((No worries, been busy on my end. xD AND THANK YOU I LOVE HIM WHEEZEWHEEZE. QWQ -quickly updates all of my previous RPs with his foal cert though woops-))
Garland’s eyes widened when Ri began to crumble much faster than she had before, pieces of her falling to the floor like broken stones. He hesitated: should he pick them up? Would she need them to grow whole again? The bear’s roar and Ri’s encouragement quickly made the choice for him. He resumed his run.
He pushed himself into the slim crack, the sharp edges grazing his sides when he desperately squeezed through. He was almost all the way in when he felt a sharp tug on his tail, and with a yelp, he threw himself forward, just out of reach of the bear in the safety of the cave. He was glad he’d been behind her: some of his hairs had been taken, but he was sure they’d be much more replaceable than Ri’s own tail. Now, he only hoped the shimmering green and gold locks wound around the bear’s claws were pretty enough to appease it and convince it away.

She pressed herself against the cave wall as claws scraped inwardly at them. The bear huffed angrily, finally deciding to give it up and stalking off. She could hear its footsteps, echoing the beating of her heart as it left for its own cave. Risti looked over at Garland, feeling guilty for taking him to the bear. She hoped her expression could tell him how sorry she was, because for now she was trying to catch her breath.
She couldn't help giggling at the missing chunk of hair in his tail. And then the giggling took over. They were pretty much unharmed besides that and a few scratches, and it made her laugh how easily they had escaped. "Well, that was fun?" she laughed, smiling at her new friend.

Garland squashed himself close to Ri’s side, any pretense of bravery gone. His eyes were shut tight, his mouth set grim, and his legs quivering at the very frightening, very real threat of the monster at their tail. The sound of long claws against stone could be heard, the sharp scrape and scrabble setting his ears tilting back against his skull. He waited, expecting the attempts to grow in frequency, but heard only a huff, and then, the thick rhythm of retreating steps.
One blood-red eye squinted open, then another. No bear in sight. He turned his attention to Ri, apologetic for shoving her against the cave’s craggy walls, and was surprised to find the expression reflected on her own features. He tried a tentative smile but froze when he realized her gaze was no longer on him, but on his tail.
At any other time, he would’ve acted indignant at finding the brave and noble sacrifice of his tail hairs received only laughter, but now... what was the point? She’d seen him as he was – not exactly cowardly, perhaps, but definitely no hero, either. Despite that, she was neither disgusted nor disappointed. He felt more accepted than he had in a while, and he laughed willingly with her. Relief flooded through him, not all of which came from the departing bear alone.
“It was,” he said, his smile bright, his eyes dancing. “I don’t think the bear’s around anymore – let’s get out of here.”
