Proud of her ability to haul the big fish over to her mother Teiluj giggled as Maya's face twisted in a grotesque manner. "It's huge..." Maya commented as if trying to plug her nose from the smell. Wiggling her features until an idea came to her. Reaching for her bag Maya pulled out a thick salve from a jar she held inside. Opening it Maya spread a small amount under her nose before she turned back to her work on the fish.
Teiluj curiously leaned forward with a giggle before Maya was able to tuck the salve away. Imitating her mother, she quickly applied a liberal helping to her own face. Turning back to Rishima with a beam. This was more fun than staying at home in the tree! Running back to the waters edge, Teiluj planted her feet firmly in the sand right at the water's line. Wobbling forward as she tried to keep her balance from falling into the water. Sighing exasperatedly as she turned her head up towards Rishima. "More fish?" She beamed, her eyes widened before she realized she had to be quiet. Covering her mouth with both hands as she waiting a moment before changing her voice into a whispered yell. "Mama hates fish though. But I love them."
Maya had to look up twice in surprise at her daughter. Teiluj didn't usually divulge information to other people, especially her food tastes. A good sign, Maya figured as she returned to gutting the larger fish. The child was opening up in a friendly manner, perhaps that would lead to less interest in running around with her bow and arrows. She glanced towards Rishima with a shrug and pulled out another thick vine to hold the fish on the stick's for cooking.

The halfbreed had to bite his lower lip to keep from chuckling at the look on Maya's face. To say that she wasn't really happy with the larger fish might be a bit of an understatement but it made him appreciate the fact that she was helping to gut and cook them all that much more. He would need to thank her once the fishing was done with he decided. It really was kind of her to help someone that she didn't even know to do a chore involving a creature that she obviously didn't care for.
When Teiluj returned to the edge of the water, happily telling him about how her Momma hated fish but she loved them he gave a smile, "They are pretty good. I hope that you enjoy them when they are smoked, it's a really tasty way to prepare them." He said in a quiet tone as he waited for the smaller fish to get closer before he gave a smile. These ones should be a lot easier for Teiluj to deal with, he didn't want to get too many of the bigger sized ones, knowing that they could cause her to tip over. These ones seemed as though they were the perfect size for Teiluj, at least that was what he hoped. Catching hold of the nearest of the fish he tossed it her way, "Just a couple more and I think we can call it a day." He said, not wanting to bore his fishing companion. He could recall, to a point at least, what it was like to be a Youngling and knew sitting around doing the same thing for too long a span of time did get dull after a while.
A couple of fish later and he was heading out of the water, shaking himself off before he helped to carry the last ones over to the fire, "Thank you, very much sister, for aiding me in preparing the fish." He said to her, then looked to Teiluj, "And thank you as well, little sister, for helping in carrying them to your Mother." He told the little Youngling, a smile on his lips. They both were being very kind, "With these I will be almost prepared for the trip I am taking with another sister of mine named Jerarda." He said, sounding quite excited by the mere idea of his up coming journey.

Maya shifted and placed the large fish over the fire with the others. Glancing up at Rishima's approach. Watching as Teiluj scurried along behind him. Her bright green eyes full of wonder as she stared up at the mixed breed. Maya silently wondered how her daughter managed to move without tripping. At Teiluj's age, Maya could clearly remember tripping every few steps. Smiling up to Rishima as he approached, the Alkidike woman set back to work on cleaning the fish. "Sister's help one another." Maya replied bending over with a smile as Teiluj clung to her from behind.
"Or well in your case, we help one another." Maya nodded reaching back to ruffle her daughters hair.
"Can I have some fish when they are cooked Risha?" Teiluj asked turning her gaze up at the man. A large bright smile lighting her face as she clung tighter to her mother. Distracted by starline as the bird clamored around the gutted parts of the fish. "Does Pacju want some Mama?"
"Rishima." Maya corrected once again, turning back to the fish to string them up along the fire. "Pacju doesn't like cooked fish either."
"Not cooked fish, those." Teiluj pointed towards the guts laying in the sand with one hand.
Maya was about to shake her head when Rishima spoke, her antenna twitching at the mention of a familiar name. It had been a long time since she had seen Jerarda. Before the lotus had bloomed to grant her Teiluj. "I haven't seen her in a while. Do wish her well when you see her."

Rishima gave a smile at the comment about how 'sisters helped one another' because it reminded him a bit of Jerarda. The fact that they both referred to him as 'sister', something that included him among the Alkidike. He knew he was different in many ways but the acceptance of even a few here and there put his heart at ease in a way they would likely never imagine... though if one could it was likely Maya given that she had a daughter of mixed blood herself he reminded himself, "It means a lot to me." He murmured before he turned to look at the cooking fish, antennae twitching in a happy manner. With these there would be plenty of food for the three of them to eat now as well as enough fish for the trip. It was exciting because he really felt as though he were getting to a point where he was pulling his own weight. It pleased him like nothing else, knowing he wasn't dead weight any longer.
When Teiluj asked him about eating the fished once they were cooked he gave a nod of his head, "Of course, I will even let you pick which one we eat today." He said, wanting to leave it up to the little girl to decide which of them that they wanted to eat. There was a lot of them to pick from, all different sizes, and Rishima didn't mind which one they ate and which ones he wrapped up to bring with him on the journey to Aisha. When the girl asked about if Pacju wanted some he looked over toward Maya, then around the area, wondering where it was that the pair of Radaku wandered off too. Probably running around playing he thought to himself before looking back to Maya and Teiluj as they chatted about feeding their Radaku, "If they don't want what is left of the fish Itzal could always catch something for them. He isn't too bad at fishing though he tends to splash around a lot." Something he found to be amusing enough though he knew that if Itzal went fishing first it made it harder for Rishima to do it afterward. The darkly colored Radaku was a good boy and had fallen into the habit of waiting until he was done to do his fishing.
"I will be sure to do so when I see her next." He told Maya, giving a smile before he turned back to watching the fire, his antennae giving a little twitch as he did so. He was eager to meet back up with Jerarda after the way they parted. He knew that she and his mother would likely never see eye to eye but maybe they would at least deal with each other? It's what he hoped for at least, "Ah! I have some dried fruit if you would prefer that?" He offered Maya, recalling what Teiluj had said about her not liking fish.

"The fish?" Maya asked when Rishima mentioned something meaning alot to him. Sure the fish probably meant alot but there were other sources of food all over the place. And he must know how to gut them himself right? Maya shrugged it off. Perhaps she just didn't understand his way of thinking after all. She never really understood anyone's way of thinking anyway. Not even Aisha. "If food means alot there's plenty for fruit up in the branches if you know where to look."
"I can pick the fish?" Teiluj was exited about that. She had never been allowed to pick anything before at least in her mind. She had never been so exited. Giggling as she wriggled her hands together and ran on the spot, her eyes slid from one fish to the next. Which one did she want to pick? She didn't want to wait to pick the fish. Scurrying over to her mothers side, the youngling dropped to her knees and inched forward towards the fire.
Maya gave a grunting sound as she stopped her daughters hand before it could touch the fish. "It's hot Teiluj, you will burn your hands on the flames. And the fish isn't even done yet. I'll let you know when you can pick it."
The small girl pouted as she looked away from the food and into the trees. She knew tears were a good manipulative tool to get some of her aunts to cooperate but that had stopped working with them and had never worked for her mother. Folding her arms across her chest she stood up in a huff and pranced a few feet away from the fish and fire.
Catching sight of something in the water Teiluj wandered towards the edge and peeked into the depths. She wanted to try the trick that Rishima had been able to do.
Maya gave a nod towards Rishima. " I do prefer fruit but I have some fresh ones over there... well sorta fresh anyway." Her stomach growled with betrayal.

Rishima gave a little chuckle, "No, not the fish, though I appreciate that as well. I meant the thing you said, about sisters helping one another. It's a nice sentiment, one that I rather like the sound of." He explained, wishing that there were more sisters out there that were like Maya. He just had to work harder, to make sure that one day there could be. He knew there would always be those who were more traditional, those who only believed that those of 'pure blood' were real sisters, but there were those would come around like Maya and Jerarda. For those like him of mixed blood, those like Teiluj, he meant to fight hard for that goal.
Giving a smile Rishima followed along after Teiluj, looking over the fish as it slowly went about the smoking process. It could take a bit of time but it was always worth it in the end. One just had to be patient when they were smoking the fish and preparing it for use over long journeys. Not only because they tasted good and lasted a long time but also because they could be traded with others for other goods. He squatted down, looking at the fish, then turned to Teiluj, "The waiting is the hardest part when cooking, huh?" He said, giving a chuckle as he watched her rush over to peek into the water again. It seemed that she wanted more fish, huh? Not that he could blame her.
Turning toward Maya he gave a smile, "Fruit is quite good as well, did we want to see about gathering some of that as well? Especially if what Teiluj said is true and you don't like fish." He didn't mind going to pick some fruit, especially since the fish was still going to take some time to finish up and it sounded as though Maya was hungry right now. She was helping him and he didn't mind helping her in exchange.

Maya paused and gave Rishima a long hard look. Then looked over to her daughter but said nothing. It was hard to understand the feelings of not being accepted, partially she was accepted by her own kind. She was a pureblooded daughter of Aisha. She had no problems not being friends even with her fellow sisters. So seeing someone wanting to be friends didn't seem quite as easy. It had always been at the back of her mind that her daughter would probably struggle with not being wanted. With being an outcast.
"No I don't need to set about searching for any fruit. I'll be fine it's not that far off before the fish should be ready and I have some stored in my pack from the journey." Maya gave an uneasy glance back towards home tree. Maybe she and Teiluj could do a night class, the sun would be falling soon and her daughters features were likely to be changing a little. She had yet to keep her child out during a night training session. There were different forms of wildlife out when the fungus grew brighter. But then there was the question of the strange hatchling Kinfa. Perhaps Teiluj would be happiest just to carry her.
Maya remained in silence as she watched her youngling from the corner of her bug like eyes.
Teiluj had jumped into the water and was splashing about enthusiastically trying to catch some of the fish like she had seen Rishima do. Though she always seemed to miss. Growing more frustrated with each attempt as the evening slowly carried into the night yawning. Teiluj returned to the smoking fish rubbing her eyes sleepily as they shifted from green to yellow with the passing time. Her hair dripping water into the sand.
Maya gave a half smile to her daughter. She had played hard, maybe she could always explain how water always changed their view and she would have to take that into consideration the next time she was trying to catch fish. Pulling off the fish from the smoking rack to let it cool Maya called out to Teiluj.
The youngling looked up eagerly, dashing towards the finished meat. "Does this mean I get to pick!?" She reached out to grab the biggest one available. "If it's all of us eating then we should eat this one! It fought good. It looks good. So it's good."

Rishima's antennae twitched before he nodded his head, giving Maya a smile, "If you are certain." He said. If she already had some fruit gathered in her pack then there was no need to chase down after more for right now. It was a good suggestion though, for him to gather some fruit to add to his stores. It wouldn't last as long but it would add a bit of sweetness to his meal which would surely be a nice change of pace from the fish. He would see about collecting some of that later, probably once he was on his own again. From the time being he would stick to making sure that the fish was cooked up properly and was ready by the time he headed out. Turning his head to one side he watched as Teiluj splashed about, trying to catch a fish in the sae manner that he had. It reminded him a little of Jerarda's attempts at it which made him chuckle a little to hiself. It wasn't long before she seemed to have tired herself out chasing fish around and returned to where they were standing, rubbing her eyes all the while. He gave her a nod and said, "A good attempt, a bit of practice and you will be a fishing master in no time." He turned then, watching as Maya moved the fish from the fire to the cooling rack, they had barely a moment to rest there before Teiluj was hurrying forward to pick out the fish tha they were going to eat. It took her but a moment to pick out the biggest one that they had, something that made Rishima laugh, "That is a good one." He agreed with her, "Should be plenty to go around." If they needed more there were still plenty more fish on the cooling rack and in the river so he couldn't say that he was too worry about them running out before his travels even began. There were plenty of resources to be had in Jauhar and the surrounding areas so long as someone had the knowledge of where to look. "Alright, let's see about digging into that fish. Need to be careful of bones though, the one downside to eating fish." It was never good to bite down on a bone, other then that though they were one of his favorite foods.

The youngling beamed at the compliment that Rishima had given her. "Thanks Reeshma" Yawning she took the large fish over to the halfbreed before waiting for her part and walking back to her mother.
Maya settled into the sand. Opening her arms for Teiluj to cuddle into them. The sleepier the youngling seemed to be the more she liked to be wrapped up in her mothers arms. Or so Maya had figured it was. Closing her arms around the youngling as she snuggled into Maya's hold, to eat her food. She picked at it until she had nearly finished her portion, sleepy and groggy as the meal started to weigh down in her stomach.
"She seemed to have been satisfied with that. Thank you Rishima."

Rishima gave a happy sort of smile, "You're both very much welcome. I had thought that this particular task would end up as a long, arduous task. I would never have thought that I would have such enjoyable company." He said to them honestly, glad to see that hadn't been the case. The chance meeting with the pair was something that had made his day that much better.
Settling down near to the two of them he set to eating his portion of the fish, growing quiet as he did so. It looked as though Teluj might doze off at any moment as she ate, making him wonder if the pair would be heading out soon. It would be a shame to see them go but since they both had places to be, likely in different directions from one another. If they were lucky, and with Aisha's blessing, they would meet again, or so Rishima hoped.
"I hope that we can go fishing together again soon, Teiluj." He said between bites of fish.
