the eyes. "So. In five days' time, I will return. Perhaps we can make a little play-date for the young lovers..."
Morai stamped his feet and threw his head in denial, and Gabriel just patted his neck. Had he been joking? There was no smile to show.
"Good day, Sir."

"Good day to you as well." Nicholas replies, watching slightly amused at Morai's antics, though is obviously warmed by the friendship between the two. As the two leave, Riven is quick to seek the rare comfort of her chosen, taking time to be loved and adored, before returning to her duties, sleeping for the night to come. And indeed, within 5 days, the carpenter has a sword to rival any other, delicate carvings within the hilt and blade of the wooden sword, polished and varnished to match his own work. He's even taken a trip to the sundry store and purchased a leather strap to wrap around the grip, making it more comfortable to hold for its new owner. Riven has been most instrumental in the past days as well, feeding many of the destitute behind her chosen's back. The starving shall not hunger for several days, this work having been done in advance for Morai and Gabriel's arrival. She is ready to see her friend again, and this time eagerly waits by Nicholas' side, having blossomed out a bit more.

It had taken more than a day to return to Palisade, and two more to put together a proper team for this errand. The fourth day had been spent outdoors before the team left in the evening. It was early afternoon when they arrived outside of the carpenter's shop; four men, two good, strong horses, their master and his Guardian. The workers stayed outside, chatting amongst themselves in various accents and leaning against the wooden cart while the horses patiently waited. It was Gabriel who entered, Morai just behind.
"Hello again, Nicholas," he greeted, offering a hand for the man to shake. "I do hope that I've given you enough time to complete the project? Some days I wish that I had a rook to send messages in a more direct manner..."
His trailing off was likely due to the fact that Morai had entered the shop, quaked for a moment, and then burst forth and dance in a tight circle, throwing his head in glee at seeing his newest friend. He had so detested leaving her! The buck approached Riven and hugged her again, his neck and head tucked into her shoulder. Gabriel gave a half-smile at the pair and shook his head.

Nicholas brightened up considerably, as did Riven, when both guardian and chosen entered the shop once more. He took the handshake just firmly enough, grinning when he looked up at his patron. "Yes! More than enough time, in fact. Though I'll check it over once more to be sure, and I'd like your eyes on it as well." He nodded, turning his attention to Morai for a second. Riven was larger than she had been previously, though still held her petite frame. It seemed like the doe had finally grown fully, or close to it at least. She returned the hug happily, tail wiggling in absolute joy as she closed her eyes. Her friend was back! At last at last!

"Of course," Gabriel nodded, not quite impressed that the man had a perfect handshake, but at least not despondent at him having had a limp wrist. He stood aside politely as Nicholas turned to his buck, who seemed to have no interest in the carpenter.
Morai's attention was on Riven only, and he gave a happy, tone-deaf bleat. With some affectionate nibbles to his friend's neck, the buck finally released her and stamped a hoof gently. What should they do?! He liked going for deer tea himself, but he didn't really know the area. Maybe Riven would know where to go!
"He'll be fine," Gabriel reassured the man then, "Shall we?"

Riven too was overjoyed, though still kept to her more delicate demeanor. Perhaps perhaps they should go somewhere! Somewhere less noisy, somewhere quiet and maybe in fresh air, somewhere with sweet clover and chirping sparrows. Did that sound nice? Yes she thought it did. With a few nudges to Morai's form, she directed him to the door, glancing back at the two men before guiding him out. Nicholas smiled again, nodding as he picked up, delicately, the sword, and began to look it over, checking his own work. Good, good....Not good. While it was only the slightest spot, a frown appeared on his face as he lifted it up to look upon. "Ah....I seem to have made a mistake." He frowned, then showed it to Gabriel. "The varnish didn't take properly in that spot. I'll redo it, don't worry, but it might be a while...But since I'll have to strip it anyway, is there anything you'd like changed?"

Gabriel turned as the deer began to leave and for a moment considered telling them to wait. Who knew what Morai would get in to unsupervised? Then again he seemed especially joyous and content with the little doe...
Ah, why not let them be?
"Be back by sundown, hm?" he offered instead. Morai gave a nod that was more like a wild head-bob and followed his new friend out. She may not know what deer tea was, but certainly she'd know some good places to go!
Now, the man turned back to the carpenter and looked the sword over.
"Ah... no, I don't think so. It looks perfect to me. Edgar will very much enjoy it, thank you," he nodded, "It appears that our Guardians have gone, however. Perhaps you wouldn't mind if I stayed by to watch the process?"

The young doe was thrilled, though the mood did not translate to her form well. Instead she gave a nod, guiding her friend out behind her, into the open air of the streets. Quickly, as to not be noticed, she went to the back of the house, shy of the many people upon the streets, preferring to be behind the scenes, out of sight. She hoped Morai wouldn't mind, at least they wouldn't be in town long before heading out. Perhaps he knew a good spot? "It's not good enough, let me at least fix it." There was a fire in his eye, a true passion for his work. "If this area gets hit, the varnish will be likely to chip, or other things will happen. It won't take too long." Of course, the passage of time differed from person to person...Half a day, which would likely force Gabriel to spend the night, wasn't long to the carpenter. He did, to his credit, get right to work, pulling out the necessary items to strip it down to the wood again. "I don't mind at all if you stay and watch! Sometimes people stop by to do it anyway, so it's not a bother at all. Go ahead and sit down wherever you like. Everything here is steady." Grasshopper Pie ((Aww yeeee I'm backkkk.))

Morai was a bit surprised that they had not turned to the street or at least to the fields to escape. Why were they just going out back? That was no fun! You were supposed to go exploring for deer tea! Was his new friend really that shy? He tossed his head in the opposite direction, toward the streets but also a particularly delectable-looking copse of shrubbery that he had spotted on their way in. Hiding wasn't something you did unless you were having a nervous breakdown!
Meanwhile, Gabriel chose a nearby bench that did not seem particularly ornate and sat with his ankles crossed to watch the man work. Complete silence may have unnerved or bored someone less prone to oddity, but the man was glad to just watch and enjoy. It took a good five minutes before blood began to seep from beneath the remaining varnish, pool at the tip of the fake sword and begin to drip to the ground.
Really, it looked nothing like his own knife. Why in the world would his mind choose to alter a child's toy, of all things? Oh... oh, there it went. Now it looked remarkably more like the knife that had done the deed, and the friendly carpenter didn't look just right any more. Feeling as if his head was rolling on ball bearings, he leaned on one hand, his eyes widened and pupils dilated.
"Interesting..."

Riven had always preferred to keep to the shadows, though her friend trying to get her to go down into the streets was simply unbearable! She folded her ears back, backing up and making it clear she wasn't ever going to go that way...Even for a delicious piece of shrub! There were much more things out of the town, where people didn't often go, where they could have peace and quiet, and run out in the meadows! Didn't he want that instead? She didn't want to have to deal with people. Nicholas was a quick worker, he didn't want to take any longer than he had to with stripping it down. Indeed, sanding did prove to be rather useful, which meant he could restain the wood to be a better color, if Gabriel so desired. Luckily for his friend, Nicholas didn't have time to turn around and look, engrossed in perfection. "Ah, is it? I was afraid I'd bore you with this. Did you want it a darker or lighter color too? I'll have to stain it again, to give it some color. What would your friend like?"

Morai's ears went back as well. The doe was really that against going out in public? People were so interesting, though! In fact, he couldn't think of a single time when he had been without at least one human being. He didn't want his new friend to be so unhappy, though, so he simply shook his head and snorted. The nudge that came next was in the opposite direction. Go ahead, Riven. He'd follow your lead!
Gabriel put his face in both hands and let forth a fairy unnerving laugh. He felt slick warmth on his hands, and the sudden tinny scent that bombarded his senses spoke of blood. His shirt was wet, he could feel it. Down by his waist, he was bleeding or bloody...
With an amused sigh, he lowered his hands and closed his eyes tightly for a moment.
"I apologize. I am temporarily experiencing a hallucination. If I could only have a moment..."
He opened his eyes and looked first at the wooden sword, which was once again a toy, and then his hands which were still bloody.
"I'm sorry, this is going to sound very strange, but am I correct in assuming that my hands are not covered in blood?" He offered them, palms-up, toward the carpenter.

Riven was relieved that she was being allowed to go her way, especially by such a good friend! She'd have to make it up to him, how, she wasn't sure yet, but she certainly wasn't going to forget this. Her knowledge of the back paths of Oldcastle were vast, and moving with the shadows, it wasn't long before the two emerged to a wide field of sweet grasses and clovers emerged before them. She bumped Morai kindly with her nose. See? She knows exactly where she was going! Nicholas didn't really have the time to see what Gabriel was laughing at, focusing instead at getting his work done. He did glance back at him once or twice, curious to find what was so amusing, though was quick to get back to his work. Soon enough the explanation came, and while it didn't bother the carpenter too much, he did worry. "Are the fumes getting to you, or is it something else?" He asked, wondering if he really should open another window, or help the man step out to get some fresh air. There were times where he himself needed to do so, getting woozy or sick to his stomach. "You're correct." Nicholas breathed, carefully looking over his palms. "Do you need some fresh air or something to drink? Would that help with it?"
