"Okay, maybe too soft." Jordan offered Harrison his hand to help him out of the mattress, laughing. "Rep," he called. "We're gonna need some help here."

Harrison took Jordan's hand, feeling more like he was in a trap-filled temple than a bed store.
He used the momentum to edge his feet towards the edge of the bed, so he had some extra leverage.
"You find anything good?" he grunted, also at Rep.

Rep froze up as his name was called and his first instinct was to pretend he didn't hear, that he was so engrossed with looking at the selection that he'd completely missed it. But he hadn't, and steadily building guilt was like a chain that hauled him away from where he stood, taking a few hesitant steps in their direction. It took him all his effort to do so.
"Erm. Nah." he waved a hand at the linens dismissively, stopping again. "Most of this stuff's all frilly. Really gay."

"Nothing too dark in color," Jordan said, and moved on to poke at the next mattress once he'd assured himself that Harrison would be able to escape the gravitic pull of the over-soft one. "That stains really easy."

"And frilly sounds like it'd itch," Harrison chipped in, finally dragging himself from the matterssy pit.
He eyed the next mattress with trepidation, but lay back on it anyway, doing the same hips-elbows-shoulders routine.
"You oughta try some of these out."

Rep flinched at the mention of stains. "Yeah hahah." Oh great, he was developing a nervous laugh like Jerry, this was a ******** slippery downhill slope.
"And naw." he said to Harrison, quickly veering the conversation away from things that were making him consider freaking out. "Who knows who has lay on those beds? Could be anybody."

Jordan paused and studied Rep's face and posture for a moment. Then he abandoned the mattresses and padded over to Rep, settling a hand on his arm. "Hey," he said softly. "You okay? What's up?"

"These are the floor samples. Who cares who's sat on them. Ours'll be brand new. But I'm not buying anything without a test drive. I'm just glad, uh," he paused, embarrassed, at the soft question.
He sat up, waiting to hear the answer.
...Was something up?

Rep tensed up as Jordan came over, gaze darting around almost frantically. What if someone just walked in? He could practically feel people judging him, people he hadn't spotted yet. Normal people. It was ridiculous, he shouldn't be having a ******** moment and ruining theirs. But he couldn't help it.
He backed away from Jordan's hand as if it stung, and it hurt to do, but he couldn't not do it.
He swallowed audibly, his tone almost pleading. "I'm fine. I'm just. Trust me okay, I'm fine."
Holding up a hand he said - with an almost manic level of positivity, still very slowly backing up - "I should go check out the duvets and stuff right? You guys can...do whatever you are doing! It'll be fun!"

Oh. "Okay," Jordan said, lowering his hand and suppressing a sigh. Rep needed some space; it was kind of amazing that he'd relaxed about the whole thing a much as he had, and Jordan shouldn't be surprised that it would be hard for him with strangers potentially watching. "Pick something nice?" he said with a small smile. "We'll keep looking."

"We're mattress-testing," Harrison said, skeptically, hoisting himself up and off.
"I mean, aren't you gonna at least look? You're gonna be sleeping there too," Harrison said, the last sentence almost a question. The question was for Jordan also. "I mean, I thought we were shopping together."

It looked for a moment like he was going to get the go ahead to skip off and hide for a bit, Jordan backing off and playing along with what he wanted. At least, he was getting away with it till Harrison got up and he went from feeling flighty to downright terrible. He wanted to look, wanted to join in with the trip, he'd been so excited moments ago.
The comment about shopping together was almost physically painful.
He started wringing his hands, something he hadn't done in what felt like a very long time. "I.. I can look in a bit. I'm just like..excited to see all the things?"

"He just needs a minute," Jordan said, looking from Rep to Harrison. "Been a while since we've all been out in public." He laid a little extra stress on the last word. "It's all right, we can narrow the choices down before he needs to give his opinion, right?"

Harrison shrugged. "Okay. We can look at other s**t first." He didn't mind.
Jordan gave him a significant look, and Harrison tried to process it.
"Public?" Harrison repeated, confused. He looked at a plasticky woman with overdone hair herding a kid and a couple of teenagers examining a bannister that, in a certain light, was crudely shaped.
Harrison added with a certain amount of disdain, "What, those guys? That's what this is about? ...I mean, we can."

Rep didn't even know what to say, he felt somewhere beyond embarrassed and accelerating. Watching the almost coded one sided interchange between Harrison and Jordan made it worse. When Harrison didn't get it - and in Rep's eyes responded incredulously, even going as far as to look right at the people nearby - he just wanted to disappear.
He backed up just a little more, looking somewhere between running and lashing out.
"I just.. people will think..."
