Nina snorted sharply, a small growl rising. "Oh, you haven't seen me emotional...."

"How should I know what you go around doing?" she shot back. "If you said you did spit in bars, I really wouldn't be all that surprised!" Where else would the feline tangle with such an unsavory crew? She took a deep breath then, bracing herself as the other female pulled something out of the pack. A book? Her jaw twitched as the cattaur explained, and Nina chuffed sharply. "Oh really? And what is it you are so confident that I want in the palm of my hand?"

Harper tossed up her hands. "You are absolutely impossible! I'm offering you the chance at the greatest discovery these isles have ever seen, and all you can do is nag. Is that what you are? A nag? I bet your mate just LOVES coming home to hear that." If she even had one.

She dropped the book back into her bag, and straightened up with a haughty head tilt. "The thing is, I have no idea what you want and apparently you don't either. What I DO know is that I'm leaving. So, you can stand here or go home; either way, they're going to find you and you won't even be able to give them what they want. So," she mocked bowed, careful to go as far down as dramatically possible. "Thank you for creating a diversion for me."

With that, Harper straightened and started back off down the road.

"The chance at what? You still haven't told me what the hell is going on!" She didn't have a mate.... So, she shot back, "Well, if I do have one, they're better off than whoever comes home to you."

She crossed her arms, fuming silently now. What was she going to do...? Her father and her friend would freak out when she didn't return, but she couldn't lead those killers to them either. Snarling, she stalked after the feline and reached out to give the woman's arm a sharp punch. "To hell with you! Let's get to that mountain, get your precious little trinket, and let me get back home. Save my life sometime, and I'll consider us even." She was still quite livid, and wasn't anywhere near kidding. It was going to take a lot in her mind for this strange woman to make up for getting her into this mess.

Harper's tail snapped behind her like a cobra on the hunt. She'd never been this angry before; not even when Herschel did something really stupid. That b***h should have been grateful! Not only did Harper offer her a ticket to fame and glory, but she'd taken time out of her quest to even talk to her. That whiny, insignificant- "Hey!" Harper cupped her now sore arm, half afraid it would be her attackers again, and actually disappointed to find the wolf.

"I'd rather let you freeze." Harper spat. "You've already wasted enough of my time. The sooner we get there, the sooner we can leave."

By now the walk was tortourous; not because of any bandit attacks, for certainly the elderly couple they had passed were anything but threatening, but it was the tension that had fur on end. Harper tried to busy herself by keeping her face as close to the book as possibly, plotting where each individual shrub was, until a thought struck her. They wouldn't make it by foot; it would take years.

Her shifty gaze darted to Nina. She'd been to town, so surely she'd have some kind of currency. "Hey." Harper held out her hand expectantly. "Give me all of your gold."

Nina snorted loudly. "I'm wasting your time?!" The gall of this feline! Who did she think she was?

Her arms were crossed tight over her chest as she walked along, feeling the tension between them just as much as Harper was. Her whole day was interrupted, and who knew when she would be home again! Her father and friend would worry theirselves into a tizzy! ...They would take it out of her hide when she got back... but she couldn't risk leading those men to her home.

Her ears perked right up as the hand went toward her, taking a step away instinctively from the reaching hand. "My gold?" She barked a sharp laugh. "I don't know about you, but I'm not exactly rolling in gold. I only brought enough coin to purchase items for repairing the cellar!" She reached into her small pack and felt the little coin purse. "...what do you want it for anyway. Headed on a big quest and didn't bring any gold with you?"

Harper made a flexed her fingers, willing the coin to find its way into her hand. Nina's laugh did nothing to sooth her nerves, and had her already tense form on edge. "...is there gold in the cellar?" Harper rolled her eyes and straightened, lowering her book back into the satchel.

"I've never had gold." She stated it simply. What they needed, they took, which wasn't as much as a family of six probably should have had. Her parents were pretty free-spirited like that. "I'll give you an option; give me what you have so we can pay a cart to take us to the base, or we'll walk."

Nina snorted again. "Maybe if you add up the worth of everything down there, there might be a gold or two worth. ..Maybe." Her ears twitched as she got her answer, nose flaring slightly with irritation. Didn't even have a way to get there.. "Honestly! Did you even take two seconds to bother putting together a plan a little more detailed than 'go to mountain, get rich?'"

She grit her teeth as she dropped her hand into her pack, testing the weight of her coin. "Fine. I'll pay for the cart, but like hell I'm just going to give all my coin to you. How can I trust you won't just turn tail and run? And before you bother trying to answer that; no, I can't just trust you. Just.. let's get on with this."

"Why did I have to? All we have to do is get past bandits, go through a bog, and get past the Cobra that guards it, and we're fine." Harper rolled her eyes on a scoff of annoyance. Jeeeezzzz, how much easier could it get? Adventurers in her father's stories did this kind of thing all the time! If they could, why couldn't she?

Harper skirted past the wolf as fast as possible, making for a stretch of road she knew to be ahead. That is, if Rees' information hadn't been just a tale itself. "I never asked you to trust me. I told you to follow me." She held her her finger pointedly. "There's a difference."

The further the continued down the path, the closer a group of centaurs became. A small resting post could be scene, and what it lacked in dwellings it made up for in carts. Nearly every centaur there was hooked to a cart of some sort, some gabbing it up, others biting at the bit.

Like the wind itself, a small, elderly satyr came jostling over from the crowd with a scroll in his hand and a sack attached to his waist. "'Ello, misses. Lookin' fer passage?"

"Oh, is that all?!" Rather than mouth of more and get herself more upset, Nina grit her teeth and marched on. She was stuck with this woman after all. She had to see it through. ..What would the feline have done for passage if they hadn't run into each other?

Looking to the satyr, she sighed heavily and stepped forward, attempting a casual smile. "Yes. We need something to get us as close to the base of Raflas' Mountain as possible. What do you have available?"
PostPosted: Fri Apr 12, 2013 8:33 pm

"Raflas' Mountain?!" He squeaked, effectively ending most, if not all, conversation around them. "That's no place for ye, missy."

Harper stepped up, with a charming smile and subtle sway. She was as awkward flirting and tempting as any child, but what came out next gathered his attention. "Would you keep this poor, poor woman from her mate? He's been on an expedition for months at the Mountain, and her children are starving!" Harper grabbed the lapels of his vest, and lifted him from the ground. "For goodness sake, man!"

The satyr gulped and pried her hands from his vest. He looked at Nina, and took her hand in his. "Sorry, miss, I didn'a..." The male was sniffling. "I'll get'cha there, like lightnin' I will. Keep yer gold." Twisting on his hooves, he called over his shoulder, and a team of four young stallions trotted over, an open wagon being pulled behind them. "Ye heard 'em! Get'em to that mountain!"

Her lips pressed tightly, wondering what to say now, but the feline seemed to have it under control. ..Sort of.

As the lie slipped from Harper's lips, a stunned silence came over Nina. Playing on another's sympathies? What lengths would they have to go to in order to reach the mountain? When the satyr looked at her, she dropped her face and slapped a hand up over her eyes. Part disbelief that the satyr believed the cattaur, part to hide her eyes to keep from displaying the truth, and part to maybe express despair at the thought that she might not be able to get the the mountain to find her, er, precious husband.

She managed a weak but grateful smile, which she didn't really have to fake too much. "Oh, thank you, sir. Thank you, so much! I don't know what I'd have done if..." she gasped softly and turned toward the arriving cart, hiding her 'emotions' like a modest and proper young lady would. Then, she peeked down at herself. ...Did she look like she was starving?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 12, 2013 9:19 pm

Harper placed a hand on top of her chest and heaved a dramatically relieved sigh. "Bless you, sir." When his back was turned, she turned a smug grin to Nina, even going so far as to stick out her tongue. The more gold she saved, the more she would have at the end! Brilliant! "See? You can act after all," She murmured, motioning to Nina's face palming, as ignorant to the real purpose as a kitten.

The cattaur thanked the satyr before getting a good look at the team. They were certainly studly enough, and well groomed, right down to their flanks..."Come now, Broomhilda, you wouldn't want to keep him waiting." Harper slung herself onto the cart, and with a s**t eating grin, held a hand out to Nina.

"I feel dirty," she grumbled under her breath, managing to pretend that she hadn't seen the tongue stuck out at her. How childish... "Never said I couldn't," she replied more clearly, hurrying over to climb into the cart.

She looked at the outstretched hand, but paused. ...Broomhilda? "Thank you... Dorcas." She had to seem the tired fair maiden... she took the feline's hand and pulled herself up into the cart.

One of the centaurs snickered, and his team mate elbowed his ribs.

As soon as Harper was sure that Nina wouldn't fall on her a**, she picked a spot near the rear. "Dorcas, huh?" She quipped in a low tone. "Can't even take an insult to that. Sounds like something my parents would have named me." Hadn't they thought of it at some point? Seemed familiar enough.

The stallions started their trip with a little trot, that soon turned into a hearty gallop. Not that Harper minded. When they kicked their hooves to the dirt, she gave a loud, whooping yell and tossed her fist into the air.

Nina settled herself across from her new companion, a little smirk rising. "Does it now?" She cast her eyes back home. Names were an interesting thing...

She twitched her ears as Harper celebrated. Speaking of names! She didn't even know that of who she was now going to be traveling with! Making sure the centaurs were looking forward, their hooves making enough noise to cover a conversation, she leaned forward and grabbed the other female's shoulder, yanking her close. "By the way, my name... it's Nina."
