Nkosazana wanted to reach over and pat the poor thing, honestly. Whenever she heard his nervous laugh, her heart went out to him. He was very obviously a rather shy man, someone who wasn't as fond of being around people as she was, and honestly she could respect that, but there was something in her that wished she could do something for him, perhaps lift his spirits a bit and make him less prone to hiding behind his plants.

So she offered him one of her cookies. Considering how much of her baking stock she tended to eat herself on occasion, it was likely no harm to spread a little bit of the wealth over to David as well.

"I like remaining unchewed myself." She picked up one of her cookies herself, deciding that she would like some sweets too now that she was thinking about it... "I'd rather be chewing! Cookies of course. Mm~" Her eyes closed for a moment as she enjoyed the taste of the cookie on her tongue, before she swallowed it down, placing the cookie on her personal table behind her display.

Something in David seemed a bit alarmed, and that much was confirmed when he commented that there was some kind of terrible secret in the Observatory. With a woman? Her eyes widened a tad. Who would hide a woman as a terrible secret in the Observatory? Her eyes flicked up to the tower, attempting to find the Observatory, before she looked back down, over at David. "Really? That's rather alarming... Why would anyone do that?"

She shook her head. "Things seem uneasy these days, ever since the old king died. I hope nothing too odd's going on ... Hm?" What was David looking at? She followed his gaze to the person he waved at, before looking back to him as he seemed to uneasily settle and obsess over his garden-grown herbs. "Do you know that woman?" Her grin widened. "Are you finally trying to meet others, you dirty dog?"

Nkosazana couldn't possibly imagine that was the case, but it was certainly fun to tease.

The bustles and noise of Market Day carried on around Olivia as she hummed to herself, getting her cart of wares ready for the long day ahead. The pale girl carefully hung a few more shirts on the line she had extended between two of the poles of her booth, showing off the tailoring and construction of the clothing she had made specially for today. They were simple, as what was expected of those that inhabited the Silver Kingdom, but that didn't mean she wouldn't make them with pride - and even maybe sneak in something a little fancy here and there like an embroidered trim or a fancy looking scarf.

After a simple pat to flake off the dust from a shawl, Olivia turned herself back towards the open market where the movement of people seemed non-stop. Though a tune was on her breathe and her bright blue eyes were down turned to tend to her items, her ears were open to any bits of gossip that could cross her path. She was a quiet creature by choice but that didn't mean she didn't listen, and listen was what she really did best.

"... collapse of our kingdom would create a power vacuum for the other Kingdoms, that would be unheard of..."

Her humming changed to a different tune as the words crossed her path. Her head lifted, trying to catch the source of such words, hoping to maybe catch something else or maybe more context. There were rumors about the King for sure, but were affairs in such a state that their own Kingdom could be in some sort of trouble?

Hmmmm... Olivia slid her eyes closed for a moment as she smoothed out a piece of cloth on her table. Perhaps if she listened a little more...

He'd managed only a few steps away from the scribe when he halted at his sleeve holding him back, gaze casually turning to the side at the question. Why did he choose? It seemed simple enough. "Simple logic." A short reply, but he never was the most talkative one. Only when it best suited him, and certainly placating the curiosities of a weaver didn't seem in his interest. Not that there was anything wrong with her trade, just that she was practical, like everyone else.

Things needed a use.

Or at least that was his assumption. He cocked his head to one side then looked to his sleeve waiting for it to be released before watching the girl a moment longer. After a second he shifted to withdraw a 'simple' barrette from his pocket, holding it out. The thing was inlaid with a few glittering gems and golden lining, quite out of place in their fine Kingdom. "It suites them. So I go to them." With that he shifted to place the item away, watching her again before shrugging. "If you go where they desire your trade, you receive the best results. Is that not true?" He added after a moment, glancing to one side. The side effect of potentially gaining details to add about magic, something they lacked, was another plus. Certainly the Kingdom would reward such information, but this one didn't need to know that. She likely wouldn't fit in to begin with.

"Ask yourself where they would desire you, choosing becomes clear then."

Being the firstborn in a long line of smiths meant only one thing: that Crispin Waldegrave had tended a smithy since before he could remember anything else. He was the oldest brother that liked to work on "armor" -- elaborate, impractical suits of plate, meant for nothing more than sitting in a house or hallway. His younger brother worked with making silverware. The youngest loved to design tools. Crispin had never made anything for war or fighting, and for such a strong, strapping young man, he looked more of a farrier or a fashion designer than an armor smith.

Stacks of heavy iron rustled in his arms. Crispin clanked along, wearing a full set of gold and blue plate to market that he was intending to sell. The visor on his helmet was pulled up high, revealing a thin, young face, with vivid blue eyes mussed by a few errant strands of sandy blonde hair. A long roll of carpet was hung over one pauldron -- the mat he was going to display his wares on, as soon as he found a decent spot to set up market.

"Sure is noisy, and I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm wearing this metal clunker," he murmured to himself, shuffling slowly along. The iron suit was heavy, and not only was he carrying that on his body, but more in his arms and his rug atop his shoulder as well.

Quote:
"... killed the previous King in order to gain power..."

"Hey, if you're badmouthing my smithy again -- " Crispin wheeled around, the long rug nearly taking out a few bystanders in the tightly packed area. In confusion he scanned the throng of people, but the voice he heard was gone, and the entire thread of conversation seemed to just melt back into the din of chatter.

Just gossiping about the royalty? he thought to himself, a bit miffed, with one eye quirked as he made to turn back around to continue walking. Always good to keep an ear out for that kind of talk.

[Enter Rosmiera]

Market Day, another day in which Rosmiera was able to get out and attempt to sell the clothes she worked on day and night. Seamstress was her trade, and she love every minute of it. It allowed her to create and add just a little of herself into each piece that left her store stall upon trade. If she could bring a smile upon someone lips just because of her creation, then she was rather please with herself.

Today had been no different, expect for she also had protocol she had to attend as well for the King. Being one of her Wild Card, it allowed her to see the other kingdoms. Only problem she was unsure of where she wished to travel to. With seven kingdoms to choose from, she wanted to pick one that she could serve her King well in.

Walking through the market, she kept her eyes on the stall. No point in missing up a chance for something she might like herself. It might come in handle with her travels. As she pauses by a stall, she heard a few people talking, rather curious as to what was being said.

"... are protected by the Voice. We have nothing to worry about."

Ah, the joy of rumors. She wasn't sure how she felt about them, some seem a little off to her, others made her think. This newest one, she was once again unsure of. Instead she just kept her mouth closed, but kept it in the back of her mind for later. Turning away, she makes her way through the marketplace stall, heading towards the scribe waiting by the pedestal.

Ah, it would seem she came at a good moment. No one else was really around or waiting to inform the scribe of their choice. She gives him a smile as she closes the distance between them.

"Hmmmm..." her eyes kept looking from the Red Kingdom, to the Gold Kingdom. One person had already decided for Gold, a name she was unfamiliar with. Once again her eyes turn back to the Red Kingdom, as it certainly was drawing her attention. It would be a good place to study, maybe even learn a new thing or two. Kingdom of Dreams, it sounded perfect for her. Without another thought, she write her name down on the ledger for The Red Kingdom of Dreams. With a smile, she nods her head in respect to the scribe as he nods to her.

Turning her eyes away from the scribe as she walks away, she glance around in hopes of finding a familiar face. She hope to see him today, like any other day. Would he come to Market Day?

Part of her, honestly hoped he would.

Alastair's booth presented a large collection of varying garments such as suits, dresses, t-shirts and even pajamas. As a tailor, the boy also offered repairs on any damaged clothing if given to him, but not without a fair fee and a bit of time to work.

Presented on the heads of mannequins were eye-catching colorful hats. Hats with shimmering feathers that seemed dance with the slightest breeze, hats covered with glitter and gems, and others with veils or comically over sized bows. Alastair even had novelty hats, one resembled a large block of cheese, and another spiraled upwards like a giant spring. Alastair valued each of his creations and found it difficult (albeit necessary) to part with them as they sold. He hoped his hats would find good homes. Whenever he saw one atop a head in the crowd, he beamed brighter than a parent whose child just excelled beyond the rest.

Alastair leaned back in his chair as he carefully sewed up the a hole in the dress shirt a customer had paid him to repair. He appeared to be relaxed and in his own world, but in reality, he was constantly vigilant. A few muttered words caught his attention, causing his ears to flick in that direction.

Quote:
"... the King is dying, she's going to be replaced...."

Alastair found the rumor unsettling, even if it wasn't true. Death was never necessarily a pleasant subject, but the death of the King could have consequences for the entire kingdom. With a gentle sigh, the boy continued working to repair the garment with repetitive strokes of his needle.

Alastair is going to the violet kingdom for shadowing.

Where they... desired her?
She let go of his sleeve and chewed her lips, eyes wandering down to the basket under her hand.

"But... what about where YOU want to go?"

To be honest, being a simple basket weaver and seamstress, she wasn't quite sure which kingdom would suit her, or... which one she'd be suited to. But even if her trades were accepted there, what if the kingdom's ideals weren't to her liking? Or was she being too selfish, trying to pick something that would cater to her own needs?

"Are you... planning on joining the gold kingdom?"

He watched her gaze fall, following it, before musing silently at her question. Eyes closed a moment as he contemplated an answer. Did he particularly care? He found no ill in the proud people of that kingdom, their ideals were suitable enough. However they were not his own people. Rather he still felt more kinship to the study and observation of others than to any single group. While he disliked the simplicity of his people, he found little wrong with their habits and collective mentality toward obtaining knowledge. Pride was fine, but truly collecting data was his point of interest. "Observation is what I find most pleasing, so if nothing else my place suits me, regardless of location. For I am able to watch, to study?"

It was a fair statement, true as he found it. He could learn from anyone anywhere, where he was desired most just happened to be a place that worked for that as well. "Joining... them?" The words fell off his tongue, slowly, seeming foreign. The thought had never occurred to him, after all... what suited him better than this? Brows knit as he shook his head, mildly troubled at the question. "I feel no kinship at this moment to think of such permanent residence." Though at the same time, the concern of their evident lack of presence from their King came to mind. If nothing else, that was all that would make him even consider such a thing. But such... wasn't worth wasting time worrying over.

Harland Leander Belle was extremely preoccupied with his current project: a delicate gold clasp which he would then use on a very lovely piece of leatherwork. His talents complimented one another rather nicely, in his opinion, even if everyone of his own kingdom dressed fairly simply. Why not create sturdy (and yet gorgeous) garments and items for others? After all, if trade was his lifeblood, and information was most precious, what could he not glean if he dealt with both armour and finery? Pretty things and things of protection; Harland couldn't be happier.

Well, he could be, if he was a little less stressed out about the particular detail work in his gold clasp. Not to mention he was trying to listen in for information, at the same time.

Gossip Harland Heard
"... collapse of our kingdom would create a power vacuum for the other Kingdoms, that would be unheard of..."

What he heard didn't impress him at all. It really was just gossip; naturally, if the Kingdom that served as neutral ambassadors fell there would be a rift between all the others, a burden left that could not be shouldered by anyone else. So he dismissed it with a half-hearted shrug. As he worked, he became progressively more distracted by the notion that he missed someone. A specific someone. And his mouth twisted into an irritated grimace: he should not be missing that someone.

But then again, they were still close; maybe that made it okay? Harland, not for the first time, was annoyed with his own inability to make up his mind. Or his heart, or something. Some squishy unreliable part of him. He absorbed info like a steel trap, but he wasn't sure what to do about this. "It would be better if I didn't have to think about it," he mumbled aloud to himself.

Harland set his work aside, folded up his things, and strapped them into his work bag, slinging it over one shoulder and stalking his way down to Alastair's booth. He already knew that he wanted to tell the scribe he'd be attending the Kingdom of Reflection, but where was Alastair headed?

"How's the weather in these parts?" Harland asked, automatically polite in a sort of tool way. Internally, he cursed himself again. He just couldn't help it; he had to be polite, even to Alastair.

Zoobey
Harland Belle will be going to Purple if possible please!

Ah, she forgot they were just "shadowing" at the moment. Observation, so they'd say. No immediate ties or bonds yet. It wasn't that she didn't WANT to join another kingdom, but...

Was she scared of leaving? Most likely.

"Ah, you're right, we're just observing..." She laughed awkwardly, and picked at the straw basket.

"I wish I was as sure as you. I mean, the gold kingdom seems neat, but I doubt they'd want simple wares like mine, but then the green kingdom looks really interesting, but there's also red, whom we often trade with, and the thought of weaving dreams from illusions..."
She trailed off, a dreamy look on her face.

"The only open spot is down here?" Crispin groaned to himself, sweat beading along his cheeks inside the helmet. Farther down the way, closest to the empty pedestal, there was a large unoccupied square next to someone else who seemed to be selling something large. Bulky. Something that would probably block his mat full of armor.

Who's going to see me down here? he thought to himself, rolling out his rug nonetheless, and letting it hit the floor with a dusty thwump. Immediately he began piling the heavy metal goods onto the mat-- pauldrons and greaves, leggings, gauntlets, a pretty, green helmet, inlaid with paisley gold trim, with a peacock feather sticking out of the visor-- among other things.

They were all just odds and ends to making a full suit. He'd worn the only complete piece he was bringing to market that day, and mostly because it took a lot to cart such heavy objects through such a thick crowd.

Just as Crispin was peeling off his armor, he was accosted by a nearby voice.

"Where will you be headed, sir?"

"Excuse me?" Crispin's short hair fluttered around his face, as he pulled the helmet away and held it in his gloved hands.

"Place." the scribe tapped the list he was holding with the end of his nib.

"Ah? Right," he muttered, his gaze turning inward for a moment. He glanced back at the armor he'd lined up on his mat. One boot-- purple and rose gold-- caught his eye.

Zoobey
"How about Violet?" he said, turning amiably back to the scribe.

But he'd already wandered away.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:19 pm

He nodded in response, seeming to have made his point well. At least she wasn't questioning it, though the nagging voice in his head still was. Best to ignore it, drown it out with simple fact. Rumors were, in fact, pointless. "Exactly."

Though he blinked at the following comment, a small smile gracing his lips. "Do not be so sure, perhaps those with a taste for the higher things are 'above' such work. We all have our places." He added, shrugging lightly. "It is merely that other places will be easier than others. I could sell a trinket here with a silver tongue, or I could sell many within the proper Kingdom. I see no reason to work harder than I must." Though the look on her face, perhaps his words fell on deaf ears, for she seemed lost in a fantasy at that point. Dreams were, after all, the perfect fantasy. Something hard to resist for even the most logical being.

But he cared little for charades and illusions, so such did not strike his fancy. "Perhaps, but it is all just temporary wishes. Granting an illusion that is real for a moment does not make it more than an illusion."

Gertrude didn't think she was going to get very far just by wandering around. So, she'd figured she'd just talk to someone. Like that guy. He looked promising. "Hey, you! You hungry? Do you like meat? Because I have a ton of it. Fresh meat." She held out a grilled pheasant skewer. One of many. Dang, did it smell great when cooked. All smoky and stuff.

Cookies? Score! The possibility of food clouded his thinking for a moment and then he eyed the plant wearily. He really didn’t have much use for living plants. They always somehow managed to get set on fire. Always. He had been babysitting a plant for a friend, watering it once every two days exactly. It was even doing well when one day he had bumped it while he was walking by the table it was on, turned just right into the sun. Crash! It didn’t break, no, the pot rolled next to the fire place and by the time he had gotten to it, its leaves had wilted into withered husks.

“What exactly does it do?” the teas would do, they would be good for light carrying on his travels. “I was thinking about getting some of your more medical herbs or spices. I’m leaving soon you see, and I want to bring a few things that would be good for travel.” and not alive/ inflammable.

Her question about the king’s rumor came as no surprise; it had been one of the hot topics of the day. “I have heard something about it, but only just the rumors going around.” There was always some rumor or another of some evil deed somewhere. He waved his free hand in the air the other cradling the bottle. “But rumors were just that until solid proof shows up to back it up. Until I get some good details, I’m not going to worry about it.” But then he remembered that the king wasn’t in her chair. It had been more common since the change of power and was odd. Still without any proof it meant nothing.

Not that the rumors were any less interesting. He just liked to see for himself before making a decision about such things.

“Hey, speaking of kingdoms, have you thought about which kingdom you are going to?” a little smile played across his face, showing a small delight in the idea of going somewhere new. He wanted to go someplace he could make a little money, possibly, or even make a few good strong connections. Not that he particularly wanted to stop being who he was; he was a trader at heart. Settling down in one spot wasn’t really his thing, not without a huge pay off anyway.

Mayaa blinked, snapping out of her daydream to look at him curiously.
"I... I see..."
She gave a sheepish laugh.
"I guess I've spent so much time dreaming and wishing, that I just get lost in these fantasies. Just wanting it isn't enough to make it come real. I have to put in the effort, make the change myself. I have to... decide for myself."

Her hands curled into fists, and she gave him a determined look.
Yes, she would do her best, no matter where she went.

She blinked, realizing she forgot to ask him an important question.
"Oh! I was so caught up in asking about kingdoms, I never got to introduce myself."

She thrust out a hand, smiling.
"My name's Mayaa! What's yours?"
