There are a LOT of good hidden JRPG's out there. It's a little ridiculous. emotion_c8 I agree when you say not playing them will make the list longer, and than I miss out on opportunities and they disappear into the world. I'm lucky to have kept some of the gems I did.

My friends and I are banding together and we're going to make a game of our own. If we get good enough at coding I am going to turn my story idea into a game... but only if it's well thought out and we get really good at it. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work, especially this type of stuff, and I am trying to give it 110%.

I hope you'll get to continue to play through college. It's nice when you need to just relax. Who knows though, you may find more interesting things. Well, everything is interesting. Hmm, I donno. smile

Some day I will find these JRPGs. : D Your story idea could make for a beastly game. I have not forgotten about it. Like, I would play it when it came out in the indie games scene and I don't even play indie games. (mostly because my laptop can't play them, gah)
I hope I can play games through college too, I'm pretty attached to a handful of game franchises and would hate to miss them.

Got a copy of Windwaker lent to me. Might see if I can restore the case a bit while I've got it in my possession. Such a game deserves a well kept case.

All of the good JRPG are pretty much on the playstation 3 or PSP/Vita which is a bummer. I would love to show you because I really think you would enjoy them. smile

How are you liking Windwaker?
PostPosted: Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:14 pm

I've debated getting a Vita or PSP Go eventually for the library of old Playstation games and emulators. I'm not too good at keeping track of games I can't stuff in my purse or I'd shoot for the PS3. rofl

Haven't played Windwaker yet, I unexpectedly got it while out and around and I'm still out and around. :[ Trying to decide if I want to play it on the Wii or set up a GameCube in my room.

Ah, cool. Well if you do get a Vita you should pick up Persona 4 first thing! emotion_c8

Windwaker was a really good game. I am surprised they are re-making it and upscaling it for the Wii-U. Ah well. When you get in the mood to play or find time let me know what you think!

Will do! P4 looks like a less maddening Devil Survivor. I dunno how anyone beats that game without having a replacement DS or three on hand. It's so darn frustrating playing a game where you just can't win without spending hours fusing together an elite team of demons that will be good for one map.

I'll start playing Windwaker tonight or tomorrow. Glad I can play it without picking up a Wii U or dropping $40+ on a scratched up disk too. Gonna have to tape an eShop card to the case when I return it.

Interesting. Yeah I didn't know that was how it worked. Interestingly enough in Persona you're still going to be fusing, but it's an often occurrence and makes the game far more interesting. The battle works kind of like Pokemon except it's stat and skill based. W/e Persona your main character has equipped is where all of your stats and abilities come from. Your friends are just given special ones that level with them.

Ever since I got into the Persona 4 I've been really wanting to check out the other Shin Megami Tensei titles. I'm pretty convinced they are geniuses.

This has me increasingly worried that I won't like the Persona games. certainly never see any of my complaints mentioned in reviews like there's a "it's not you, it's me" scenario going on.
In DS you don't have any personas, but you can snag some abilities from demons and they do their thing like Pokemon. They can also have abilities swapped around too. And some have different attack ranges and effect how far you can move per turn.... and I think one or two let you move twice during a turn. This kinda makes me want to play the game again even though I really hated the difficulty. D:

On Dragon Roost island in WW, it's such a goofy game..... complete with GameCube era graphics and that love affair with the silly comic sans-like bubble font.

I am clocking in at 80 hours. I am on the final boss of the game now. It's incredible... It's most definitely one of my most favorite games of all time. The journey is just so amazing and the connections you make with people are so sincere and honest. To be true it's dominating my world and throwing me into the realization I have very small social links with the people I know IRL. rofl

I am sorry to rant off topic. Man... It really struck my heart strings. I think you would enjoy these game mechanics much more. They are quite different. If I made a review it would just be a rant on how much I want to just... *sigh* I don't know. I don't even care anymore. I don't want to play anything else, just Persona... forever. : ( I want to live in Inaba. Review

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR Persona 4 has dominated my soul & entire being. I probably won't stfu about it for a while and piss everyone I know off. I foresee bad events in my future.

I am glad you're enjoying Windwaker too! The thing I really liked about WW is that there is so much to explore and a lot of adventure in it that's really just optional. It was put together very well and it's really worth the journey. I can't stress it enough that some games just have the type of magic where it's "So simple, it's complicated" and that game is definitely one of those. Also, you're a badass pirate child man-boy wandering legend seeking destiny. What's not to like? emotion_c8

If it helps I'd definitely give Persona 4 a go on the PS2 if I spot a used copy at the game store. It definitely looks nothing like Devil Survivor and actually gives you fun things to do to boost your stats. My room will look like a blast from the past having a Gamecube and PS2 on display. emotion_awesome
That's a toooooooon of time for a portable game, holy molay. o: We all get sucked into certain games though, like how I'm currently stuck on kid wearing a silly green tunic.

Fire Emblem should be in any day nooooww. Gonna go check the mailbox. emotion_donotwant

You have an awesome lineup headed your way. Windwaker, Persona 4, and Fire Emblem are all top tier games with unique experiences. The PS2 and GC were probably my two most favorite systems. I am honestly not a huge fan of the newer gen stuff. I'm sure there are many other gems out there that were released for them you just need to look... I fear for games that disappear with time.... buuut the PSVita and 3DS were the best things to happen since the PS2/GC imo. Especially since they are re-making games with more content.

Hey! you are in luck! If you can't find it near you Amazon has your back. Ebay may even be cheaper. Anyways, enjoy it if you decide to go down that road. Uhhh I want to forewarn you. Don't look up stuff about Persona 4 on Youtube or any other site. You'll get massive spoilers and it will ruin the mystery.

Be sure to get at me when you start up Fire Emblem. emotion_c8

Awww yeeeee. I bet the next gen consoles get pretty strong libraries like the handhelds have. I've really enjoyed the reboot trend going on, you can finally play old games without the sometimes shabby old graphics and emulators.

It's good to know P4 is pretty affordable on Amazon. But I probably won't get it until I beat or ragequit WW. (yay for memory cards!) If I have too many games going on at once I'll never finish any of them, hahaha.

I'm about four hours into FE:A, and I'll have to upload pictures of the game nagging at me to get some sleep tomorrow. rofl
It's been a great game so far, and I'm not too sure about being off newb island yet.

I think that's what I enjoy most about the new gen.... they are bringing back the older gen games. rofl It's kind of funny we have all of this technology and all of these games can be sugar coated so well with graphics that will blow your mind but... they are missing the two key ingredients: The good game play, and the story to keep you truly motivated to push forward.

Unique games are simply ideas of older games smashed together. It's cool for a while but, P4 is definitely the most refreshing. If the game has good game play, it doesn't have good presentation.... If the game has good presentation, the game play is terrible. It seems like these things are well missed in this day and age, so it's good to see hits being renewed with so much more content.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I don't like playing more than I can handle and I lose my spot if I switch often. I like to think if you can get ragey at a game it's a good one. There's only one way you're able to challenge yourself. emotion_c8 that's conquering the obstacles that lay before you... if you're not doing that, you're kinda just paying for a movie except putting in much more effort than you need to. Some games are unfairly difficult though. emotion_bandaid That's why we have difficulty settings..... sometimes. Another thing I am not sure I understand.

The classics are the classics! It's been a long time, there's a whole new generation to target with the same old stuff now. : D
And although they don't all have the full triangle of greatness, you don't need it all to be great, kinda like how mangas go. Story can be comped with being entertaining, bad graphics can be fixed by a strong story, and odd controls can be looked over if there's a sharp hook like a strong cast of characters.
Some games take advantage of this a bit too much, but I'm not one to judge what people like..... I'm a fan of the pointless Scribblenauts games myself.

*gives a naughty kid a dead baby for Christmas* emotion_awesome

I agree an easy game is like playing a visual novel or movie, although sometimes that an be a fun thing. Surviving Highschool and Cause of Death for iOS are good examples of that. My game of Fire Emblem is a bit like that too because I overestimated the difficulty of Normal mode. xD I'll make my next game a bit more challenging. Or maybe it will get harder, I'm only on chapter 7 or so. Got myself a candy lovin' thief and Kellam the accidental ninja. Nobody ever notices him, even during battles. rofl

^ Game nagging. Pretty much any time I visited the barracks a character would criticize my poor decisions.

I am glad you can see things that way. emotion_c8 I used to think like that about every game I played and I still do to an extent, but I am noticing things that I really don't want to. I donno, it's kinda like lost pride. I am pretty laid back but I don't like buying a manga to find out half of its pages or blank. I see potential in games that are graphically enhanced. Those graphics could have been sacrificed to make games just as moving or amazing as Persona or Windwaker or any of the games that you enjoy. Most of that whole pros making up for the cons deal is just non-existent on consoles. It's pretty one sided.

I would explain but I would have to write a book about it. I don't feel like it. Although I do feel like we are moving in a positive direction with em'.
