Jove was very good at ignoring people who tried to make him do things he didn't want to do. At least, until they poked him in the ribs. The pup whirled around, his shoes losing their purchase on the wet tile. It would have been almost comical if he hadn't been scrambling to regain his balance, eyes wide and worried, finding his footing only to plaster himself into a corner and wrap his arms around his middle. He didn't want Damien to see those marks. He didn't want anyone to see them, but especially his friends! There was no explanation for why they were there, no way to make them go away, and no way he could really be convincing when he insisted it was nothing. Jove's wet ears folded down as he fretted, giving him the appearance of a puppy who had been left out in the rain all night. He couldn't meet Demi's eyes now that the hound knew about the marks...

It was a stunning and heartbreaking moment for demi to watch his friend curl up defensively. Jove has always been skittish as long as he could remember the tiny boil, and watching him grow and become more social, even without speaking made him happy. To see all that progress go out the steamy window in an instant, it hurt. his own ears pinned back, pouting at the boil and slowly raised his hands up, open palmed. "I didn't mean nothing by that, Jove." he stated calmly, trying to ease the foxfire from his flight or fight state. "I'm sorry." He wanted to ask more, to find out what had happened, who would dare to hurt him. Who would hurt Jove of all people!? It was clear to him that he was not going to talk about it. "I won't ask, but if you do want to talk, you know I'll listen, whenever you are ready."The feeling of shame of making his friend act in such a manner was just as horrible as the fact that he couldn't make eye contact with him. The water that ran cold made no connection between his senses and his brain till after a few tense moments passed. "I'm sorry for upsetting you, i'll give you your space." he mumbled at last, shuffling out from under the shower head and into a dryer area to towel off. The last thing he wanted to do was draw his eyes at the marks again and set his friend off.

There it was. Demi's reaction. Sometimes they got angry, sometimes they worried, sometimes... they just got upset. Jove didn't want his friend to be upset, but he just had no good answers, he had nothing to talk about. He could never be ready for something he couldn't figure out. He whined a little, torn between staying put and chasing after his friend. A year ago he would have run in the opposite direction. But instead, he moved forward. Reached for Demi. Grabbed at the only piece of clothing he could to slow his friend down. The towel.

The towel unraveled, fluttering away, Leaving Damien to stand there, rump exposed to Jove as he tried his best to cover himself. Sorry for the view Jove. And slow him down it did, to a stop. the hell hound was frozen from the action. still, the idea of looking him in the face eluded him, looking at Jove in general seemed like a bad idea. He didn't trust his own eyes. "Its Ok Jove, I won't ask, I won't look, I'll try not to make you uncomfortable." It wasn't stated with his usual chipper voice, it was deadpan, serious. the magic of the bonding moment between them was shattered. And all he had to blame was himself for being worried about his friend.

Well, a minute ago it had seemed like a good idea. Now... Not so much. Jove also froze, except to clamp one hand back over his eyes he was as still as a statue, holding onto the corner of the towel. This should have been what he wanted, not having Demi ask about the bruise marks. But it felt wrong. The way Demi sounded was all wrong. The pup whined, louder this time.

Just when he thought that Jove was going to grow a pair. the boil became meek as a puppy yet again. the whining was louder, and more consistent and Damien was hastily snapping the towel back in place and he in turn bearing his fangs. "Well I don't know what to tell you." he snapped back harshly. "You have something going on and I'm concerned and I want to ask, but you obviously don't want to bring any attention to it so I gave you your space, and now you are unhappy that I'm doing as such. I can't read minds Jove." It was the first time that he felt the need to bark at the young lad, but dammit all If he wasn't allowed to share how upset he was to the fellow pup. "I can't sit here and pretend everything is hunky-jacking-dory when I know that its not."The nagging feeling of the ground dropping out from under him was coming back, Melas was clawing to gain control, tensing his body and the cloud of brimstone that began to grow in the misty shower, there was not much time left as he rushed to get out of the room and far away from Jove as possible, he didn't need to see that side of him. "You need ta figure out wha friendship really means t'yuh."

The hellhound's words stung. He had never heard that tone before, not from Damien, who was always so cheerful. Like another adopted brother, always looking out for him. And while part of the little ghost wanted to run and hide, and pretend he had never heard such scolding from his friend, another small part kept him rooted there. And the more he listened to it, the more that tiny part told him there was more to it than simply running away. And then it struck him. That's why everything felt wrong, the right situation for the little ghost was clearly not the right situation for his friend. But had he pushed Demi away too quickly? A figurative shove like that would hurt anyone who truly cared... But now Damien had had enough, and if Jove didn't stop him, who knew when they could clear up this problem! His whine turned to a bark, and this time he grabbed Demi by something that wouldn't come off. His tail.

He knew that it should have been made clearer, when Jove should just back off. The boil was just far too unpredictable, when you thought the foxfire ghost zigged, he zagged. The desire to get away and to cool off on his own was all damien wanted. There was no need for Jove to see that side of him, there were people who knew that he was a clusterbomb of personalities, but not jove. That one little tug, that rebellious bark and he could feel the control slipping, dissolving into nothingness and the feeling or anger rise. the temper that flares when the body refused to listen to his requests and followed another. The body of damien whirled around but the facial features, the snarl on his face and the dark emerald eyes were clearly not him. "Da Alphas na here runt, and I could give two shits 'bout yer condition.' he growled back, snapping at the boil and taking off the towel, uncaring for the restriction. the pitiful scoldings from the two voices in his head were brushed aside as he laughed at the tinier boil. "Looks like someone kicked da pup a few times, HA! Unable to fight someone above their ankles eh?"

Jove wanted to look away again, cover his eyes, but he remained transfixed by that nasty snarl on his friend's face. Was this... really Damien? He took a step back. It couldn't be, Demi had never been nasty to him. Demi didn't sound like that, or say things like that. The hound was nothing but friendly. What sort of awful demon had his withdrawal unleashed? A weak, almost frightened growl rose in his throat. Whatever demon it was, it had no right to talk like that about things it didn't understand. And if Demi was in there too, how would he feel? Was he upset at his demon, or embarrassed? Was he afraid the pup would hate him? Jove growled a little louder, almost like a warning, but there was still that nervous tone.

The sounds of weakness was music to Melas's ears, the tiny vocalization of warnings made him grin wider, more menacing. Sharp teeth were in full view, the hellhound letting out his own bark of dominance. "Did 'ja tink ah would hold yer hand an' tell ya' errythin' would be alright huh, Jove?" he growled back in the mist, spatting out his name like poison on his lips. the careful glare was leveled in the mist of the bathroom. "ahm not Damien, dat filthy little pushovah, an don chu think ya can just growl at me an pretend yer da bigger dog here, runt!" he mocked openly, swiping an arm at the boil. "go back to yer litter and suck on a teat."

Jove growled a little more under the barrage of insults. He didn't need any hand-holding, certainly not when it came to something like this! It wasn't until this demon started talking about Damien that Jove felt a spark of anger ignite inside his own chest. It didn't matter that he was small, or that he had his own little quirks. It didn't matter that he was scared. If anyone thought he would stand there and let his friends be talked down... His mouth tightened as he stepped right up to the demon in his friend's body, and stomped his boot's heel down onto the hound's bare foot as hard as he could. "STOP!" He shouted, and then kicked him in the shin for good measure. Wake up Damien!

Melas was really missing the boots their collective form wore almost all the time. A howl of pain ripped from the hounds throat as he clung to the wall as a brace for his injured foot. Wet and throbbing from the strike, the grumpy hellhound snarled at the tiny boil and pushed him away. "Back off, ya little s**t!" enraged by Jove's actions and the ridicule of mockery that was going on in his head. The nerve of this little mutt. "the little chihuahua can yap, yuh wanna get hit huh?"

And back off Jove did, but only to growl louder this time. He had been hoping the previous blow would snap Demi out of it, but no such luck... How did he get Demi back without hurting him too badly in the process? The pup took a couple more steps backwards, retreating towards the shower that had been left running. This was all his fault, he shouldn't have pushed the hound away like he had. He should have been up front and honest about the bruise marks instead of acting like he had something to hide after the fact. Once Demi had seen it, that was it. Maybe if the pup hadn't acted like it was a problem, it wouldn't have been, and Demi would still be himself... All he wanted was to learn about the shower...

It was an amazing feeling, the power that came with dominating someone, instead of being the one who had to bend their knee to another. The grin became more sadistic, fangs and teeth were bared. It wasn't damien, oh how he wanted to step on his alter ego's neck and have it beg for mercy. A fruitless dream for now, but terrorizing Jove was going to be just as sweet. Torturing Jove was as inadvertent way to getting to the alpha. "Where are yah goin Jove?" he asked, mocking the sweet tone that damien used to speak when he moved closer to the foxfire pup, walking backwards to the shower. "yer no longer feelin' as brave as before? Where was all dat lip ya were givin' me?" the hound asked, tauntingly. "Well? You want yer little buddy back, one of the three alter ego's in dis body?" he didn't care for any response as he continued to move in closer. "You cant' have him, this is MY body now."

Wait. Three alter egos? That meant there was still one in there, what would happen if he woke that one up? His ears flattened back as the demon in Demi's body continued to speak cruel things. Jove didn't want to hear that sort of thing coming from his friend's mouth, but it was becoming clearer that this was not simply a case of 'snapping out of it' like he had hoped. This personality was making it clear who was in charge right now... And it liked being in charge. For some reason, that thought made the pup feel very disagreeable. He snorted out loud. He did want his buddy back, but if he wasn't going to get it, there would be no point to fighting this one. He could just... come back later when Demi was feeling more like himself? Turning on his heels, Jove began examining the shower faucet.
