Unfortunately, Endymion was almost completely unaware of the term 'empathic,' so could not accurately pinpoint why he was reacting in such a strong manner. All he knew was that he could relate to Jayme's feelings, in a way, but not to the situations that lead up to their culmination. Truthfully, he had a hard enough time imagining anything like Jayme's predicament could actually happen outside of fiction, despite the fact he didn't doubt the words that were spoken. He could deny them all he wanted, say that it shouldn't happen... but then, what good would it really do in the end? It seemed the curly-haired brunette was already fully aware of this fact, and the scyther didn't want to make matters worse by pointing out situations that would be better yet impossible to accomplish at this point in time. He fidgeted, unsure what he could possibly say. It all seemed so shallow in his head, and he knew none of it would sound any better when verbalized. Maybe it would have been more helpful to have known any options for where Jayme could escape to before opening his trap about it, for instance...
It was just so frustrated to hear of it, something he was sure was also illegal, and yet have no power to stop it. Endymion may not have been the most ambitious when it came to confrontation, but even he felt the urge to do something about Reese.
Normally the sudden touch of anyone's hand on Endymion's shoulder would have caused the scyther to flinch away, but it seemed to be a communicated notion of understanding, to an extent. It was comforting, in a cynical way, and Endy found himself merely sighing in response to Jayme's explanation. There really was nothing either of them could do, was there..? He offered a sharp nod, though it was mostly out of resignation instead of agreement. The flinch finally did come once Jayme wrapped his arms around the scyther's frame, causing the boy to fret about accidentally harming the teddiursa. This fear almost became vocal until Jayme had explained his reasoning, which somehow managed to... diffuse the anxiety, tinging it with something akin to melancholy instead. He still couldn't accurately assess his own actions, but he attempted to regardless, "I don't know, I can kind of... relate, I suppose. I-In a way." He breathed another sigh, returning the hug with a carefully placed wrist to the shoulder, "I th-think I may be... maybe too quick to assume friendship at times. Kind of like... family. You defend family..." He flushed again; well that was horribly embarrassing to admit.
Pulling his eyes down to look at the indicated nails, Endymion tried to keep his mind off of the bruises that adorned the wrists just out of sight. They were... at least very well-cared-for nails, but the insinuation as to why they were that way didn't help ease the tension. Already, he really, really hated Reese. "'Didn't need to'... you're a pokémon!" he growled, "Of course you need it, especially if he keeps threatening you like that!" Try as he might, he couldn't just stop caring, the reactions were too severe to keep to himself.
While he hadn't meant to upset the other teen, Endymion's own irritation over the underlying situation proved to be adept at masking his observational skills a bit. He almost cringed at Jayme's explanation on how he planned to use the scenery to his advantage without sounding very confident in his own ability. "Just..." he thought about it, then motioned toward a tree a handful of yards away, "How about you try hitting that with those rocks or sticks?" Scare tactics oftentimes only worked if you could back up your claim.
His head remained lowered to keep the blush from view, unaware that it had already been discovered. Busying his mind with attention to imagination, he picked out the pieces of the tent visually, trying to see where they were suppose to go in the big picture. Did the larger pole just... prop the rest of the tent up in the middle? No, it seemed too long for that sort of thing, so it must have to be slid in through one of the sides... Pulling a corner of the fabric closer, he noted the folded-over seam and how it appeared to be the right size for the pole. Prodding at it in indication, he asked, "Try pulling it through here. If we go one step at a time, maybe we could figure it out as it comes together," he suggested, unaware that it was possible the steps had to be done in a certain order. He managed to be able to smile as Jayme stated that the pain in his cheek was lessening, "Ah, good. Should probably keep an eye on the swelling, but it should be okay." He wasn't used to being thanked so much, though... did that mean he was actually doing something right?
It was obvious that after being complimented to such an alien extent left the scyther completely speechless, and such a reaction was probably not helping Jayme feel any better. In fact, he noticed the teddiursa's demeanor quickly turned more inward, and while incapable of speech at the moment, noted the reactions. He could almost predict what Jayme was thinking with the way he acted so nervously, and the quietly muttered commentary of those thoughts only helped to secure those guesses. It was about when the other teen started cursing himself did Endymion finally find his voice, but it reacted in a completely contrary way that could only make the situation that much better or far, far worse -- he laughed. He couldn't help it, and his few seconds that resulted in a lack of an explanation weren't helping, but the jolt was enough for him to locate his voice afterwards, "You... you sound just like I do when I think I've said something wrong!" It was as though he had completely forgotten his own anxiety on the spur of the moment.

Jayme couldn't help but watch Endy's emotions playing out over his face with a curious look. They'd known one another what? A half hour tops at this point? Yet he was this upset about it all, and trying to help and all. It was so absolutely foreign to him that he was staring at the other teen in wonder, really.
The returned hug was a surprise to Jayme, and he half melted against Endy from that simple action. It was one of those unconscious reactions. How long had it been since anyone had hugged him? So long he couldn't remember, honestly. "Family..." he gave a soft laugh. Oh how he missed having a family.
The rollercoaster of reactions from Endy was dizzying really. He wasn't used to the up and down of them coming so quickly. Reese was usually grumpy, and grabby. Urban was just loud and grumpy. Ghede was pervy and Zevian was loud and mean. He was used to set emotions. Not this barrage of them changing rapidly.
"I've tried to grow them out...it feels really strange." but he had tried at least, it was something, even if not a very good attempt. So he kept them short and painted slightly at least. "I know..." well he did know he was a Pokemon, even if he didn't much look like one anymore.
"I'll try that once the tent is set up." tent first was a little more important he reasoned. The tent pole was slowly manipulated through the hole and he watched part of the tent start to take shape, and he felt a small surge of relief flooding through him. Ohhh...maybe he'd have a tent after all!
Jayme was lost in his own self loathing, tears filling his eyes when he heard that laughter. His head lifted and he looked up at Endy a few tears clinging to his eyelashes, a few having dripped down his cheeks. He was puzzled by the laughter honestly. Then the explanation came and he was staring shocked.
"You? No....you seem so cool and confident. Why would you think like that?" how utterly surprised Jayme was! He scrubbed his hand over his cheeks and eyes making sure they were all dried before he was moving back to the tent, to search for more of those small folded over seams and getting another shorter pole in, watching Endy often as he did so.
"I have never met anyone like you Endy. I'm glad you happened to come this way." very glad! It took only a little bit longer to get the tent set up and Jayme wiped his hand over his forehead to clear away the sweat. "You don't happen to know anything about starting fires do you?" he'd gotten a fire ring ready but beyond that....

While still thoroughly embarrassed to have spoken about any sort of sentimentality, the awkwardness Endymion was feeling was quick to retreat in the moment. He had hoped, once more, that his words would have fallen on less-keen ears, but once Jayme had assessed what he had said and responded in kind, the scyther felt such anxiety was really unnecessary. The teddiursa didn't judge him, was never quick to throw any labels, just to absorb what was said. With the reaction given, the taller teen gave a soft sigh, realizing the misstep he had made while also feeling the need to back up his own claim... in a less defensive manner. "Kind of like that..." he mulled aloud, elaborating, "But I suppose friends can be just as close as family, so they get the same treatment."
Thinking on it, Endymion supposed... fingernails would probably have been much, much different than the average teddiursa's claws. Maybe it was for the best this way, then... even if it was initially for much more manipulative measures. He hated to concede to that knowledge, truthfully. "Oh well... maybe you can find something that would be easier to do in your current form," he thought aloud, "Don't really know what types of moves you can learn, though." Endymion wasn't the pokémon researcher, so it wasn't really his field as much as it was the... guy he wasn't calling a trainer anymore.
Endymion nodded, accepting the terms of setting the tent up before trying to display any sort of battle prowess. Right, no need to get sidetracked. Well... any more than they already had. At least with conversation, they could keep getting the encampment set up at the same time, and the scyther had already promised to help with it. He watched as Jayme threaded the pole through the small space through the fabric of the tent, breathing a sigh of relief when it fit all the way through, "Right on, looks like it's starting to come together!" Now... how did the shorter poles fit into all of it, once the longer one was through?
It was entirely unintentional for Endymion to start laughing, especially when the awkward tenseness in the air was so thick around the both of them. He knew it was a dangerous move, but maybe it was because of the shifting perspective on the encounter that the scyther's subconscious decided it was okay to laugh at such an inopportunistic time. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he tried between the laughter, which was quick to cease when he noticed the despondency in the look Jayme passed over to him. He almost tried to right this wrong to a more positive degree until he realized that his almost offhanded explanation seemed to have been enough to absorb the worry.
Jayme may have been surprised at Endymion's explanation of his own actions, but the vocalization of this surprise seemed to have afflicted the scyther with the same. "W-What, really? I do?" he stuttered. He never thought he really acted confident... did he really seem that way on the outside? But he always thought he was messing things up! "I'm never... I don't think I've ever been confident in my life," he blinked, dumbfounded. Snickering, he followed suit and attempted to roll one of the shorter poles to another fabric-tunnel to see if the sizes matched up, "Maybe... maybe you just have to fake it, then?" Worth a shot, for both of them, and who knew? Maybe it was good advice after all...
"Heh, can't say that I've... really met anyone like you, either," he returned the sentiment, lightly scuffing his foot into the ground a bit; he tried to cover this move by scooting a more sturdy portion of the tent further upright quickly after. "It n-never hurts to have a friend," the teen stated, twitching his wings to steady balance again and using a boot as a hammer to stick one of the tent's corners into the ground. It was actually quite astounding that it was so simple to set the temporary shelter up, but then again, maybe it only was because there were two of them working on it. Seemed teamwork felt a bit rewarding.
Thinking a moment about starting a fire, Endymion was quick to come to one blunt conclusion on it, "Just don't try to do that whole... rubbing two sticks together thing. I swear, I don't know how long that's suppose to take to actually work, but most peoples' arms seem to get too tired before anything happens." Though one was also suppose to use dry sticks for that sort of thing, it was always much more difficult to locate something like that in a forest than it actually looked. Frowning, he noted that Jayme already had most of the components ready to start a fire, but he wasn't sure if the teddiursa had everything, "Do you have anything like... flint or something?" They weren't... actually going to have to attempt it with the sticks, were they?

“Friends being like family…I can understand it, and it’s a nice thing to have when you have it..and being protective of those you care about in any way is also a very understandable thing.” Jayme nodded his head with a soft smile. It was true, he wasn’t one to judge, he could accept things as they were without really looking for some hidden meaning or motive. He saw no reason to judge Endy for what he said, or did. He had his reasons, and that was all that mattered in the end.
“I don’t know either but maybe I can ask Urban, he might know, and he gets out and about more than me. It’s just becoming more and more clear to me I need to be able to stand up for myself better than I currently can. I can’t have him and Ghede protecting me forever. It’s not fair to them.”
Jayme was still staring at him like he was sort of unsure of what to make of him…that he was unsure of himself a lot he had a hard time believing. ”Fake it huh? Maybe so…is that what you do? It seems so natural and real from you.” he sounded thoughtful as he kept working on the tent…though he sat back after a few moments. “Huh….I think we got it…” he stared at the completed tent in surprise watching as the Scyther used his boots to hammer down the stakes. He looked down at his rather dainty shoes and knew he’d have never managed and would have gone rock hunting to be able to do that. “Hmm….you have the right idea there. I never would have been able to do that with my shoes.” he wiggled the foot encased by the slim shoe and chuckled softly.
“Most people have never met anyone like me Endy. I’m sort of used to that.” well it was true! Most hadn’t met a teen boy who looked, and dressed and sounded like a girl. He was just very girly looking, and soft spoken. “Oh no, not about to rub sticks together, I actually have a box of matches in my bag for that. I have the fire ring started, and some sticks and stuff…but that’s about it.”
He was at his bag and out came the long box of matches and he set those down and he then grabbed the small pile of various sized sticks and branches all having had leaves removed. “Though I should show you that whole stick and rock throwing…” and he went looking in the immediate area for a large enough stick to do damage, but not too heavy to hold same with a rock and he started with the rock throwing it with a soft grunt and while he could throw…he didn’t exactly hit the tree he’d aimed at. Instead it went a bit wide and he frowned before the stick was thrown and it glanced off the tree.
Jayme blushed and moved to gather them again. “I’ll try again…that was horrible…” he did this a few more times till the stick was connecting solidly with a nice thwack sound. That rock…it never did come near the tree though and he looked at it with a frown. “Well fine…be that way!” why yes, he was having a moment, and berating a rock. He sighed then and reached for his canteen and took a sip of the water looking at Endy with a rueful smile. “I’m horrible. I’ll go for the run and hide method it looks like.”

Endymion gave a quick, sharp nod in response to how Jayme explained with better fluency what the scyther was trying to elaborate on, "Exactly! And when you spend more time with friends than you do with any sort of blood relations, the roles tend to switch places on you anyway!" While there always seemed to be plenty of reason for the scyther to be on his guard, leave his defenses up and try to push people away, it seemed that he was quickly finding that none of those varied reasons could really be applied to the current situation at all, not with a teen as open-minded and soft-spoken as the teddiursa was. It was remarkable; Endy had never once in his life encountered a circumstance like this.
Offering a meek smile, he found himself becoming a tad more relaxed with the home life Jayme was verbally working his way through. If Urban tended to be there for the teenaged vocalist as much as it sounded like, then at least Jayme wasn't in immediate danger, at the very least. "Yeah, he'd probably know more about what moves you could learn. Be more capable of teaching you, too, I'd imagine," he agreed with a snort, "At least you seem to have the drive to learn, with reasoning like that." It was a start, if nothing else.
Fidgeting, he tried to come up with some other suggestion that sounded more plausible. However, that's how things worked for Endymion, and in all honesty, he hadn't even realized that they were working. His face tinted pink again, but he was actually kind of glad to hear that he didn't seem as outwardly pathetic as he often felt. Nodding slowly, he decided to add, "But I'm not sure it works so well for everyone, to do it that way. Hrm... maybe you should ask someone else about being more confident, gather more information about how others act that way and see what works for you?" Mulling it over, he snickered sheepishly, "Maybe someone who actually feels confident when acting that way..?" The scyther really couldn't say he thought he was a very good role model, except maybe on how to be a coward.
Idly stomping the last of the stakes down, he didn't take a glance at the tent in response to Jayme's observation on the completeness of the setup until he was sure the stake wasn't sideways under the surface. He tilted slightly as he looked the tent over, "Yeah, I think you're right." He hoped so, at least; he didn't want it coming down in a gust of wind after he'd already departed or anything! Taking a glance at Jayme's shoes once indicated, he then scanned over his own footwear before turning them back on the tent with an offhanded smirk, "Gotta be useful in something." He wanted to verify that he wasn't such a brute when it came down to it normally, but wasn't sure he could really back that claim up... not after everything that had happened in the days prior.
The scyther-teen perked when Jayme admitted to being more unique, but he wasn't sure if the teddiursa was being down on himself. Granted, he still didn't know he was actually talking to another guy... "And that's a real shame," he countered with a huff, "I think there would be a lot less problems in the world if more people were more understanding than they are now." He was completely unaware how deep that sentiment dug, in this particular case.
Oh! Matches! Even better! Endymion made his way over to the fire ring that his acquaintance had indicated, noting that it was put together... actually much more accurately than he was used to seeing. Come to think of it, how was he suppose to be helping, in this case? Did he just need to direct Jayme's actions? "Erm... you've used matches before, right?" he asked, not wanting the petite teen to burn himself attempting to use them for the first time.
After studying the campfire setup while Jayme went to locate something he could use as a projectile, Endymion turned around and stood up straight to watch the teddiursa use the forest materials as non-lethal weaponry. Or at least, that's what he had been hoping to see. While he was glad to see Jayme not give up so easily at hitting his mark, it was apparent that the skirted teen was also horribly out of practice. Or had Jayme ever really thrown something like a stick or a rock before? While a bit disappointed, more so with Jayme's concession to, well... acting like Endymion would when he was alone than with the fact he couldn't actually hit the broad side of a barn. Maybe it was for the best if he were to hide, at least before he learned any moves. The scyther mimed the sigh, but after a moment he seemed to agree, "Well, you could always use those as scare tactics, if nothing else. Hiding might be your better option; any good at that?" Endymion surely hoped Jayme was better at that!

If Jayme had known he was opening Endy's eyes up to a whole new world as it were, he'd have likely been very, very shy and unsure of himself and more so than he was usually. As it was, Endymion was showing Jayme that just maybe he shouldn't tuck his tail between his legs and run at the first sign of things not going the way he'd expected. Unexpected things...and good ones at that!...could happen.
"I'll have to ask...doesn't mean he'll be able to help but it's an idea." and not even because he wouldn't know what Jayme could learn, he might have orders from Reese not to, or else he'd lose his job. That was the last thing Jayme wanted after all. "Always wanted to learn...just never really said anything...."
"Oh okay....I can try that. Maybe Ghede...he's easy to talk to...maybe he can explain." how thoughtful Jayme looked then. Zevian was a no, and Urban...well he wasn't sure he could ever pull off acting that confident! No, the Aggron was a bad choice.
"I'm betting you're useful for a whole lot more than kicking stakes into the ground Endy!" he beamed at the other teen then, a bright smile that reached his eyes as he bent to look at the others boots. "Such cool shoes...don't go with my dresses though, but I really like them." maybe he could find boots that looked good on him? It was an idea he figured.
There was a nod at the question of the matches and he smiled. "I have! I have candles in my room, and I light them. So...this looks okay then? I wasn't sure, the only fires I've ever seen have been in movies and books so I was working off that." he seemed pleasantly surprised he'd gotten this right by sheer guesswork. "Well that's settled then. I'll just get it lit before it gets dark." that was one less worry...two if you counted the set up tent.
"I hide pretty well...well when not in a bright pink dress...but I have changes of clothes, that are greener, and darker. So that'll help with the whole hiding thing." he didn't show his hiding skills, but he was quite good at hiding from Reese, and knew this wouldn't be an issue.
He could see the others curiosity be piqued at his choice of words...and he cleared his throat with a low laugh. "I...don't know many people that are comfortable with the idea of a boy in girls clothes...but it's how I've dressed since I was first abandoned by the others..." he cleared his throat softly, looking down at his hands as he spoke. "I never meant to make people think I was a girl...it was just what I'd found...then I saw how the boys on the streets were treated compared to the girls...and it scared me...and I was afraid to tell people the truth...and as I grew up...well I've never really looked or sounded like a boy...so.." how quiet his words as he explained this to Endy, looking and sounding just like a teenage girl even as he spoke.
His head was bowed, covering his face with his hair, eyes downcast as he continued to stare at his hands, silently now, his fingers twisting together a little in nervousness. The first time he'd told someone he was a boy it had been taken well at least. Anyone else who knew had figured it out themselves. This was the second time telling someone and he was sooooo nervous. His shoulders hunched a little, as if waiting for some sort of verbal or physical assault to be hurled at him, or for Endy to just stomp away in disgust, still a painful thing. The way he was standing, it was easy to believe he was trying to make himself look small, and unnoticeable, as if he wanted to just sort of have a hole open up under him and make him vanish.

It hadn't hit Endymion consciously at the moment, but the fact that not only had the scyther released his grip on anxiety, but Jayme as well, paved the way to a more relaxed atmosphere. First impressions were always difficult, and much of the time offered rather inaccurate depictions of an individual, but the both of them seemed to be falling into a more natural role, one not garnered with the task of putting up a barrier. After all, what would either one have been trying to protect themselves from if such a block were still in place? The harmlessness wasn't a facade, but an attribute.
The pale-haired scyther shrugged, an action borne of ignorance rather than exasperation, "It's worth a shot. Is it possible that nobody's taught you any moves because they thought you might not even want to?" While he wouldn't rule it out, with someone as controlling as Reese seemed to be, it was rather unlikely that was the one and only reason. Endymion did not realize just how conniving Reese's motives could run, though.
It seemed that Jayme already had an idea of who to go to for better advice on how to be more confident. That was a good sign, the bladed teen wasn't sure he could really point to anyone in particular as a suggestion. Maybe Terpsichore, but she was a bit... tweaked in that respect. Besides, if it was someone Jayme knew, it could work more for the better, especially if the teddiursa would more likely clam up in all his nervousness around someone new. Sounds familiar... he noted with a mild sigh. At least Endymion could relate, making it easier to connect and suggest things that worked for himself, or that he had wanted to try anyway, if given the opportunity, and a mild smile emerged at the thought.
"You'd be surprised about how many things require the use of hands," Endymion retorted with a laugh, "but maybe you're right. I'd like to believe that!" It was nice to be told that he was useful, as much as he tended to believe the opposite, and his sarcasm seemed to hint at that. He was surprised when Jayme stated that he liked the scyther's boots, noting that they were a far-removed variant style than what it appeared the teddiursa liked to wear. "I'm... not sure there are many dresses that would go very well with these, no," he noted, lightly kicking a foot out to scan the footwear as well, "Do you only wear dresses?" He knew that girls didn't segregate themselves to only wearing dresses if they didn't want, but then again, he hadn't really met a boy that had a similar mindset, or tastes.
There was an almost immediate wave of relief when Jayme verified that he actually used matches all the time. Endymion had been half expecting the other teen to admit to only having them because someone insisted he use them on his solo camping trip... much like the tent, as a matter of fact. "Sounds like a good way to learn to make them," the insect pokémon stated, "It doesn't look like it'll fall down very easily, even when the base of the wood there is burned away. That will make it a lot less dangerous, especially if you're not watching it the entire time." And especially since there was so much greenery around here! "Ventilation might be a bit of a problem, I'm not sure... I've only ever really used a fire out in the open. I don't think it will be too much of one, though, especially since it's just a temporary visit," he added, though was starting to worry about how much of this was experience and how much was from what he was told -- he'd take instruction with a grain of salt.
It wasn't until Jayme had mentioned it getting dark that Endymion realized how long he must have been out here. He wasn't in a rush to get back, but bringing the time to light caused the scyther to glance at the sky; it hadn't really started to tint yellow yet, but he was pretty sure such a time wasn't too far off. He crouched down to better evaluate when the campfire was lit, but he really didn't think there was much of a need at this point. Regardless, better to be safe than sorry. Snickering, he found that he had to ask, "Camo gear for pajamas, then? Well that's as reassuring as it is strange." He kind of liked that idea...
It was all Endymion could do not to blurt out a baffled, 'Wait, you're a boy!?' but his expression probably said more than enough in that regard. He had to keep in mind that he hadn't actually called Jayme a girl -- he hadn't, right? -- and therefore the teddiursa probably didn't know that Endymion didn't know. Yeah, that works... though staring wasn't helping. He turned his attention away; while he had looked rather embarrassed and nervous about the enlightenment, his expression was more contemplative now, especially considering what he had just said moments prior. Besides, what really changed when told that Jayme was a boy? Nothing.
He had been silent longer than he had intended, but it was difficult to grasp at what exactly it was that he wanted to say. "Backed into another corner..." he observed quietly, taking into consideration that Reese probably wasn't really making it possible to act or dress any differently, even if Jayme had wanted to. "It's sick. The social norms of society, I mean. You should be able to be whoever you want to be, not abide by what everyone else wants," he growled, but sighed afterwards to signify his realization that ideals would never be enough to solve anything. Even Endymion was too used to dividing others by male and female stereotypes because he had been influenced that way, and once he realized that, he felt more disappointed in himself than in the society he had just accused. At least he was more open to the idea, but still...

Jayme looked thoughtful at the other teens suggestion as to why he maybe hadn't been taught anything. It was a (slim) possibility he knew, but not one he could fully discount in the end. "Maybe...I'll have to talk to Urban when he picks me up." it would be a few days till then, but what would a few days change in that respect? Not a whole lot honestly.
He couldn't help warming up to the Scyther teen, he seemed so easy to talk to, especially as they continued to talk. He was feeling more relaxed and it was easy to see Endy was as well and it made Jayme feel nice and warm inside that the other didn't feel like he needed to be on guard around him.
There was a warm, amused laugh at the mention of dresses and the boots. "No there very likely isn't, but still I do like your boots, and I think I could bring myself to wear them even with a dress. I've seen people wearing that look before, and while it doesn't look great, it doesn't look bad either. A matter of personal comfort I suppose. Main reason I don't wear anything with a heel." he just didn't feel steady on a thin heel. There was a shake of his head. "Once in awhile I'll wear skirts...but not often. Pants just feel strange on my legs."
His eyes lifted to the canopy of tree's, looking thoughtful. "I tried to find somewhere there wasn't a lot of branches over me so no sparks would catch anything...maybe it'd be safer not to light it though just in case." he looked thoughtfully up at the branches, as if trying to decide if they were indeed too plentiful to be safe.
"Well, more or less yeah..." he blushed some, a quiet laugh given. It was what most would consider old fashioned. It had a high neck and long sleeved and reach his ankles, but he was comfortable wearing it. It seemed this one just had a habit of hiding himself away from people.
The laugh died away at the look on Endy's face and Jayme felt as if someone had dropped a very large, very heavy block of ice in his stomach. He was staring...and looked embarassed...well it was better than another time he'd told someone...his dress had been lifted up over his head for the other to get proof. So if staring was all that was happening..... though his new friend didn't look terribly comfortable.
As the silence dragged on, Jayme had moved away from Endy, tears filling his eyes. There was a soft sniffle, and a quiet "I thank you for your help...I shouldn't keep you any longer..." yes, he was giving Endy the out the other teen seemed to be looking for. He didn't...couldn't turn to face him. The first words 'It's sick.' made him flinch and he hunched in a little as if he'd been struck. In a way he had been.
Though the further explanation had his shoulders loosening a little. Still, it was hard for Jayme to turn, to look to Endy. Tears were in his eyes, and a few had obviously fallen. They were gone but the damp tracks they left were evident. "I don't mind the dresses though. They're pretty, and comfortable...and even the few times I've dressed like a boy, I look like a girl playing dress up in boys clothes." he gave a wry smile and took a deep breath letting it out softly. "I don't see the big deal myself...but anyone I've told tends to." left him thinking he should just lock himself away in his room away from everyone, really.

Endymion couldn't help but be slightly amused by how much Jayme was coasting with the idea of learning battle-ready moves. Honestly, he didn't really see the other teen as being one to initiate any sort of damaging attack, but he wasn't going to rule it out. People were full of surprises, after all, and the teddiursa-teen wasn't an exception. "Sounds good," he agreed with a nod, "Sorry I couldn't help more with it, though." Honestly, he really hated fighting... which was probably painfully obvious with his reaction to the sight of blood.
Musing on the idea of a similar style of boot to the ones Endy was currently wearing paired with a dress, he snickered. He could imagine it, sure, but it was out of using the examples currently present; he didn't have much of an imagination as far as fashion statements were concerned. However, he could easily see this shortcoming, noting he didn't really need to imagine it to know that it was capable of working. "I'm sure you could pull it off," he decided, "Maybe the others you've seen just haven't found the right balance. You know what to look for to get it to look right? Doesn't hurt to play with the idea, especially if it's something you're interested in getting right." Blinking, he kicked the back of his boot into the ground, "Think you might be able to find something similar with a heel?" Did they even make those?
"Sharp thinking!" Endymion noted once Jayme pointed out the cleared branches up above -- he hadn't taken consideration to that, only the branches in the surrounding area. Scanning the canopies, he peered around the area again, "Yeah, then it should work more like a chimney might, I would think." He'd never actually seen a chimney in action, especially from the inside, but figured that the basic mechanics were something similar. "I didn't notice the lack of branches directly above, but you're right. I think that should be safe enough. It looks like a wide enough space for smoke to escape safely," he agreed. The shrubbery in the area looked to be a safe enough distance away from the fire circle as well, so there was no need to point that out.
There were very few instances where Endymion had ever managed to run into a previous acquaintance again, friend or not, and he didn't want to accept leave until he was sure it was on good terms. It looked as though Jayme were afraid of what the scyther really meant by his words, or what he thought but wasn't vocalizing, and Endymion realized he was caught once again in a failure to communicate in the manner he wanted. He didn't really care what Jayme liked to do, as long as it wasn't harmful, even if it wasn't a choice he himself would have necessarily made. The teddiursa was really sweet! They were friends, weren't they?
Words... They muddled his head with various strings and lines he could say in this instance. He knew that too strong of a reaction might frighten Jayme even further into closing himself up, but Endymion's temper did not always stay so serene; he had to stay purposefully mindful of that.
Especially when he noticed the tears, upon turning back.
"Ah, h-hey, you don't have to--!" ...do that. The scyther sighed, thinking that maybe Jayme did need to. Some people felt crying was a good way to work their way through the stress, right? It was just so unnerving, thinking that maybe Endy had been the one to hurt him enough to cause it, but this seemed to be a fairly touchy subject. He wasn't good at dealing with this sort of thing, so he did what he could and listened. "Then you should keep doing what makes you most comfortable, if that's what you want to," he stated contemplatively. He wanted to offer Jayme a smile, but the teddiursa seemed almost afraid to look at him at the moment; honestly, Endy couldn't blame him for that. "Who cares what others think if it's who you are, as long as you enjoy doing what you do, and dressing how you want," he stated matter-of-factly. Regardless of if Jayme was looking or not, he grinned, "Besides, it's not like I have any right to complain. I dress the way I do so people on the streets will think twice about coming up to me to chat. It's just the way we prefer to look, right? It's got nothing to do with how others think we should dress. It's just a few pieces of fabric stitched together anyway." Why were styles of clothing strictly regarded as being for a specific gender or social class? He really didn't know the answer... "Humans are just plain confusing..." the scyther sighed.

Jayme wasn't sure if he'd ever be able to use an attacking/damaging move, but the knowledge of such a move and not needing or using it was drasticaly different than not knowing it, and finding himself in a position of needing that knowledge, especially if it turned out to be a situation that could be life or death. Not that he really ever expected to be in a life or death situation but he was realizing he really needed to not rely on others to look after him. He was old enough to do that himself, after all. He gave a smile to Endy and shook his head and waved his hand in a 'No it's okay, don't worry about it!' sort of way. That he was unable to help wasn't an issue to the Teddiursa.
Jayme shifted and bent to look at Endy's boots closer, fingers hooking hair back out of the way and he gave a quiet laugh. "Maybe if it's a thick, chunky sort of heel...who knows maybe I'd gain a few inches height that way too." oh he knew he was short, it didn't bother him though really and when he straightened it was easy to see he'd been joking.
The praise given to him for noticing the thinner branches, the slightly open spot above to provide ventilation needed, oh how it warmed him, a soft blush on his cheeks. He really wasn't used to such praise. Oh sure, Urban said 'You did good kid' but he said it in an almost patronizing tone most the time. This though, felt so genuine, he couldn't help but be caught off guard. It was a nice feeling to have.
He couldn't help but thinking he was so glad to have met Endy, to have made an unexpected new friend like this, and they were friends, he just knew it!
How fast that smile, that mirth vanished from him after his little (well okay huge) admission to Endy of what he really was. How the others reaction had cut him and sent him reeling and wanting nothing more than to retreat, his face going white from sudden worry and insecurity.
He could see Endymion was at a loss on what to say or do, especially with the fact he was crying. But he was at least looking at the other teen and listening to what he had to say. A tremulous smile crept onto his face again at being told he should do what made him feel the most comfortable. It was the first time anyone had told him he could dress like this regardless of being a boy.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, his hands scrubbed at his eyes a moment to dry them, before he was of all things closing the short gap between them, and very simply wrapped his arms around the other and hugged him tightly. It was what he felt was needed in that moment. To just hug the other. To say 'It's okay. I'm okay. Thank you.' and all. So he did. After a moment, and a soft sniffle he was going up on tip toe and he pressed a kiss to the others cheek.
"Thanks Endy. I'm so glad I met you." the words were soft, and spoken against an ear, but they were very heartfelt regardless of the loudness of the words. Jayme pulled away a blush on his face. That had been a spur of the moment thing, and it was also a first. He'd never kissed anyone before, even on the cheek! He cleared his throat softly, looking about the same color as his dress then.

It was apparent that Jayme didn't seem to mind that Endymion couldn't help in learning a new move to aid in self-preservation -- and most likely for the best. However, the partially-armored teen couldn't help but think that there must be something he could do. There wasn't... and the more he reflected, the more that was obvious. He had barely managed to teach himself anything new, at least without outside aid, and he hadn't exactly been very helpful when the other pokémon he had traveled with wanted to learn something new. Okay... there was the one time, when Margarita learned Disable on the spur of the moment and used Endymion as a test subject for its properties. With an idle sigh, he admitted that he deserved that one...
That was an interesting way the other teen was describing the style of a boot. He was pretty sure it was probably a normal term, to call a boot 'chunky', but it was unfamiliar to the scyther. It was enough to knock a snicker out of him, refocusing his attention away from past events. "What, don't like being that short?" he teased. Truthfully, though, there was only about four inches difference in height between the two of them, and Endy had always thought he was more on the tall side.
He could tell that Jayme was loosening back up, after tensing throughout admitting such a complicated secret and the subsequent... stupid reaction the scyther offered in return. That was good, he wasn't sure if the words that had tumbled out of his mouth in his scramble to fix what he may have broken would have been enough, whether they would fall on deafened ears out of fear. He spoke the truth, but he hadn't been sure how sincerely he sounded about it, considering whether it only appeared he was grasping at excuses to stop the tears. He wasn't, but that was also a welcome outcome.
While Endymion wasn't the most adept at accurately taking note of how different individuals reacted, being able to pinpoint areas of behavior that he was all too familiar with in his own psyche was a different story. Very gradually, cautiously, his own anxiety levels lowered again in step; he hoped that the state of apprehension in this encounter would stay toned down to this volume now, as he didn't see himself as being the best at negotiating out a friendly atmosphere, unsure if he would be able to accomplish it again. While he didn't particularly like the uneasiness, it seemed to do even worse for Jayme, and he didn't want that circumstance to come into play. The mind was a fragile thing, and he had no intention of harming a friend, physically nor mentally.
He flinched when Jayme grabbed a hold of his arm, but outside of that initial shock factor, didn't pull away. Jayme needed the comfort, and it wasn't harming anyone to be there for him. Lightly, he patted the teen on the shoulder, careful not to cause damage even if Endymion ended up startling Jayme with the action, "It's okay." Of course, the scyther wasn't used to so much contact, so after a second or two, his nervousness ended up locating his voice, "I don't mean to offend, but even after you told me all that, it's still hard not to think of you as a girl. N-Not that that's a bad thing! It's just that it... it's kind of weird, to be honest." He snickered, feeling like he was probably only making things more awkward by the fact he couldn't shut up. "I've... actually come to like weird," he quickly added.
However, the kiss he was given was enough to jolt his voice into silence. That... was entirely unexpected. That had never happened before. His wings stiffened in reaction, unsure as to how he was suppose to respond to an action like that; not only was it Jayme's first kiss, but Endymion's as well! Maybe... maybe he didn't really need to think too hard on it. It took a moment for Jayme's words to register in the scyther's mind, but it seemed to be a rather innocent move on the teddiursa's part. In fact, Jayme appeared to not know what he was suppose to do after enacting the kiss, either! Once the petite teen had nervously pulled away, Endymion noted the locked nature of his nerves and consciously loosened them. A soft smile appeared across his face, finding the whole thing rather amusing, despite himself, trying to quietly stifle the snicker that appeared out of the absurdity of both of their reactions to the act. Although it was harmless, it seemed that neither of them knew how to respond to it, and that thought was strangely hilarious to the teenaged scyther. "I'm glad I met you as well. We'll have to meet up again sometime! Maybe when we both stop thinking the other person is going to get angry or scared or something," he pointed out, a roundabout way of letting Jayme know that he was feeling none of that about the situation, or encounter in general.

It was true, Jayme didn't mind that Endymion was unable to help with learning any moves, besides with the sun showing signs of setting now wouldn't have been a very good time anyhow, much too dangerous to learn by a campfire he figured. He'd figure it out either from Urban or that one friend he'd met that one time...Can or something. It'd been a hurried introduction and he hadn't seen the other teen since though Urban did talk about him on occasion. It would just take broaching the subject with Urban in the end.
The snicker from Endy made him smile, and he gave a low laugh. "I'm sort of used to it. I'm the shortest one at the club. It used to be Ghede, but he had a growth spurt recently, and he's even taller than Urban who's...well really tall. I forget how tall but close to seven feet." so really, he himself was quite tiny compared to those two! "You're a nice height, really. Not too tall and not short like me." he was a normal height he knew, but one could develop a mock complex around so many tall folks!
Endy needn't have feared Jayme thinking he was being insincere in his word, or that it would be thought he was merely looking, desperately, for a way to halt those tears. No, relief had flooded through the feminine male that the other wasn't at all disgusted by him and that he hadn't lost his newly acquired friendship with the Scyther. As Endy relaxed, Jayme relaxed...though he didn't realize that as he was relaxing, so too was the other teen. Funny how that worked really.
If Jayme had seen the flinch he'd have felt bad, so it was probably in everyone's best interest he missed it entirely. The pat to his shoulder while unexpected, didn't actually make him jump or anything, the reassuring gesture from the other was just that and it brought a smile to his lips. But oh how Jayme suddenly giggled, much like a teen girl and he shook his head curls bouncing. "I don't mind if you think of me as a girl. I know I look and sound like one, so I think dressing like one works for me really. I'd never be able to pull off something like what you're wearing. It looks good on you, and makes you look very masculine. I'd look silly trying to wear something like that." at least he was aware of his fashion limits. He couldn't help a grin at the whole being called weird and Endy saying he'd started to like weird. It made him blush but in a good way honestly.
"Sorry I didn't mean to surprise you. Surprised myself too...that was a first for me." he explained quietly, but honestly, looking sort of sheepish really all things considered. Endy was a really nice guy and he was very glad to have met him. Looking at the taller teen he felt an odd flutter in his stomach and he looked away again with a slightly deeper blush. He had no experience with such things to understand he was developing a crush on Endy...or had developed one. It was hard to know for sure. Still that odd but nice warm fluttery feeling was there at the moment.
"Can we keep in touch? I can give you the address of the club. I think I have paper in my bag..." the Teddiursa teen went to his bag and did locate a small pad of paper and the pen he'd brought along not knowing if it would be needed and he jotted down the means for the other teen to contact him should he ever feel the desire to do so. He wrote it all down in a neat flowing script, and came back with it in hand.
"I don't want you to get lost in the dark, so unless you plan on staying the night here at the campsite, I should let you continue onto where you'd been going when you got stopped." it wasn't that he wanted Endy to leave, but he understood staying was probably not in his best interest.

Endymion flinched at the thought of a kid hitting a growth spurt so extreme. This Ghede kid went from being shorter than Jayme to being almost seven feet tall? He visibly cringed, "Those growing pains must have been some of the worst!" He'd never heard of so drastic a change before! Maybe he'd have expected it from child to adult, but... Well, they were all pokémon, right? Suppose, under such jurisdiction, such a change was not all that unusual after all. In fact, he actually felt kind of relieved when Jayme considered that Endy wasn't more on the tall side. That would mean he wouldn't stick out so much in public, at least any more than was normal for one carrying around weaponry fused to their wrists.
Jayme's giggling, quickly followed by the reassurance that it was quite alright for Endy to take outside appearances as they came at the moment, was enough to lend relief of any apprehension over his social inadequacy. He smiled in reaction to it all. It seemed the both of them, in becoming more comfortable with the situation and less cautious around one another, were able to let more empathic senses take control. It wasn't every day that Endymion could react in a purely unhindered state, especially so soon after such awkward conversational topics. "I still hate to think of you as something you're not..." he attempted to explain, biting at his lip a little in the brief pause, "...but if it's alright, I suppose I could let it go. If it's a secret, it's safe with me, honest." He was unsure how to take the compliment about his clothing preference, however, being unfamiliar with such sentiments being vocalized. Or, really, at being considered something other than a pokémon or temperamental child. "Th-Thanks," he attempted, feeling particularly glad that he could bury and hide the flush that appeared across his face in the collar of his jacket.
"First for you? Really?" he blurted out the question before he had time to think about stopping himself. Maybe it shouldn't have been so surprising, with how modest Jayme tended to act, but... Endy could even admit that Jayme was really pretty. He read the teddiursa's reaction, turning quickly away, as an action spurred purely out of embarrassment; he was quite fully naive to the entire notion of a crush. "That was... actually a first for me as well," he admitted after a moment in an attempt to keep Jayme from feeling too self-conscious.
Regardless, he was happy to accept the teddiursa's invitation to visit, and replied in kind, "But of course! I'd love that." Never mind that he could hardly read, was terrified of going into town, and was uncomfortable about the thought of running into Reese... He could always get Terpsichore's help to read it, and work up the courage for everything else. Such a coward... he sighed to himself as he carefully grabbed the contact information by pinching it between the blade and his forearm. "Thank you, I'll be sure to visit when I can!" he grinned. The least he could do was check up on Jayme, make sure he's safe. Maybe with that thought in the forefront of his mind, it would make visiting more plausible.
He took a scouring glance around the campsite once more, making sure everything was in place so that Jayme wouldn't likely have any further problems. As much as staying and keeping the teddiursa company sounded like fun, it was true. If Terpsichore hadn't insisted on tagging along with him, there wouldn't have been any issues, but she was waiting for him to clear his head. He didn't want to worry her more than he already had. He frowned, grimacing lightly with a sigh, "Yeah, I should get going... But hey, it was nice meeting you. Hope to see you again soon!" This brief meeting probably did more good than Endymion could fathom through his current predicament, but the notion was still evident; he just needed to work a bit harder on it all.
