Bruin considered we words as an particular stallion was summoned to his mind by them. The riddle certainly reminded him of Abdul. He always tried to learn more, his persuit if knowledge only satisfied for an instant before e was trying to get more. While it seemed the correct answer, he pondered it further, wanting to be absolutely sure. There was no way he wanted to loose this bet. Finally he responded. "The persuit of knowledge." He replied.

Ante nodded. Learning and the pursuit of knowledge were synonyms. She counted it. "Your turn." What riddle would Bruin give her next?

Bruin thought a moment. What else could he make her guess. "Four is our number. Two of coal, one of nobility, one of bones as greedy as the earth. Two of one choice and two of the other. Which am I?" He asked cautiously as he found a way to describe he an his siblings.

One look at Bruin's flaming legs gave her the answer. "Which are you? One of the coal two. And the others are your siblings." She smiled, this time letting Bruin see it. "But I believe you said the topic was favorite things to do. Unless it was supposed to be spending time with your siblings."

Bruin smiled good naturedly and shook his head. "I did not ask which d the siblings I was, for that is obvious by my legs. I asked which of the two I was. Two of us are of one alignment, two of another." He grinned, sure he had got her since she had mis-comprehended his riddle.

A riddle inside a riddle. But it still wasn't a favorite hobby. "... You and the noble one are of the king's horses. The other two are denizens of the Six."

Bruin smiled Bahia green eyes crinkling at the sides as he found her obvious irritation amusing. Her neutral voice held just the hints of feminine annoyance, which he found quite funny, though he wouldn't admit that. "Correct. As a Noble, one of my favorite things to do, is be Around the humans I serve." He explained as he figured she still didn't quite get the hobby out of his riddle.

"I... see. That was a very round-about riddle." Did that mean Ante had lost or won that round? She didn't guess the hobby, but she solved the riddle.

Bruin waited a moment before he responded. "Aren't all riddles round-a-bout in their own ways?" He asked slyly as he turned and began to walk the way he had originally been going. He stopped and turned back to her. "Aren't you coming? I do believe I won the bet." He grinned foolishly.

Ante just sighed, all emotion hidden to the best of her ability--which was very good, actually. Poker-faced, she replied and walked after him. "True, but not in the same way. A riddle's question should match the answer, not refer you to the real answer. Otherwise it becomes a package of multiple riddles and are nearly impossible to solve without the ability to read the creator's mind."

Bruin nodded and stopped, turning to face her. "Okay." He said simply. "By all means, lets continue our battle of wits then. This time, free-reign for the riddles." He said gallantly, a small smile lighting in his face. "As you believe I was being unfair. So go on. Riddle me, Gambling Queen."

She'd won. Even before saying the riddle, she knew she'd won. Checkmate Ante could pick any topic under the sun, anything within any subject to make a riddle of. Bruin would have no clues to what it was besides the words of the riddle itself. But she didn't so much as crack a smile. "Very well." Oh, this was going to be fun. "The guardian of the well-used road. The giver of man's riddle. The victor of many bets, who fell to the riddle's answer. What am I?"

Bruin was quiet. His heart had sank. He was sure to get this wrong. But he had to try. He thought, his brain feeling as if would explode, when suddenly he remembered her mentioning her mother was a gambler. Then he remembered hearing about a mare who had lost a bet and ended up mating with the one she lost to. Could that mare possibly be her mother, and could she possibly be the answer to the riddle? "Well... Would it in any way be the mare Aces Wild?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 19, 2013 1:19 am

Ante couldn't help smirking at the answer. "No, my mother is not the answer. The answer was the sphinx. She was a mythical creature with the head of a woman, the body of a lion, and the wings of an eagle and guarded a well-traveled road. Everyone who wished to pass had to answer her riddle: 'What has four legs in the morning, two legs in the evening, and three at night?' If they answered correctly, they could pass, but if not, she would kill them. Many tried, but failed to answer correctly. Finally, one man came up with the answer, using a riddle of his own to answer it. 'The answer is man, who walks on four legs as an infant, two legs as an adult, and three as an elder.' And thus she was defeated by her riddle's answer--man." It was one of her better riddles. She was glad she got to use it.

Bruin bowed, stretching his leg out as he out himself low to the frog d before standing up. He had been defeated. It was hardto believe. But he had never heard of a sphinx before and in no way was he in any position to call her a liar. "I have been defeated, it seems. What will you have of me, Lady Ante?" He asked regally as he eyed her evenly.
