She spent the majority trying to keep away from the tentacles encroaching on her, though in her eyes there were also dancing shadows, creatures that leapt and bit at her shield with fervor and curved claws, but last time she had a dagger, a stupidly small dagger but a weapon, not empty-handed, not alone, not -
< < WAKE UP! > > Thane's voice broke through just as the illusion began to fade. < < Wake up, Halfling, you've been fooled! > >
The purple runes laid stark against the snow, and Stormy scrambled over to pick him up, finding her shield was a lot weaker than before. Maybe it hadn't been shadows leaping at her after all, just Jake. But she still shuddered from the encounter, and violently so.
She could almost see the curve of the dracolich's maw revealing teeth in her mind. < < Show him our little trick, > > he hissed. < < Show him! > >
But she feared for the end result and its inevitable recoil, her peppiness taken over by a very cowed look. Too weak, that's what she was. She wouldn't be able to handle the explosive charge at this point and she knew it. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it won't happen again," she mumbled quickly, easily, like it was habitual to apologize. "I-I didn't mean - it was neato, honest, I just - sorry. I'm okay."
To prove it, she gave a half-hearted swipe of her weapon, though she was quick to retreat, to put on a tremulous smile and try to get past that awful display of absolute stupidity she'd just put on.

Jake frowned. Had that illusion shaken her up that badly?
"Hey... I'm sorry." he muttered lamely. If her weren't so infected with JOY, he probably would of yelled at her for being stupid. At the moment though, he only offered a half-hearted smile and raised the tonfas.
"How about we just finish this little battle so we can go have some fun, hmm? And..." he winked at her. "If I win, you have to tell me your real name, ok?"

His attempts to cheer her up garnered a simpering smile where there would have otherwise been a flat, neutral look; the wink was a nice touch, though. Joy was a magnificent thing, wasn't it? "Okay," she answered with a small nod, still demure but at least not so quiet. "But . . . I think you've pretty much won; getting so tiiiireddddd I could nap. Only way I have a chance of winning is losing my charge, but my partner's is . . . scary."
Thane wouldn't let her go so easily, however, and though she was in control his will was an imposing thing. Snowflakes were kicked up once more as Stormy stabbed her weapon forward.
"Could we nap and then do something fun? We should like . . . We could totally build a fort and pelt snowballs at people."

Her lack of enthusiasm made him frown some more. What had he DONE to the poor girl?
"Hey... don't say that. Trust in your partner! I mean, I wouldn't be where I am now without him." Chester made a sort of strangled noise in his head. Was he... being complimented??"
Her suggestion of a nap made him smile again. "A nap sounds nice, and snowball fights, yes!" Joy!Jake was quite the polar opposite of normal Jake.

Her smile turned a little sad despite herself, almost guilty even. She knew she was supposed to trust him, but when she did Thane took her down places she wasn't sure of . . . But then, was she even sure of herself? That was the real problem: self-confidence. Maybe if she improved that, their bond would be strengthened. Yeah - yeah, she could do that! It seemed such an easy task as they stood there in the snow.
"You're right," she acquiesced, her smile returning back to its luster from before. "It's just a little scary sometimes since he, ya know . . . explodes." Jake had seen it happen to the horsewoman. "It nearly killed me the first time, and I know it's something I can't use all the time, so . . . I want to get stronger so I'll only use it when I want to, not 'cause it's the only way to win."
Still, having him accept the nap request was most lovely, and her smile widened. "Excelleeeeeent~ And it's perfect nap weather too, all cold and windy and stuff." As if he needed an example, she stuck Thane in the ground and lobbed out a small chunk of snow with another giggle.
< < A mighty dracolich, dumbed down to a shovel. > > Thane was simmering.

Explode? Jake cocked his head.
Hmm, well, he would show her that there was nothing to be afraid of!
His enthusiasm managed to set off his FEAR attack, inducing another lovely illusion of tentacles and glowy stuff and whatnot.

And then just as she was getting better, more tentacles and spikes and darkness.
Tentacles would always work on young girls, Jake, didn't you know?
Stormy trembled visibly and would have cast magic missile into the darkness defended herself better, but everywhere she looked was the stuff. At least this time she wasn't flailing and yelping?
< < Scars knows - if you have an advantage, you press it. > >
Stormy disagreed partially (she didn't think of Jake as a Scar, too subtle and slimy for someone like him), but winced nevertheless as she tried to prep herself for the incomin attacks - and trying not to stare too much at all the limbs groping for her, makin her heart rate rise.

If grumpy!Jake didn't understand the terrifying implication of tentacles and young girls, it was also quite lost on joy!Jake. It was a shame, because Chester was actually quite nice. Darn you media for portraying tentacles in a bad light.
"Um... oops." He stepped in, trying to use the tonfas to swipe away some of the illusory wisps, only managing to hit her fear shield a little.

< < Ooops? Ooops? Why are you letting him get at you so easily? > >
That was an answer that would have been unearthing a whole lot of other stuff Stormy didn't feel like sifting through. No sir, she was usually a Sad Sally and had already been stupid in their spar, and she wasn't going to add more on top of that by thinking about old stuff. So she just winced when the tonfas struck her barrier but rooted herself to the spot, shutting her eyes until the sensation of Fear stopped surrounding her.
"Yeah . . . Yeah, I'm okay. Buuuut I think it's clear who won," she said with a wincing smile, lifting her hands in a sign of surrender; the greatsword dematerialized into a silver charm on her chain. "Apparently I'm better at defending than I am actually fighting, huh? How's about we catch a nap and then do that snowfort thing?"

He gave Stormy an apologetic smile as he desummoned Chester, and clipped the keys to his belt. "Hey, don't say that. You were pretty good. If you used your FEAR attack, you probably would have won."
A nap sounded pretty good right about now, but there was something he wanted to know first.
"Hey, since I won, can you tell me your real name?" He gave Stormy an expectant look, which seemed to say he wasn't going anywhere until he got an answer.

He was met with a simpering smile. "Maybe, maaaybe . . . Next time we spar I'll try it out, that sound good?" And hope to God it didn't burn through her shield too bad, as it seemed to do regardless of success of failure.
She had been hoping he'd forget about the name, but when asked directly (and having lost), Stormy couldn't avoid it. Well she could technically try to dance away again, but chances were with her low shield and the snow she'd just be tripping. "I never agreed to your terms, Mr. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, buuuuut since you're so curious -"
Thinking. Prepping. A breath.
"Soy Ursulina María José Cortez-Sevilla de la Vega Reyes Rendón Ortega."
A flourish of her coat.

Jake beamed. "Yup! I look forward to it!"
He laughed at the name she gave him, but when it looked like she was actually going to go through with it, he gave her his full attention, and when she was finished, only blinked.
Remembering his manners, Jake smiled, and placed a hand on his chest, bowing slightly.
"Encantada, señorita Ortega." He straightened up.
"It's a nice name, you should be proud of it."Ol-j-man I need to study my Spanish again, lol

She giggled because it seemed so silly that someone would look forward to being attacked, and then continued to giggle when his response was also in Spanish. Yes, excellent! Was he a native speaker? Was it the same she had grown up with or a different dialect? She was going to have to know eventually now that she had finally met someone who spoke Spanish.
But for now, naps were sorely needed. Jake was rewarded with a beam and a little bounce on her feet. "While it's nice, it's also long and awful for paper filling; Stormy is just fine. Mucho gusto, compadre~♪" she chirped, lifting the ends of her coat in a small curtsy. "Let's saaay . . . three hours from now meet back here for snowfort fun?"
Everybody took three hour naps, right?

Stormy... probably didn't want to know where he had picked up most of his Spanish... or the extent of his vocabulary, but he did learn a few greeting words. His forte was more in understanding than speaking (there was a lot you could pick up while running for you life and having people shout things on all colours of the spectrum at you, but that was in a past life he had no desire bringing up, and wouldn't of at all if he weren't so full of JOY)
"Haha, I guess you're right." he laughed. "Stormy it is then."
He only smiled at the curtsy. "3 hours sounds good!" He really needed a nap.
