"If only mockery were the only thing I did, apparently." Candace shook her head. At least she'd taken note of whatever grievances he'd let her in on.
Jordan's curiosity was expected, though Candace was surprised he was asking her why she thought the other Candace was perfect. "She didn't love anyone." She replied without missing a beat, sliding off the arm of the sofa to flop down on the cushions. "Well, she didn't love anyone except her partner 'Po'. She was able to just do everything without any emotional backlash, she didn't worry what people would say, how she would look, what people would think. Because she never messed anything up." Despite her efforts to let go and move on from her mistakes Candace had never been okay with failure. Never. It was unacceptable. Even if no one else brought it up anymore it still haunted her every now and then, especially if she saw a reminder of what she'd done.

Jordan shook his head, smiling ruefully. "He's getting better about actual communication, at least. Even if it does take a crowbar sometimes."
He rubbed his thumb absentmindedly across the band of Ferros's ring as he listened to Candace's answer. "I think," he said carefully, "that emotion is what separates us from the real monsters. The capacity to care about others, and what others think." He gave her a long look, not critical, but thoughtful, interested. "Is never making a mistake what made her perfect?"

Candace frowned at Jordan's answer, sitting with her back against the man and her head on his shoulder, her feet hanging over the arm of the couch. She wasn't moving. Deal with it. "I didn't used to care. I used to be like her, able to shut everything out and just get s**t done. Now it's hard.." She pursed her lips, her eyes focused up on the ceiling. Candace knew Jordan was probably taking each and every word and analyzing it, luckily not as a form of judgement or she'd be annoyed. She liked talks with Jordan, he was rational. She admired that.
She was quiet for some time after Jordan asked his question, thinking hard on her answer. Candace wanted to be perfect. She wanted it so badly she would do any number of things to achieve it. In some ways she could see where Rep had been coming from when he went off on them, but she couldn't condone his actions regardless. "I don't know.." She frowned again. "She did make a couple, I guess. Early on. But even when she did, she didn't get plagued by them. She didn't think about them. I want to be able to do that..." She was sick of mistakes haunting her memories. "Caelius tried to kill me during my promotion mission." Candace brought up seemingly out of the blue. "He ran me through with Circe, right through my throat...but nothing happened...this was after he had gone into very vivid detail as to why I was a worthless failure who didn't deserve to be a Hunter. Apparently any flawed behavior of mine makes it into reports~." She said in a somewhat bitter singsong tone, sighing after.

"If you don't think about your mistakes at all, you can't figure out how not to repeat them," Jordan pointed out neutrally. He grimaced at the second part of it. "That sounds like Caelius. And I think that most of us have some shitty reports filed." He rested a hand on her shoulder.
"For what it's worth," he said after a moment, "you're one of the toughest, most capable people I know."

Despite the point Jordan made being a good one Candace just still couldn't accept it. Okay, think about them to learn from them...but she had trouble shaking them. She hated it. It aggravated her. "On today's mission, Jordan blinked incorrectly. Instead of one eye and then the other he did both at the same time. Clearly he is incompetent in his duties as a Sun hunter." Candace spoke mockingly in Cael's typical tone, giving a small smile when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
"Thanks, you too, destroyer of signs and flower beds." She grinned.

Jordan laughed. He winked one eye, then made an exaggerated grimace and winked the other. "Dammit. This blinking thing, seriously, I don't even know. Guess I've got to train harder."
"Those flower beds had it coming," he said mock-seriously.

"If you can't control your eyelids what good are you to anyone? God, Jordan." Candace scoffed and rolled her eyes as if this was the most obvious thing ever.
She snorted at his feelings toward the flower beds. Those poor flowers. "They just wished you would love them as much as you love the coffee bean."

Jordan angled a skeptical eyebrow at Candace. "Sorry, flowers," he said. "I will never love another plant like I love the sacred bean."

Candace gasped, a hand flying up to press against the top of her chest in a shocked and scandalized manner. "Jordan! Don't speak so loudly, they'll hear you."

"That it is~." Candace grinned, glancing down at Jordan's left hand. "Can I see it? I haven't had a chance to harass Harrison over it other than the initial 'oh my goooooooood' from New Year's."

Jordan blinked at the subject shift, but followed Candace's glance easily enough. He smiled, proud and almost shy, and held his hand up so that Candace could see the simple tricolor band better.

She gave a happy little squeal and gently held Jordan's hand to bring it closer, happy to see the ring so up close. It was so pretty! "Ahhh! I'm so happy for you guys!" All three of them, yes. Even Rep. She gave Jordan a hug. "Do you have any plans yet?"

"Thanks," Jordan said, quietly pleased by Candace's excitement. He hadn't really thought anyone else would be excited about it; it was a nice surprise that someone was happy for them. He patted her back as she hugged him and chuckled a little. "Not yet, we've been a little too busy to get anything planned out. Probably not going to be too elaborate."
I would like to stand with you, Ferros said hesitantly.
Of c - oh, in a golem, you mean? I wonder if we could get permission.
I'd like it, Ferros repeated, and went quiet again, radiating a kind of nervous pride, all tangled up with a complex knot of emotions.

Ah, busy. Right. That made sense. "As long as you guys are happy~." How would it work? There were so many things she wanted to ask, but it almost felt awkward to bombard Jordan with these questions. She smiled and watched Jordan when he got quiet, giving his arm a gentle squeeze. "Adorable~."
