"No one can realleh define love. Not to t'letter," Nuru struggled in vain to wrap words around what he meant. "Didn' you miss meh?" he shifted a rather hurt look onto the demon as he tried to hold his arms out. One last vain attempt to lure the incubus he'd once known out into the open.

"I noticed your absence." he said, still looking almost dazed. "Physically and otherwise. I do not think that is what love is though." He eyed his open arms and moved, just a fraction as if he was thinking of getting to his feet, before freezing again, unsure why he had. It was needless energy expenditure. "Why does it matter?"

Nuru noticed the motion that started before the swift cancellation. The Zar he knew... the Zar he loved. He was still there. Somewhere. Buried under the sickness... he wasn't this bad before. He wasn't this... ... well... not before the humans, the one with the white coats, started showing up.
He moved in anyway to wrap his arms around Zar's neck from behind his chair, heaving an irritable sigh, "Ah think ah get et now.... ya still sufferin'..." and he tried to press his cheek into Zar's, "the jack did t'bastahds do t'ya?"

Zar didn't resist the gesture, simply froze in surprise initially before seeming to slightly relax. He lowered the ragged bones of his wings out of the way as he found the boil's cheek pressed to his own. "They did not do anything significantly. They offered me a choice, and then they injected something into me. A tag they called it. I don't know what it really was. I don't think it changed me. "
"I think I was always like this really?"

"Y'weren'," he rubbed his cheek against Zar's lovingly. His affection however, was quickly snuffed out by lingering realities. He frowned, "Trust meh on this... for once."
He still held Zar close as he sighed weakly, "Okeh, it's somethin' they put in ya... at least ah know better what ah need t'do." He could help. That was all he ever wanted. He couldn't just sit by anymore as every little thing inside Zar that made life worth living slowly and systematically died.

Zar didn't like feeling like he only had a portion of the picture, it was in his nature to want to understand every single factor at work in a specific situation so that he might turn it in his favour. Nuru's comment that he hadn't always been the way he was now was- at the least, irritating, at the most it was deeply unsettling. It meant that he had changed in some perceptible fashion and had no grasp of what those changes might have entailed.
Panic joined the line up of muted emotions, only this time, he felt it.
He got to his feet, at first seeming like he was attempting to pull away from Nuru, but instead turning to face him, seizing his shoulders earnestly.
"You think I've changed?"

Nuru shied back, almost expecting Zar to scold him. Furious at such accusations. What he didn't expect, was a flash of the Zar he used to know. A Zar full of honesty and emotion. But it wasn't going to last. Nuru knew it wouldn't. Not until he got a hunter to remove what they'd put inside him.
He frowned deeply, honestly not wanting to admit it - but Zar was being honest right now, he deserved the same respect. Nuru nodded, "Y'have..."

There was a certain clarity to his thoughts tangled up with the panic. He felt like he could breathe again for just a moment, like rather than black and white there was a little colour in the world. He wasn't sure why it was, or how long it would last, but he was willing to set aside his paperwork foe a moment for the first time in months.
"I don't know why. I don't know if that's how it's meant to be. Father said there'd be certain things would change as I aged, maybe this is one of them. Maybe what the humans did. Maybe it's both." He felt like he was rehearsing some long forgotten motion as his tail arched up and looped around the boil, drawing him close in a hug, all narrowed angles, bones and talons against him, much thinner than he used to be under his mangled suit.
"It wouldn't be logical to hurt you."

Nuru froze as he was dragged into the hug, startled at first. Zar was changing again... changing to the Zar he missed, the Zar he longed for... the Zar his arms deftly coiled about and hugged back. He drew him as tightly to his chest as he was physically capable, "Zah... ah... miss'd ya..." He buried his face in the incubus's neck. He felt so thin and bony now. Was he slowly wasting away too?
Nuru couldn't wait for Zar to get better on his own anymore, it clearly wasn't going to happen. It was unfair to expect it anymore at this point... Nuru ran his hands firmly across the other boils back.. he could almost count his ribs with his fingertips...
"You haven' been feedin' on fea' eithah?"

Contact, genuine contact from another living (or near enough) creature and he realised how much he'd missed it. He buried his face against his shoulder, glasses pushed up by the gesture, careful not to get his horns in the way.
"No. There's so much to do in a day. I'm okay. I'm okay."
Except maybe he wasn't.
"We could go out to eat?" Maybe, maybe just once.

Nuru leapt at the idea, "Y-yeah, okay. Um. Hea'." He suddenly slipped from the hug to take Zar's hand firmly in his and head towards the door. "Y'realleh need to eat an' ah think ah know the perfect place."

Zar nodded, letting Nuru take his hand and even to be led without complaint.
He was hungry. He hadn't noticed.
"Okay."
It had been a long time since he smiled.

Nuru lowered his defenses enough to crack a smile in return.
Okay, he could do this.
He dragged Zar long and far, but it felt like such a short trek with Zar at his side. Not acting like a robot.
Nuru didn't understand why but at the same time wasn't about to question it.
