Soft ears pressed against a sleek head as the lioness' eyes caught Tanaka's target. She was confused, her tail lashing in agitation. Why would he choose the strongest of the herd to hunt, when a weaker one was so much easier? Ah... but he'd said he wanted a challenge. Tilting her head, she cast her eyes to him, wondering. His normal hunter's movements were subtly different tonight, holding a note of something that promised more than the usual pain.
A small smile tugged at her muzzle, one that was far from pleasant. Training her gaze on the gazelle again, her tongue flicked out to lick her creamy muzzle in anticipation. Hunger pinched at her stomach, making her all that much more eager to taste this creatures spurting blood... Circling around to the side with careful, silent steps, Kiuma waited for Tanaka's signal, her teeth bared in her sadistic smile.

Gazelle were one of the smallest preybeasts, they weren't especially powerful, but they were fast...very fast. If one ever got into a run, the hunt was over. The key to catching them was stealth.
The lion crouched into a stalk, vanishing in the grass. He moved silently, betraying no sound or scent, inching closer to the obvlivious beast. If one could sense it, Tanaka seemed to radiate evil tonight, he was going to enjoy this. He would make the beast die in agony and revel in its anguished screams.
Talons flexed, fangs bared, muscles tensed. Damn...the wind was changing, they'd be detected, it was now or never. And instant before it knew they were there, Tanaka sprang, surging forward after the fleeing beast. A large paw surged forward, talons sinking into flesh. With a sadistic grin, the lion sank his talons deep into the muscles of the creature's hindquarters, tearing at flesh as it kicked and tried to free itself, it's screams mingling with the eerie purr of the lion.

Kiuma watched through slitted eyes as Tanaka lept from the grass to sink his claws into the gazelle. His hold, while painful to the creature, could be broken by a swift kick of its legs, and it would be gone. With a snarl, the red lioness darted from the grass, claws and fangs flashing in the starlight.
The gazelle's sqeal of pain was cut short as ivory fangs clamped down on its throat, turning to soft gurgle. She let her weight drag at it till the slender legs gave out and the trio tumbled to the ground. Its struggles excited her... the smell and taste of fresh blood swamping her scenses. The sound she made was half growl half purr, her tail lashing through the grass razor talons cut into muscled shoulders through tawny fur. None of the strikes they'd delt it were fatal, but the grip on its throat cut of air it desperately need. It wouldn't be long before the gazelle died of suffocation.
Meanwhile, it suffered the pain of claws in its body and fangs in its throat, struggling to free itself, to breath.

Tanaka's intention had never been to outright kill the creature, nor was suffocation sadistic enough for him. He had intended to disable the creature, his strike meant to sever tendons and ligaments so that the animal could no longer run. With escape impossible, it would have been at their mercy, helpless to escape the sadistic taunts of the lions. His intent was to maximize suffering, tearing the creature limb from limb, and devouring it alive. And he wanted to hear it scream.
To this end, the lion's maw opened, starlight glistening on menacing fangs, a well placed bite delivered to a rear leg, and the limb was wrenched from the creature's body with a sickening snap of bone and tearing of muscle. The effect was immediate, unable to kick and weakened by the spurting loss of blood, the gazzelle sprawled to the ground. The weight of a great paw, and the other hind leg was snapped against the ground.
An evil grin, the blood-stained lion stepped back and watched in delight as his victim struggled and writhed desperately despite it's disabled back end and the weight of the lioness on it's throat which would soon kill it. Ah, but that was too soon, it hadn't suffered enough yet. Another strike of those massive paws, razor sharp talons slashing across it's belly, tearing through flesh and spilling blood and intestines on the ground. A half purr, half laugh echoing in the night air, green eye sparkling in evil glee at the struggles of the evisearted beast.
"I want to hear it scream."

The red lioness blinked as blood sprayed her, the effect of Tanaka slitting the creature open. At his words, she released its throat, blood dripping from her fangs. One paw still rested on its shoulder, claws burried deep into spasming muscle. A deep purr, like the grinding of rocks, vibrated from Kiuma's chest as she lay in a growing pool of gore and smiled up at her companion.
Oh, the smell of blood made the air thick and sweet, her own blood coursing through her veins with increased vigor. She felt so alive... unlike the gazelle they'd pulled down. No, he was already dead, he just didn't realize it yet. Eviscerated and hamstrung, still it struggled to rise, to escape the cruel paws of the lion pair. Usually, Kiuma wasn't this violent with her tortures. More often, she meerly disabled her quarry and batted it around till it expired from exhaustion and fear. But this... this was glorious. Blood, fear, pain, despair... they were like a drug to her, and she luxuriated in them.
Kiuma's smile was feral now, blood on her fangs and claws, a near manic light to her bright eyes. With a yowl of pleasure, the buried those fangs into flesh next to her claws, and ripped a chunk of hide and muscle from the still squirming creature, swallowing it whole in accompaniment to the gazelles screams. The adolescent was lost in a sea of sensation and sadistic pleasure, her mind and body in ecstacy to where she could barely think.

The grin on the lion's maw was frightening, a grin of pure evil and malice. An echoing purr rumbled in his chest to mix with his laughter, a horrific sound straight from the depths of hell. His bloodstained coat glowed eeriely in the starlight, and in that moment he looked more like a devil than a lion, let alone a god.
The great paw fell again, leaving gaping gashes across the creatures chest, exposing it's ribcage. The monster revelled in the spurting blood, lapping at the red liquid, savoring the metallic taste. The screams of the tormented beast filled his ears and intoxicated him.
Lowering his head, the lion sank his fangs deep into the creature's midsection, tearing off a large chunk of flesh with a jerk of his head. The sound of tearing flesh and snapping tendons mingled with the screams of anguish and pain; it was a glorious sound.

Kiuma joined her laugh to Tanaka's and pulled back her paw. With a sharp thrust, it broke through the protective ribs and deep into the gazelle's chest to lock talons around its still beating heart. Mercifully, it spasmed, let out a gurgling cry, and finally died. Even as the light left its painfilled eyes, the joyous red lioness pulled her paw back, dragging the heart from the corpse. With a short, manic laugh, she bit into it like some gruesome fruit, yet more blood spurting to darken her fur and run down her chin and chest. Gleefully, she ripped it apart, savoring every tiny morsel with every indication of ecstatic enjoyment.
It wasn't long before her hunger was sated as she ripped and tore at the carcass with her fangs, recklessly swallowing the sweet, bloody meat whole. Settling back on her haunches, she sighed in contentment. Her belly bulged with her meal, and her nerves still sang with the thrill of what they had just done to the poor, hapless creature. This was beyond a hunting kill... beyond killing in anger or in defence. This was killing for the pure joy of it, for seeing the how much pain could be caused. And Kiuma reveled in it, her thick, rattling purr staining the night as the gazelle's blood stained the ground and her pelt.

Blood sprayed from the beast, splattering the lion's already stained coat, pelting his mane with drops of red. His tail flicked behind him maliciously accompanying the terrifying purr in his throat.
His jaws parted, appearing almost vampiric for a moment, before fangs sank into the creature's through, piercing it's jugular. Blood flowed from the wound, filling the lion's mouth and he drank the sweet liquid in horrific glee. It was only when the stream of blood slowed to a trickle that the lion jerked his head back, wrenching the flesh from the beast and swallowing it whole.
When the pair was at last finished, there was nearly nothing left. The brutally mutilated corpse lay silently on the blood drenched earth, nothing more than a pile of bones and fur. Tanaka turned toward Kiuma with that same wicked grin on his face, a low grovelly purr rumbling in his chest. Tonight had indeed been a good night for bloodshed, and a glorious and ruthless night it had been. His bloodlust satisfied for now, the lion settled next to his companion, content.

Kiuma smiled to her companion, eye bright and glittering in the darkness. Tanaka was nearly as red as she was... at least, half of him was. Though in the darkness, they both appeared a uniform dark color, save the parts of him that still glowed a pure white. He'd never be able to get all that blood from his face... even with a good wash in the river.
Moved by impulse, her inhibitions crushed beneith the flood of emotion from what she had done, the adolescent scooted close to sit next to Tanaka. Leaning forward she began to groom the blood from along his jaw and one cheek, her purr still rattling in her chest. Eyes slitted nearly closed, she worked methodically by touch, slowly removing fresh and dried alike so it wouldn't stain his lovely white pelt. It was hard to remember if she'd ever done this for someone before... Maybe Uumi, when they were very young and he wasn't nearly so set against physical contact. 'Course, her mother had done it for her countless times... Maybe that's what prompted this strange action now.

Tanaka nearly jumped at the touch, startled, the lion briefly shyed away. It wasn't that he didn't like it, or that he hadn't even thought of doing the same thing himself if he didn't think he'd find the lioness' fangs in him for it. His reaction was no more than one of surprise, and a moment later he settled back against her, purring as he leaned into her touch.
If there was ever a reason to not have a full mane, this was it. From his maw to his paws was pure red, save for what Kiuma had already managed to clean off. Had his chest been covered with mane, it too would have been soaked through and been impossible to clean.
Tanaka lifted one paw and set it to rest against one of hers, his eye falling closed as his own tounge flicked from his mouth to lick the blood from her cheek. For as violent as he had been a few moments before, the lion's touch was surprisingly gentle, the purr so evil before, was soft and captivating now.

The way her heart skipped a beat, then took off at twice its normal pace left the young lioness confused and disoriented. Shaking her sleek head, she pulled back for a moment, then attacked the bridge of his nose and the parts of his muzzle he couldn't reach on his own.
"I don't need the cleaning, Tanaka. A little more red won't change a thing. You on the other hand, will look positively pink if we don't get this off. So sit still and let me work..." When the undamaged half of his face was clean, she moved to the other side, scooting around until she could reach him without strain. She worked even slower now, tongue tracing the paths of scars and ever so gently moving over the place where his other eye had once been.
"Tanaka... I never asked, but what happened to you that you received such horrible scars? If... if you don't want to tell me, I won't bother you." She concentrated on her grooming, tail curling nervously around her paws. She wasn't sure if that was a boundary she wasn't supposed to cross, and it had never occured to her to ask, till now.

He might have turned pink for a moment, but it wasn't from the blood. She didn't want his touch, or maybe he had just unnervered her. Either way, he decided it was best not to push it any further and simply contented himself with hers.
When she reached his scares he shuddered and tried not to cringe. Of all his scars, that was the one he was most self-conscious about, more than his wings; it was so much that he always made sure to cover that side of his face with his mane. If it had been anyone else, he would have mauled or killed whoever dared look there, but Kiuma was different, with her it didn't bother him so much.
At her words he closed his eye and lowered his head a bit. This question was bound to come up at some point, and it wasn't that he dreaded it or that he didn't want her to know, he just...didn't know how to explain or where to start. Normally it was something he didn't like to talk or think about.
"The price of making the wrong enemies I suppose."
No...that wasn't a good answer. But where was he to start?

Kiuma didn't push him here, meerly giving a soft growl to show what she thought of his enemies. If he wanted to continue, good. If not... she'd have to live with her curiousity. She sensed this was something that couldn't be rushed or forced.... especially now.
Leaving his now clean face, her tongue curled under his jaw and moved down to his neck only so far as where he couldn't reach. Much as she enjoyed this task, which was far more than she felt she should, it would be awkward if she did more. Already, the whole thing hinted at things she wasn't ready to face.
Then she was done, and settled back on her haunches, giving his chin one final, cursory lick. She was satisfied now that he would stay as white as the day she'd met him, and her deep, rattling purr started up again.

The lion remained silent for a time, his lightly flicking tail an indication of his thoughts. It was fortunate that she didn't press the matter, it gave him to to gather his thoughts and decide if he really wanted to talk about it or not. It would have been easier if she could have just known without him having to tell her, to some it might have seemed obvious that the only way a god could receive such scars would be to anger another god. But not that he thought about it she had never made any indication that she recognized him as a god, perhaps his pride didn't believe in gods. It was just as well, he wouldn't have believed in gods either, and as far as he was concerned he longer was part of that world.
It wasn't until Kiuma had finished her task that he finally opened his eye and looked up. He may as well tell her, it wasn't like it was something she shouldn't know. It was just a matter of convincing himself to talk about it.
"There...is a group of lions who call themselves gods," he snorted at these words, "not that they deserve to be called such. There was a time that I was one of them. But, I angered some of them," he smirked as if that was putting it mildly, as if remember some act of villiany, perhaps murder...or worse, "and they tried to kill me for it. Bet they're really pissed off that I'm still alive."
Tanaka couldn't help the grin that came to his maw at that thought. Normally thinking about the past infuriated him, but this time was different and for a change he was calm. That's not to that he was forgiving, or that he wouldn't still love to get his jaws on one of them and do to them as he had done to the gazelle. He had after all been nearly killed, and that made him thirst for revenge. But he didn't miss them, nor did he miss the world to which they belonged.

"Oh..." A frown crinkled her forehead as she thought this over. They'd tried to kill one of their own... ripped him apart and left him for dead. She convieniently over looked the fact that she had done a similiar thing to many a helpless creature by explaining it as; 'well, they weren't lions'. Anger flashed in her bright eyes, hot and molten. For a long moment, she seethed, every muscle in her young body tense and hard as steel. Then that anger cooled, turned to heavy ice. They'd hurt Tanaka... she'd hurt them.
The red body relaxed, turning soft and limber once again. Hot anger was good for the attack, for action. This, though, called for cold anger. Anger that didn't burn itself up all at once, but remained, allowing her to think more clearly than ever before. Let her meet one of these 'Gods', the lions like Tanaka. It wouldn't be long before they shared his fate, and worse.
Shaking off her heavy thoughts, storing them and the anger carefully away in a corner. Time enough for that later. There was nothing she could do about it now. As the anger left her and her body relaxed more, a huge, jaw cracking yawn split her maw, tongue curling from her mouth as her stained teeth flashed in the darkness. The enevitable sleepiness that came with such a meal was dragging at her limbs and mind. The night was still young, time enough to sleep of her meal till the morning.
"It was not right, Tanaka. Not right. But thank you for telling me." She shook her head, nearly yawning again. "Come on. I'm sleepy again. Lets go back to our tree and sleep off this gazelle, eh?"
