Captain Rachel frowned as Lucien and Max ran on-board. "Great. I was hoping we'd be able to leave before the others got here," she muttered. She looked down at the dog. "You're responsible for this thing," she said to Lucien. "I don't want it chasing the crew around. And if it gets fleas from them, that's your problem, not mine." She reached out and booted Max in the side. Max growled angrily, turning to snap at her. She drew her foot out of the way just in time. "Heh. I like him," she said as she put her hands on her hips.

She looked back to Atticus. "Stronger than they look," she told him. She gestured towards a doorway where two of the crew came out. As the ship continued to power up more and more of the crew came on the deck to take care of various tasks.



The rats were large, almost as big as Max. They had opposable thumbs and were easily able to stand on their hind-legs and carry out tasks throughout the ship. Some of them even wore tatters of clothing. One of the rats slowly approached Shira and sniffed at her. It drew back quickly with a dark hiss, snapping its teeth at her. "They don't like you," Captain Rachel told Shira. "They can smell Shinigami. There were a whole lot more of these rats back in the Grim Times, spreading disease and terror and whatnot, before your grandfather cut their population back quite a bit. If you take my meaning. They weren't particularly well-disposed to your family after that."

Several of the rats gathered near Atticus, sniffing at him from a distance. After a few moments a small crowd had gathered near him. They began squeaking and chattering at each other as if having some kind of group discussion. This continued for several moments before they seemed to reach some kind of conclusion and backed away from him, making sure to keep a respectful distance from him at all times as they scurried throughout the ship. On the other hand, the rats would constantly try and get under Lucien's feet and trip him throughout the voyage. Especially if he got near the edge of the ship. Several of the rats surrounded Max and began snapping and snarling at him. Max returned the favor, biting at several of them before Captain Rachel kicked them away. "Work first, play later!" She told them angrily as they scurried off.

Lucian shrugged at Atticus' question "You can be my "Comrade" when you actually earn it." He said to him, not taking light to the discussion they had the previous day. The rats then came out and Lucian was shocked "That's your crew? Wow, I was expecting some big men or something." He paused a moment "This is so much cooler! I love animals!" He looked at the rats with a smile. He wanted to pet one but he figured that would be for later, after he gained their trust.

Max growled angrily as the rats scurried off and trotted over by Lucien. He listened to Atticus speak and frowned. The last thing he needed was a fight with Lady Death and her Weapon. He was here at the DWMA for other reasons. Though hopefully he could find out more about Eric from them while they were all together. Are you kidding me!? He thought to Lucien. They're filthy little rats! He could already tell he wouldn't be getting along with them at all. In fact, he would be perfectly happy to rid the world of a few of them if necessary.

Atticus laughed at the Captain's last statement, "Don't worry, Captain. I've told her to shut up plenty of times. So don't worry about the princess here." Atticus said as he seemed to have been going along with the notion that Shira was indeed a princess.

Niko and Iko came to their meister's side and Niko said "Not much yet, lucky you got on board though, be wary of the crew they're kinda... well not human", "See?" Iko said pointing to the rats scurrying along busy with their duties

The girls shrugged "Must be a weapon partner for one of the meisters" Iko nodded and said "Definitely a weapon partner"

Well won't this be fun Trey said as he looked at the rat Yo captain so do we get beds or something down there or is it just some empty room for storage
