==Cecily, Alone== Cecily was lonely. This wasn’t altogether uncommon for the little Celebi, but today her loneliness was coupled with boredom – being all alone wasn’t much fun at the best of times, but when there was so little to do without a playmate along to keep company with, there was even less that was amusing. Where had all of the other pokémon gone? Had they all been captured by trainers? Had they simply moved away – left her alone like – like... no. Of course not - she was just being silly. Cecily laughed weakly, then decided that if there weren’t any friends here, then she was going to go find them! With that thought in mind, the little pink Celebi climbed out of the knothole she lived in and flew deeper into the depths of the forest. Maybe if she went somewhere that she had never been before, she might find another pokémon to be her friend and play with her! Yes, this was clearly the best plan ever! Cecily pumped a small fist to cheer herself on, and then flew on. She flew for what felt like ages, seeking and seeking but never finding so much as one other pokémon to play with! Where could they all be? Cecily stopped to rest by a section of the river where the water had formed a little pocket, a place where the water was still rather than flowing, and took a seat on a wide, flat rock. She hummed a tune to herself and kicked her feet, slinking down to the edge of the water. Here now, what was this? There was another Celebi peering back at her! For a moment, she thought it was – but no, this one was pink, like her! It even had big green eyes like she did! Cecily lifted a hand to wave at her counterpart, and let out a surprised giggle when it did the same. Did the other Celebi want to play with her? She reached a hand out, trying to take the other pokémon’s hand… but it only touched water, sinking in with a tiny splash. The pink image rippled, a wave spreading out over the surface and disrupting the form in the water. Crying out, Cecily reached with both hands this time, slapping at the water with a distressed “Biiiii!”Unfortunately, all this did was to shatter the image completely, making it obvious that the image in the water was just that – an image, a reflection of Cecily herself, and not someone to play with. Not her b—not him. Sniffling now, Cecily flew back to her rock and sat down to have herself a good cry. She didn’t want to be alone like this. She didn’t want to be alone at all! She wanted – she wanted something she couldn’t have. Maybe... maybe it would get better? It certainly couldn’t get any worse, so… maybe... someday... Still, she looked over at the river, at the place where her reflection had been – where it would be, if she went back to it – and couldn’t help but sniffle again. Stupid water; stupid, stupid water. It shouldn’t have taunted her like that! It should just go away! Go away and leave her alone! She didn’t need it, not any more than she needed company! No, she was just fine on her own. She’d show the river. She’d show everyone! Word count: 562

==Wish Upon a Star== It was nighttime, and the forest was quiet. Well, as quiet as the forest ever was. Cecily curled up in her tree-hollow nest, tugging her blanket close to her as she shivered. The nights were cold, even with her little blanket to help warm her up. It had been warmer... before. Before her brother vanished. Before he'd left her. And now, now that her thoughts had drifted to the sibling she didn't want to admit she still longed for, the pink celebi didn't have any hope of getting back to sleep. So with a tiny sigh, she took her cloud-patterned blanket in her stubby hands and climbed out of her tree hollow. She took a seat on her favorite branch and wrapped the blanket over her shoulders with a sad little "Biii..." It was only colder out here. In the darkness, the trees looked like great creatures, giant humans here to capture her, to take her away to wherever - wherever they had taken him when he'd gone away before. Tears welled up in Cecily's eyes, and she clutched the blanket to her more tightly than before. She didn't like this. She was all alone, her brother was gone - he was with humans, scary humans! -, she was scared and sad and hungry all the time, and - and she just wished it would get better. And, as if in response to her wish, something fell down, down, down out of the sky, coming to rest at the base of her tree. It landed with a small 'poff', and lay on the ground, glinting brightly in the starlight. Dashing tears from her eyes with her blankie, Cecily stared down at the shiny thing, then decided to fly down from her branch to investigate it. Landing next to it, she noticed that it was something... small, and star-shaped... With a little gasp, she looked up into the sky, and then back to the star. Was it a real star? Had it fallen from the sky? Did it mean her wish was going to come true? Or - or did it mean it never would, because it had landed on the ground instead of going wherever fallen stars were supposed to go? Setting the blanket down and taking a seat on it, Cecily reached out ad tapped the star with one hand, pulling back almost instantly in case it was hot or dangerous. Nothing happened. More curious, now, Cecily reached out again, and this time picked up the star with both hands and held it close to her. Whether it was a good sign or a bad one, it really was quite... pretty... She was unconscious before she even knew what had happened to her. Word Count:453

==A Scrap of Paper== Found tucked in the edge of Cecily's blanket is a small, ragged piece of paper that looks like it came out of someone's old drawing book. Scribbled on it in the shaky handwriting of someone who has been teaching herself to read and write, is a brief note. 'I donnt want too be alon aneemoar. Amm I bad cus I gott scarrd? My brothher didnt want me unlss I wanned watt he wanned he gott bettr sisster.
Meis nice tho so thatss ok.
...
...I think Imm badd.
Imm sorree.'At the bottom of the note is a simplistic drawing of a sad face.

==Life Goes On== Cecily hadn't wanted the transformation that came with the star. She no longer fit in her knothole, after all, and the little baby blanket that had been warm and snuggly wasn't even big enough to cover her legs any more. She hadn't asked to be too big to fly, or to have to find clothes, or to speak like the humans that had always scared her so much. She hadn't wanted to stand up and feel the world tilt away underneath her, the ground so much farther than it should be when simply standing. She hadn't expected to be so heavy she fell out of trees, or that her favorite branches sometimes couldn't hold her any longer. But then she hadn't asked to be alone and sad either, and these long legs could carry her farther than her wings could have before - she had even begun to meet new people because of them! People that made the hole in her heart ease a little, though the shiny celebi had begun to suspect it would never fully heal. Phee was certainly nice, and her house was nice and warm when it grew cold. Mei, for all her association with Brennan (who Cecily still wasn't sure she wanted to see, and who she was sure didn't actually want to see her either) was a sweetheart. Swimming was also much more fun when you weren't smaller than even the tiniest of waves - when they broke over you instead of sweeping you along like a tiny bit of driftwood. She was better at doing things with her hands, too - writing and drawing pictures, when she could get paper, and making little stick-dolls that she could play with. The dolls weren't as much fun as real playmates, of course, but they were hers. Playing with them was nice when she was very lonely, was was climbing trees. Sure, she couldn't fly from branch to branch any more, but there was something fun about the effort involved in testing a branch and hoisting herself up, again and again and again until she had gone as high as she could risk it. Cecily hadn't asked for hair that tangled or fingernails that ripped and scratched; she hadn't asked for feet that got cold or sore or blistered if she ran around barefoot for too long. She certainly hadn't asked for the danger of falling. But... she hadn't asked for a lot of things, and had ended up with them regardless. And if she was going to keep getting handed things she didn't want, then maybe she would just have to make the best of it. After all, she hadn't wanted the transformation she had experienced, gifted by that falling star. She hadn't wanted it, she hadn't wanted to deal with it, and she certainly hadn't wanted things to change from the once seemingly-eternal, quiet life she and Brennan had once had, alone in the forest as simple (if special) pokémon. But now, she was beginning to think that, wanted or not, finding that star might just have been the best thing that could have ever happened to her. It may have been, after all, the first step in putting her life to rights once more. Word Count: 544
