"I can order for myself."

That was what she was going to say in response to his inquiry. However, before she got a chance to say such, he was already ordering for the both of them. Nonetheless to say that one pair of golden eyes were shortly glaring daggers at the Page.

However, the visual attack got interrupted by the woman's inquiry on drink preference.

Not even a thought went into it. "Water, thank you." It wasn't even a preference, it was more instinct at that point.

When the woman left to go tend to their orders, her eyes once more returned to him, her eyes almost seeming to try to pierce a bunch of stab marks into him.

"...yeah... don't order for me next time... I am perfectly capable of ordering for myself, Crims!" With an indignant sniff, she then mentioned "...I don't mind talking about home if you really want to hear about it... it isn't exactly very exciting..."

Crims was more or less oblivious to the daggers she was glaring at him and even if he had noticed, he pretended as though he hadn't. Besides, she couldn't really read what the menu said and would likely simply point at the items as she had for him. That wouldn't have been proper at all!

Besides, he was simply trying to help.

He watched the waitress walk away, turning to Iris only when she spoke again. He simply glanced at her, an amused half-smile present. "Sorry, general custom here, or back home. Habit," he told her, seemingly brushing her irritation aside. "I'll try not to do it again," he halfheartedly assured her, though his tone said there were no promises.

"So, you're the senshi of Iris and you more or less didn't live with your family since you were shipped off for training at the age of five," he began, generalizing a recap of what they had discussed previously. "You never really described Iris, how much does it differ from Saturn? Or earth even. If you've been there."

There was something about the tone of Crims' voice that made her suspect he would try ordering for her again if the opportunity arose. However, rather than sit and accuse him of such in a baseless manner, she addressed his inquiry quite bluntly.

"...I am pretty sure both Saturn and Earth have natural sources of water..."

Implication?

That the asteroid of Iris did not have such a thing.

She shrugged a bit before tilting her head to the side. "I mean... we don't really have much at home... not many things can survive without a natural source of water. Even the people that live there can't live without the stuff!"

"Well that depends on where in the world you are," he replied, shrugging his shoulders slightly. "Saturn is more consistent than Earth though," he told her, tone matter-of-fact. "There are large stretches of Earth that have little to no water, or rather useable water." Having said that, Crims briefly wonder if she had ever experienced salt water. "Much of Earth's water is undrinkable." He didn't mean to ramble but he was likely sharing information she cared little for.

The idea that an entire planet existed without water was a hard one for the boy to wrap his head around. "So it's barren then? Mostly?" He cocked his head slightly, brow furrowed and his lips pressed together in thought. "What is your weather like then? Do you get any sort of rain or is it always...I guess...dry?"

The waitress took that moment to show up with their drinks. A smile was plastered to her face as she set both cups before the respective patrons. "Your meal will be ready shortly, may I get you anything else?"

Crims looked from the woman to his companion, brow arched in a non-verbal question. He needed nothing but perhaps she did.

She extended a single finger in response to a question he had, but then the waitress returned with the water they had requested. Still holding the single finger up, she reached over, grabbed her cup, and drank from it before Crims allowed her the chance to speak up.

"I think we are okay, thank you! Is that right, Crims?" She nodded to her company, making certain that they were okay.

With a nod, the waitress dismissed herself to tend to her other duties, leaving the pair to their own conversation again.

Now she could speak up and give meaning to her single pointed finger.

"...there's only one city back home. It's small, and honestly the only place where foreigners can be found. The rest of the world is just a place to be traveled... dark sands, little to no resources. No clouds at all. All water is imported, and mostly for the sake of drinking."

With that, her hand resumed a more restful position, making her single finger no longer excluded from the rest. "Desert takes all the water it can get, though..."

His brows arched in response to her pointed finger and Crims forced himself to wait patiently as she guzzled down the water and addressed the waitress. He simply nodded in response eager to have the woman move on and leave them to their conversation.

"Do you have a high death toll then?" He inquired thinking of how many resources were available on earth but many still perished when taking long treks. He hadn't ventured out far in Saturn, hardly made it outside of the city. He knew little of how to trek across the expanse of the planet, how to prepare. Perhaps it would come up in his lessons soon.

"I imagine travel across Iris is impractical, water is likely to come at a high price," he tapped his chin thoughtfully. "I do not think that I would be likely to visit Iris." He shrugged, "No offense."

A pair of gold eyes blinked at his question.

"...I would imagine the death toll is not any different than any other world... well... except the worlds that thrive off sacrificing their people for no reason and such." It was a slight implication that she might have encountered other worlds that had such traditions.

Slowly she added "...we are actually a pretty small world in comparison to a full sized planet for instance. Not nearly as many inhabitants, and the ones that live there work hard. My people live very full lives, it is just different from how a lot of other worlds survive..."

She scratched her chin a bit, thinking over another aspect of Crims' observations and assumptions. "Well... water is valuable, but it is still reasonable in price. One of the girls from the circus... her world is mostly a rainforest. As part of the alliance we have, we trade with them quite a bit, and it isn't nearly as expensive as receiving water from some of the other worlds."

Settling both of her hands upon the table again, she shrugged at his apology. "You wouldn't be the first person who didn't want to visit my home. It really isn't a travel destination unless you are aiming to barter. And foreigners usually just stick to The Port since at least it is a bit more accustomed to non-nomadic needs."

Her lips parted to form a wide smile briefly. "Not too many people are as accustomed to traveling to different worlds... let alone open-minded enough to imagine adapting into other societies. Most people think of things being like home. You know, that's their point of reference, so they won't let themselves experience other things."

Some people might have apologized for getting preachy, but not Iris. She just chuckled again before grabbing her cup and drinking from it again.

His brow furrowed and his lips set into a frown. "That is not what I meant," he started bringing up a hand to scratch at the back of his neck. "It is simply the perception of a lack of natural water source..." he trailed off struggling to find the right words for what he wished to say. "I mean to say," he paused, sighing as his hand moved to tug at the tips of his messy locks. "For the ill-equipped, the survival rate is low." That was what he meant to say right?

He hoped that he played it off more confidentially than he felt at the moment. It wasn't often that the boy got tongue-tied or stumbled with his word-play. Perhaps he had been locked away with the other pages for too long. Regular social interaction was becoming something foreign to him.

He prayed that Squirecy would break him of that. Reintroduce him, allow him to play a more personable role in his knightly duties.

He would be doomed if not, charm and charisma were his best cards to play.

"Human sacrifices are not uncommon," he replied, grateful for the slight change in subject. "Many of the diverse cultures on Earth practice it. Or previous cultures. I like to believe that many have turned to animal sacrifices but I wouldn't truly know," he shrugged settling back into his seat. The feeling of comfort was returning to him.

"I ventured into a desert once, it was a poor experience. Terrible really." He shook his head at the memory. "Do not think I would enjoy embarking to a planet primarily compromised of desert." He took a swig of his water, swirling the cup in his hand before setting it down. "It is not an easy thing to adjust to, many simply prefer to stay in their...comfort zones. The transition from Earth to Saturn was a difficult one for me but I find that to be because it was permanent." He tore his gaze away from watching the ripples form in cup to look at her. "I think I would like traveling as long as it was temporary. Be a nomad as it were."

Two brows shot up, as if he had suggested something unthinkable.

"Foreigners don't leave the Port usually. That is because of what you suggested... ill-equipped for the desert! On occasion a foreigner might leave the port with a native, but that is about the only way it usually happens. However, even that is a rarity." The responsible natives would never even think of bring foreigners to the Vast Desert. Only the real low-lives would think of such a thing.

For a moment, she glanced back to the piano player, as if trying to clear her mind of such a bizarre concept of foreigners just traveling across her world. She smiled to the player with a slight wiggle of her fingers before she returned her glance to her companion.

"So... I guess you wouldn't have to worry about doing much but being a tourist in all honesty! So no excuse to not visit me, Crims!"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 04, 2013 1:35 pm

"From what I've gathered, leaving the port would be like asking for a death wish. To die from thirst or heat exhaustion would be a poor fate indeed," Crims mused. He didn't think that he would be one who would be so foolish to attempt something like that but of course he was still young.

The young were always foolish.

He took a sip of his water, watching as she averted her attention from him to focus on the piano player. He pretended not to notice the wiggle of her fingers and the shy smile that was offered in return. Iris was a performer. Performers tended to be friendly.

He set his glass down, cocky grin on his lips as he leaned forward. "Are you implying you wish that I visit you Iris?" He asked resting his weight on arm.

There was a tone to her companion's voice that she couldn't ignore. If she had been a shyer person, she might have buckled under such peer pressure. Perhaps blushed and denied every implying such things.

However, this was not Iris.

"Yeah, why not? I mean, I only go home for about 1 or 2 months in a year... but I always like meeting up with others I have met in my travels. I wouldn't really be able to give you a grand tour or anything... but it's always fun to show off the stomping grounds!"

She rolled her eyes up, then added as an after thought "...though we'd have to pre-plan stuff if you ever did plan to visit. To make sure I am not in the Vast Desert when you came by." It wasn't like she went home for goofing off or anything. She had duties to uphold, and part of them required her to travel.

With that, she took a swig from her cup, and soon enough drained it completely of all the remaining water. Which led to her pushing her cup to the edge of the table, silently demanding more.

She didn't respond the way he had hoped, but he wasn't surprised. Iris was bold, bolder than he even. He kept his grin on his face when he slid back in his seat and shrugged. "Fair, I make no promises however Iris," he warned casually. "But, we might be able to arrange a meeting next time you're on Saturn," he paused casting his gaze away momentarily. "If I have obtained Squire-status by then." Not that he was concerned.

He had been told he was advancing rapidly and it would not be too long before he would "level-up".

At least that's what he kept telling himself.

"Even then I'm not sure what my travel boundaries will be, if any exist. I have...other duties that will likely keep me attached to Saturn frequently," he admitted. In some ways being a knight of Saturn meant it was his whole life, something he was slowly coming to terms with.

He opened his mouth to say more when the waitress returned, plates of food expertly balanced on one arm and a pitcher of water in her other hand. She skillfully refilled both cups, set the pitcher to the side and set the plates before both of them. "Can I get you anything else?"

Food had arrived!

Iris hardly even waited for the waitress to put the plate down before she dug her fingers into the fish. She was not from a world that was overly high maintenance on manners and such, and it easily showed in how she dealt with some of the more basic things, such as eating. She tore off a piece of fish and was already stuffing the chunk of meat into her mouth before even thinking of answering the waitress' prompt.

"....Mmmm... naw..." was all she got out before she resumed with chowing down.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 28, 2013 11:08 am

He couldn't help but watch as she tore into her food, amusement written all over his face. He couldn't say his manners would be much better than hers. They never got much time to eat, so you learned to scarf your food down without making yourself sick pretty quick. He turned away to look at the waitress. Without thinking he lifted a dismissive hand while offering her a charming smile, "No thank you." He told her.

She had just begun to wait when an idea struck him. "Oh, wait!" She turned around quick. "Mind bringing a pitcher of water to leave on our table? Please?"

She smiled politely and nodded her head, "But of course sir." With that she was gone.

Since conversation had come to a halt Crims wasted little time digging into the fish steaming before him. Unlike Iris however, he opted to make use of the silverware that had been provided for him. Still it didn't take him long to devour everything edible on his plate.

"How's food from Saturn treating you?" He asked.

Aaah, small talk.

The girl nodded her head a bit as Crims ever so smartly predicted the need for more water. However, she didn't say anything since she did have food in her mouth. She might have been eating with her hands, but she wasn't uncivilized. Occasionally she'd pop a piece into her mouth, but then need to pause to pull out a bone or two, which got set upon her plate.

Eventually Crims asked about the food, and the girl had to pause from her already half-finished fish (chewing and swallowing quickly). She wiped the corners of her mouth before mentioning "...Well, I can't complain so far... food on different worlds are always interesting... but the food here has flavor at least. Some places the food is not necessarily very... um... tasty?" She glanced to her plate almost blankly for a moment. Iris knew she was actually talking about one of the few natural sources of food from her own world. Growing up, she hadn't known much else, living off the necessities her world had to offer and the occasional imported dried food. However, after her travels to the allied worlds, she had been exposed to different foods. And after ********* had gathered all the girls for a show on the road, her culinary pallet was expanded even further.

She eventually looked up again and smiled. "Some habits die hard though..." The blonde picked up another small chunk of fish and popped it into her mouth, noting his use of utensils for his own food. "...is the food very different on Earth?" she quickly blurted out before starting to chew.
