Telaar giggled at the thought of a young Aalun facing down everyone to show her strength and place in the world. It was a strange thought, that the other mare could really be so dangerous if the need arose. It also made the mountain mare more comfortable with being around the couple. More protection within the herd for each other and any future foals that arrived.

"I'm sure she'll always be super strong and protective too! I hear foals make their parents really protective and grumpy to be around if they can't trust the one approaching." She grinned at Arthur and looked back across the river. "Plus even with that much personality...and being pushy...I don't think she intends to hurt any of us. I think she's genuinely good inside. Having someone around for the foals won't be so bad." She finished, giving Arthur another look.

Yue grazed around for a bit, stopping several stops to drink from the river or rip berries and leaves off the nearby bushes to eat. She kept a careful eye on all members of the group, as well as Ashyo once he found his own way across the river, not wanting to see any of them turn on her for any reason. Eventually she began building up sticks and any branches or rocks she could move, into a small covered den and settled for the evening.

"You should rest. It's going to do you or the foals no good if you just sit up all night worrying about nothing." She told her quite bluntly.

Telaar eventually crossed the river again, shook off and gave the small mare's little "hut" a strange look. "You really feel safe like that? I mean...I can put those rocks to better use--" She started, quickly shutting up based on the look she was getting.

"I'll...just..find other rocks." She mumbled and wandered up and down the river bank to find enough to push around the group.

"Oh I know." He sighed. "And I'm sure Aalun won't send her away, as they seem to be getting on. I know Aalun will want to try and do everything herself, she'll need a helping hoof or two...three, possibly four depending. I don't want her over exerting herself is all I'm saying." he huffed and took another bite of grass.

He eventually followed the mountain mare back across the water and raised an eyebrow himself at the little hut, constructed by the little mare. He watched her glare down Telaar and couldn't help but smirk a bit. Although he wasn't sure he wanted Telaar roaming far, but knew the pebbles she was looking for would be put to good use. "Don't go to far." He said to the horned mare, knowing she'd know better than to wander to far anyway but wanting to say something.

He then went over to Aalun and nuzzled her. "You worrying about things?" he asked now a little worried at what Zhang had said to his mate.

Aalun huffed at Zhang as she told her what she already knew herself, was that she needed a rest. Worse was Arthur had over heard and now she could tell he was worried. "I'm fine." she said giving Zhang a look at worrying her mate.

"It's just been a long day for all of us and I'll be fine in the morning. Then we can talk about what to do next." she scuffed a hoof against the ground and dislodged a few pebbles, which she nudged over to where Telaar could find them and put them to good use.

Telaar nodded and smiled at Arthur as she trotted off around the area, pushing large groupings of dirt and pebbles together, adding whatever larger rocks she could find to the area. She paused several times to look back at the couple and the tiny mare, wondering if Aalun was really okay. Yue almost seemed to be stressing her out in a way.

At least that's how she saw it. Perhaps it was just the fact it had been a long day for them all. Sleep would help. The mare nodded and smiled across at them all before going back to finishing her protective set up.

Zhang Yue looked away from the couple to watch the other mare curiously, wondering just what she was thinking laying rocks around. Especially small pebbles.

"If we have to run for any reason, you're just creating a trap for us as well. Those small rocks hurt hooves, you know." She called out, giving her a look. With a snort she turned her attention back to the couple, keeping an eye on Aalun for as long as she was awake.

"But the rocks getting knocked over and stepped on alerts us to trouble..." Telaar half-whined back at the little mare. She began to feel a little bad now. What if they did get attacked and had to run? The rocks would surely impede their progress. It was something she never really thought about before. She frowned and kicked rocks about in silence for a while before trudging back to the others and flopping down behind Arthur and Aalun for the night.

Aalun frowned at Zhang's somewhat harsh words to Telaar. The mountain mare didn't deserve that, she was only doing what made her feel safe, and of the group, Arthur was the only one likely to have problems anyway. Nevermind the swaths of pebbles were never that wide anyway, if he got enough of a start he could always jump them. Then again, she thought with a smirk, they were more likely to stand and fight any threat than run.

She opened her mouth to say as much and perhaps give Zhang a little scolding, but to her surprise Arthur got there first.

Arthur frowned. He didn't like this little mare acting like she was lead of this group. Telaar was their friend, had been with them longer and damn if he was going to let her feel like she was doing something wrong. He cleared his throat to speak and began to delve into a place he was unfamiliar with, diplomacy.

"Listen, Zhang, I know you're just trying to look out for..." he paused, he knew really she was only thinking of Aalun, but if she was going to be part of this group she'd have to learn to accept all of them. "All of us, but Telaar has proven the value of this little trick, and it's for the safety of us all that she does it. A good first warning, no matter what the risk, is better than nothing." He gave her a look of his own, not an angry one but stern and saying that he was in charge here. "Sides the girls don't have a problem with rocks, I could easily jump them if I had too, but more than likely, we'd stand and fight, because that's what we do." he said with a firm nod.

The stout mare huffed back at him and laid her ears back. "Fine, but do not deny that I did not say I told you so." She said, awkwardly moving about within her strange little shelter in order to get comfortable and turn her tail on him for the night. Yue figured that if anyone could find a way to stick with this stubborn stallion, she'd at least try to push his buttons a little bit.

Telaar raised her head slightly, just enough to see over Arthur and Aalun anyway, and smiled a bit. She was thankful to have friends and someone to stand up for her in such a way.

"Thank you...." she mumbled and lowered her head again. "...give her time. I'm sure she'll see and understand and we can all be friends..." She closed her eyes after a short time, leaving her ears pricked towards the rocks. If anything, she could at least drown out the arguing for the night to listen for trouble.

"Noted." Arthur said rolling his eyes. How anyone ever put up with that little mare was beyond him. Then again she didn't seem to be traveling with anyone except the little raccoon, so maybe previous to this no one had put up with her for very long. Well she'd learn to be a part of the group or leave. Either suited him fine. Arthur nodded at Telaar. "You're welcome."

He moved closer to Aalun and mumbled. "Someone needs to put that little battleax in her place."

"Arthur." Aalun said giving him a look. She hated to admit it but there was definitely a line in the sand. Telaar and Arthur on one side and Zhang on the other. And she? Well she was stuck firmly in the middle. "Like Telaar said give her some time. I'm sure she just needs friends. A place to feel at home."

Arthur snorted and then sighed. "I hope you're right. Otherwise this is gonna get real old real fast."

Aalun sighed and shook her head at him. "Just...stay calm. I think she's just testing you. See how dedicated you are to me, to us, to our family." she said with a nod.

"You're probably right..." Arthur said shifting his weight back and forth. "But that doesn't mean I have to like it." and with that he settled himself and closed his eyes.

The little mare yawned and slowly backed out of her little shelter in order to fully stretch and wake up. She glanced towards the entrance to the forest and then up at the treetops before determining it was at least just after sunrise. She then turned her attention on the three laying near by, completely undisturbed.

"Not gonna last long if they sleep like the dead..." Yue murmured to herself before waking her little raccoon companion and knocking down the shelter. She watched for a moment as he ran off to collect berries before walking over to the river for a drink.

Telaar flicked her ears about, groggily raising her head to look towards the source of noise. Her eyes widened at the sight of the crashed down shelter and she clambered to her feet in a panic.

"Ohno! She's been crushed! Or kidnapped! Or...she left!" The mountain mare carried on, utterly convinced something horrible had happened or they had been deceived and ditched. "She did probably run away! Which means she'll give away our position and we're in trouble!"

Telaar continued to stamp around in panic and confusion, oblivious to both practically stepping on Arthur and the look the tiny black and white mare was giving her from the river bank.

Arthur grumbled and looked up at the panicking Telaar and then looked over towards the frowning Zhang. He sighed and got up stretching. "Telaar...she's right there." he said motioning with his head. "And she looks perfectly fine to me." He tossed his head and worked the kinks out of his neck.

Aalun looked up as Arthur moved and got herself up. She looked between the little mare and the mountain mare and sighed. It was really too early for this. She looked over towards the collapsed shelter and went to nose through it. "Although I can see where this might cause some panic." she said moving a stick. "If it can be knocked down so easily that is." she looked over towards Zhang. "Telaar was only concerned about your safety."

Arthur looked between the three mares. Although you could argue that safety had been Telaar's first concern, she had loudly proclaimed that the little mare had run off to inform on them, and since it was obvious Zhang had overheard her it was impossible to take back. Not good. If he was ever going to be able to hold them together he was going to have to fix this now before it escalated.

"Telaar apologize to Zhang." he said sternly. "That was a horrible thing to say to someone whose only concerns up to this point has been Aalun's condition and that of our unborn foals. I can't think that someone who obviously loves young ones that much would be working for someone who doesn't." He gave the mountain mare a look and then waited to see how this turned out.

Yue rolled her eyes at the fluffy mare and returned to drinking from the river. They may consider her smart, good and be all around glad to have her around...but the little mare so far didn't see it the same way. It would take some time before she would declare the furball with horns to be useful and good to have around.

She pricked her ears back to listen to them as they talked about what happened. "It is meant to be broken apart easily. If I must make a quick escape, I can simply jump up and let it collapse around me. Otherwise, knocking it down like that just leaves a pile of sticks and branches." She stated, turning her attention to watch her raccoon all while still listening.

Telaar frowned and looked down at the ground, scuffing her hoof and digging up a mound of grass and dirt. She felt really hot all of a sudden as well as incredibly sheepish that she didn't fully look around their camp to see where the little mare had gotten to.

"Sorry. That was my fault...I panicked and let everything get the best of me..." She mumbled, pressing her ears back against her head.

Arthur let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He hadn't really wanted to embarrass Telaar like that, but she had overreacted. Although Zhang strutting around like a little queen really wasn't helping. Maybe she thrived on making others feel awkward? Whatever it was it was really really really unnecessary.

"And you could try to be a little nicer to everyone." he shot over towards Zhang before going off a little ways to finish waking up and graze.

Aalun sighed and watched her mate walk off. She was glad that his call to order had gone well enough, but the last part made her wince a little but at the same time she felt that it probably had to be done. Zhang was...abrasive and was causing a lot of tension among her family.

She opened her mouth to say something to soften the blow to the little mare but then closed it. No matter how she felt she couldn't keep smoothing things out between Arthur and Zhang. They needed to work things out between them themselves. Right now, she decided, she needed to support her Battlemaster and not pick a side.

Telaar watched and listened quietly as Arthur continued to more or less scold the tiny mare. Once satisfied that things were going to be okay, she wandered off the short distance to start kicking rocks around and clear a decent path should they choose to leave.

Yue raised her head from the water once more to give Arthur a look. She was beginning to wonder how much more she could push his buttons before getting chased off.

Hah. Then they'd be in a world of pain without her help come time for the foals to be born.

She snorted and smiled a bit, feeling a bit more full of herself again for the time being. "I am being nice. I am offering to help your mate with her foals. If you feel like you can handle it alone, I will leave."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 02, 2013 11:31 am

Arthur snorted. "Exactly. You're nice to Aalun, but that's it. Last I checked just because Telaar isn't expecting doesn't mean she doesn't deserve a little respect and just because I'm the big terrible stallion that caused Aalun's condition hardly warrants your disapproval either. We are a family and if you want to be a part of this family you have to learn to at least get along with everyone without making snarky condescending comments every time you open your mouth."

He stamped a hoof chasing off a fly that was buzzing around his leg. "I'm all for playful teasing and whatnot among ourselves, but you're not playful and you're hardly teasing." he paused and took a deep breath. "I'm all for someone wanting to help Aalun when the time comes. You're more than welcome to be that someone, but until that time comes, I think you need to decide whether or not you want to be a member of this family, now and in the future. Otherwise I'm sure there are other lonely mares who would love a helping hoof with their delicate condition. Stay or go, the choice is yours, I'm not going to make it for you." he said and turned away deciding to let the little mare stew on that for the time being.

Yue put her focus solely on Arthur, listening intently to every word he spoke. It was at least sounding like he really was devoted to his mate and keeping their small group together, despite their future circumstances. She smirked and firmly dug her little hooves into the soft ground.

"Convincing enough for me." She stated, closing her eyes and nodding. "You're devoted enough to pass. So...maybe I'll stop harassing you so much." Yue turned her smirk into a smile for him.

"But," the tiny mare turned her attention to Aalun, looking her over once more in the morning light. "you have to be prepared to keep the foal or foals...within sight at all times. Any of you three. Parents are most important, but I will be there as well, of course."

Telaar raised her head again to listen to them. She was slightly shocked the little mare 'calmed' down a bit. At least enough to have a rational conversation by the sounds of it. "But what if something finds it's way to the foals?"

"We handle it when it comes. He's a big battleaxe isn't he?" Yue asked, looking at Arthur again. "Both of them should be well enough prepared to protect their young. I'm sure."

The mountain mare nodded and smiled a bit, glad she was being nice now. "Right. So uhm...are we staying here again today? Or are we going to find somewhere new? Or even a permanent place to call home?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 08, 2013 12:38 pm

Aalun let out a breath and sighed. Well there would at least be peace for now. For how long was anyone's guess but it was here for now, and that had to be good enough.

"Don't you worry about that, Telaar." Aalun said. "We're hardly going to let anyone we don't want around the children. And so help them if they do, they'll have more than a few wounds to look after once it's all over." she said with a fierce smile.

That did bring up another good point though. What were they going to do now? "Arthur?" she asked looking towards the stallion.

Glad that the confrontation with Yue was over, at least for now, Arthur considered what to do. He had been thinking about this the last few days, but he still wasn't sure where he wanted to go to try and settle down. Life on the road was really no good for kids, and if they were serious about making a go of teaching others they needed somewhere secure to do it.

He realized that the eyes of all three mares were on him and that he needed to make a decision. He should have made on already really, this whole leadership thing was still new and slightly uncomfortable for him. He then felt his mouth move and words coming out even though he hadn't consciously made a decision. "There's this place...it's a strip of land below the human home place. It's only a few days away and there are woods, and some flatlands for grazing and the ocean is nearby..." he remembered the place and nodded to himself that it was a decent location. There were some places that could be easily defended. It would be a good place for foals.. "We'll go there." he said with a nod.

"The ocean?" Telaar tilted her head at him curiously. She had heard of many things around the world from the travelers that passed through the mountains. She just never thought she'd see the day where she could see some of these amazing wonders.

"Is that the--"

"Giant puddle of water that stretches as far as the eye can see. It's also dangerous."

Telaar frowned as Yue answered. She wanted desperately to see it, and perhaps Arthur and Aalun would let her wander off to do so, but dangerous? "How...dangerous can it be?"

"Enough to keep the foals away." The little mare looked the other up and down again. "With those horns of yours, you should be able to fight anything off." She snorted and looked at Arthur again.

"Then finish up here and let us be off! The sooner we settle the better!" She called, walking over to Aalun and gently nosing her belly.
