“Sorry,” F’en mumbled, ducking his head in shame. Even under the boy’s thick tan, blush was evident. Great. He’d already messed this one up. Rubbing at his face absently, F’en debated crawling under the table and making a run for it. Wen didn’t seem to be the most agile of the lot; and he certainly hadn’t worked on a farm. The boy spent some time considering the possibility of his advantages, and whether or not it would be worthwhile.
However, Tiakimerth seemed to be greatly enjoying himself. And F’en was not going to be the sort of rider who denied his dragon happiness.
“I. I was the oldest, at home. Five kids. I was the only boy,” F’en explained awkwardly, still not looking up to met Wen in the eye. If the other didn’t hear him, well… maybe he’d get bored and leave! Just decide F’en was a deadglow, like most everyone else did, and give up on him.
“So I had to look after ‘em. Y’know? Big brother and what not. There. That ought to be enough conversation to please Tiakimerth.
And Tiakimerth was certainly pleased! He crooned aloud in delight at how social F’en was being, and pulled his head from the boy’s lap. He then turned to look at Rynsemth, eyes whirling with delight.
Tiakimerth responded gleefully, pleased that someone had noticed his clever tongue.
At the mention of meeting others, Tiakimerth nodded in agreement and with great enthusiasm.
He paused, and looked as though he were alarmed. F'en shot him a strange look, and Tiakimerth sent reassuring feelings. There was no need for worry! He was in control of this!

F'en was blushing? Wen set his hand in his lap, confusion settling across his face before stilling back into a relaxed calm look. This was rather different then the often over confident, boisterous, and temperamental lot that most of his age mates fell into among the guard. Even Jemi who he was closest with, even if she was female, was so positive about herself. The older veterans were more relaxed but the scarred up men had a quiet self-assurance.
"I'm not sure why you are apologizing for F'en, it isn't required." Wen replied calmly. "I basically grew up in a guard barracks and your remark was on the milder side of things said in passionate anger." Very, very mild actually considering what some of the more hot headed men could spew. "First actually said concerning protecting me."
Wen looked over at the dragons. "How is Tiakimerth?" He question, deciding to change the topic. "Are you getting along together?" If Rynsemth was correct the little spotted blue was a social thing, so different from the young man he was talking to. He had though Rynsemth had been his opposite but over the last few days they had found similarities.
Yes, yes, you are an eloquent word... poems? Rynsemth focused a bit more on Tiakimerth's words. he mused comparing the broad chest F'en to his petite, but leggy partner. Rynsemth settled, eyes firmly locked on the pale spotted blue.

Carltis hadn't acquired any smart clothes since arriving at the Weyr, but in the three days since becoming C'tis he had managed to get hold of an outfit that at least wasn't totally disreputable. Black linen trousers, pretty cheap but decent looking, and a blue linen shirt. The colour was of course deliberate, because he was damn proud of his dragon no matter how worthless some people might think he was.
Sauntering towards the mature (ha!) riders with the knots, C'tis shot a grin over at Rochelle. "Well here we go then! Are you ready to speak to a real live gold rider? I fear I may faint from excitement!" The usually sneering, bitter tones he would use for such a sarcastic statement about shinies was absent this evening; he swore he'd hardly stopped grinning since the Hatching.
His face hurt.
Malcarreth chuckled, looking up at his bondmate as he padded along by his side. He now understood what his rider's 'crimson' balk had been about, and a worm of anger had dug into his young heart. Size mattered, apparently.

Rochelle wore her usual linen shirt, a soft gray, but her fitted pants had been replaced by a dark red skirt that swished about her small ankles and thong sandals. She had managed to get a hold of lipstick to match the skirt and a headband of the same color to keep her hair from her face. Kibeth walked along beside her, wobbly and small, but her stomach round with food and hide shiny with oil, no longer exhausted.
"I think I may absolutely die of envy," she said dryly. Rochelle reached out an pushed him lightly in the shoulder, a returning stupid smile decorating her face. "So much sparkle~ so much grace and dignity."
She sighed overdramatically, earning herself a flick of dragon tail at her legs. But take the knots they did. She draped hers over Kibeths neck. The little dragon preened.
I say we Chase them when we are older, She droned, little head sticking out to sniff at the air. Maybe claw a few bronzes while we're up there.
You're a horrible influence.
One can only hope.
Rochelle reached down and patted at her. "Are you hungry, C'tis?" She liked to use his new name. It made her smile even more and bounce a bit. She'd not caught on to his anger yet, the bitterness, and simply existed as happiness for all three of them. "Too bad Bel ate so much."

Kindra rather liked this bit, the last time it had happened was at her Suunath's own hatching and she had stood in the same place these new Weyrlings were, she knew that many must be nervous, feeling unworthy of their new status and she tried to appear welcoming as she handed out the Knots to each rider, shaking their hand, congratulating them.
Suunath on the other hand watched with whirling happy eyes, wanting to greet each of the new hatchlings but she kept herself reserved, proud but the very air about her was happy.
(anyone that wants to interact with either Kindra or Suunath, shoot me a Quote or a PM or something so i don't miss it)

Becka was attending the hatching feast, mostly to check on the health of the young dragons, see how they were growing and to see the new ones. She could get around easier than Bereck could. She'd heard about the hatching back at the Weyr while she'd been at the hot springs and she felt a little down. While she knew a few faces around the Weyr, the four people she knew best, besides Bereck, had all Impressed. While she never really had dreams of Impressing a dragon, she did feel a little left out. Even that Apprentice from Benden had Impressed. She was glad she hadn't been there though, it would have probably felt worse watching them Impress.
Becka sighed and squared her shoulders, remembering the reason she was really here as she moved towards where the Weyrling dragons were, eyes appraising them. Mostly pleased with how they looked, she knew Aleck's dragon wasn't here, after eating too much. Bereck had already seen to it. She dreaded bumping into that Rochelle, mostly because she didn't want to be shouted at or anything but she would do her job and appraise the girl's dragon regardless if she came across the pair.

C'tis accepted his knots from the crimson rider with a little bow and then turned his attention onto the gold. "Junior Weyrwoman Kindra, such an honour to meet you!" he said, all bright eyes and big big smiles as he made a deep bow that Malcarreth copied. "Malcarreth and I are just so thrilled to speak to a gold rider; we've never had the chance before you know. Well, obviously he hasn't but I haven't either. Anyway, sorry to have take your time, I think my friend wants me over there and I'm sure you've lots of higher ranking Weyrlings to meet!" With that and another deep bow the blue pair backed out of the Weyrwoman's presence for a few paces before turning and heading over to Rochelle. "Can you believe I just talked to Kindra?" he expostulated, giving the glasscrafter a wide-eyed expression. "Anyway, yes, I'm bloody starving," he said, voice clicking back to normal and expression shifting into a grin. "I swear I've never been so hungry in my life as since I Impressed this beastie. Hu, and yes it is a shame but this isn't really his kind of thing anyway, right?" They needed to get the smith out and about more, doing things like interacting with society and enjoying himself. Malcarreth purred to Kibeth.

Kindra was rather pleased when the Bluerider came up to her after recieving his knots, even more pleased when the Blue himself echoed the boy's bow. She didn't really have time to reply to him as he moved off, she barely had time to nod her head to him before he scurried off towards another Weyrling, presumably his friend.
She chuckled to herself, in her mind he had been suitably respectful towards her, perhaps he'd scurried off embarassed to have spoken to a Goldrider, well, perhaps she would be able to speak to him later on. She smiled as she awaited the next rider to receive his (or her) rider knots from her.

"You are such a tailfork, C'tis." she snickered anyway, falling in place beside him once they returned to her and Kibeth's side. She had no words for the goldrider, not a care in the world save for the six of them. It would be a good time and Bereck pleased. Rochelle bumped his shoulder again, grinning, and it faded somewhat at the mention of Aleck. "No, it's not. Work is exciting and stuff and chilling with Bereck all day when he was sick is totally understandable but he's getting better now and I really just don't understand the lack of social thing."
She made a face and shrugged, pulling herself back into the whole bit with food and dragons. She'd worry over Aleck later when things were quiet and it came down to just her and her thoughts. Time with Carltis and people at large did not seem to be the appropriate place for moping over Aleck and his determination to be a hermit.
"Anyhow - food. All the food. Over here!" Small fingers wrapped around Carltis' wrist for a brief tug before she turned towards the food tables. Kibeth snorted, though it sounded like a sneeze, and cocked her head towards Malcarreth.
That sounds hilarious. I shall watch as I pick off the outskirts then. You can get your mouth all dirty with bronze ichor. Kibeth tried to prance, and failed, so she wriggled her wings instead. I hope they try to Chase me. Requests will be given to other Chasers to ground them and whoever rips out a throat, wins! Doesn't it sound grand?

Guard barracks? That sounded terribly unpleasant. Completely the opposite of life on a farm, with all girls. F'en had been docile, quiet. Never had to speak up, nor had he wanted to. Honestly, a life without being noticed would have been fine, in his book. Just him and a dragon, that was all the company he needed.
" 'm not good with people. Only talked to my family," he explained awkwardly, forcing himself to look Wen in the eye.
...Oh. The other man was a great deal shorter than him. Somehow, in his embarrassment, F'en had overlooked that fact. Perhaps it meant he was younger, as well. Making himself draw a steadying breath, he decided not to make a run for it. One conversation couldn't hurt.
...Right?
He smiled, albeit uneasily, at the mention of protecting people. It was something F'en was used to, with how rambunctious his sisters were. He could hardly count the times he'd been left to deal with his parents while the girls ran off to play elsewhere.
"When you're as big as I am, you get used to lookin' out for people. Just habit. Especially trouble-making sisters." He explained, as though it made up for his obvious awkwardness. Maybe it did? Who knew!
When Wen mentioned Tiakimerth, F'en turned to glance at the little blue. While he wasn't actively aware of it, his entire demeanor changed. The previously tense shoulders loosened up, he slouched slightly, and he was smiling. Not the fake smile he offered his grandmother when she asked about children, but a true and genuine one. How best was he to describe Tiakimerth?
"He's my world," F'en started, still watching as his dragon pondered the puzzle of poetry. "He- he's funny and clever where I'm not. Good with words. But he's soft and kind, and we agree on that. Makes up songs and stories, just to try and make me happy. It's... He's perfect. He's home, and I never knew I needed him."
Turning back to Wen, F'en was still sort of beaming about his dragon. He could not take pride in himself, but Tiakimerth? He could brag on the blue all day. People seemed to notice his spots, sure, but even under the pretty hide, Tiakimerth was incredible.
"H-how bout you and Rynsemth? 'm glad he got a rider. I- I worry. But he seems to be doing really well," F'en stammered, realizing how rudely that might come off.
"N-not to be insulting! I just. It's a reasonable fear, I think. With everything that led up to this. Quite a scare." And in all honesty? F'en was happy they'd all been healthy. And impressed.
Tiakimerth, on the other hand, was delighted beyond reason. Yes! A fellow dragon who cared for poetry! Out loud, he gave a delighted croon, ignoring the strange look F'en gave him.
He was silent, a moment, closing his eyes as he thought. This would have to be perfect! It was most important that it was.
But I hatched well, and so did you! And you found yours, and I found mine, Upon the warming sands of Trine. This tragedy makes us but stronger And we fear our enemies no longer. Malvren now shall know my name, And yours, my friend, shall be the same For we are dragons, bold and true! My friend, the black, and I the blue!>
Seemingly finished with his poem, Tiakimerth opened his eyes and regarded Rynsemth.
F'en, distracted for a moment, sighed in amusement.
"I think Tiakimerth just made a poem for your dragon."

That was better. Wen gave a small sound of contentment as F'en looked up or rather down, collecting himself. "I wouldn't know,... about trouble-making siblings," he elaborated. "I don't have any." He had wished for some when he had been a young child, living with his aunt while his father worked. The desire had not last long.
Much better, Wen made a note to keep the conversation around Tiakimerth. The change in demeanor was surprising and F'en appeared much more confident in speaking about his dragon. If a tad sappy. F'en words reminded him of his barrack mates who had either fallen in love or broken up, messily.
And back to stammering, Wen chuckled softly and looked at his dragon as Rynsemth wielded a poem out of the blue. "I was surprised. I had not considered his egg to be compatible to me." He had touched the shell so briefly and pulled back just as quick at the brimming distracting flattery.
"Rynsemth is well, and has been enjoying the extra attention paid to him. A brown rider offered us an extra hand on session for care and we accepted." He paused, eyes nearly closed as Rynsemth sent the poem to him and nodded. "He did. I'm surprised he chose the hatching as his subject matter." Poetry was not really Wen's thing but Rynsemth enjoyed it.
Rynsemth agreed. < I shared it with mine, he needs to enjoy the more finer artist things then shining steal. No matter how well it cuts.> The black rumbled slightly and posed.

Roommates? Oh, right, of course. Iafri hadn't given any thought to that before, as she had plenty on her mind already. And now she had one more thing to worry about, as if everything else wasn't enough. She went rather quiet, and reached reflexively for Girofleth, who raised her head to make it easier. That may be a bit much for mine, the green replied to her bronze brother. She is...easily overwhelmed, as you may have noticed.Oh, look! It is our turn, she said to both Iafri and Laeonaith, Let us go and get those things that Ours are to wear. She bumped her rider with her nose, pushing her gently towards the goldrider despite her extreme reluctance to approach. You must, Mine. When you are done, I promise we will find somewhere quiet to sit, if that is what you would like. Finally, the girl shuffled forward to accept her knots with quickly mumbled words that sounded like they might have been a "Thank you" before all but scuttling away. Girofleth was in less of a hurry, and looked up at the much larger Suunath with blue-green eyes. Hello, Mother. I am Girofleth, and I am pleased to meet you at last. Please forgive my Iafri, she does not mean Yours any discourtesy. The last few days have been very trying for her.Said rider had soon realized that her dragon hadn't followed her, and returned to hover anxiously nearby.

Kindra eyed the young woman that was pushed forwards by her tiny dragon, even for a Green this one was dreadfully small and Kindra had to repress the urge to frown in thought. "Congratulations Greenrider, here are your Knots, enjoy the feast" she said warmly before blinking in surprise as the girl scurried off, She... wasn't that scary was she? Kindra gave her head a little shake.
"Yours is forgiven daughter of mine, I am pleased to meet you too, it has been... trying for everyone since you and your clutchmates were stolen from me" rumbled Suunath gently, passing the message onto Kindra.
When the girl returned to her dragon Kindra smiled kindly, "Suunath tells me your green is named Girofleth, she is a pretty and dainty thing isn't she?" she asked gently, keeping an out for any others approaching for their Knots but wanting to reassure this obviously very timid girl.

I am sorry you were troubled on our account, mothermine, and that others had to hatch so far from home, but for my part I am also glad, though it is selfish of me; I would not have found Mine, had I hatched here. To be without her Iafri was a terrible thought, and worse still the thought that Iafri would not have her to keep her safe and happy, to teach her courage and all the other things she needed.
Twisting her hands, the girl nodded in response to the goldrider and said quietly, "Sh-she is pretty. Everyone says she's sm-small, but I...I wouldn't know. The big ones all look s-so big anyway."

"It is not your fault my little one, i am glad that you found Yours though" she soothed, dipping her nose to the little green. She would have been dreadfully upset if any of her hatchlings had gone Between.
Kindra tried to give the girl a reassuring smile. "I remember everyone commenting on Suunath's size when it was my hatching feast, sometimes.. the small ones are the best" she said, aiming for a conspiratorial whisper. She knew Suunath hated being reminded she was a small Gold. "Don't let anyone tell you she's not as good as any other Green, just because she's smaller, she might be incredibly useful during Threadfall" she said. She didn't think as much of Greens as Browns or Bronzes, or even Golds but .. this was a hatchling from HER Suunath, she'd be dammned if they weren't going to be the best they could be.
