"Does what mean anything?" She asked, giving him a look. "My name? It's musical thanks ta mom. Staccato is....sharp, disjointed musical notes. 'Er somethin' like that." She stopped to think about for a moment, having never really bothered to ponder their family names. "Suppose it's because I was pretty out of control as a filly..."

Staccato shook her head and sighed at him again. He really had little knowledge of various terms and phrases. She found it slightly annoying that she had to explain everything, but it was endearing in a way. "Yer Coconut, I meant yer somethin' special. Somethin' unique, I guess....and it's a good reminder. His name is Beat and he's excitable...and all sorts of things like that." The mare finished.

'Oh so your mother named you? Mine didn't, I don't even know here. I was sort of an abandoned basket, I guess.' Coconut had thought occasionally about who his mother, and indeed who his father might be, but they were never very gloomy thoughts. He had his health, and more importantly he could talk and that was all he really had felt he neeeded.

'I'm unique?'
He knew that word, mostly because it had been attached to the word 'annoying', but this time being unique seemed to be a good thing. Which was confusing.

The stallion gave a fairly sheepish grin, showing some little self awareness.
'Yeah, I guess I can be a bit bouncy. Do you have a big family? Do you see your family lots, do you like them all?'
The new topic intrigued him because he had none of his own and so his mouth was off again.

"Yeah, mom likes music, we all sorta do. Well...I kinda do, not so much as them." She became fascinated watching his facial features as he got himself lost in his own fleeting thoughts.

"More unique than most who hang around here." She smirked again in response to his grin. "Nah, compared to some we're small stuff. I think my brother's mate has a big family, but I don't know 'em. Sometimes I don't think they do either." Staccato buzzed her wings softly, becoming lost in her own thoughts as well. Come to think of it, if she didn't count her half-brother, it was really only her mother and herself living in one half of the grove.

"....we really are small stuff. Just me an' mom..."

Well, Staccato seemed to be definately using 'unique' in a positive way, so he resolved to think of himself thus as well. Not that it took much of a leap to do so, he wasn't conceited, just very simplistic in his thinking and generally took what others said at face value.

'But that's more, much more than me. By a whole parent. Who you know. Her name and everything!' Coconut said, rustling his wings. She really was very lucky in his mind, though he wasn't to know that most Soquilis had some knowledge of one parent or the other.

'I mean, I could make my own family, but then I'd have to have one of them mates, like a lady. Like you!' he exclaimed, not meaning precisely her, just generally female like her. Though she was pretty...tandem thoughts, tandem thoughts. He grinned and added.
'But I don't know how to be a father, I mean, do foals come with instructions?'

"Sorry ya don't have a family--" She started, eyes widening at his next string of thoughts. "I--nah! I couldn't--I'm not good enough fer a family fer anyone!" The mare glanced away from him, flustered from the thought of anyone daring to like her. Usually all they did was argue with her, but Coconut...she was able to carry on a semi-conversation with him.

"And no, foals don't come with instructions. Parents just gotta know or somethin'. Course what do I know, I don't have any kids....could ask my brother but I'm sure he's too busy."

Staccato huffed, buzzing her wings in slight frustration at the conflicting thoughts running through her head.

'No? Why would you think that little flumblebee?' Coconut asked, giving her a look as if he didn't believe her negative assertions about her suitability as a mate or mother (he had of course forgotten that he'd only named her 'flumblebee' in his head, and had yet to actually use it out loud but hey ho).

'They do? That seems foolish, I mean, what if I do something silly? I mean, it'll be a given for me I think, but there must be some way of knowing what you're meant to do rather than just muddling along.'

Of course it didn't occur to him that the fact that he worried about messing up might mean he would make a caring father one day. Maybe he should just worry first about finding a lady friend, and then whoever it was could help him work the rest out.

'I think you're wonderfully pretty and would have much patience to be a mother. I mean, you're talking to me.' the stallion grinned.

"Flumblebee--?" Staccato started to question the name he had seemingly just given her before being interrupted by his continued questioning on foals.

"Pretty sure ya didn't just show up with a set of instructions, didja?" She asked, giving him a questioning look. "An' if ya did, I'm sure ya didn't keep it." After thinking on it some more, it seemed like a natural thing that came to parents after a while. After all, her brother did raise two with his mate. It couldn't be so hard...

"Nono, I actually have very little patience. I argue with everyone that comes through!"

'Ohh, errr.' Coconut looked sheepish again, and if he could have he would have been rubbing the back of his head as he explained.

'Well, I thought you were a bumblebee, and then you said that fluttery thing, I guess I kind of mixed the two together, and then I only thought of you that way as we talked.'

Coconut shook his head;
'No, I turned up in a basket. On my own. And I wouldn't have know what instructions were when I was a little thing.'
He couldn't agree with that, and shook his head again, and then said to the mare.
'No, I don't think you do, you haven't argued one bit with me, not what teeny tiny bit and I bet it would have been easy.' he laughed.
'I think you're the best, and the prettiest I've ever seen.'

"Ah...I see...interesting ah...train of thought there." She nodded her head slowly, trying to wrap her mind around the idea of a 'flumblebee' and what it would look like, if not like herself.

"Well, I'm sure there were instructions for someone, an' they lost 'em...and you." She gave him a firm nod, giving her wings a short buzz as well. "And really...just because I'm not arguing doesn't mean I don't. I do. A lot. With lots of travelers. Really, I do!" She honestly felt he didn't believe her with the looks she was getting. Sure she was being amiable now, but who's to say that wouldn't change if some other mare or stallion had come along?
PostPosted: Wed Jan 16, 2013 3:59 am

'No, no, don't believe you.' Coconut shook his head and even his wings to show what he thought of her continued assertions that she was really a grumblebee, and not a pretty flumblebee.

He stopped moving and added;
'Besides, even if you do what you say and you argue with those you meet, you didn't and haven't argued with me, and I think that's all that counts. For me anyway.'

Staccato sighed and fidgeted back and forth, switching her weight from one side to the other. It was a bit strange she hadn't really argued with him at all. Maybe set him straight on a couple points, but ultimately she remained pretty calm.

"Maybe yer right. So maybe yer different enough to not warrant getting...upset at. So many come through the grove that get mad because of my mom. Then they run into me and it all jus' goes downhill from there..."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 16, 2013 4:15 am

Coconut beamed; he'd won! Not that they'd been arguing - had they? How funny if they had been, arguing about arguing. Oh well, he'd still enjoyed it, and she had not been cruel, just tried to make him see her point of view, which he had duly trampled over because it hadn't fit how he saw her.

'I'm glad that I don't upset you. Despite my mouth having a tendency to open and not shut again for a good long while.'
He felt that he'd been not too bad after a little bit with the mare, he'd let her get a word in and had found himself listening to her and even thinking about what she said before replying.

'Why would your mother make others mad?'

A sigh escaped the mare as she listened to him. "Well if ya get like that, I'll just stand off to tha side and listen. Ya can go back to askin' the fish questions if ya want." She gave him a small smile and looked across the open field to the forest.

"Mom likes to....trick people. Lead 'em in circles, into traps, y'anno. Things like that." She looked back and gave him a knowing look about the forest. "Ya just don't go in there sometimes...doesn't stop others. Sometimes they get lucky and she doesn't find 'em."

'Oh but I like that you listen to me..so maybe if you look like that, I might realise I haven't stopped talking for a while and take a breather.' Coconut said, giving the ground a little kick with his hoof. It was probably the first time he'd even thought to make an offer like that, or realised that in order to keep what he hoped was a friend that he might have to stop talking. At least for a second. Or two.

Staccato's mother sounded kind of amusing, a trickster of sorts. Coconut wasn't sure if he would like to be lost though, he didn't have the greatest sense of direction.
'Would she do that even if I know you?' he asked, he was curious to meet this mother of hers.

"Eh, keep talking. Another voice is nice...sometimes..." She murmured, looking away to focus on the forest again.

"It's possible she'd try to lead you astray. If you went in there alone, she'd definitely run you in circles for a long time before opening a path to let you out again. With me though, I know the ways and all the paths. So unless she did something...crazy...I could easily keep you from getting lost." She smiled to herself at the thought of the poor stallion wandering lost and confused. He'd probably try talking to the birds or woodland animals to lead him out. "But I'm also sure if she sees me with anyone, she doesn't bother."
