Every thought in her head says to resist the temptation. To stay where it's safe. But she takes his hand anyway. She trusts him, and isn't quite sure why. But then again, she's got no reason to not trust him. He's been far kinder to her than her mother ever has been, and she trusts her mother implicitly.
Mnemo planned to hold him to his word about not going far from her hidey-hole. She looked over her shoulder, then a quick glance ahead. She had many hidey-holes in this area actually, but that one was her safest one.
Relaxing a bit as she listens, she smiles hearing of his brother. She knows only of the concept of siblings because Lethe has told her that she's glad Mnemo didn't have any. She also knew some things from the Aquatl fairies that would visit her. They told her about what families are and that she was Lethe's daughter.
"What is your brother like? Is he like you, too?"
Holding his hand, she feels that warm, happy feeling again. She isn't sure if she should let her guard down, but she wants to. "Anxo, want to hear a secret?"

Anxo nods. "He looks just like me. Wings and fins and goofy legs and all. His name is Dysmas." He smiles and keeps wiggling backward with her. "We're fairly similar in personality too. Born to explore." He grins. "Obviously I'm the better-looking one, though," he jokes, waggling his eyebrows.
His expression softens at her next question. "You can tell me anything," he says gently. "I promise I'll keep it."

Mnemo giggles at Anxo's change in demeanor. She wasn't sure what it was, but she liked the playfulness. "If you say so. I'd like to meet him too, sometime," she teased.
She stopped momentarily and looked around in the water, paying particular attention towards the temple. She motioned for him to move closer so she could whisper. "Sometimes, I sneak off to the temple to watch the Naiads." she quickly covered her mouth as if she said the most scandalous thing.

Anxo smiles. "I can't say I blame you. The temple is very beautiful." He bumps his forehead against hers affectionately, with a bit of a blush. "What if we...snuck off there now? We can watch the Naiads together. I bet you know all the best hiding spots." He was so beating Dysmas the next time they played hide-and-go-seek.

Mnemo's eye lit up. He was so nice, she couldn't believe it, and he was willing to share in her secret. She nodded and took his hand, "Okay. I like to watch the normal Naiads, and sometimes, imagine myself as one. Someday, being a regal Lady in the court and having friends and a purpose.'
She led Anxo towards the bright lights of the temple. "Careful though, there are guards all over, and Lethe might see us. She lives in the temple."
Remembering what Anxo said about his dad, Mnemo inquired further. "Your dad lives in the temple too. Is he a guard?"

Anxo nods, understanding. He squeezes her hand softly. "I think about being a normal Naiad too," he confesses with a little sideways smile.
He can't believe she'd been out here all alone, for all this time, he ponders as they swim toward the temple. It seemed so lonely. He's glad he found Mnemo...a new friend.
"Hm? Oh, no, he's a...well...I'm not sure what he does. Actually I'm not even sure he knows what he does. But my father's father is a guard," he says, nodding. "I haven't met him yet, but I will soon. Papa says that his father is very busy, and he wants to wait for just the right time to introduce him to Dysmas and me." He nods sagely. "Papa's always been proud of both of us."

Mnemo was too excited for her new friend to let herself dwell on unhappy thoughts, like what it would be like to have a parent be proud of her. Lethe had only ever showed her shame.
"Would your father or father's father be upset to find you here, with me?" she asked, not because of sadness on her part, but because she was concerned she'd get her new friend in trouble. She waited to find out, before offering to show him something extra special she found in the palace.
The only privacy allotted in the palace was in private apartments, the throne room and the kitchen, otherwise the palace was very open, with massive columns every few yards instead of walls. The columns glowed brilliantly to provide light for the deeper depths. Lethe had pulled her friend so they could hide behind one before deciding where to go.

"I can't imagine why we would get in trouble," he answers with a bit of a shrug. "We live here. The palace is open to all Naiads, and we're Naiads too. Even if we don't look like everyone else. We breathe water just as well as anyone else. Nobody else can do that, and if that doesn't make us Naiads I dunno what would." But he can see that she doesn't want to be seen, so he continues, "But being sneaky is more fun, and it makes for less questions. Father always told me and Dysmas to stay out of the palace, but I think it's because he doesn't want kids to get in the way of everyone doing their palace business. So as long as we don't bother anyone we should be fine." He smiles cheerily.
