Lailah looked at the prince straight on, yellow eyes wide, as he suggested that she skip out on a lesson.
"That's not true! My lessons are important to the entire pride, I couldn't possibly abandon my duties that way!" Not to mention the damage it would do to her relationship with her mentor. Stellaluna could be kind and let her go early now and then, but the black lioness could also be stern and unyielding as stone when she was crossed.
Lailah had no desire to get on her teacher's bad side. Ever. So she frowned at the prince before her. "Well, if that's what you think of my duties, perhaps I should shirk your company, eh?"
Suiting action to word, she turned and, with a flick of her tail, stalked off, indignition written in every movement. Yes, he'd been fun to talk to. But to even suggest that her lessons as Shaman's Apprentice were less important than skipping out to...to...to do anything else!? Really, the nerve!

Okay, so he'd totally crossed a line just there. The girl had serious issues. What was wrong with having a day off every now and then? Heck, he did it all the time. Still, he'd clearly missed something important here. Either she was severely exaggerating her importance or she was more than a huntress. He cursed himself for his lack of judgement. He'd been doing so well, too. His luck had run out, clearly.
"Fine then!" He called out to her retreating form, feeling annoyed that she'd turned her back and stormed off like that. He was a prince. You couldn't just walk out on a prince. It wasn't proper! And no one of the lower classes would do that, would they? Which again confirmed his suspicions. He should know who she was and he was going to damn well find out.
With a loud huff, he turned his back and curled back up next to his rock. The night was ruined now.
How annoying...
