It hadn't occurred to Jan at all that he might want to instead help Fox find his way, since he's pretty sure the boy had no idea where the kitchen even was and he was even considering getting up and going to get him to make sure that he didn't get lost, but soon he saw him, and all dressed in the new clothes he had been given. Hearing him say that he loved it and felt so fancy, he couldn't help but chuckle softly. "Well I'm glad you like them, and I'm glad to see that they fit too, for the most part." They looked good on him anyway. He had outgrown the clothing a long time ago so he figured that giving them to Fox was the best thing to do rather than throwing them out. Plus . . . he looked so cute too.
He couldn't help but smile hearing him say that the food smelled amazing as well, and then seeing him taste the beef finally . . . Jan could only smile wider as he could tell that he really enjoyed it. "Glad you like it as well," he said with a soft chuckle as he began to eat as well. He ate a few mouthfuls before a question popped into his head, looking across the table at Fox. Ah . . . that was right. He wanted to ask him something about earlier. "So . . . Fox," he spoke up, sitting up a little more properly. "How come you were traveling all alone?" he asked, frowning a little as his eyebrows furrowed as well. "There's wolves around . . . it's dangerous to go somewhere alone."

He loved the clothes very much. The albino would always see the people in Palisade looking so incredible in their richly dyed clothes stitched to perfection and the sparkling jewels that the women would wear. It just made him feel like he’s one of those pretty people and eating delicious food. He loves his mother’s cooking to death. What other son wouldn’t? But Jan’s cooking was amazing. Even the vegetables tasted great as he cuts the food up to edible pieces and place it in his mouth only to hum in delight. Clearly he doesn’t just like it, he loves it so much.
Dinner went on great as Fox tried not to inhale everything down at one time or else he would get a stomach ache. But then Jan spoke up, asking of why he was travelling alone and especially with the wolves around. It made him stop eating and glanced down at the table instead up to the other male who sat across from him. He placed his silverware down on the plate and spoke but he smiled up to him. “Well, I live at Oldcastle actually with my family. But I travel to Palisade in order to sell herbs to help them that I harvest from Wardwood.” He paused for a moment and spoke again. “I know that the wolves are out there but my family needed the money and this is the only thing that I can do to help my mother and sisters.” He can still hear them in his mind and his mother mostly saying that he shouldn’t go but he can’t stay home or else they’ll have no money for food.

From time to time Jan just had to look up at Fox and make sure that he wasn't eating too fast, knowing very well that he could choke on the vegetables or the meat which was something he really didn't want. He also didn't want Fox to eat too fast and then throw up. That would just . . . be a huge mess. One he really didn't want to clean up at all, especially after such a long day. He really was happy that he enjoyed it but it just wasn't something he wanted to deal with. Besides, eating at a slow pace was for the best and small pieces too which he saw Fox doing so it was a relief.
Janais couldn't help but feel a little nervous after he had asked that question as he saw Fox putting his silverware down and look down, but seeing him smile up at him and speak was a little bit of a relief . . . except that relief was completely gone when he heard Fox's explanation. He lived all the way in Oldcastle? And traveled here in order to sell the herbs that he harvested in Wardwood? He couldn't help but stare in disbelief, especially hearing him say that he was well aware of the wolves yet he still went just because his family needed the money and it was the only thing he could do to help his mothers and sister. That . . . pissed him off a little, but it also upset him because it kind of reminded him of himself. When he was younger and did whatever he could to help his family . . . or rather whatever his family wanted him to do in order to help them. But still, it was no excuse when it was a life or death situation!
"Fox . . . that's too dangerous." Jan was firm on that as he said it, looking up with slightly narrowed eyes. "It's dangerous to go anywhere near the woods when you're alone like that—how can you do that?" Honestly it amazed him a little but at the same time . . . Fox didn't have a guardian or anything like that. He didn't have anyone or anything to protect him, did he? So why? Why would he risk his life? "Why risk your life, Fox? The wolves . . . the wolves could kill you! And yet you foolishly go into the woods on your own, and you—" Suddenly Jan paused, biting down on his lip as he realized he was raising his voice a little. What . . . what was he doing? They just met, he shouldn't care this much, and yet . . . "I must apologize," he said with a heavy sigh, looking away from him, feeling a little embarrassed. "I did not . . . mean to yell. I just . . . I don't understand why you would risk your life like that."

It truly does sound insane when he listened to his own words but he can’t help it. When they are living in a small home with his sisters and his mother it’s difficult to get plenty amount of food to feed everyone and also keeping sure that their home stays in one piece together. But it didn’t sit right with Jan as he firmly spoke out that it was too dangerous to go alone. It startled the young man tremendously by the sudden change. “A-ah, well I don—” He was about to explain but his lips were shut tight when Jan yelled again. Thankfully, for once, his eye sight is bad and couldn’t see the glare in Jan’s eyes but he looked down at his plate and slowly sliding down in his chair as he wished to leave right now. He doesn’t even feel hungry anymore.
Hearing the apology, Fox nodded his head in accepting it as he sat upright again. The albino smiled softly at his curiosity in which it really shouldn’t be so curious or mysterious on his reasons why. “It’s because I love them.” It was the honest and simple truth on the matter. “I’m not stupid. I know the wolves are out there but I can’t abandon my family in fear when there’s something out there. And besides, I don’t go to the woods by myself. I have my rabbit companion, Penelope, who helps me harvest the herbs and are my eyes and ears for me.” But he couldn’t bring her along for when he’s selling the herbs only because he fears for her safety with the wolves roaming out there. “And . . . I would do anything for them. I really would . . .” The entire conversation, Fox had changed from the silly boy who was playing with his sleeves to a more mature, wise man; seeing his experience in the glimpse of his eyes. He has done things to help them and all he’s not so proud of at all. Such as selling himself for money, for example, which was the lowest he has ever done that has almost make him want to cry again.
“But,” He spoke. “I never thought that this would happen at all . . . being confused for someone else.” He frowned as he grabbed his silverware and merely poked at the beef around instead of eating it. “Have you heard about a man with pale hair and skin being seen with the wolves?”

It really did sound insane and that's what angered Jan the most. But hearing him say that he loved them . . . that really made Fox remind him of himself. He loved his family as well, and would do absolutely anything for them no matter what. Sadly, they never wanted to see him ever again and got so hostile with him when he tried to see them, so any efforts he made towards them were useless. He couldn't even anonymously give them any money or anything—they always knew it was him which made him feel even worse. He just wanted to be a part of their lives again but he knew it was impossible.
Although hearing Fox say that he had a rabbit named Penelope that helped him out, it did put Jan's worrying mind at ease a little bit. And it even made him smile. "You're a good son and brother then, Fox . . . a good man." That was rare to come across these days. It was strange too, seeing how Fox had changed with just a mere conversation. He could see how mature and wise he was, which also made him wonder--how old was Fox anyway? There was no way he could be older than him, but at the same time, it did seem possible.
"Ah . . . yes, I have heard about that," he said in a sad voice, "And I can see how they would mix you up with him. Pale hair, pale skin . . . the only thing that's off may be your eyes, as well as the fact that you two seem the complete opposite. But I can still see how you were mistaken for him . . . and just because of that, people panic." It still made him sad to think that that had happened to such a nice man. "Perhaps you ought to see if you might be able to come into town another way? Perhaps another side of town—nowhere near that awful butcher. Or . . . if you could avoid coming here, to Palisade, for a few days to make sure things have died down a little. It might be a little better for your safety . . ." But he knew Fox would be against that.

Fox smiled warmly at him as he was told that he is a good brother and son which made him very happy to hear. He hoped he is. The albino does try his best for them. “Thank you . . . that means so much to me.” It really does that it made him a little emotional about it. But the emotions had slowly vanished in discussion about his double ganger apparently. There are subtle differences between them such as their eyes but it still didn’t matter to the people as they saw him and must be in relation to him. And sadly, he has to agree. “I know . . . even my family tells me the same of staying home. But I can’t stay home. I need to sell the herbs so . . . I guess I find another way to come into the city.” Fox really wants to avoid the butcher so much or else he’ll be in trouble again.
His crimson eyes looked out at the window seeing the sunlight fading away to the evening. The young man knew he stayed here for a while. There was still some food on the plate but after earlier, he lost his hunger but he ate well which made him happy and full. “I should leave now. I stayed here for far too long and I need to find a room at the inn.” He explained as he stood up from his chair and pushed it up against the table and smiled at Jan. “Thank you so much for saving me and for everything. Even though you shouldn’t have to . . .” He was going to end it there since the young man has said it over and over the entire time here as he shook his head. “Thank you Jan, for everything.” And with that, he went his way to the bathroom where he left his boots and brought them back out into the living room to sit down and slip on his boots as best as he could with one hand.

It made Jan a little sad to hear that Fox didn't even listen to his family when they told him to stay home but he supposed that if he really couldn't stay at home and needed to go out and sell things, there was nothing anyone could do about it. But it did make him happy to hear that he would try to find another way to come into the city because really, Jan did not want to see that awful butcher trying to do anything to Fox again. Seeing it once was enough. Again would be too much. So as long as Fox tried . . . he might be able to worry less.
Suddenly hearing Fox say that he should leave now and that he had stayed for far too long made Jan oddly sad. Find a room at the inn? He raised an eyebrow as he watched him stand up from the table only to thank him before leaving the kitchen. His dark eyebrows furrowed in slight annoyance. What the hell? Jan stood from his chair only to see Fox walking to the living room with boots in hand, following him quietly. He leaned against the doorway, staring at the boy to see him struggling. Those boots looked way too small for him too. "Why don't you spend the night here? I have an extra room with an extra bed that you could sleep on," he told him, a small smile on his lips. "Plus, I don't know how lucky you will be with finding a room. So why not stay here? Free of charge." How could anyone resist that? "In fact, I insist that you do."

He hated his boots with the passion. Obviously, he grew out of it but he couldn’t afford to purchase another pair because it was too expensive. And also the last major purchase he made for himself was the cloak that he is wearing now. Fox could hear Jan following him around and then suddenly asking for him to stay here for the night instead. That surprised him a bit that he managed to push his right foot down in shock. Here? With him? He glanced away as he slipped on the boot and made sure that they try to fit his feet in them comfortably as possible. “You’re too nice, but it’s okay. I know an inn that they would let me stay in for a night.” For an increase price though, but he doesn’t mind it. Jan is incredibly nice, but he has given him so many things now that he starts to feel guilty for it. No body can't be this nice and caring without getting something in return. People are like that sadly and he has nothing to give to Jan in return for the generosity he has shown to him.
Soon, the young man stood up and adjusted his cloak as he walked over to grab his basket and slipped it over his left arm. He grabbed his hood and covered his head entirely; shadowing his appearance from wandering eyes. But he walked back to him looked up to Jan and smiled underneath his hood. “It’s really was nice to have met you Jan and I hope to see you again too. Just . . . not in a situation like earlier today of course.” Fox chuckled a bit under his breath as he turned on his heels to head over to the door to leave.

Seeing him trying to get the boots on was a little painful. He looks like he was struggling a lot and also he could really see that they looked rather . . . uncomfortable. Why would Fox wear them if they were too small? It really made no sense. That was completely forgotten though as he heard him say that he was too nice and it was okay, because he knew of an inn where they would let him stay the night. He rolled his eyes at that, holding back from saying anything. Really? He was still insistent to leave? It made no sense at all! But Jan supposed there was really nothing he could do. Unless . . .
Jan kept his green eyes on Fox even as he passed by him, watching him as he turned over to the door. However, without a word and with only a single swift movement, Jan moved over to the door as well, only to press his hand against it to stop Fox from trying to open it easily. "You know," he spoke up, "It's rude to say no to an offer like that. But, seeing how you don't seem to care . . . at least let me walk you to the inn. Just so I can know you got there safe."

Fox wanted to hurry over to the inn before it gets too dark outside. At night time he is incredibly blind and the possibility of getting lost is incredibly high. However, when he was about to open the door, it was stuck for some reason as he tried to pull it open. But when he looked up he saw Jan who was standing in his way as he held his hand over the door to prevent him of going out. The young albino wanted to question why he’s doing that, but the other male spoke before him and it made him want to cry. He was rude? Doesn’t care? He was so confused on why he said something like that. “N-no, I didn’t mean it like that . . .” He could feel the tears choking up his voice as Fox stares down at the floor. The young man doesn’t understand his reasons. Jan tend to his injuries, gave him new clothes, and fed him a good meal. It had been . . . forever, he had seen this that it’s so foreign to him and can’t fathom why. “. . . why are you being so nice to a monster . . .” Fox muttered under his breath. Maybe it’s just because he is a dumb peasant and can never understand this complexity of ‘nice’ that frustrates him so much.
A soft sob was heard in the silence that he tried to keep it in but he can’t help it. A sigh had followed, and he grabbed the basket from his arm and set it down on the floor next to him. “. . . . . I’ll stay then.” That’s all he answered as he walked back to the chair he sat from earlier to take off his boots once again with his hood still up; wanting to hide away from the man.

Jan knew he was probably being a tad bit cruel and perhaps just flat out mean right now, but seriously. He felt like Fox was ungrateful and just wanted to get the hell away from him now. Well, he wouldn't blame the man if that was the case--he was used to people wanting nothing to do with him. So it wouldn't really bother him too much he supposed. But the fact that he had done all this for Fox, giving him new clothes, bandaging him up, feeding him . . . couldn't he at least take his offer for staying the night? Seriously, it wasn't that hard to just say yes. All Jan could do was roll his eyes slightly when he heard him just barely ask why he was being so nice to a monster, deciding to ignore it. He hated how someone could call themselves a monster. A monster was someone who murdered other people. Fox wasn't a monster . . . as far as he was aware anyway.
So finally to hear Fox sigh in defeat and agree to stay, Jan was shocked. He watched him as he walked back over to the chair he had been in earlier, though he couldn't help but frown slightly. He turned to see where he had a small collection of boots that had built up, spotting an older pair that were much too small on him. He bent over to pick them up as he made his way over to Fox, setting the boots down in front of him. "Here. These will fit you better. I don't need them anymore."

He felt bad; terrible even. Fox didn’t mean to upset him at all but apparently he did and it only made him feel even worse about it. He didn’t want to intrude him and his life or cause him any trouble when he wants to help the young albino after saving him from the crowd who accused him of the wolves. It must have meant something to him about staying over or something or else why wouldn’t he let it go and kept on insisting. And for that, he can’t help but to cry, thinking that he might be rude and uncaring to him even when he thought he wasn’t being one as he brings a hand up to wipe the tears away underneath the safety of his hood as he struggles to take his boots off. Sometimes he thinks that his feet stop growing now due to the small, cramped shoe which makes it worse.
In thinking of apologizes, he was startled in seeing a pair of boots before him that Jan gave him in replacement of his smaller shoes. It was another gift that he shouldn’t have done so, but he does need shoes even though he hates to be so greedy about things. It was the last thing he wanted to be; greedy or charity. “Thank you . . .” He said in a meek voice as he tried them on to see. And they are the most comfortable shoes he has ever felt in his life as his feet are not squished at all when he stood up. “They feel great!” Fox spoke while he walked a little with them on as he giggled, feeling a little better now from earlier now. Then he walked up to him and pushed his hood back a little to see him better if possible. “Where am I going to sleep again tonight?” He blinked owlishly in curiosity

Seeing that Fox seemed to like the boots he had given him, Jan couldn't help but feel a little happier. At least it seemed like he had managed to distract him from what had just previously happened which, really, was what he had been hoping to do. He couldn't help but smile a little as well to hear him say that they felt great as well, relieved that he wouldn't have to have his feet crushed anymore. He could only imagine how painful that must be, especially when he figured that Fox did a lot of walking around for the most part. But he was brought out of his thoughts as Fox walked up to him and asked him where he was going to sleep again tonight, staring back down at him for a moment before giving him a gentle smile. "Follow me."
Jan lead him towards a second spare room that he had at the back of his house. It was of course fully furnished as really, he had thought that maybe . . . maybe one day his brothers would give in and just live with him already, but at the same time he knew that there was no hope for that. But, he didn't mind Fox sleeping in there for a night. "I hope everything is suitable . . . all the bedding is clean," he told him as he stepped out of the way for him to go inside. "I'm sure you want to get some sleep now, so . . . I'll leave you to that," he said, turning to leave. He had a kitchen to clean up still after all, then he would go to bed himself.

The young man followed Jan quietly to the room where he was going to be sleeping all the way to the back of his home. Upon reaching to the bedroom, his crimson eyes widen at the sight as he stepped in and pushed down his hood to see it better. It was larger than the rooms at the inn! Fox wandered around the room in awe as he looked at the furniture and the comfy bed as well with a smile on his face. Just as he was about to tell Jan another thank you, he had already excused himself and he slowly frowned. “Good night . . .” He said to the door before him.
He sat down on the bed and felt just how comfortable it feels as he took off his boots and slowly getting himself ready to sleep. But the more he looked at the room, the more he felt so small in it and including the bed too. Fox was the type of person who needs to be sleeping with someone or something by his side. He was always like this when he and his sisters shared the same bed while growing up due to there was no room at all for each of them to have their own space. When his eldest sister got married and left, he has his own bed but shared it with Penelope who kept him warm. And so when he stayed over at Palisade for the night, he would pretend that one of the pillows was his rabbit and tries to sleep. But sometimes it doesn’t work and would have sleepless nights. It was even worse when he had his other . . . job, in the past. And so, he had a thought . . . but one that was just so awkward as well.
Fox contemplated over the thought in his room as he wanted to talk to Jan but doesn’t even know how to bring it up. He was ready for bed with the cotton shirt still on him and his long johns as well as his cloak still to keep him warm. But then he finally got up from the bed and walked over to the door; tip toeing his way on his bare feet. He opened the door to look around and saw the blurry silhouette of Jan walking around and heading straight to his room, probably after cleaning up in the kitchen. The young albino then walked down the hallway quietly so the floor boards won’t make a squeak and stood in front of bedroom door of the tall male as he stared for some time.
Finally, he lifted his shaking hand up and knocked on the door rather gently. “U-um, J-Jan . . .” He stuttered. “I-I was wondering . . . if . . . i-if I can sleep w-with you.” His ivory locks swung about in the air as he shook his head on how stupid and creepy it sounds. “I mean! I . . . I have a rough time sleeping without someone on my side. Penelope does that with me s-so . . . um . . .” His pale face grew to a bright rosy shade as he just leaned forward and his forehead made contact to the door in making a slight thump. “N-never mind! Good night Jan!” And then he shook his head once again to get all the embarrassing energy out of him and walked back to his room and to crawl on his bed to die in further embarrassment.

Jan went about to clean up what was left over from dinner and cleaned up the dirty dishes, although he found himself thinking quite a bit. Why was he getting so worked up and worried over some stranger he just met today? Usually, he would've even care about someone like that that he just met, but for some reason this man was different. It was strange, but . . . what could he do about it? Nothing, really. That was the last thought he gave it for now as he finished cleaning up before heading over to his bedroom.
He stripped himself down to just his undergarments, but just as he was about to crawl into his bed and get comfortable, the sound of knocking startled him and he instantly to the door to open it, his hand on the doorknob but hearing Fox speak from the other side, he froze, silent as he listened to what he was saying. Wait, wait, wait . . . sleep with him? What the . . . Why was Fox . . . Suddenly it made sense when Fox explained himself afterward, smiling softly and giving a silent chuckle until he suddenly heard a thump on the door, followed by Fox saying nevermind and goodnight, hearing the sound of footsteps. What?
Quickly Jan opened the door and moved after Fox, quickly grabbing his wrist before he could get too far. "Don't ask me about something only to take it back and run away," he said with a soft laugh, smiling as he pulled him along with him to his room. "If you have a rough time sleeping, then go ahead. I don't mind," he told him as he let go of his wrist only to finally climb into his bed, slipping under the sheets as he moved to one side, leaving room for the other as he laid down, falling asleep almost instantly once his head hit his pillows.
