Oh dear.
Oh this was something she was not familiar with. Her brain struggled to articulate what she wanted to say. The problem was, she didn't really know what exactly it was that she wanted to say. Her mind just kept repeating the same phrase over and over again...
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...
What exactly qualified a date? Two people obviously, usually there was food or an activity involved. But didn't they usually set a day in advance for a date? Could there be impromptu dates? And more importantly, did she want to be on a date with Nate? Going on a date with him would certainly change their friendship, at least for Castille. She doubted it would alter anything in the Darrow boy's mind. Which made her feel all the more foolish for reading so far into this incident.
Sure he was cute. In fact, she happened to tell him that the first time they had met as senshi, though she didn't know it was him at the time. That memory made her squirm every time it was revisited, and today was no exception. She felt her cheeks betray her and flush, and she silently cursed.
"I...." she started to speak, then had to pause. She scratched a stray itch on her arm and tried again. "I guess this can be a date." The word made her brain kickstart it's annoying analyzing, but she tried to ignore that for now. She could freak out when she got home. For now she would act like nothing has changed.
For now.

Nathan saw her blushing and watched with curious interest. He had always been a bit of a flirt, and he liked to make people uncomfortable, angry. He liked to see them on edge or out of their usual comfort zones.
He smiled when she said it could be a date, though, nodding his head in agreement.
"Well, there you go. Easy. People get so caught up in titles. Chill out, we can go get that list of yours done if you want." He'd borrow some of the things she needed from the store for her, though probably not with her (or anyone elses) permission.
Nathan generally didn't care if he upset people and they wandered out of his life. But there were a few exceptions to that. Castille had been one of his very few real friends for a long time now, and he understood that it was an important fact.

Castille nodded, feeling her nerves plateau at around increased heart rate. He told her to chill out, but for some reason, the change in the name of their encounter had changed how she felt about it. He was probably messing with her. She knew he liked to do that. But part of her dearly hoped that he wasn't this time.
She finished her lemon scone, but left the blueberry scone uneaten. She placed it gingerly in her purse for later. Nodding again, she said "Sounds good to me. I usually go to the market down the street." She wasn't sure what else to say. She felt a little more awkward than usual still.
The blonde shook her head. She was being rather stupid. Nate was being normal, she should too. After all, it was just a date. He probably said that to her just because she was there. If he had met another one of his friends, who's to say he wouldn't have said the same thing?
Castille was over-analyzing again.
Walking towards the market she said "If you want, you could help me bake them. It requires waiting, but the results are certainly worth it!" She flashed him a smile, feeling her stomach jerk just a little bit in the process.

Nate was only being 'normal' because he could make up his rules as he went along, and never really questioned himself. He didn't let things like worry or hesitation slip into his mind, or they would kill his upbeat attitude.
Because that was what it could be called.
"Bake? Well, I can watch you bake them, and taste test," he offered, shrugging his shoulders. He didn't say no, though, so that was something. He didn't say no because he wasn't inclined to. As it turned out, he didn't hate the idea of baking something with her. If it was almost anyone else, maybe it would have been different, but they'd known each other long enough that he could relax a little, and do things he would otherwise generally say were embarrassing or dumb.
Keeping up appearances and all that, but it only applied to those he knew he could still fool.

Castille laughed, checking her list one more time. Her shopping trip certainly got more interesting. "You are going to be so bored just watching." she cautioned, glancing over at him. Someone watching her bake, that made her a bit uneasy. Almost like she was on some cooking show or something. Castille always waited for her family to be gone before baking. The combination of staring eyes and casual questions about when her project will be done pestered her. But she supposed as long as he didn't just sit and stare at her, she could handle Nate watching her bake.
And perhaps if she asked nice enough, he would end up helping anyway.
She could see the market now, and she ventured to speak again. "So how come you ignored my question earlier? About your parents?" She was referring to the one about his mother specifically, just because she had never heard anything about his mom. He had breezed over the question so easily, Castille had wondered if he had heard her, or if she had simply asked the question in her head and not aloud. It made her curious.

Nathan considered this.
He hated being bored, with a fiery passion. He would do absolutely anything to keep that feeling away, which was why he was often in danger and trouble, and he liked it that way. He frowned and looked at her, tilting his head in thought as he walked along beside her.
"I can make sure I'm not bored," he said, grinning. He wouldn't cause too much trouble, shrugging his shoulders.
"Meh. My parents aren't really the top of my friend list. I don't have much to say about them, usually. My dad's alright, but a wuss and kind of annoying, and now he has a new wife that wants to be my mom. And my real mom was a drug addled loser. I left when I was a kid and I don't think she noticed." He'd been with Tony for a few years now, and it was a better life, sure, though he took his dad for granted.

"oh.."
Awkward. No wonder he didn't talk about his parents very often. She inwardly cringed for asking him such a personal and painful question. "Sorry, I didn't mean to uh, bring up some bad memories." Oh good job Castille. She fell silent after that for the remainder of the walk, not wanting to make another conversational mistake.
The market doors slid open automatically, and a wave of cool air and cheesy music washed over her. She pulled a basket out of the stack of them and took a deep breath, trying to clear the awkward feeling she had.
"Shall we go shopping?"

Blue Eyed Melloon FIN soonish and then we start another one? Nate looked at her with an unreadable expression for a long moment, then grinned and shrugged, waving his hand nonchalantly as if to wave off the bad vibes that his story invited in. He wasn't a hippy and certainly didn't believe in things like that, but he knew a heavy air when he felt one and he wasn't interested in dragging the day down.
The past was done and he couldn't change it, and he didn't want to. If it made him who he was when he was having fun, then it was probably just what was supposed to happen. It wasn't like he didn't like his life now, after all.
So it worked out.
"You shop, I'll watch," he said, as if the stuff before had not even happened. He did, however, take the basket for her. He didn't think about it, he just sort of did it and even he didn't really know why. But since he'd done it he couldn't just wuss out, so he owned it like it was on purpose and walked with her into the store.
