Eva lifted her head slightly, her brows creasing in concern as Lex began coughing. Was he...? Ah, no, he was fine. Relaxing, she set her chin back in her hands, an amused smile curling at the corners of her lips at his response.
"Good," She said, freeing one hand to reach forward and give his arm an affectionate pat, "STDs are serious business, you know, so I'm glad to hear that you're practicing safe sex." She paused to take another sip of her eggnog, and then stared at him with a genuinely puzzled expression.
"Oh? Why not? There's nothing to be ashamed about, and it's not like I'm asking you about specific encounters or anything, right?"
...Though she could if you wanted her to ask, Lex. Eva would do it.
The question earned a quiet hum as she drained the rest of her eggnog. "Well, it doesn't hurt to order a light drink before the food comes, right? What would you suggest for a newbie like me?"

"Er...yes. I got checked regularly, hon." He cast an actual bashful and embarrassed glance off to the side and kept his voice low, not a little unnerved by the conversation. He knew she'd been in nursing school, which meant she had actually learned about things like this, but he honestly never expected to hear the young woman talk about things like STD's and safe sex.
He scratched the back of his head a little, giving Eva a look that questioned just how much she knew about social graces and what actually made for public talk. "Well...it's just not something you usually talk about in public. Sex and all things related are meant for more private areas - or so I was taught."
I'd say...Disorono, on the rocks." He suggested with a tone change now that they weren't talking about STD's and his sex life.

"Oh, good." Another innocent, beaming smile, and then she went back to nibbling on pretzels as if she hadn't said anything awkward...which was probably true in her mind. Whether Eva was simply oblivious to social rules or just ignored them was a mystery, though in either case, it was clear that she didn't care so much if she broke them. It was almost as mundane as talking about the weather for her.
She paused mid-bite when Lex told her that the current conversation wasn't usually considered appropriate, furrowing her brows in thought. After a moment passed, she tilted her head, her expression vaguely puzzled. "Oh, is that so? I thought it was rude to ask about personal experiences, but that it wasn't so bad to speak of sex in general terms." A pause, and then she shook her head, her smile becoming vaguely sheepish, "I'll steer clear from the topic now though! Sorry if I made you uncomfortable or anything!"
Eva looked genuinely apologetic, only to perk up at his suggestion. A...what what what? She had no idea what that was, but it was only seconds after the words that left his lips that she flagged down a waitress and asked her to bring her one of these drinks.
This would soon become a common theme throughout the night.

Lex could only smile and shake his head as he downed the rest of his eggnog and ordered a Disorono to get him started off. As the evening progressed, he would be ordering harder liquors - not hard enough to get him smashed, mind you. He had Eva under his charge that evening, and if anything happened to her, he would be receiving a lot of hate (a good majority from himself.)
Well, asking about personal encounters is the ruder of the two, I'd say." He grabbed a bowl of Pub Mix from a passing waitress, setting it on the table so he could have something to snack on while their food was being made. "A gentleman doesn't kiss and tell, after all." He chucked with a little wink, before the waitress was back with their drinks and food.
"Sorry for the wait."
"It's fine, dear." Lex told her as the she set the food in front of them, giving her a little wink once she'd set the drinks on the table. She blushed as she left, very nearly stumbling into another waitress.
"Ah, nothing like bar food."

"I'll keep that in mind!" She chirped, nodding enthusiastically to show that she was serious about this. Yes, she would be most certain not to ask anyone about their personal...er..."conquests", for the lack of a better word. Not only was that way too invasive, but...
...She didn't really want to know the details.
Eva shuffled back on her seat and sat up straighter when their food and drinks were brought, her lips splitting into a wide grin. She gave the waitress a little nod of her head in thanks, but said nothing, struggling not to giggle at Lex's wink. My my, he really was a ladies man, wasn't he?
Not that that was a bad thing--Lex, she found, was very gentlemanly, so it wasn't as if she considered his charm to be a problem. Looking between her drink and her food, she chose to lip the cup to her lips first, taking a sip. "Hmmm. One of my first tastes of alcohol, and I'll have to admit...it's a little...strange, but not as bad as I thought it'd be." Just like the eggnog.
"Haha, it's been a while since we've been let out, huh?"

Taking a bite of out his sandwich - praise the Lord for crisp bacon - Lex chewed for a while, savoring the taste of a real good sandwich with real fresh bread and produce. God, it was good to eat and drink in an atmosphere that didn't bear down on your shoulders. A sip of his drink, and Lex began chatting. "Mm, yes. I heard you used to get two days off per month before the portals were shut down. I guess we have the, er," he paused for a second, searching his lexis for an appropriate word to describe the Halloween creatures, "The interlopers to blame for that one."
Another bite of the sandwich, and another sip of liquor.
"I hope nothing like that happens soon; I'd love to be able to travel without flying."

Mmm, spicy wings. Although it was probably easier to use her fingers, Eva chose to spear one with a fork instead, nibbling at it as Lex spoke. Although she hadn't felt very hungry before, now that she actually had some tasty food in front of her, she could feel her stomach grumble a little. She had basically plowed through the day off of her excitement and desire to shop alone--it was a good thing that Lex had let her tag along for a little bit of downtime.
"Yup! I always took me breaks when I could, because...well, you know," She made a vague gesture, giving her fork a little wave, "I honestly go a little stir crazy when I'm stuck in Deus Ex for too long. You guys keep me sane though." She shot Lex another grin before absently taking a big sip of her drink. The spicy wings were a lot hotter than she had initially anticipated.
Grinning, Eva casually shrugged one of her shoulders and then took another sip, "Right? It's nice that the portals were brought back up in time for Christmas shopping! I have to admit...it's a pretty nifty way to travel."

"Mm, I'd imagine so. I was aching for some off island time myself by the time we were finally release." He remarked with a little grin and flourish of his hand, biting into the last bit of the first half of his BLT and his Disorono. Their ever attentive waitress was immediately at hand with the bottle of the liquor, placing it on the table as she and Lex exchanged flirty glances and a few quick words. She said it was a 'gift from the manager', which Lex responded with 'well, I'll be thanking her personally later.' She left with a pleased smile, and Lex was left smirking as he poured Eva and himself another glass.
He reclined a bit on the chair, casting a few glances around. The place was a cupcake of loneliness sprinkled with a few couples. People seeking some kind of comfort, a companion so they wouldn't be lonely in the Holiday season. It was really quite sad, but Lex couldn't do anything about it for once. He had to return to the island, where he didn't have to face the same heart crushing loneliness.
"You know...Deus Ex is a bit of a blessing. We're never really alone, are we?"

Eva not-so-subtly glanced away as the waitress and Lex exchanged looks, trying not to grin as she busily finished off the first of her spicy wings. She was making really slow progress with the plate that she had ordered, but that was okay, right? It wasn't as if they were in any particular rush.
Of course, she was unaware of the fact that her drink was getting drained a lot faster than it should have been. When Lex refilled her cup, she thanked him with a grin before taking a quick sip. While trying to quell the light burning sensation from her spicy food, Eva seemed to kind of forget that this was alcohol and not her usual glass of water or soda. The fact that she was taking occasional light sips was also less obvious than if she had downed the glass in one gulp.
She didn't seem to be particularly aware of the fact that she feeling a little more relaxed than she had been a few minutes ago. Just the teeniest bit, but it was still there. Just as she was about to spear another chicken wing, she glanced up at Lex, blinking at the man in surprise before her expression softened.
"No, we aren't," She agreed, a small smile playing on her lips, "I mean, we have our partners, and each other, and...it's a lot more than I had back at home, to tell you the truth."

"I can't imagine a sweetheart like you not having much in the way of good friends." Lex admitted, taking another sip of his drink while giving Eva a pretty concerned face. He was never open with the people he knew about the things in the shadows - maybe she had been? Society tended to ostracize anyone who was outspoken about things that weren't of the norm.
"I'm glad you've got friends now, though. A big heart like yours and not a single person to receive it's love; it'd be a waste." He smiled gently, nudging her foot with his in reassurance. Another small sip of his drink and he moved on.
"It'll be fun, spending Christmas with more than just one person. Hopefully nothing blows up, right?" A laugh and a wink as he picked up the other half of his sandwich and bit into it.

She blinked at Lex in surprise, but the expression on her face soon bloomed into a sheepish--but admittedly pleased--smile. "You think? You're a hell of a nice guy yourself though." Eva reached out to give him an affectionate hair ruffle, grinning from ear to ear. When she drew back, however, she let out a little sigh and lifted her glass again. "I was kind of...well, you know, the town crazy though. People didn't mind so much when I was a kid--since, you know kids see all kinds of things--but as I got older..."
The young woman shrugged before taking a slightly bigger gulp of her drink, feeling her tensing muscles relax. In hindsight, it really would have been best if she had just shut up about the whole seeing shadows thing, but it was too late for that now. She couldn't say that she exactly regretted where life had brought her either--although Deus Ex could sometimes be hell, the people here made it all worthwhile.
Maybe it was Lex's words, or maybe it was the fact that her mind was feeling a little fuzzier than before, but Eva promptly stood up and leaned over the table to give the man a hug. "I wouldn't trade you guys for the world," She assured him, before plunking back down in her seat.
She seemed to remember that she still had food to finish when she saw Lex pick up his sandwich. "Hopefully, but at a place like Deus Ex, there's never any guarantee." Eva chuckled and stabbed another spicy wing, but instead of taking a bite of it, she instead drained the rest of her drink.

Lex chuckled a little at getting his hair ruffled, aware that Eva was already getting tipsy. Sip after sip after sip like that, with little to no food in between - she was doomed from the start. Hailing a waitress, he ordered a water for the poor girl so she wouldn't have to keep quenching the fire from the wings with liquor.
Once she had given him a hug, Lex knew Eva was a happy, giddy sort of drunk. He smiled and actually laughed a little, glad to find that he wouldn't have a raging emotional drunk on his hands tonight; he really didn't need a sobbing, whimpering person clinging to his arm in the middle of New York during the holiday season when it was already hard enough to walk through unhindered.
"Wouldn't trade you for the world either, sweetie." He returned, squeezing her in the hug. Odd, how quickly he was warming up to her. She was like that type of person, he supposed - the kind that wormed their way into your heart and made a home there. Strictly platonic and non-sexual, of course; the girl was too innocent for Lex to even think about it.
"Well, if the Sun division is involved...we might need to just hide in the Life labs." He chuckled, picking up his other sandwich half and biting into it.

Eva wasn't really sure what this strange, warm and airy feeling was, but she liked it. Being so relaxed made her a little sleepy though, but she resisted the urge to flop over the table and pass out when she heard Lex speaking to her. Another grin bloomed over her face, and she probably would have jumped up to hug him again had the waitress not brought her a glass of water. Instead, she just beamed at him from over the table, and if she had a tail, it probably would have been wagging a mile a minute right about now.
"You know what you're like, you're like a big brother," She declared suddenly, looking pleased with herself as the thought suddenly came to mind, "I mean, not to...everyone," She made a vague gesture towards the waitress, "But I think you're nice and silly and awesome I always wanted a big brother okay?"
Eva grinned at him brightly, only for the grin to fall when he mentioned having to hide out at the Life labs. In an instant, she whipped out her cellphone, squinting at the screen thoughtfully as she sifted through her contacts. "Ooooooh I'm going to warn everyone, okay?"

"Ahaha, well...sure. Big brother Lex." He smiled, letting the title roll off his tongue. It felt oddly satisfying, even if this were coming from a freshly turned twenty one year old who was one of the lightest lightweights he'd seen in his life. He gave her a little wink, appreciating the sentiment as he finished off his sandwich.
Now for the real alcohol. Hailing their waitress over, he ordered a tall glass of rum and coke, fifty-fifty if you please, that would be drained within minutes after it came.
"Wait...sweetie, what are you warning people about?"

"Can I call you big bro then? Pleasepleasepleaseee?" She gave him the best (drunken) puppy eyes that she could manage before turning back to her cellphone, forgetting all about her food and her glass of water as she focused on the tiny screen, squinting and sticking her tongue out from the corner of her mouth.
Eva's fingers flew over the keys as she typed, and the speed would have been quite impressive had it not been for the fact that her messages were full of typos. She didn't even look up at Lex before answering, her gaze still fixated single-mindedly on the screen. "I'm warning people that Deus Ex is going to blow up, of course!"
Before long, a good number of people in Deus Ex would find themselves with a text.
