'It's fine, I was just messing around.' Neena replied. She guessed not everyone found the same things funny - or she just needed to stop teasing someone she barely knew. She smiled at him, letting him know she wasn't upset in any small way.
Well, that went a small way to explaining how he made his things; he had help from what she guessed was a creature with more nimble digits. Or, to be exact, digits of any kind.
She followed him into the clearing, looking around at the bits and bobs that had been collected by the stallion.
'What's this?' she asked, going over to the item that was obviously being created.

She gave a nod to let her know he understood that he hadn't meant any harm. As she asked her question, he followed her gaze to the small model. "That?" He thought of the best way to explain it. "That is a bird.. well sort of..." The strapping's made it look like it could be strapped onto something. "As foals, my sisters envied a cousin of ours for his wings.. So.. They came to me and asked if it was possible to give the grounded flight. When I was growing up, I always was a bit of a crafty and creative sort. That model was where I got my start.. I tried to replicate the wings of a small bird but, like so many of my earlier works, they didn't work or didn't last long to be of much use."He turned to look at the bigger more foal sized replica of the model. It looked worse for wear and rather banged up. "I guess you could say that it is because of them that I have such a fascination with anything that can fly." He gave a light chuckle. "That took me most of my later foal-hood to build.. and they only got to try it once.. It didn't work so well when we went to the hill to test it out.. And so you see it here.. the wreck that it became.. I think by the time Roselyn, she's my mother's familiar, and I finally got it built, that we were already to big for it's uses. But still... I did have to try if it would put a smile on my sister's faces."Stepping to the side, he looked at the items he used as materials. "I want to learn as much as I can so that I can do good for others, thought sadly there are two sides to every leaf. So just as I would want to do good, so too could that item be used for ill. As much as this is my home, I've Wander seeking what knowledge I can, even if it means I have to stalk a few of the natives. They're interesting sorts... And do some even stranger things."

'A bird?' Neena tilted her head to one side, trying to work out how it could be one of those, even giving it a little sniff. It didn't much resemble one of those hooligans of the sky, but she didn't want to say so for fear of giving offence. Then he continued, explaining as she listened.
'So they don't work then? That's a shame.' Neena loved flying, and felt that everyone should get the chance to try it if they were able. But then, being on the ground wasn't all bad either, and she supposed that if everyone had wings the sky would be incredibly crowded. She laughed at herself for her contrary ways.
'Natives? You mean the two-leggers?' she asked, curious again. She didn't have much contact with them as they didn't have or do anything that interested her. At least, that was what she supposed.
'What strange things have you seen them do?'

"Yes.. well sort of.. It isn't supposed to flap.. they're more for... gliding... make sense? strap it on to some grounded soquili and let them test out the air.. or that's the theory..." He reached over to his creation prodding at come of the buckling. "I had to dismantle it to upgrade it after I realized my sisters had nearly out grown it.. but it did work at one time.. only... size of a growing foal.. It rather made it not last for much use." He gave a small chuckle. "I'm trying to work on gradually building it better, make it last longer.. perhaps even let something as heavy as a grown soquili use it..."His eyes seemed to almost glitter with glee as he explained his contraption. Looking over as she changed the subject on him, he gave a small nod. "The two-leggers...that's what I mean." He thought back on some of the things he'd witnessed. "They are something.. I just cannot comprehend... and their... need to coo and offer treats when they spot you... baffling.." He shook his head. "No, I think as much as their things interest me.. I'll keep my distance and let them do as they will...them and their crazy methods of moving things... effective.. but strange..."

'Yes, it makes sense. I think it would be rather difficult to make something that worked exactly like wings?' Neena said, though she was incredibly impressed that he had managed to make something that was even close to wings. He certainly was both skilled and clever.
'Do you think you could eventually do that, make it so someone your size could fly?' she tried to imagine who would be brave enough to test out the strange contraption. To her mind, though she wasn't as clever as he was, it would be safer to try it on someone who could already fly in case it stopped working. It was all a bit beyond her to really get her head around though.
'Hmm..' she bit back the observation that she wanted to make; that as peculiar as the two-legged ones behaviour were to him, that was as baffling to her as the things he made, impressed as she was.
'Well, I stay out of their way, mostly because I am on the wing so often. I haven't seen them enough to agree, but I'll take your word for it.'

"Well.. difficult is a bit of an understatement." He said with a small nod. "I can make a frame to get the shape.. but the actual movement?" He shook his head some. "That is something that has alluded my craft."He thought some about if it was possible at all and he gave a tentative nod. "I believe so... The theory is sound.. I may not be able to make one of my size fly out right with the moving wings.. but to soar.. to glide along... It's just a manor of getting all the right things together.. trial and error.. but until I'm certain it's working and safe.. I won't let anyone try it out say for myself.. If some one's to get hurt on it.. I'd rather it be me as it's my own contraption."He gave a small chuckle. "I'm sure you find this all a bit... much to take on, no? My family seems to either not worry or have given up worrying.. So if this all seems odd.. then it's fine. I'm sure you likely won't ask anything I haven't been asked by my family many a time before.. Including 'Were you switched from your basket?' as a popular inquiry."

Neena spread one of her wings for a moment, watching as it moved, and then she folded it back again, tucking it next to the other.
'I don't really think about how my wings work much, but I guess if I thought about it, they must be quite complicated workings. I just take it for granted that they work!'
Neena gave a little shake of her head at his words. 'Oh but you shouldn't be the one. Forgive me, but you don't have wings, and if something should go wrong you wouldn't have any back-up. Like I do.' she smiled. 'Please, I might not understand all you're saying, but if you work on this some more and want to try it out, feel free to ask me. I've taken falls and bad landings before, I won't mind a few more bumps.'
She laughed at his latter statement. 'I'm sure they just see that you're happy doing all this.' she nodded at his contraptions. 'How did you get into doing this sort of thing?'

He frowned furrowing his brow some. The way he calculated the size of this it would be no better for her to test the thing out than himself. No stallion of his family worth their salt would have allowed a mare to take an injury meant for them if they could help it. Sure.. the mares in his family were known for being resilient and in some cases hard headed and trained fighters.. but every soquili was different in their pain tolerance. "I thank you for your offer. However, I must decline.. To put you in a position without your wings.. Should something happen to harm you I would be without honor. I could not put you knowingly in harm's way. That is why I have vowed to test out all my contraptions first." He gave a sturdy nod set in his resolve. "It's not like I'll start off on tall cliffs though.. I'll start small and go from there.."He gave her a friendly smile to show that she hadn't upset him with her offer. "It is very likely that they do just let me be because it makes me happy..." He thought some as he looked back over some of his things. How had he come to start his tinkering? He'd never really given that much thought.. he just.. did it.. The more he thought of it them more he remembered just how much different he really was from the majority of his family. The answer wasn't really a simple one. "I was a bit of a shy foal.. I didn't want to come out of my basket.. Very attached to it if you couldn't tell.. I still have what remains of it over there..." He motioned with his nose to the old warn and worse for were basket he'd been in. "Took it everywhere I went now that I think of it.. It was when were returning from an outing with my mother, that my grandmother got a visit from one of the two-leggers.. a rather.. strange female.. at least I think it was a female.. it had those things in the front.. the lumps. My mother said that that two-legger was some times seen bringing my grandmother roses and sitting at the edge of the herd's lands just watching us move about blissfully.. I'd never really noticed till that day. But she dropped something.. and it looked very strange but it gave me an idea of something.. I started fiddling with things and even had my mother's familiar helping me to make something like it with little odds and ends I found about. Though it wasn't till my sisters came to me saying that the wished they had wings like our our father's cousin that I got started on the bigger things.. I figured if I could make smaller things.. then why not try something bigger?? The recluse that more or less was as a foal made it easier for me to set my mind to working on these things.. I always wanted to know how things worked any ways.. Back then I thought if I could give them little wings of their own even if they didn't work that it would make them happy.. So, that's where I got my fascination of wings."

Neena frowned in mirror of the stallion. She'd just met him, they were just getting to know each other really, but she felt he was too remarkable to be hurt. Which was kind of a weird thought..anyway, she arranged her face in a lighter expression and just tried to joke her way past her thoughts.
'Oh but you're too handsome to get damaged!' she exclaimed, which was true enough, but she'd not given voice to her thoughts before now. He was far and away the prettiest male she'd met, though she was sure that calling him 'pretty' might not go down well, they usually liked to be thought of as 'strong', or 'capable'. So handsome it would be.
'You seem quite outgoing now, I guess you grew out of the shy phase?' she said with a smile. He certainly hadn't come across that way, or maybe he was simply enthusiastic about what he did and that helped.
'So, do you have a lot of winged friends then?' she imagined that he might seek them out, given his fascination. She was sure as well that he had some dainty winged mare as his mate.

He'd been expecting her to say 'pretty' always with the pretty.. something his sisters once joked over after they'd grown older. They'd even wondered once if he fancied stallions with how much the pretty boy he'd turned out to be, going as far as to ask if the reason he was rarely ever seen in the company of mares was on that account. Handsome was certainly the last thing he'd expected to hear. Blinking with a little bit of shock, he gave a small chuckle. "Outer looks are just one thing.. You can be appealing to the eye but still have a nasty disposition.. Gaining a few scars wouldn't be so terrible a fate.. My mother has a rather large one on her front shoulder.. though she hides it with the length of her mane.." He glanced around to make sure no one was around to have heard that. It wasn't that she was ashamed of the scar.. his mother bore it and the scars on her rump proudly.. but when some saw that big of a scar on her they asked questions and the questions lead to explanations which brought back that horrible day before he was even a twinkling thought to his parents. "It's a rather long story but not mine to share.."He cracked more of a smile at her comment. "True.. now I am.. but once I was even on my way to becoming quite the hermit.. My mother finally put her hoof down and.. even as small as she is.. she managed to make me see her reason with why I needed to find friends.. So we came to an agreement in my youth.. I'd find three friends and bring them home to meet her.. and she'd let me tinker as I wanted.. She feared my tinkering obsession would ruin my life I think. In the end I made some friends and learned to become more talkative." He gave a small tilt of his head as he thought. Winged friends did he really have many? the answer was surely not.. he had acquainted but say for those few friends he'd made none of them really had any wings. "No.. though I do have some winged acquaintances." He chuckled lightly. "My sisters are likely still betting that I'm secretly hiding a stallion lover some place." He laughed fully shaking his head at the notion.

'Did I say something wrong?' Neena asked, catching the brief look of shock and then listened as he talked.
'Agreed, though in your case your outer and inner match..if you don't mind me saying.' she added with not a little blushing on the nose. She didn't often speak like this, and she felt she might be coming off as flirting - not that it was a bad thing, as she certainly liked what she knew of him so far..but still, she might just embarrass herself if he was mated or just not at all interested.
'Well, I am glad you came out of your shell, you are easy to talk to, at least, I find you to be.' she gave a little nod.
'Oh? A stallion lover?' her forehead wrinkled as she tried to wrap her mind around that. She wasn't judgmental, but she did spend alot of her time on the wing, or travelling to far flung areas of the land, and as such she had yet to meet anyone that had found love with their own gender.
'I guess I thought you had someone.' she admitted, with a sheepish look.

"No, you didn't say anything wrong.. It's just that handsome wasn't what I expected to hear.. 'pretty' would have been the word I was expecting, so it stunned me a little.." He admitted what he'd been thinking. "I'm glad I'm easier to talk to though.. It's been a more enjoyable thing than keeping to myself.. less.. lonely." It hadn't been till he'd been forced to actually make friends that he'd realized just how lonely being a recluse was.
"Oh?" He shook his head some. "No, I think I'm the only bachelor left in my family.. my nephews I believe all have found loved ones of their own.. And I'm sure my sisters have too.. I haven't seen them in quite some time so I'm unsure on that."

'Well you are..' she started and then chuckled a little. 'I have to be honest, I do think that as well, but then I figured you might not like being called that. And handsome does suit you better, even if I do think you're neater than I am.'
After all, they'd met when she crashed into a bush, and he'd pulled leaves off her. It wasn't the best first impression, and if she had a chance she'd choose to meet him again but after making a graceful landing, and not looking like she'd fought a bush and lost.
Neena's eyebrows raised at his answer; she wasn't expecting that answer.
'Really, how does that happen? Pardon me for saying so, but I am really surprised at that.'
Not that she was about to put herself forwards, she couldn't imagine what his type was, but she couldn't imagine she would be it! No, she shook such thoughts from her mind, her attention going back to Cadhla.
'I like being with friends myself, even though I do love flying, and I don't often get company up there.'

CitrusCupcake lol he has none because he's been too busy with his contraptions?? nose in the work that kinda stuff hahaha don't think he'd know what to do with it if it was offered to him tbh... Cad gave a small nod. "I suppose standing next to my dad's family I do look rather.. pretty." He said with a small chuckle. "Then again being decorated with roses.. standing next to some knights, male and female, who wear armor would make one look the prim and proper type." He shook his head with another chuckle. "I don't know.. I guess I just never seemed to get my head out of my work long enough to look? Who knows what's passed me by these years. I always figured if it was meant to happen.. it would." His withers gave a small movement a form of a shrug from him. He'd never been in a hurry to find love and have children. Especially after his sister Haven had turned up one day round belly swollen with her first set of foals and the father no where in sight. Still the stallion never came and he'd had a mind to stalk him down and pound him into the earth.. or worse.. his mind worked in a crafty way and with such craftiness came more.... inventive ways to do some one harm. He'd always held a grudge against the father of his nephews for never turning up to take responsibility over his sister's condition.

'Yes, but standing next to me you look pretty.' Neena pointed out, chuckling, shaking her tangled mane braid as she did so.
'So you never gave a thought to finding a mate or even having children?' she asked, curious now as to how the male mind worked on such things. She was sure stallions didn't think about it as much as mares, but she wondered if they thought, or planned it all.
'I guess you'd have to take your head from your work and look around you. I always assumed that one day I'd find someone, and then I'd have a family..' she sounded faintly wistful as she said it. Truthfully a herd, or family was top of her thoughts these day, but she didn't like to speak of it much as she felt it made her sound desperate..or lonely, or both. But Cadhla was easy to speak to and so she found herself sharing more than she usually did.
