Ca's ears went flat against her head, pumpkin-colored eyes fixing on the path in front of her. Her lack of speech was not a subject she wanted to get onto, especially since if she answered honestly with a nod, he'd question why she didn't talk. That couldn't be explained with nods and shakes of the head.
(( I meant later in general. If she does speak, it'll probably be something in adulthood that makes her finally kinda break that instinct of not speaking. She's a self-induced mute, more or less. ))

Her ears went flat so her being silent so must be a sour subject. So was she just being a pest because Sumac was a stranger watching or was the girl sore because she really couldn’t speak. “So you like music. You either can’t or won’t speak to me and we have no idea when your father comes back.” This was going to be just wonderful. Sumac moved forward changing his direction slightly to head to a place where the girl could wash off.
(Oh dear she and Noct really could get along just fine.)

Ca nodded to all three statements, sighing at the last. Her father had said he'd be back soon, but how soon that was, she didn't know. A quiet whine escaped her at the thought. She hated not knowing where Punk was. She'd always terrified that he might leave and never come back...
(( Sort of. Ca is a little different because she enjoys noise. Noct doesn't. ))

What was wrong now? Spying the water where he figured he could get the girl to bath he hoped it would quite her. “Ca. Ahead there is some water. Why not play in it?” He used a wing to gesture to the water. His steady pace didn’t falter as he went Kicking a small stone there was a clatter as it struck other rocks. (Noct has never been introduced to music. She just dislikes talking.)

Ca trotted towards the water, taking a drink before inspecting the pool of water further. She looked over at Sumac, then back at the water. Play in water? How'd you do that? She tentatively tapped the water with a hoof, ears flicking up at the sound. Her eyes fixed on the ripples that appeared on the water, her head dropping close to the surface so she could watch them. She couldn't see those when her head was under the blanket. The filly happily smacked the surface of the water with her front hooves, splashing herself this time. She scrambled backwards, shaking her head and snorting her surprise. It attacked her!
(( True. At first, Ca didn't like talking either, actually--she still sort of doesn't. Though she likes when Punk talks because it's easier for her to confirm that he's nearby (she has a bit of separation anxiety). And she likes his singing. ... *trying to think of ways to get Sumac amused* ... I've got nothing. ))

Watching the filly dart backwards he shook his head and chuckled which ended up a low rumble in his chest. “Never played in the water before?” He moved forward to the water and reared up and made a huge splash that had water come up his sides. “See it doesn’t hurt.” Moving deeper in, he lowered his head down and blew into the water making bubbles. Then he raised his head to breathe. He used his wings to send a ripple over the water with a few flaps. Then he turned and trudged out of the water his fetlocks now soaked and streaming little rivulets of water onto the ground. (*nods* Sumac is amused but again he’s not used to foals so he’s trying to help.)

Ca blinked and looked up at him in surprise when he laughed. She didn't speak, but her face lit up at the sound. She made him laugh! The filly instinctively took a step back when he splashed the water. When Sumac moved deeper in with reassurance that it didn't hurt, however, she hurried after him. Her first steps into the water were timid, but as the water washed harmlessly around her, she followed her babysitter further. Ca lowered her head to the surface and blew bubbles like he had, splashing happily as she lifted it for air. She liked the bubbly sound. But she suddenly froze, ears up and swiveling to catch the sounds around her. The filly sloshed through the water as quietly as she could, quickly hurrying to his side. It could've just been a mouse or some small, harmless animal, but it could have also been something dangerous. If it was, the safest place to be at the moment was near Sumac.
(( I think it's cute. Maybe now would be a good time to bring in Cardinal? ))

Watching the little one play Sumac actually started to relax. It was nice to know that even though he didn’t know much about foals; after all what mother would let a foal play with an Azrein like him, that he could at least come up with things to keep one occupied. He was fairly sure he could convince her to splash more so there would be no chance of her earlier contact affecting her but she stopped and looked upset. As she headed back to him he stopped and listened. Hearing a noise he silently cursed himself for being so foolish to become lax. He was in the Six’s herd where not all the Azrein were kind to the little ones. Most just shooed them off and didn’t care, but there were some Azrein that were a bit sadistic. Looking around he spotted the source of the noise and nearly groaned. It would be just his luck that Cardinal would come back and find him. He whispered quickly to the filly. “Get low to the ground and stay hidden.” He didn’t have time to explain as he relaxes his wigs so they hung to the ground on both sides obscuring the filly mostly from view. She was between his side and his wing. He hoped Cardinal wouldn’t notice. Cardinal was sauntering over toward Sumac when he noticed the other male’s wings droop. Really he hadn’t broken the other male that badly had he? After all Cardinal hadn’t even ordered him to do anything particularly humiliating in a day or so. Coming closer he saw Sumac’s eyes and figured something was up. Was it time for another beat down on the leafy fool? He would enjoy this. Smiling he came to a stop a few feet away from the other male. “Hello Sumac. Lovely weather, wouldn’t you agree?”

Ca Thu Thi didn't argue, didn't make a sound. She slowly lowered herself close to the ground and stayed out of the red bird Azrien's sight the best she could. Then she simply did what she'd always been best at: she went silent, at silent as a living thing could possibly be. She resisted the urge to cringe at the sound of Cardinal's voice. It was loud, a voice clamoring to be heard. It had traces of the musical tones that her father used, but they were mostly buried under the noise. The voice was a stark contrast from Sumac's tranquil sound with undertones of sadness and frustration. She didn't like it at all.

(Good description of Cardinal's voice. *spot on*) "The weather would be nicer if it weren't so cloudy. I'm surprised to see you Cardinal. I thought you'd be flying about today for certain. Though you'd stand out a bit since you're the only red against all that gray." He hopped it would give Cardinal and idea so the male would leave but he had no such luck. He watched Cardinal stamp a hoof and snort. He knew Cardinal wouldn't laugh in front of him unless it was at him. This was the most the male did. Sumac's heart plummeted to the bottom of his chest in horror though as he say Cardinal look down and surprise flickered across his features. He knew the filly had been discovered. Now how could he protect her?
"I wasn't away you had foals Sumac. After all what mare would want to risk being poisoned by your Caress?"

(( Thank you. ))
Ca locked eyes with the bird Azrien. She'd been spotted, but she didn't move from her place between Sumac's wing and side. Her ears flicked back at Cardinal's words, her eyes flicking up to her temporary caretaker. She huffed and nipped his wing lightly, as if assuring him everything was going to be fine. She went still again, her gaze re-fixing itself to Cardinal before dropping to the ground, as if she was submissive or scared. And then she waited--waited for sound, for movement. A direct confrontation with the red bird would be foolish; he was much larger than her. But if he did anything to her or her new chaperone...

Sumac felt his anger rise in his chest but ketp it under control. He knew that Cardinal was only baiting him. it was a tactic Cardinal often used. Sadly it worked more often then not and sumac had to tense so he didn't fall prey to the bird Azrein. Feeling a n** on his wing helped to ground him into reality. Relaxing he smiled back at Cardinal. "No you're right Cardial, she's not mine. I was just having a little fun, and practicing playing with foals in case I need to do so again.. Wouldn't want to end up playing and wind up killing little ones now would I?" Sumac's tone of voice was smooth but the sarcasm was undeniable. He watched Cardinal look annoyed at him for a moment and wondered if he crossed a line. He knew what few others did. That Cardinal had a mate and foals on the way.
Angry yes, and yet a part of Cardinal was amused? Yes amused was a good word for it. Sumac knew he'd up watching foals in the future did he? Well then Cardinal would be certain not to let him down. And to instruct his little ones in the proper meathod of dealing with servants. He pretended to misunderstand because he could. "I see. Well let me know when your done with your little fun. I really do think you're a bit old for her though Sumac. Be easy on the child."

Ca knew what would happen next. Sumac would attack, Cardinal would dodge and strike. That would end badly. So she bit his wing; nothing too painful, but enough to hurt a little and hopefully keep Sumac calm. Huffing, she slowly stepped from her protective spot at his side, eyes still downcast but ears perked up attentively. One bad move and both she and her caretaker would be in a tight spot...

Of all the vulgar things to even suggest this one made Sumac's blood boil and his stomach want to heave. Only a soulless monster would hurt a foal in such a way. He tensed and was ready to assault Cardinal for his remark. He would have too had it not been for Ca. He didn't even notice her bite his wing again, but he did notice her step out from her hiding spot. The growl that had been in his throat died. Closing his eyes he took a long slow deep breath. He gathered up his wings having felt silly for keeping them down so long after Cardinal had seen Ca. He starred at a spot on Cardinal's chest and couldn't bring himself to give the other stallion an answer of any kind. All he wanted to do was fight, but he knew he couldn't win. yet.
Watching Sumac visibly and with effort calm himself Cardinal laughed. He also noted the little filly moving away from his side. Had he made her reconsider her safety with Sumac? It would be just perfect. She'd tell her parents of his alleged acts and then would would thread though the herd. it would shame Sumac and quite possibly finally and truly break him. Letting his mind follow such entertaining thoughts he smirked and started to walk past Sumac figuring he would give Sumac time to seethe before setting him on more humiliating things. As he passed the other male he used his wing and gave Sumac a good smack right at the base of his neck. He was rewarded with Sumac's moan of pain and lowering of his head to protect the wounded spot. Laughing he kept walking.

Sumac moaned in pain. Cardinal laughed.
Ca struck.
The filly launched herself at Cardinal and sank her teeth into his wing at the sensitive joint where it attached to his back, yanking her head downward as if she wanted to bring the stallion to his knees. Her pumpkin eyes blazed with the fury she'd kept hidden by her lowered gaze. A low growl emitted from her throat, her steel jaws tightening their grip. This was the noise she hated, the noise that made her despise the voices around her. She wanted to break that cankerous laughter, wanted to twist it until it matched the quiet sounds of suffering she heard from Sumac.
