As much as he wished to go here alone, he knew he needed both a control and a ride. Christof was the only person he trusted with his reign aside from Barth, but Barth was too weak and would hesitate to strike Calder if he got out of hand. He had thought long and hard about going alone, but he knew that if he was going to do this, he needed the best chance he got. Christof would be his security, and Barth was there as support. Not only that, but it was a long ways away and Calder would have had to walk all the way there and then rest a day before trying. Not to mention if....things went wrong..
He shook his head as he swam through the unfamiliar lake, feeling the current change and pull as he drew near. This had been his last effort. His last chance. Mindful of the risk, he made sure not to tell his parents. They had informed him that it would come in time, and they would work something out somehow to get him to his last form, but he knew they weren't that sure. His mother was going to rely on the clan for such a shift, and now that he mucked that up, he had to take responsibilty himself. His parents would kill him for even thinking to go to the Maw and using such a out of date tradition, one that was forced out due to the casualties and injuries to his kind, but Calder wanted to be stronger. He had to be stronger, braver, and more capable with the looming threats that were now facing his friends and loved ones.
That didn't mean he wasn't whining and his heart wasn't racing just to be close to the Legend that was The Maw. He'd only navigated rapids since he was a colt, but this was a far extreme he had no such knowledge about. All he knew was that the torrent and force, the powerful rush of water, somehow called to the very origin of all kelpies and filled them with Fear and the wild nature they all shared. This was it.
Pushing through the water, he turned himself about and let himself be taken by the current.

It was pushing to a hour. The waters had remained in the constant roar of rushing water, swirling into the dark depths that seemed unimaginable for a place that wasn't the ocean itself.
In all this, the water splashing down a black flank wouldn't have been heard. However, rising up further down the bank, a black stallion rose up and screamed, something cold and dark and far from any human horse known.

Barth waited, as he said he would.
As things went, it was one of the easier things he could do for Calder.
He didn't stay standing long, though. Barth folded his long legs with expert and relaxed ease, and kept his attention on the swirling mass of water. He didn't notice the activity further down the bank, until the long and...admittedly exquisite...scream.
Barth didn't ask a question like is that him, because who else was going to come out of the river? Still, it was very...different...from his other form. Large, menacing, powerful. Adult.
Barth didn't stand quite yet.
"...Is he...alright?" he asked Christof.
Calder hadn't specified what rambunctious entailed.

"HUUURR," Christof grunted through his stitched lips, his expression growing concerned at the sudden scream. He had settled on the bank for much of the wait, but that bellowing wail was enough for him to splash into the stream. What was he supposed to do? Was that what Calder had been waiting for? Was it too soon to interrupt?
He glanced back to Barth frantically, as though begging for a command.

Great white eyes smoked as they looked above, black hooves pawing the soft, rich soil as water dripped down a black flank that almost seemed to swirl as if a permanent reflection of water shown upon it.
Pawing in place, Calder kicked off with the youthful vigor and playfulness of his young years and the full force and power of something much older. Fear flowed through ever facet of his being and spilled over, euphoric and swirling in his mind and driving a crazed hunger he never had felt.
Kicking and jumping, he moved up the side to make way to the woods, all but forgetting the two companions he left behind to wait for him. They seemed far less interesting and too immobile to be of any desirable company. The world was his and all of it would drown between his teeth!

"I think we ought to go after him," Barth suggested meekly. "In case he...gets into some kind of trouble."
He should have read more on the subject.
Why hadn't he?
"Do you think he's...fully in control? Of his facilities? I err, couldn't tell if he recognized...?"

There was only one way to find out. Christof's hands balled into fists, and he walked around the edge of the whirlpool, eyeing the horse with a glowering expression. If he had to punch sense into him, so be it.

Calder usually didn't fight Christof, and when he did, he usually just took a hit and whined about it. Even Calder, as he was, knew what a Igor looked like that wanted to test his luck. It was just Christof's misfortune that Calder wanted to play - hard.
Head lowering, he pawed at the ground with his hoof, flaring his nostrils as fog and little flecks of water shot out. Ears back, Calder let another shriek at him to warn him before racing over.
Racing over, Calder went to bite at the first limb he spotted, hungry for some nice flesh to sink his teeth into.

Christof gave a muffled howl as the kelpi clamped down on his arm, swinging another around to punch the attacking creature in the eye.

It hit, but not hard enough. One smoking eye now closed, the large horse tried to sink it's sharp teeth in deeper and started to shake the arm free from the Igor, wanting the prize for itself.

Christof gave another wild yelp of pain as one arm was ripped clear from his body, sending him tumbling as the kelpie shook it. He managed to gather himself up, though, fear prickling through his monsterish left arm, spines and quills and thorns bursting through the skin as he snarled and ran forward, slamming the massive fist against the horse's side, and grabbed one of Calder's legs in the process to try to fling him onto the flailing horse's back.

Letting out a muffled whinny at winning an arm, Calder all but pranced as he shook the arm, biting down hard on it to somehow work to tear it apart. Distracted with his treat, he wasn't aware of the hit that slammed to his side and sent him falling over as he was placed off balance.
On his side, Calder dropped his treat and then started to snap. Then, since Christof seemed to want his legs, the kelpie started to kick out as he worked to get back on his hooves.

With Christof away, Calder rose back onto his legs again and turned about, moving to go for the nearest limb he could sink his teeth into. Igors were like meaty puzzles, and he wanted to break this one apart.

Christof jolted coherent as the teeth sank into him again, and ripped himself free to swing his claws around deep into the kelpie's hide. He had asked for this. Warned them, as best he could. But now the hunchback understood why he was needed for this.

The claws sank deep and Calder released, letting out a pained shriek at being torn into once more. It wasn't just blunt force with Christof these days. The claws gave an edge that would usually only be faced when fighting a monster, and it was only making the kelpie angrier.
Turning his attention to that clawed hand, he went to try and bite into the arm, wanting to tear it off.
