Vollerei liked Jerarda' grin and laughed, it made the imposing alkidike look prettier. Silently bounding after Jerarda through the tree tops, Vollerei kept an eye on her surroundings and the other on Jerarda. It was much easier keeping pace with her than with her Mother, who always tried to push Vollerei and see if she could lose her. So nice to just be able to follow without having to struggle for once.
Vollerie was also interested in the spear, her Mothers both used bows, and had been training her in them mostly. But this spear certainly looked interesting, and perhaps would sit her better than the bows did. She watched how Jerarda moved with it and tried to memorize it so that she could try it on her own. He sister had once laughed at her for jumping around the treetops with a mock bow and a mock sword to see if she could hunt with them.. apparently Vollerei had looked ridiculous... But that that thought was lost as Vollerei heard the sounds of a river and her mind turned to food.
Eager to get hunting and then eating, Vollerei was a little irked when Jerarda suddenly stopped, but when she caught sight of the larger critter below, she understood.
And once again, her only thought was Is it edible? So she poked Jerarda in the side to get her attention and pointed at the beast then mimed eating in hopes that the other would understand her intent.

Jerarda had to smirk, after all only this alkidike would inquire of a monstrous reptilian creature was edible. Sure she supposed you could cook and eat the creature...after being mauled by its claws and ripped apart by its teeth. So instead of saying yes she half a so-so gesture with her hand and then went to put a keep quiet signal to her lips. Her antenna twitched as it sensed the vibrations in the air, turning her head she noticed that..the radaku its brilliant dark blue hide sparkling in the bits of sun was watching the pair of them.
Bringing its nose to the air it sniffed before it curled its lips up in a menacing looking snarl, though it hardly seemed interested in picking a fight with the two as it circled around the tree before it wondered off looking bored. It would most likely be back...thus they needed to be careful.
"I think it had been planning to hunt in the stream...strange that it was alone.." Jerarda murmured careful to examine the area before she gestured it was safe to come down. If slowly. Foot to branch and then she would wait a moment before pulling herself down, then she would observe the surrounding area before going down to the next branch. After all if there ws one...there were likely other radaku. But with nothing in the immediate area she felt it was safe to come down and fish.
"Alright, perhaps you can show me your skills? You seem quite knowledgeable in the process of gathering food. How would you catch the fish in the stream?"

Vollerei sat back and aited when Jerarda signealed for silence, after giving her a vague gesture in response to her silent question. So, this critter could possibly be eaten... Hmm... Vollerei watched the beast as it circled the base of their tree, her eyes greedily accessing it and looking to see if it had enough meat to make it worth the effort of killing it.. She didn't try, though it did tempt her sorely, mostly cause she could see the danger that it presented. Maybe when she was stronger and had a weapon....
She sighed as it left and turned to face Herarda as she asked a question.
"Fish? To catch one I'd do one of three things; I'd either set a net up downstream to do all the work, get a long stick some twine and bait and wait for fish to bite, or wade out into the stream and catch them with my hands." She jumped down tot he ground and walked to the bank. "I don't have a net so the first and best option is out." She looked over her shoulder at the older woman, "That's what I usually set up when I go ishing with my sister Denker, it givesyou the most amount of food for the least amount of work."
Turning back to the stream she waded out into the current and stood stock still a feww feet from the shore, "I don't have the patience for fishing with bait, takes too long unless you have soemthing else to occupy your hands while you wait for fish to bite. Or you can do..." She pause and tracked a large fish as it meandered towards her. She'd chosen her place well, right in between two submerged rocks that would help channel the fish to her. She waited until it was near and then sliced her hand down towards it's tail. "This!" Grabbing it by the tail, she quickly launched it to the shore at Jerarda. Vollerei smiled to herself, either Jerarda caught it and the food would be safe, or she got hit and would give Vollerei a good laugh. It was a win win situation.

So at least the girl was quite knowledgeable in the field of fishing, and probably gathering of all sorts of foods by the sounds of it. It made her smile if only cause it showed a certain amount of passion if they were so interested in trying all sorts of different foods. The alkidike watched as Vollerei moved into the shallows and like a finely tuned predator already threw a fish to the shore towards her feet. It took only a moment for Jera to pin the flailing fish down and then to retrieve a rock to smash it over the fish's skull. Now limp she could admire its size and looked up to where her sister was standing.
Efficient. The girl liked to get the most amount of food with the least amount of work. One could suppose she was lazy but this was not the case.
"You did that very well." Jera stated as she had no qualms about sitting down and doing the dirty work, after all you didn't want the fish to go bad just because one was could be squeamish about gutting it. Planting her spear beside her she took out a small knife she carried for such occasions. After all why would she sully her blade to gut fish?
"Perhaps together we could get all sorts of fish from the river. I've seen shifters use nets before, but I have my spear..if you are willing to give that a shot." It was rare she would offer someone to use her weapon of choice. Though honestly she wasn't afraid of being unarmed, she could fall back to her own trained skill of unarmed combat and would prefer it.

Vollerei smiled at the compliment of her skills. If there was one thing other than eating that she was good at it was hunting and cooking. Both of which she was proud of. When Jerarda offered the use of her spear, Vollerei was amazed. None of the other sisters back home would even let her touch them, much less use them! A big grin crossed her face. Try out the spear? You bet she would. She grabbed one more fish as it tried to swim by her and then leaped back ashore.
"Never tried using a spear before, but I've seen some of my other sisters fishing with them before.. You sure you don't mind me using it?" She handed the other fish to Jerarda as she asked just to make sure that it was okay.. wouldn't want to offend this new friend of hers... She bet you could catch a lot of fish in less time if you used a spear instead of hands... fun as it was to go grabbing them.

Jerarda was making short work of the fish before her, though even that didn't seem fast enough as another fish came towards the bank and in her general direction. It would be better if she could smoke the fish, preserve it. They would have to be careful though, after all the smell of blood would attract predators so maybe it would be better if she cleaned the fish off closer to the river. Though..there were creatures in the water to worry about as well.
Moving to stand up she calmly moved over to where the second flapping fish was and beat its skull in with the same rock as she had with the other fish. Quick and efficient she moved the fish over to where she had gutted the previous one.
"Of course. I am curious to see how well you do with it." Jerarda encouraged as she well enough knew that when she had first gotten her spear she had been quite terrible at using it. But she had been more stubborn back then, unwilling to shift from what she knew she was good at.
Looking up towards the tree's she picked up her first filleted fish and quickly climbed up into the branches to lay the carcass across a broad limb. After all if they had to flee for some reason from a predator on the ground at least the fish would still be safe. Climbing back she returned to her gutting gesturing or rather encouraging the girl to take the spear and take a crack at it.

OOC: odd= she gets a fish, even= she misses
Vollerei grinned hugely, causing a sharp pain in her cheeks. A go ahead to use the spear! Yes! Maybe this would be a weapon better suited to her than the bow her mothers kept trying to train her in.... Gingerly picking up the weapon, she hefted it a few times to get somewhat comfortable with it before jumping across to a rock int he middle of the stream, near by where she'd been catching fish earlier.
Weighing the spear for another second, she then gripped it near the end of the shaft and stabbed at a shadow just out of her normal reach. When she retracted her arm, the spear had a flopping fish on the end. The stab had been rather crude and inelegant, but effective. Grinning she spun to face Jerarda,
"Look! I got one! I-" She spun a little too much and fell into the river with a splash.
Coming up laughing, she made sure she kept a good grip on the spear. Luckily the fish was still on the tip after her fall.

The alkidike woman looked up sharply as it seemed that Vollerei managed to actually spear a fish on her first try. Beginners luck? Or perhaps she was actually more in-tune with the weapon that she had been at her age. Though her eyes widened as the girl went to turn and ended up floundering in the waters.
Jerarda went to stand up, as if wondering if perhaps the fish she had managed to spear was actually too big to handle, though the woman had by now surfaced and spear and fish were still in hand. Chuckling she went to rinse her blade off quickly before tucking it away and hopping over lightly to where the girl had been standing and offered her a hand up.
"Looks like your enthusiasm got the best of you, but good job on getting the fish on your first try." Jerarda was actually rather proud her sister had done so well using the spear. Blinking...she felt her antenna twitch something was approaching them. Looking over her shoulder she spotted ..it the radaku from before coming out from the brush. Apparently it hadn't gone away as the woman had hoped but instead seemed to be keeping a wary eye on the pair as it approached the gutted fish that was laying on the bank.

Vollereig ave a smaller smile this time as she shook took Jerarda's hand to help her up. When she was standing, she shook herself to get most of the water of, splattering everything in the vicinity with water.
"Thanks. And guess I was too excited. It's the first time I've actually been able to hit anything with a weapon. Well, hit what I was aiming at anyways." Volle grinned wryly in remembrance of her archery practice. She could hit everything but the target apparently....
Vollerei's single working antenna sensed the approach of something, and when she looked over at the bank she saw the radaku approaching HER fish. Growling under her breath, she thrust the spear back to Jerarda and bounded back towards the banks. She didn't know how to use it, so it would be more useful in its rightful owners hands. No way was this walking meal gonna eat her food! If it tried then it was going to be joining the fish on her plate!

Jerarda wasn't quite ready to have the spear thrust back into her hands, she had been formulating a plan to get back to the trees since Radaku weren't known for climbing but it seemed her focus was now going to be making sure Vollerei didn't become a meal for the radaku.
The creature had slowed its approach as it seemed that there was competition for the meal that was on the ground. It could easily go get its own fish from the river but this seemed a lot easier to let the humanoids do all the work. It had hoped it seemed that it wouldn't be caught in its thievery. It stared at the one that had growled at it, then back to the one that had the more concerning weapon in hand.
"Vollerei ...don't..." Jerarda started before pausing, don't what? Protect your hard earned meal? Giving it thought after all she would of done the same thing. Moving forward she lowered her weapon, she didn't want to kill it but if they needed to...

Vollerei jumped on the bank, ignoring Jerada for the moment, food was being threatened! She strode boldly towards the radaku with a snarl on her face. She kept on approaching until she stood by the food, then she quickly squatted to grab her fish. It was hers.. well, hers and Jerarda's... and she was not going to let this beast eat it!
Though she might eat the beast... Vollerei looked at the creature and saw that up close, while it looked dangerous, it had plenty of meat on it... She called back over her shoulder, "You sure you don't think we can eat it? Looks tasty to me!"

Jerarda gave the woman a questioning look before a grin broke across her face. It wasn't a question of wither or not they could eat the creature, surely it was edible it was more how much risk did they want to put themselves for a meal? Taking a few steps forward the woman pointed the tip of her spear towards the halted Radaku.
"You really want to taste it?" Jerarda questioned her sister as the creature before her seemed to tilt its head towards the pair, as if it was listening to something else, its long tail was lashing back and forth betraying it agitation.
Though it no longer seemed that interested in the pair or the fish, it had turned its head looking deep into the forest behind it. Suddenly it bounded forward, leaping or at least attempting to leap over the stream although it didn't quite make it across. A splash and the large creature was now hauling itself out of the water before fleeing into the forest.
This...didn't bode well.
Her antenna twitched sensing the vibrations in the air...the problem was they were coming from the ground. "To the trees! NOW!" Jerarda shouted as she moved forward giving a slight shove to Vollerei in the direction of any higher ground.
(next post I'll roll to see if it hits or she hits it XD If you like the creature is a type of carnivorous tunneling bug. They are about the size of pot belly pig and usually there are 3-4 of them in a herd. They are armored like beetles and weigh about 60lbs they like to surprise their prey by springing up from below)

Vollerei smiled back at Jerarda, "Taste it? Of course! You don't know if it's tasty or not until you try it!" She was going to ask how they were going to attack when the beast in front of them suddenly bolted away.
Vollerei raised an eyebrow, "I know I'm hungry and really want to eat it, but surely that's not enough to cause it to run?"
Her single working antenna suddenly picked up vibrations from beneath them. Perhaps there were dangerous burrowing predators in this jungle... Her body responded to Jerarda's barked command while her mind was still contemplating the strange vibrations. Her mothers had trained her to obey the commands of the eldest leader while out in the wilds. They were leaders for a reason and it was best to obey. So she followed the older woman's command because age meant experience, and experience meant that she probably knew what was going on.
From her new perch in the trees, Vollerei looked down at the ground, alert to any danger. She quickly wrapped the two fish up and stashed them in a bag she always carried around in case she found excess food.
She saw the ground moving in strange trails and bumps, showing that something was there...
"What is it Jerarda?" She whispered.

(rolling a D4 to see if she manages to dodge or gets hit. evens means she dodges and odds means she gets hit second roll is to see how well the beetle thing attacks. 1 is rather poor and hurrah Jera dodges!)
Jerarda felt it right under her feet but was able to nimbly leap out of the way as the creatures head and for legs erupted from the earth. It was chittering, making sounds like annoyance at having missed its prey. Now exposed however the beetle didn't think to go back under the earth to try another surprise attack. After all the surprise was..out, it had its other herd members to still surprise the creature.
The large mandibles in front of its mouth clicked together as it tried to rush the woman, its many legs moving at once to give it a burst of speed you wouldn't expect from a tunneler.
Jerarda wasn't a stupid woman, she had heard of these creatures and had seen them from time to time taking unsuspecting prey from below. Usually a kifna if it landed on the ground for some reason and occasionally they would try for larger prey like Radaku. Typically they were the type to lay in wait...but food must be scarce if it forced them to move in herds under the forest floor.
Bringing her spear down the tip of the blade bounced harmlessly off the creatures armored shell. Alright then, into the tree's she'd go. Moving quickly as she felt more tremors under her feet she leapt into the closest tree and climbed it. Luckily these beetles were not climbers...
"I am not sure what the shifters call them. I call them Burrowers.." Jerarda managed as she took a breather from the higher branches.

"First Radaku's and now Burrowers. So many new critters to eat." Vollerei called back amused. "I should have met you earlier! You bring all sorts of new treats with you." She laughed. Now that she was in a tree she felt safer. Plus the little armored bug, while armored and dangerous on the ground, didn't look like it could climb and catch them. She looked at the odd thing for a bit and turned her head to speak to Jerarda.
"Hmm.. looks like a really tough shell. I don't think I can hurt it with out a weapon. Do we just leave it behind and go elsewhere to fish? Or do things track and stalk people though the earth?" Vollerei swung her legs idly as she contemplated the scene below her. Was it possible for the bug to burrow beneath the tree and cause it to un-root and fall? That seemed unlikely... but maybe...
