Serinuth replied shyly, flaring her wings out at her rider's prompting and forward and gave a startled sound as Poecileth greeted her as well. she said, to both her siblings, folding her wings close. Ooh, dear. The green chirred low, shifting. She hadn't meant to forget to greet her brother, really she hadn't.

She whimpered at Pavoth greeting. Serinuth gave a whining keen before disappearing into her rider's lap as well as she could. Too many things and she didn't know and
Saain stopped listening to V'tyai as Serinuth suddenly crawled into her lap. Shussh, it alright love. She pushed down the bond, wrapping the anxious green in warmth and love and her arms. It be alright. She stroked Serinuth back, making soft warm humming noises to ease Serinuth panic. They would introduce themselves later.
__________
They had shown up just as V'tyai started to speak and lingered near the back. J'in kept standing, introductions properly called for it and it would just be a bother to sit down and then stand back up. His shorter curls had been pulled back from his face with a simple tie. He had chosen the simplest and darkest clothing he had in preparation and was currently debating if slaughtering and dressing lambs was anything like wherries.

Irath squirmed at his side, wanting to greet his siblings but remaining quiet for the moment. It wasn't liable to last long at all.

At all. "My name is J'in and this is Irath." Go ahead and introduce yourself. J'in motioned to the grey, remaining quiet as Irath pranced a few steps ahead.

He said and happily pranced off to get a normal non yellow basket.

"I'm a scribe so I'm usually found in the archives or records. I like tea," he said willing to leave it at there.

"And my hair is naturally this shade of red," J'in added dryly at his dragon's prompting. I am not saying anything else, he said firmly, sitting down.

Poecileth gave a dragon laugh.
Oh Pavoth. She sent him some affection. No, she couldn't play tag now. Perhaps later.

Oh dear. Perhaps she had pushed Serinuth too far.
she sent to Serinuth along with a wave of love, reassurance, and a mental nuzzle.

Ah! Lasoth was present!
she crooned, walking over to give her an affectionate head nudge. Oh she was beautiful. Such a sparkling coat. Poecileth could only look at her adoringly. She was her special sister, unique among uniqueness. If she played favorites, Lasoth would be her favorite, she guessed.
Yet, were her eyes upset.
Concern and support were sent to her sister.

Ah! Malta's attention snapped to V'tyai.
Class was starting!
she marveled at the name,

Poecileth looked at her for a moment.
She turned back to Lasoth, she commented kindly. She wanted her Lasoth close at hand.
She gave her sister a last nuzzle before trotting over to Malta and sitting down, looking at V'tyai calmly.

Okay. Oiling. Malta could do oiling. Butchering, though... She wasn't sure. Actually, no. She didn't think she could...

She relayed that information immediately to Obanuth she started politely. She had never really talked to such a big dragon before and he had an important job. She did want to get this out of the way before she forgot and got wrapped up in... everything. Her clutchmates and hers, mainly. She said quietly to the blue, giving him a polite mental bow.
She was a bit nervous, but she turned a pleased face to Malta.

a mental nuzzle. she said jovially.

Introductions.
Malta froze. Poecileth looked at her patiently. This was one of those times that she would like to speak for her, but it was rude to speak to other bonded and also... it would be good for hers to do so herself.
Poecileth repeated, She did worry about her sister, But her worries need not be shared.
she indicated the baskets.

Malta shrunk a little in her seat, waiting nervously. She was glad Poecileth was there.

Ja'kki

They'd arrived just in time to hear V'tyai start his speech. The girl was back in her guard leathers, black and blue leathers cared for as well as any dragon's hide. At her side freshly oiled (as the owner of a firelizard and weyrborn candidate, Ja'kki was well familiar with that aspect of dragon health) Atheth paced, inspecting the other's who'd arrived on time and adjusting private opinions of a few. Handsome Boy rested on his perch in Ja'kki's shoulder, eyeing the other weyrlings gathered, the prisoners in yellow in particular.

Ja'kki had a grin that was far too cheery for the events of yesterday. It was the same s**t-eatting grin she'd had since tackling C'ross. The sight of her name, her's specifically, on V'tyai's letter had brought it right back when she'd read it. And again every time after. Well, they didn't really know her reputation did they? She'd learned a little discipline in her short time as a guard, and more importantly to her, better subduing techniques (not that she'd displayed them yesterday in the least). You couldn't change who you were though. If she was pushed, she pushed back harder. That was just how it went.

Atheth snorted. Hers would take a lot of work, but she knew she'd chosen right. In that rough little form was something she knew she could work with and make brilliant in time.

The moment there was a pause in introductions Ja'kki piped up. "Jaykkial, now Ja'kki. Guard Recruit and Green Weyrling. This is Atheth." She gestured to the hatchling who at the signal hopped to the baskets and carefully lifted one with her jaws. She inhaled deeply as she returned to her rider's side, trying to see what might be in side. She could pick out a few different scents, but nothing her young mind could name. Her eyelids narrowed in irritation and the urge to rip it open and find out immediately

Luka

Luka and Lophorinth walked up about the same time. Well, danced in Loph's case. His whole body undulated as he bounced and side stepped back and forth. It was only thanks to him and his assurances that Luka was the most perfect creature to walk the whole planet that they were there on time. Her new wardrobe, small as it was at the moment, had given the woman untold delight as she tried to decide what and how to wear what she had to the first lesson. Sure she'd met many of her classmates the previous night, but she still felt this was an important occasion that deserved as much attention as she could put into her appearance. It was her first day in turns that she could even remotely consider herself a 'free woman'. It was the sweetest feeling.

Loph took charge of introducing him as his rider inspected their fellows with an appraising eye. Projected to everyone gathered, human and dragon alike, Loph bugled and swayed as he spoke. I go by Lophorinth! His tail thumped on the ground a couple times, stiring up a bit of dust behind him. And this gorgeous beauty at my side is Luka! He flared his huge wings and thrust his chest out. Luka just smiled at her classmates, eyes hooded.

Still displaying proudly, Loph hopped his way to the baskets, returning after a moment with a yellow one. I think I like this color Lukamine. I like it a lot.

Luka's lips pursed as she chuckled at the blue. Hopefully by the time he was grown he'd forget. Much like red she was pretty sure she'd never want to wear this color again once they were graduated.

What was this now? Ogbanuth opened one eye from the distance, phasing out Dan and his grumpy snarls from his mind. The blue had more important things to do, such as listen to the small green Poe talk at him. What a polite little thing. What darling wording. The round blue yawned, aiming his rancid breath right at the brown near to him (sorry, Marti) before he reached back to the young hatching.

It is quite alright, little sister. He murmured mentally. As long as she bathes on a regular basis, my human will not be put off in the slightest. You're doing just as the Weyrlingmaster requested you to do, quite bravely, and he will appreciate it. A lesson with a butcher shall be set up for you and Yours.

His eyes closed. His work there was done.

---

V'tyai pulled out a small book of his own from seemingly nowhere. Charcoal followed. He flipped it open and, with a few dashes, scribbled something out on it.

"Right," the Weyrlingmaster shook his head and looked to the ones that spoke already. "Four down, ten million to go. Look, the rest of you--" His gaze swept over the others, not concentrating on more than one at a time. "I'm not doing this because I enjoy hearing you talk. I'm not here because I like to hear myself talk. This little teamwork circle is happening because the people here, right now, are for now the only ones you can trust. While I am quite aware there was a little shindig the other night with some of you, which is fine, I am suspecting not everyone took part. Which is, again, just fine.

"Over the course of the next turn, you will have to depend on one another. You will wear the same knots and take the same classes. Your dragons were hatched from the same clutch of dead gold and disappeared blue. Every one of you knows the dangers that lie out there. If you don't want to speak up now, go right ahead, but be aware you will have to participate. I may end up painting numbers on all of the dragons to keep track otherwise. I don't mind. Marti loves crafts." The Weyrlingmaster paused. "Also, I may eat your candy."

(OOC: If your character doesn't want to speak up/you can't post, that is a-okay, they will NOT get in trouble. He won't eat all their candied fruits. neutral Promise.)

"I am more than prepared to speak Weyrlingmaster. I simply prefer to think before I act." Hiemal's voice remained as cool and matter of fact as ever as he made this announcement and then fell quiet again, sweeping the rest of the class with a thoughtful gaze.

"My name is Hiemal. My dragon is Halith. I am a technician by trade, a rather skilled one." Hiemal had heard of modesty but thought it rather a waste of time; he knew he was good so why deny it? "Until around a turn ago I lived in Monaco Bay Hold, where I was arrested for forgery. The Watch did not take a sympathetic view of how I funded progress; had I been left to my own devices I would probably have finished my Master Piece by now. But I digress." Another short pause. "I approve of logic, order, and intelligence; the importance of those is in reverse order." Hiemal smiled a little bit; he had been taking a stab at making a joke, or something vaguely like a joke in any case.

"At the moment I do not trust any of you, and I imagine most if not all of you likewise distrust me. I imagine also that there will be most mistrust between those who are wearing yellow and those who are not," he continued, features smoothing out to neutrality once more. "It is natural for this to be the case, given many of you were our jailers. I do believe however that as the Weyrlingmaster said we must learn to work together. Perhaps the circumstances of our Impressions have already given us some common ground, along with the innate bonds shared by many of our dragons. In many ways I believe we represent a new dawn, if you will excuse the turn of phrase. Criminals given leave to Impress is a change, and the new colours amongst us is a greater change. I believe that this can be a change for the better, and one we should not allow to be taken away by those who value the status quo over progress and improvement. Thank you."

With his rather long speech made Hiemal moved forward to take a yellow basket before rejoining his dragon.

Meera and Pavoth

ohFaranth, Pavoth was frolicking again. More importantly, he was distressing his poor sister and wasn't even aware of it. Oh? Serinuth seemed distressed. Clearly, that meant Pavoth needed to be more friendly and pushy. Serinuth, come play! he wheedled.

“Pavoth, stop harassing her,” Meera hissed, physically hauling the baby dragon to one side. “She doesn't want to play right now. Sorry,” she apologized to Serinuth and her bonded. Mostly, she tried to pretend that her heart totally didn't melt at the sight of the little green trying to hide.

All together now: Awwwwwwww...

But why? Playing is fun!

“Others have their own ideas of what's fun...” oh, thank Faranth that Pavoth wasn't as stubborn as Meera was. The little blue rolled the idea around in his head for a bit before agreeing.

Then we can play another game?

“Not now, class is starting...” Meera stood at attention and listened to the teachers. Well, presumably teachers. Sort of teachers? They were just as new to this whole thing as the weyrlings were, technically. Pavoth passed the time by watching his fellow hatchlings, still trying to determine who would be good friends. Lophorinth had some potential. He was funny!

If he enjoyed hearing talking, he would have stayed with his wherhandler, Meera thought to herself. At least, she thought she thought to herself. Pavoth's snickers indicated that her thoughts weren't totally private, though. The little Blue's eyes swirled with delight at the snark. He loved snark!

Meera stepped forward. “I'm Meera and this is Pavoth. I was a guard. I signed up for Candidacy because I think it will let me guard more efficiently.”

Pavoth chittered happily.

“I may have miscalculated somewhere.”

But I didn't, Pavoth retorted as he fetched a basket.

Leevi and Lasoth

Oh! There was Poe! It was undoubtedly unfair for Lasoth to think that she favored her green sister over her siblings-----even now, the opal felt a bit guilty about it----but there was no denying how her hearts lifted at the sight and sound of Poecileth. She returned the affectionate headbutt with a croon. Hello, Poe! No, nothing's wrong. I'm just... she hesitated a bit. She really didn't want to burden anyone else with her issues but this was Poe. She could talk to her darling Green sister about anything.

I'm a bit nervous, she confided. It was one thing to interact with her siblings. It was quite another to try and present herself and Hers in front of adult dragons. Oggie and Dan were both intimidating.

Leevi gave Malta and Poe a quick smile, fast as lightning. He would have liked to talk, but class was starting. Lasoth and Leevi both quieted down quickly to listen. Oh Faranth, it was their turn to speak. Well, not really turns. V'tyai made it clear that no one had to speak.

But, if they didn't, their candy would be forfeit.

The mindhealer very bashfully spoke up. “Um. I'm Leevi and this is Lasoth. I'm a journeyman mindhealer. I came here specifically to study.” He didn't intend to Impress.

But it happened anyway, because Lasoth had known he was Hers. The strangely-shaped dragon trotted up to get a basket quickly and retreated just as fast. She tried to make herself look confident. Really, she did. But, honestly, she retreated from the intimidating Ogbaunth and Dan so fast that she nearly tripped over herself.

Serinuth peeped softly, slowly crawling out of Saain's laps, eyes whirling a concern yellow mixed with green. She gave a tiny sound, being coaxed out of her hiding space to sit a bit hunkered down by Saain's side. She muttered and stepped from one foot to a other nervouse. Serinuth wasn't sure if she wanted to play, she didn't want to hurt her brother but she didn't want to disappoint him... and it could be fun?

Breathe lovely, we are going to introduce ourselves and I need you to get the basket.
Saain stood, looking out at them. "My name is Saain and my bonded is green Serinuth." She smiled at the little green, fidgeting near her feet. "Before my incarnation I was a journeyman healer. I also have a three year old son." Go on love. "I think that was anything of importance."

She question torn between the two remaining baskets. The little green warbled nosing the one closest to her.

No, it doesn't. That one would be perfect.

Oh, so the matter of butchering would be resolved. Good. And she hadn't misstepped. Poecileth nuzzled Malta with her head.
See?
Everything was fine.
Though what she was doing was watching Lasoth. But her bestfriendlittlesisterlove seemed to be doing fine. She made sure that Lasoth knew it with a package of reassurance and confidence that, honestly, Poecileth hoped would leak over to Lasoth's as well. Poecileth had plenty of reassurance to spare.
Ah, but..
Her voice was gentle,
Malta nodded.
"O... okay..." She stood up shakily, a sweating hand on Poecileth as she stood up. Ohfaranth she was up in front of the class. It only got worse when she faced them. Ohfaranthalltheeyes... Dragon and human... She felt her insides shiver and clench.

"I-I.." she squeaked
Poecileth nuzzled her.
She moved closer, offering Malta both mental and physical support, Well, maybe not too much. And (hopefully) not out loud.
"I'm M-malta and I'm a healer apprentice and I guess a weyrling now and... uh... uh..." she froze again, feeling her face grow very warm. Ohshardshshewasgettingallblotchy. In front of the class. IN FRONT OF THE CLASS.
But Poe was there. Poe wanted her to do this and so... so she would. Poe was there. She would be all right. She could feel her dragon's confidence holding her up like a pillar.
"And... um..." What else... "This is Poecileth and... I love her and..." Oh Faranth what else...
"Its... Its nice to meet you... To meet you all."
She sat down abruptly, fidgeting and feeling like she had just made an a** of herself.
Poecileth said forcefully but lovingly, She crooned, giving Malta a head nudge before going to take her basket in as dignified a manner as a young day-old green could.
She tried to radiate an air of confidence and reliableness. She wanted to make sure her siblings were reminded that she was here for them, and that they could count on her as a quiet pillar of strength. She wasn't sure if her walk worked, in fact she felt a bit awkward, but maybe that was fine.
She placed the basket by Malta, who looked at it but didn't open it. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to yet.

Ah, this was the moment that Canoake lived for and enjoyed. Everyone went through the hoops and introductions, including those with the odd colored dragons such as herself.

I am not odd. I am beautiful. Haemath replied.

"That you are," she whispered. She stood, every inch of her pulled up and proud. Haemath stood by herself, also as tall and straight as he could be. Well, well... Wasn't V'tyai looking miserable today? Personally, Canoake found it delightful but thought better about making any comments. Yet. Eyes sweeping the room, was that girl blushing (honestly!), and made a slight bow. A smile close to a smirk played on her face. "I am Canoake, journeyman Weaver and one of the workers in the clothing store rooms. I help keep supplies in order and design clothing whenever I can."

And then, Haemath stood up and practically strutted, making sure to stay in front of his lady. And I am Haemath. I am all pink, all male and all Canoake's.

She giggled a little. "Not much more needs to be explained, does there?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:34 pm

Lin and Brantath were both early for the morning's lesson. After all, what was the alternative? Sitting around in her cell all day? This was a dozen times more exciting than anything she had the chance to do as a prisoner! (Actually, it was better than anything she'd done her whole life, but that was just a little sad) Even if it was just feeding and bathing stuff. Or.. that's what she thought it would be.

"Talk about myself?" Lin groaned. Feeling her displeasure, Brantath lifted his head at her side to see what was the matter. <I don't like this, Brantath. I don't really like talking about myself.> She explained.
<What? Why would you not want to talk about yourself? You're so interesting!> he insisted, but Lin was not persuaded. <Just tell them like you're talking to me.> he advised her, encouragingly. <Or better yet, say it to me first. I'll tell you how to add pizazz>.

Lin considered that for a moment. But even with Brantath's help spicing it up, she couldn't think of a single thing she could say about herself that didn't relate to her criminal history. Finally, she shook her head hopelessly. <I don't know what to say Brantath! I don't have any family..> Lin complained, but Brantath thought they had already started the game, so he interrupted to correct her;
<You're an independent woman!>
<..I've never had a real job..> Lin continued.
<You're a jack of all trades!>
<I was only at the Weavercraft Hall for a year.>
<You mastered weaving in only a year!>
<I'm not saying, Brantath. That's a flat out lie!> she said, although she did at least start to smile again.

Laughing, Lin shook her head. <Nevermind. Give me a minute to think.>

She turned her attention back to the others. She listened, hearing how the rest of them did it. She would wait.. but not until the very end, not if she could help it. Somewhere in the middle, but towards the back. That's where she liked to be! Finally, she made up her mind and whispered to Brantath. "I'll go after another prisoner goes."

So after Canoake sat down, Lin stood up. "I'm Lin, and this is-"
<Brantath!> said the brown, sitting up with a loud.. noise. She wasn't sure how to call it. Something between a chirp and a bark, like the voice of a prepubescent boy as it was breaking. Lin fought back a laugh and lost her train of thought. Ah, great. Now I've forgotten what I was going to say.

While Lin tried to remember what they were supposed to talk about, Brantath reached out to his siblings (and their teachers) to fill the silence. Utterly unaware (or else ignoring) his supposedly amusing greeting, Brantath continued unperturbed. Brantath finished, a little more eager than Lin to get his fellow weyrlings to like him.

Nothing in her voice was particularly friendly, or exuded an 'I want to get to know you' vibe. It was clipped and mildly defensive, but at least she was trying. "Let's see. The only job I ever had was as a pickpocket, but I guess I'm not supposed to say that.." she started. She folded her arms, thinking. "Um.. I was a Weaver apprentice for a short time and I have a brown firelizard. I used to have a gold, but.. um, yeah." More stuff she probably shouldn't talk about. So with that, Lin sat down.

She stared at the floor for a minute, hoping attention would soon turn away from her, before she realized something was missing. She looked up at Brantath. "The bucket?" she asked.
Oblivious to his own obliviousness, Brantath jumped to his feet excitedly. <Oh, I'll get it!> he said eagerly, racing over to the front like a little brown speedster. He examined the contents of all the buckest and even though they were identical, this one was clearly the best one. Grabbing it by the teeth, he carried it proudly back to Lin. <Look, Lin! Look what I've brought you. It matches your colour.> he said, lowering his head to be scratched by his doting rider.

V'tyai continued to mark down on his own little journal. He looked up when people spoke (or in Canoake's case: giggled), nodded to each in turn. Dragons spoke, came up, fetched the baskets when their riders took over. He slipped to a new page and set the journal down on the ground, gesturing to their baskets.

"I understand this whole thing isn't exactly normal. Thank you, Hiemal, for pointing that out. My first weyrling class, there were thirty five of us and we learned how to pull the intestines out of a wherries a**. It was quite illuminating and I'm not backtracking through those days. This first weyrling class, we are talking about ourselves and our dragons. That is what's important. I don't hate any of you." V'tyai looked over them slowly, gaze contemplative. "Much."

The bluerider shrugged. He stole another sip of his drink, contemplating his next words. "We all know that should the weyrlings in yellow mess up, it is my job to cripple the dragons. For those of you with new colors... I am not sure if the same rule applies to you right now." He grimaced and shook his head. "I will try to find out. It shouldn't. In the meantime, should a member of the Watch approach you in regards to anything ongoing here at Warden's Weyr, speak your mind but remember your words are being documented. You are dragonriders. Act accordingly.

"And with that!" V'tyai flipped open his journal again, eyebrows arched. "I wrote out a list titled 'How To Not Make Your Dragon Dead'. If you have an idea on how to not kill your dragon, speak now. We'll discuss it. The reason this is our first lesson is because a few of you seem to forget in the heat of the moment that certain things can hurt or kill your bondmate at this part in their life. So."

He tapped his charcoal on the bit of paper. "Go. --And if your answer is 'don't piss off M'onk', I want examples."

Poecileth had to whirl happily at Brantath. There was her brown brother.
And then the topic turned, for once, to something that was out of the young responsible green's league.
<... Malta?> Poecileth wasnt sure what to think. Or what to do.

Malta thought for a moment.
The very thought that Poecileth was mortal... had mortality... could DIE... shocked and shook Malta to her core.
NO. Nonononono not happening.
Poecileth was a bit more rational. But even she was drawing a blank.
Malta mused, worried.
Poe nudged her physically and mentally, Poecileth cocked her head, she said, surprised and pleased.

Malta raised her hand.
"M-mal...Undereating?" she said, squeaking a bit at the end as nervousness choked her. She looked around, picking up the basket and hugging it close.
Poecileth commented. Even she knew that one.

A weapon Poecileth thought, but didn't share, instead focusing on bolstering Malta.

He had gone ahead and investigated the basket, curious to see what was inside, especially after V'tai had mentioned taking away their candy. He didn't have any candy as far as he knew, which meant there had to be some inside. There was too, along with the other necessaties they would need, knots, , , and a journal, which he promptly pulled out.

This seemed as good of a use for it as any, writing down the things that might be important, especially with the question that he just asked. About what they should do not to make their dragons dead. It was a good thing to know.

He left the first couple of pages blank, and then wrote down the lesson number, and the title of the talk. He would put in Vociferoth's stats on the first page, how big he was and maybe even a picture. Then he'd write down all of his clutchmates and their colors on the next page. It'd be nice to keep everything written down, especially since Voci was one of the very first greys and the knowledge of how he grew might be helpful in the future.

He had to think for a moment, about what his answer to the question might be. There were all sorts of things that they probably should avoid, but did he have a proper answer?

Tell him that you have to feed a hatchling.

If the rest of them can't figure that out, they deserve to have their dragons die. He responded, resisting the urge to laugh.

"Sir," he said after a moment. "Should we be trying to avoid stronger emotions? Like anger and lust?" He wasn't quite sure if that was one of the answers that V'tyai was looking for, but at least it was an answer. And if it wasn't, well, at least then he'd know that he didn't have to watch himself quite as closely.

It was hard to say which Ja'kki was more excited for, the candy, or her new knots. Rider knots. She gripped them firmly in one hand as the other popped the delicious candies into her mouth, one after the other. Her basket resided open on the ground while Atheth poked around the rest of the contents, uninterested in the candies after a quick sniff.

As soon as V'tyai asked for suggestions on how not to kill her dragon Ja'kki's face burst into a wide, if a little sticky, grin. Her hand shot in the air.

Ja'kki don't.

Ja'kki folded her hands down behind her back and bounced up on her toes. "Oo! Don't tackle men with crossbows!" Of course after the fact she had realized what sort of danger she'd put herself and her new lifemate in. How she could have just thrown away everything she'd ever wanted the moment she'd got it. Ja'kki was hard to get down though and in the heat of the moment, well she didn't regret her decision in the least. She didn't get shot after all. She might think a little harder next time... or she might not. That's what Atheth was for right?

Dragons had never been a great study of his until he came here but since becoming a candidate he had managed to borrow a couple of texts on them from the records so he knew a few basics. Those simple matters however were not currently what he was interested in.

"Do you think that saying things to the Watch riders who came with the new gold that M'onk would prefer we did not say might," Hiemal made air quotes, "piss M'onk off? Could I also clarify what constitutes," more air quotes, "messing up? I would not wish to act out of turn without intending to. Mmh. And I imagine I am safe in assuming that there would be no appeals process prior to your crippling?"

Halith looked up at her rider, tail twitching back and forward as he raised the matter of crippling. she turned to the blue, head bobbing slightly.
