"Why does everyone think I can be bought off with food? I ain't a pig." He grouched with a haughty puff of breath, slouching in his chair. He was just about ready to simply ignore Ami and get back to work.

But then his stomach growled.

...when was the last time he took a break to eat? Dammit. He sighed angrily and got to his feet. "Okay fine."

Ami smiled warmly at the stomach growl, and poked his sides one more time. "Because it's the only way I know how to make you talk." She smirked and added, "You're a very cute pig, too."

As Otto got to his feet, she began shuffling towards the cafeteria. Even as full hunters, it was still the only place on this entire island for food. Ami still kept her distance from the boy- even as close as they were, they were never going to be very touchy feely. "So who asked who? Tell me everything or you're paying for half."

Otto grumbled and grouched, but he followed along, even if she did make him yelp again from getting poked in the side once more. Damn you all to Hell, Ami! Damn you.

Small talk had been initiated. A simple question, one that didn't take much thought. He'd oblige, he supposed. Not that it was anyone's business.

"I did." He said bluntly, puffing his chest a bit as he crossed his arms. No shame, and all sorts of pride coming from his posture there, even if his face did still look pissed off as always.

"When, where and how."

You're not gettin' off so easy there, buster.

"Like.. a week or so ago? Uuuh... outside her room... wait, how?" Otto gave Ami a side glance that oozed teenage attitude.

"I-I dunno, I just told her I liked her... I don't remember everythin' I said.." He'd been babbling his feelings as best he could at the time, unaccustomed to making his emotions known through words.

Ami's face fell a little bit as he announced it was merely outside of her room. As stony and cold as she was, somewhere under all that monotony was a real romantic. Asking in front of her dorm? Not romantic at all. She was slightly disappointed.

Then again, it was Otto. "Don't look at me like that. Have you taken her anywhere?" Just for good measure, she added, "On a date, Otto."

"uuuuh noo..." He trailed off, rubbing his neck. The following was a bit of information that must of not reached the girl. "I was in the infirmary for a week right after that.."

Ami's footsteps stopped, then started once more. "Why were you in the infirmary, Otto?" She might have twitched a little. Mama instincts were go.

Uh oh. Was he in trouble with Mama Bear?

"Er.. got damn near killed by some kinda... body possessing Halloween creature. Ain't never seen nuthin' like it before." He muttered darkly, scratching his chest where the shard of glass had been driven. "It was real messy.. and probably the scariest damn thing I ever went through next to.. well, yanno.."

Ami panicked for just a moment as she thought of the dungeons. Shockwaves of trauma still rippled around her every once in a while. At least she could brush it off now. She really was getting better.

"Wait a second," Ami said, putting a hand to his shoulder. "Now I mean it Otto. Are you okay? And I don't mean physically. You and I both know you can just walk out of that infirmary as long as you're in peak physical condition. They don't give two shits about your mental capacity. So I'll as again. Are you okay?"

Otto blinked back befuddlement, stopping as Ami put a hand to his shoulder. He looked down at the small girl with a furrowed brow as she spoke.

"Uuh.." Otto tended not to dwell on his own feelings. Anytime he did, it was alone. While he had opened up a lot since first waking up, he still didn't have any kind of grasp on sharing his troubles.

"M'fine, I guess? I don't really let myself think about it.. If I did, I doubt I'd be able to handle anythin' Deus has to dish out, yanno?"

Ami let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. Otto was a tough one, she knew that. If he said he was fine, he was fine. There was a distance between them that verified as much.

It didn't mean she wasn't on high alert though. She'd be watching. "I just wanted to check." They were approaching the cafeteria now, and Ami pushed the door open, gesturing him inside.

"What do you want? We'll get you food first, then I want coffee."

Maybe one day Otto would crack under the pressure of all that happened to him. But today was not that day. Somehow, every terrible thing that happened to him seemed to roll right off his shoulders. Was he keeping it bottled up? If he was, it was without him trying to. Maybe he really was tough.

Otto entered the room with his hands stuffed into his pockets since Ami was kind enough to keep the door open for him. "Uuuh.. anythin' that doesn't look like it's been made last week? Cafeteria food is kinda chancy.. And an orange juice." 'Cause tough men like Otto need juice.

Ami nodded in agreement. Cafeteria food could be nasty. It seemed to be universal, even outside of Deus Ex.

"Mmm, I think they're having grilled cheese today, it's hard to mess up grilled cheese. Make sure to eat some fruit with it." She looked around. "I don't know, it's up to you."

"Grilled cheese is fine." Otto murmured. He didn't say as much, but he was sure if there was a way to mess up grilled cheese he could do it. The only thing he didn't ******** up was normal sandwiches, since they didn't involve cooking.

He liked fruit well enough, though he felt the need to add an eye roll to the sass he was giving off at her mothering. "Ya whatever, mom."
