The Pikachu agreed eagerly. Running around and playing in the city was sort of like an adventure - or at least, she thought it was - so getting to run and play somewhere else would be even better! When Treestar made motions of heading towards Duncan, however, Iona's ears drooped slightly and she sat back onto her hindquarters. she said quickly.

Instead of lingering on the compliment, pleasant though it was, if Brey had a question, Abigail was obligated to answer. Or, at least, she thought she was. "Of course," the former breeder replied brightly, and looked ready for whatever the girl's question was.

Treestar was going to trot on over there anyway apparently. Pausing mid-step to look back at the Pikachu with a smile.
<> He replied brightly. <>
The Chikorita wasn't sure is that /was/ old, but it was a 'two-part' number and 'two part' numbers were 'big'... Like 'seven'. Duncan must be older than 'seven', whenever that was... He was pretty sure.
He cleared his throat as he trotted toward the Lopunny.

"Um. Well. You mentioned maybe... about pokémon liking being what they are. I guess. Mine that have evolved... they just did it on their own and I have no idea how they knew what to do or anything... But one I didn't have since he was /that/ young and, uh, I, well... The other is my Pidgeotto and I think her mother... just explained a lot. Somehow." Tambrey seemed embarrassed to be asking about it, a little. "Did you... ever sit down and, like, explain evolution to one of yours? Would you think that a good idea?"

She trailed off as Treestar began heading towards Duncan anyway, though the Pikachu didn't follow.

Before Treestar could travel too far from Iona, however, a voice suddenly interjected in bass tones, Duncan was giving the grass-type an irritable sidelong glance that clearly said he was not in the mood to deal with younglings at all.

The woman frowned thoughtfully at this, but after a brief moment, shook her head. "I don't know that if you did have a talk with one of your pokemon, if they would fully understand it. A psychic type, perhaps, but anything else, probably not," she explained, folding her hands in front of her again. "I think most of them know what evolution is regardless, sort of like an instinctual thing rather than learned. I don't know if that's the case, but it certainly seems like it. If not, keeping him around other pokemon who have the ability to evolve would probably be a good idea. Especially ones you think will evolve soon." She paused uncertainly before she added, "Does that make sense?"

Treestar stopped in his tracks and gazed in awe at the rabbit when he spoke. That voice was unnerving but... he was being /nice/. He was sure if the Lopunny realised that he wouldn't mind.
<> He looked back at Iona and smiled. See, this was a nice thing.

Tambrey nodded. "That... does." She admitted. "I don't know what... I mean. I think my theory was something along the lines of... Well, you know they seem to be /properly/ listening sometimes and I know that's not exactly scientific but maybe... I think it might just be helpful somehow." She resisted the urge to shrug a little. "It... does sound a pretty silly thing to say out loud."
Did she have any pokémon who might evolve soon? Come to think of it... Possibly. "Hey, um. He did meet an evolved form of his species once. I was never sure if he /knew/ that though... Um, what or where... Sorry." How was a good way to ask it? "I'm sort of tryin' to ask about your pokémon evolving... The hows and whens and wheres and such, but I was having a little trouble with the words... Um, sometimes I ramble."

Duncan's long ears flattened against his back when the Chikorita obviously didn't get his blatant hint. Instead of replying again, the Lopunny simply sighed heavily and slipped off the bridge to land on the ground below, despite the height. Iona's ears merely drooped a bit as she sighed. She told him that he wouldn't want to talk.

"Oh, um," Abigail paused, trying to wrack her brains about all of hers evolutions. "Well, I know Duncan evolved right after my daughter was born. Umm.. His mate evolved very shortly after I got her, which was surprising... My Togepi evolved... Actually I don't think anything very significant happened around then, it was just a normal day if I recall, and I bought a stone to evolve him again.. And really that's it," she offered with a shrug. "I haven't actually kept too many to observe their evolutions, since I was a breeder as a business and not a hobby."

Treestar's eyes widened as the Lopunny left the walkway and he ran over to the edge to see where Duncan might have gone.
<> Treestar tilted his head, still looking down, assuming the rabbit hadn't gone 'splat'. <> He looked back at Iona. <>

"Well. It's still helpful." Tambrey offered, smiling. "Thanks. 'S just been playing on my mind a bit lately. I wasn't sure if I was doin' something wrong. I only had one pokémon for... such a long time. And she's /never/ evolved. I'm pretty sure she /actually/ can't... Her daughter did though. 'S a bit confusing." She looked over to see what Treestar was up to.
Blink. Two pokémon.
"Hey. Uh. Wasn't... Duncan sitting there a moment ago?"

Iona's ears twitched back, and she offered Treestar a shrug as she moved to join him near the edge of the bridge. she explained as she gestured vaguely with one paw.

"No, I don't think you're doing anything wrong," the former breeder said with a warm smile and a shake of her head. "I know what you mean though; I just had Cameron for a good five or so years, I think, before I got Duncan."

...speaking of.

At Brey's question, Abigail half-turned to see where the Lopunny was. When he obviously wasn't on the bridge, she leaned a bit over the bridge - not much - but didn't see him still. So... "Duncan?" She called out in a calm voice, and the Lopunny's upper half suddenly appeared from under the bridge, his face turned up at her. She offered him a wave, he disappeared again, and she turned back to Brey with a smile. "He was, but he's fine. He does that sometimes when he, ah, would rather be alone. He gets depressed sometimes, I'm afraid," she explained. It always made her feel bad, since it all stemmed from Nessa's theft, but there really wasn't much she could do for him anymore.

Treestar blinked and twitched his leaf around. He knew what a 'son' was, mostly through explanations that Palu had given to Pygi about how 'daughter' worked and 'what if Pygi had been a boy?'; Pygi had been happy enough to pass those on and explain quite a bit about how she thought the world worked.
<> Well, he /did/ spend time with his son and family was important, apparently (he kind of assumed 'family' was like the pokémon he shared his trainer with- and that's what Pygi had said anyway) so that was still 'nice', even if the rabbit didn't seem 'friendly'. <> Treestar frowned and then smiled brightly again toward the end. <> He waved his leaf.

She had a smile for the reply to what she told, but it had to change somewhat sadder, apologetic, for the recognition of what she was told about Duncan.
"Ah." Tambrey nodded. She understood. "Sorry."

Whether Duncan heard Treestar's goodbye or not, he gave absolutely no indication. In fact, he was still hiding out of sight of the pair.

The Pikachu waited a bit to see if the Lopunny would reply, but he didn't, so she shrugged again. she informed Treestar as she flopped down onto her rump.

Abigail merely smiled again and shook her head. "No, don't apologize; it isn't your fault, after all." It was her own fault, anyway. It suddenly struck her, though, that they'd sort of hit a natural end to the conversation, and that Brey might've been heading somewhere. "Oh, was there anything else you wanted to ask? I don't want to hold you up if you've got places to be." Young people usually did these days, after all.

<< Well... That's okay.>> Treestar decided with a firm little nod <> He turned back to look at Iona and smile, his leaf moving back and forth. <>

Tambrey smiled, but, of course, felt a little awkward about being told it wasn't her fault; that was quite true- it had happened long before she'd even joined the Team, but still, here was someone who had been affected by the sorts of things that she and her teammates had to do.
"Erm. To be honest 'm just wandering and looking at the old haunts," Tambrey shook herself from such thoughts with the admission. "Umm, no... I mean, I don't think so; your answers are very helpful though, thank you- I'm sorry if they've been a little, uh, random... I was at school here f'r a time; came back to work out what to do about some stuff I've still got stored here and decided t' have a walk."

Iona nodded in agreement, but the mention of games made her jump to all fours in excitement. love to play games! Hide and seek is my favorite. What's yours?>

"Oh, that's nice," Abigail said with a warm smile. "I did that myself a few months ago, actually." When she was in Grand Ile for a few weeks, visiting her parents and looking for housing. She was kind of glad she'd moved here instead, though. "There's no need to apologize! They were all valid questions," the former breeder said with a nod. "I'm sorry if I wasn't too helpful; you could probably find out a lot more from a few books." She was a big fan of books.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 12, 2013 1:55 am

<< I know that one!>> Treestar called happily, then placed his leaf in front of his face and peeked around it. <> He waved his leaf around <>

Tambrey smiled. She guessed it would seem nice. Most of the memories here were not very fond, though the walk had a yielded a few more pleasant ones among the unpleasant that she hadn't known were there.
"Some of it was tidying." Tambrey admitted and then grinned slightly at the book comment. "Most of that tidying was books. Um. D'you have any you could recommend? I kind 'f have a lot of books but, uh, I really never mind getting more."

The Pikachu spun in a circle excitedly. she twitched her light-laden tail,

The former breeder looked vaguely surprised at the request, but it morphed into a smile just as quickly, and she pulled out a notepad and a pen from her purse. "Of course," she began as she flipped to an empty page and began writing. "I don't remember all of the books I used and all of the ones I had, but I do recall a few off the top of my head..." The woman trailed off as she wrote, concentrating on her task for a few more moments before she ripped the page off and offered it to Brey with a bright smile.

The offered piece of paper contained a list of what were obviously titles (some with authors), and on the bottom a few different authors, supposedly ones who wrote mainly on the subject and whose various books Abigail couldn't recall. "I'm sure some of the books I listed have more recent editions -- most of mine I got probably ten or fifteen years ago now."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 28, 2013 10:54 am

<< Oh! Yes! I guess so... We're not in forests all that much though. Well, not enough for playing anyway. It's not so useful in a desert or in buildings, usually, but I certainly like having it anyway.>> Treestar found himself admitted, bouncing on his stubby legs a little as he watched the Pikachu spin in a circle. <see it. And I'll be right behind it. But then I get impatient, so I flick it up and go 'BOO!'>> It might have been the excitement of talking about the game, but the Chikorita's voice became a lot more energetic too.

"Ooh, thank you. No, that's absolutely fine. Just having this list is good." Tambrey was enthusiastic as she took the list and immediately started reading it, her lips moving slightly, even before she spoke to thank Abigail, and again afterward, almost as though she was trying to remember the whole list already. She'd read it twice, quickly, before she put it away, nodding slightly as Abigail mentioned more recent editions.
"Um, thanks so much. Maybe, but I don't think they'll be hard to find. I... really, really like to read, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this, whichever editions I manage to find." The subject books seemed to have turned her almost a little 'bubbly'.

Iona repeated, her head canting to one side in her curiosity. She knew what buildings were, of course, but she'd never been out of the forest her whole life to know what any other area was or looked like.

Abigail was quite happy to see Brey so excited over the meager list she'd given her, and she smiled as she replaced the pen and paper. "I'm very glad to help," she said earnestly, "and you're quite welcome! I hope those help you as much as they helped me; I referred only to books back then because the internet wasn't prevalent, of course." She wasn't that old, though, despite such a fact. "The list of book names at the top though are the ones that were most helpful to me, especially the first few," which might've been obvious since those were the first few titles she'd written and probably came to mind first for such a reason.
