"Hm. Yes, that." Truth be told, Andrus was not quite sure what to make of the Queen's apparent plans for the Wardens, or for the hedge witches like himself. He had been happier living with his quiet secret, speaking of it to few or none and generally pretending that it didn't exist. His was a skill entirely unsuited for war of any sort and much better equipped for charming his way through society. Somehow, Andrus doubted that being able to talk his way in or out of anything would come in handy against a pack of wolves.

And now, everything seemed so out in the open, so unsecret that it made him uneasy. Thoughts of potential repercussions nagged at him. He had come close to refusing the invitation to the masque, to putting fancies of war and Wardens to the side and doing his best to continue as he always had. But this was the Queen's ball, after all, and the noble in him had been unable to stay away.

"I suppose it could be a good thing that they are to be acknowledged," he said, though he didn't sound altogether convinced.

"It is the Guardians and their Chosen who will be on the forefront of this, of course," he said. "They will be the soldiers, after all." If he had any opinion on the matter, Kit did not allow it to show in his voice. Jack, he knew, would be ecstatic at the chance to fight the wolves. Kit very much suspected that his younger brother would have a great deal of fun at the expense of the formerly civilian Wardens, whom he would doubtless be training. Of course, his brother never did anything by halves. The Wardens would be whipped into shape in no time at all.

"It is more difficult to say what Her Majesty has planned for Hedge Witches. There are healers, of course, but the rest?" He shook his head, uncertain. Would they be watched, or welcomed? Kit had people digging to discover more about hedge witches and their role in the world, but the going was slow.

The thought made an amused smile flit across Andrus' face. "Can you imagine my brother in a war, with that pretty doe of his? I do worry sometimes. I don't doubt Jack will fare well, but... Ah, well, you know Jordun." As much entertainment as it brought him to tease his brother for his physical failures, the idea of Jordun in battle was still a sobering one. Andrus had looked after Jordun all his life and made sure that no real harm befell his younger sibling, but this was one thing that he couldn't protect his brother from.

"He'll have to learn, I suppose. And fast." As did they all. Kit was quite right, after all. To what end could the Queen attempt to use her hedge witches against the wolves, and would she? Andrus wasn't sure how he fit into the grand scheme of things.

"It's an uncertainty I do not welcome," he agreed.

"Well, they're bound to need runners," he offered. "And scouts. I doubt every Warden will be on the front. Can't trust rooks with everything." Actually, now that he thought about it... "Do you suppose that some of the hedge witches will be given supplementary roles? Their familiars will probably come in handy."

It was a reasonable theory. He would not be surprised if some hedge witches were placed in such roles. Yet at the same time, it did not feel quite right. Or at least, it was not complete. So many questions. Too many questions. They only seemed to multiply. Kit yearned for the day when they were answered.

"I suppose she'll find something for us all to do," Andrus replied. Even if they weren't all runners of scouts. The fact that the invitation to this masque had gone out to all Chosen and hedge witches seemed to indicate that the Queen was trying to gather as many supporters within their ranks as possible. Which meant she would likely try to keep as many of them by her side as she could. Andrus could understand why. No doubt as many bodies as she had on her side, the better.

"Imagine you running errands, my lady," he said to Feather with a smirk. The grimalkin turned to fix him with a stare and blink slowly at him, as if she thought the very idea preposterous. Her, running errands? The nerve! Andrus chuckled. "You're right, how could I," he agreed. Feather was as likely to grudgingly accept an errand as she was to turning up her tail and disappearing. She did have a knack for that sort of thing.

At that wildly unlikely notion, Kit could only laugh. "I find myself doubting that anyone could convince your lady to do any task so menial as running errands." Well, one situation sprang unbidden to mind, but he much preferred not to think of his friend's life being in jeopardy. Surely nothing short of a situation so dire as that would have Feather fetching people.

"But enough. Come. Help me find some entertainment, else I shall seek some out on my own." As enjoyable as it was to relax with a glass of wine and an old friend, Kit was having great difficulty in remaining idle at this particular event. There was something in the air. A sense of anticipation...
