Moto'Seide raised her own paw, watching the movement of Moto'Spaki's. She tried it with some adequacy, but it was clear the movement would require a great deal of practice.

Practice was not something they had time for today. "This technique will be difficult to teach." And should not be attempted in battle until perfected. Time was of the essence in a fight. There was no guarantee a paw-to-paw combat scenario would ever commence.

"I will come find you, soldier, to better learn this technique further. For now, we must continue with the interview." He was correct in assuming that they were moving on.

However, the Legate had seen enough on which to base a decision. "You are free to ask questions now."

"It is," He agreed easily, because he knew that in his own experience it had taken some time to learn. Moto'spaki imagined some gifted fighters might take it up quickly, but others, like he, would simply have to make due with practice.

When the continuation of the interview turned out to be his turn to ask question, he was admittedly at a bit of a loss. Not asking a question was not apparently an option, yet wasting her time with a stupid one just wouldn't do. He didn't find it his business to ask why she was leaving for a period, or for how long, even if he was curious.

But he managed not to take too long before coming up with a couple. "I have two. What have you found to be most challenging, as Legate?" So that, should he be chosen, he could look out for, or at least attempt to help whomever ended up in the position. "And do you have any suggestions for me? In my manner or fight." Because it was as good a time as any to glean some words of advice from his boss, he supposed.

The Legate appreciated Spaki's blunt honesty. There was a moment of silence in understanding, before the Legate was listening again.

They were not the questions she had been expecting. Most questions had been very standard fare; many more had left lions stumped and the meeting had ended. Moto'Seide paused, then, to gather her own thoughts and look over the expression on Moto'Spaki's face.

"Respect," she decided easily. "Your company can run flawlessly, your battle tactics without error, but unless I take the time to listen to their concerns personally, I have little respect from my soldiers. When I returned home, it became clear to me that this respect had to be earned again. A Firekin must constantly prove himself, and so I have had to learn to be a family to, as much as a leader to, those who I lead." Respect was easy to lose, as well, and there are many whose respect simply could not be won. Not every battle, after all, could be won, either.

"Learn to smile, Moto'Spaki," was her only advice for him. It was a problem she herself had. Though they were untrue, those who had never mingled with her for long had an impression of a cold heart to go with her calm attitude. A pleasant greeting, she'd seen, sometimes went a long way.

"Unless there is anything more, you are free to go."

He listened with interest, to take note of her words and give them proper amount of thought later. But he could see how easily respect could become an issue. Were he in her position, Spaki would probably have trouble becoming like family to his soldiers. So that was a valuable insight for him, and one he would keep in mind.

The advice she gave him caught him a bit more by surprise. He tilted his head slightly, looking uncharacteristically inquisitive for a few moments. But Moto'Spaki did not ask her to elaborate, and before long he closed his eyes and nodded.

"No, that is all." He had things to consider, and she had things to do. "Thank you for you time." With one more polite nod, he turned away [as she had already given him leave] and walked along towards the barracks.
