"Quiet makes my skin itchy." He pulled a face at Jordun, with that -- but behind his eyes, he was serious, thinking about it. While he definitely preferred the bustle, the noise, the clop of hooves at all hours, the laughter of people sliding down his street, the friendly lights nearby, he also had a healthy dose of Samael's feelings. He understood better than he ever had before the vaguely-claustrophobic edge that the high walls could bring, the deadened senses from stone everywhere. He'd grown to appreciate, to some degree, the soft hum of nature.

"...the estate isn't terrible, though. It has its moments. It could, perhaps, be a small vacation, if you can find the time..." He raised an eyebrow with that, faintly questioning, his head cocked. "And bring your painting supplies, there are several beautiful locations."

"I suppose it is all a matter of growing accustomed to it," Jordun conceded, nodding. If their places had been swapped, no doubt he would have felt the same way. "Though if I may say so, I believe your, ah, Samael? has the right of it." He allowed himself a small laugh, just a tad nervous. Moving into what he considered a joking phase had never been easy for him.

"Oh, if I were to see the estate anyway... A small vacation from Palisade could certainly be arranged." Idriss would appreciate it as much as he would. The doe was good at living in the present, but Jordun could tell she didn't always enjoy the flow of current events as much as she pretended. A retreat from the city would brighten everyone's moods.

"So, it's decided, then!" He'd been through this game enough times; invitation and refusal, invitation and acceptance, absent conversations that went nowhere. Somewhere in his mind, he was still planning a hunt for when the thaw came, when young game ventured out into the woods, when the trees began to bloom...

He made a sound, and smiled, more than halfway expecting this to be another round-and-round dance where nothing happened. "I go out again in six days...I could probably find you room in the carriage."

Jordun nodded in agreement, feeling oddly eager at the prospect of seeing the estate. It had to do with getting a small holiday from the bustle of Palisade, he told himself. Outside of the city, he could actually think. It was a pleasant feeling that he was looking forward to getting back.

"That would be wonderful," he said readily. Six days was plenty of time to work out a plan of action with Andrus, which he would no doubt need to do. For all his enthusiasm, Jordun still feel a little like a blind man groping about in the dark. There was uncertainty everywhere, and it didn't help that he had little confidence in his abilities to work the upper-class magic of networking.

"Oh. Would, ah... Would it be quite alright if I brought a guest? Or... not a guest, rather, a... companion. A deer." He managed a smile, hoping that Paul would not be averse to the idea of Idriss following along.

That got a startled beat of silence, Paul's eyebrows raised, blinking at Jordun as he tried to process that. As understanding crept in so, perhaps, did just a hint of disappointment -- disappointment thoroughly masked with excitement, false cheer, even if deep down he was just conscious that this made him less special.

"...you mean a Guardian?" Maybe he laid on the excitement too heavily. But that was Paul. Maybe it would pass.

On his part, Jordun seemed pleasantly surprised that Paul was aware of the existence of Guardians. It was the one aspect of his life that he couldn't fully explain to his brother, but that Paul seemed to understand...

He nodded. "Yes, very much so!" It was his turn to study his companion with interest. "How did you come to be aware of them, if you do not mind my asking? Do you have one as well?" The idea was an exciting one. Knowing Idriss, she would very much enjoy the company of another Guardian. The doe had yet to meet another of her kind that she disliked.

"Of course I have one." It held just so much pompous self-certainty: his chin lifted and his head tilted to the side, torn between which of his faces he should put forward. Realistically, it should be the friendly excited one, but....but. The jealousy lingered behind it. Paul liked to be special.

He was the first in this community who had one, damnit.

"Samael is quite the finest. Perhaps they would get along." And Jordun was, at least, definitely better than the goat girl.

"It's wonderful to hear," Jordun admitted. Having grown up being quite the unspectacular brother, he was unused to being special - and wasn't sure how much he enjoyed the singularity it brought. Finding solace in company was something he preferred, and company was not always easy to find when it came to things like Guardians. "There are few in Wellisbury who know anything about Guardians. It is not always easy." And, of course, there was the concern of his father finding out if too many townspeople got word of Idriss' existence. Gossip around the well spread like the plague.

"I'm certain they would get along quite well," he added. "Idriss very much enjoys company. She's quite the amiable little creature. Many of the moments in which I've regretted living in such a small town have come when I realized how few companions she has."
