Hm. It seemed the door had been telling the truth. Displaying more vitality than he had since he'd had his neck snapped, Westus bounded up a number of steps as raucously as he could, stopping about a fifth of the way to the top and jumping up and down on the wobbling step. Nope. No sound, not even the intoxicating whisper of The Voice. Nothing. Like him. He continued on, humming a tuneless melody no one could hear. The click of heels against hard steps was enough to keep her mind filled for only a few moments. By the end of the tenth step, the fragment had grown frustrated, and had begun to monologue dictionary terms and fun, but utterly useless, medical facts. After the fifteenth step, she bent and unhooked her shoes, and without preamble, tossed them over her shoulder and away from herself.
If it hit someone on the way down... well, that was their problem.

There was nothing else for them to do now. Simply continue their way towards the top. Following and lead the steps that many will follow.
Once again, as the voice spoke to them. Keel didn't bother listening. They simply allow their legs to carry them onwards, past the 100 flights of stairs. The Voice was simply ignored.

Another good thing about being a fragment: your legs didn't get tired. Or at least his didn't. Westus continued his climb, moving slower than some and quicker than others. He saw people he thought he knew, but the closer he got, the less familiar they became. He briefly wished he'd asked the pillars for some gunpowder before he realized he wouldn't be able to hear his bombs now anyway. Pity. He jerked to a stop when he finally heard something. It sounded like the click of a... microphone? What was a microphone? You dare take the powers of the others, when I created you, gave you purpose, and promised you a Kingdom.... While Gilly kept walking, she noticed there was no noise at all, except for the thoughts in her head. She looked at the others making their way up the steps. Even their footsteps, she couldn't hear. She looked around to see if anyone could hear her.

The girl scowled as she continued higher and higher. She wasn't sure why there were stairs of all things here. In a world like this where the Voice seemed to create just about anything it pleased, she found it quite ridiculous that it couldn't wish up a fragment of an elevator or something. The girl felt her foot hook on a stair and stumbled.
Hell, even an escalator would do about now.

It didn't seem like anyone was focused on anything else but climbing the stairs. One after another, Gilly plodded on. She hoped to herself that, at least, at then end of everything, she'd be able to serve everyone noodles again.
